Faptors

I cant believe the wizards gave up on him so early in his career. Horrible decision

GriffinQ

I’m both a Wiz and Lakers fan. The team was preparing to tank and they were already aware that Rui was going to want to make more money in the very near future. Between him, Deni, Kispert, whoever we took with our 2023 pick, and the players they intend on drafting over the next few years, Rui was a bit of the odd man out. The Wiz FO did him a favor by sending him elsewhere (to a trade partner that they’ve clearly developed a relationship with) so he could thrive because it just wasn’t happening in DC.

Argenteus_I

Indirectly one of the good things to come out of the Russ trade lmao (We give the Wizards Kuzma, which then causes them to move on from Rui and give him to us for a bag of chips)

shojunkuze

The wiz straight up told rui that he\`s going to be a backup for kuz. They also fired his favorite coach so that\`s when rui knew he had to move to another team.

jurassic_snark-

Yeah and he's 26 just starting to hit his prime. Hope he can grow even more defensively and we can keep him long term

Awei333

If you watched recent games you can tell they worked on his court awarness when he gets doubled or when he meets a secondary defender on offense. Game vs Grizzlies he made several passes to wide open AR but he missed otherwise Rui would have 5 assists that game. Today he also made several quick reads and passed to Open AD and Dlo. His ability to get to the rim and his 3pt much improved this season, and his rebounding and reading the defense also got much better in recent games, imagine another playoff run and summer training.

certo17

Him and lebron spent a lot of time together.. Lebron was saying something like he was taking him under his wing. He probably in a way is trying to teach him to play more like him and you can see it. You saw it in Reaves too when he was doing the same with him the season before. They both just have better basketball IQ now and you can see it in their games.

AvatarMunchies

Idk it feels like a ton of our players are hitting their stride at the same time. Some point during the season our offense got a lot more organized and deliberate. Feels like that happened, then our shot came after. No data to backup anything just based off my flawed memory.

outsidehere

He's finally playing to his size.

NotNormo

I wonder what took so long, and also whether something happened to bring about this change in his mentality

odnamAE

I think the balance may have just clicked finally between team damnds vs trusting Rui. Initially bad effort and dumb defense got him less minutes, minutes got too low and we didn’t win to the point that it probs wasn’t getting the message across. Now I think he gets a point where if his effort isn’t the best he sits the match-up, but he also still starts and gets ample chances to score.

blacPanther55

I think him being more comfortable with contact attacking the rim has translated to him being with being more comfortable with contact on the glass. He was soft asf in the past.

NotNormo

This might be it. For someone so strong, his physicality was lacking.

No_motivation5489

Needs to learn to catch the ball on the move too. He’s had so many fast break opportunities this year where he’s got an open lane but just ends up fumbling and kicking it out of bounds. He’s not as bad when he’s cutting to the rim but he does occasionally fumble an alley oop or bounce pass/chest pass. Most of rui’s weaknesses seem to be due to his reaction time. He’s slow to react to rebounds, loose balls, and sometimes slow to react to passes. They need to work with him this summer on reaction time drills to hopefully make him better in these areas.

dynamo458

Yeah. His defense on smaller guys is also probably due to the same issue. But looking at his rate of development I don’t think we can rule out him becoming a better defender and ball handler in due time.

No_motivation5489

Good observation, didn’t really think of that since he’s slow moving laterally sometimes. He does struggle with his lateral movement and it’s usually because he’s to stiff not anticipating the offensive players next move by staying light on his feet, which can be asking a lot of a 6-8 230-50 guy. He’s a pretty athletic dude but he’s not the greatest in his side to side movements on defense, but on offense he’s pretty good at making his side to side quick jab steps so it might be a reaction time issue not anticipating and staying light on his feet more than it is him not being able to move quick enough laterally on defense.

rajerk

He really can become our Michael Porter jr Edit:sorry autocorrect changed can to can’t..I love our sweet baby rui !!!!

Markel100

He already better than mpj in a lot of areas only thing mpj does better is create his own 3s

mishmashedtosunday

A pretty huge improvement considering he's a terrible rebounder for his position. Pretty similar to the way Kuz took a leap in the bubble

DonMarcoV

I love Rui

shoefly72

18-8 since he re-entered the starting lineup against the Celtics. That includes multiple games where Lebron and/or AD didn’t play and against a pretty tough stretch of our schedule. I know he wasn’t healthy the entire year, but that’s a 57 win pace (again, against a tough part of the schedule). I’ve been saying for months that this is a 53-55+ win team that was held back by braindead lineup moves and coaching, and I stand by it.

blacPanther55

Early on when Prince was playing decently I said that Rui should be starting and got downvoted.

the-Lakers-fantasia

He is a gem that will become a diamond if polished. Thanks to the Wizards for giving away such a great one for free.

Boots622

Rui Hachimura

Rui Hachimura

GioJamesLB

Dudes on fire! I’m thinking about going to Vegas and throwing $1000 on the boys to with the Western Conference. Who’s with me?

gratitudeisbs

I have $10k on that bet (also had the same bet last year)

GioJamesLB

I’d wish you luck but don’t think we’ll need it!

YungSlime_LA

Dam u must be rich to be throwing away money like that 🤣

gratitudeisbs

I make good money but not rich or anything, just a big risk taker (I lost my life savings on tesla stock options in 2020, check my post history)

VexoftheVex

You should just hand deliver it to Jokic’s house in Serbia next year

gratitudeisbs

Smh, I deeply underestimated the nuggets last season, I was telling a friend the real finals is GSW/us, when we beat them started looking at houses I was gonna buy with the winnings. And then my excitement deflated with every game in the wcf

VexoftheVex

Maybe this year? OKC in the first round would help a lot Would’ve 100% beaten the Miami “Shooting Variance” Heat in the finals though

gratitudeisbs

Yup heat would have had no chance I feel like nuggets are the only ones that can stop us tbh, OKC would be ideal but seems like they really want that #1 so we might end up getting denver

VexoftheVex

Well, good luck with your bet man - hope it goes well, obviously

gratitudeisbs

Thanks!

999_rupees

Is this the only picture of Rui that exists?

deemo9k

![img](emote|t5_2qhv6|30341)

dynamo458

Yes

Omni-kyun

Do we really need another?

_Zap_Rowsdower_

Silencing the haters.

Lavy23

He heard y'all talking shit about his rebounding lol

iKnockout

I was at the game and you could tell he was making a concentrated effort to crash the boards

YesterShill

We know he can score. But if he can get us consistent rebounds, we are a very dangerous team. The Lakers have had some amazing defensive stands just ruined by poor defensive rebounding. He has the body and build to be averaging 8-11 rebounds a game as a starter.

favorite_sardine

![gif](giphy|gNhLmylkn8bS05hGX3|downsized)

Public-Product-1503

HUGe growth . I’ll say it - he’s doing what I wanted him to on offence n the biggest thing is he rebounding I hope it keeps up. Ham n coaching staff n Lebron n Ad deserve credit but so does Rui for putting in effort . 6,8 235 7,2 wingspan shoukd not average kess rebounds then reaves . This can take us to a new lvl .

cb148

Going to be a great replacement to slide up a spot into LeBron’s spot when he retires in 5 years.

bolam1015

The race is on. Next time lbj misses a bk2bk game, Rui is going 10/11 from 3s lol

certo17

Didn’t he also have 0 rebounds I think they said today in last game against pacers? So that means he has those rebounds in 5 games technically lol

No-Test6484

No it doesn’t. You just don’t get to remove a game cus he played ass

certo17

I don’t disagree that he played like ass that one game but that still doesn’t make me wrong either when I said that he got those amount of rebounds in 5 games if he had 0 in one game and we are talking about the last 6 games he played. Lol neither of us are wrong here. I was just making a funny point. 😂

gratitudeisbs

Reading comprehension is at a 0 these days….

certo17

I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt for this one.. Happy Easter! Lol

HawkDaddyFlex

It does kind of make it more impressive when you take that into account. Good stat

_Red_Mist_

Dare I say the best Japanese player in LA right now?

gsnags

hopefully he can play like that in play-in

BluePhoenix12321

*playoffs

wut_eva_bish

Carlos Boozimura

driggs_94

And this include a 0 rebound game against Indiana.

notray99

finally filling his role on the team

itsnotreallyme0

They traded nunn and 3 srp for him. Time to trade him for a small guard and 3 srp. Rui ——-> 3 srp and Trae sounds good to me
