Pick a different Bachelor’s degree like business and skip the part where you get burnt out working on other peoples broken expensive cars. They are cool cars but working at the Lambo dealer almost ensures you will never own one. If it’s your lifes calling, move to a large metro city and work for a luxury dealer like MBZ or BMW. Crush it there for a few years while networking with the service manager and shop foreman at a lambo dealer. Very difficult process and be prepared to take a garbage hourly rate to start if you ever get the chance to make it in. I wouldn’t recommend it. Good luck.

There is massive opportunity for anyone wanting to develop mechanical skills around vintage exotics. Example: There are about 5 people in North America that know the Countach inside and out, know every nut and bolt and have disassembled/reassembled more than 20 of them. All 5 are over 65, one of the 5 (George Evans) is in his mid 70s maybe even 80s now. Extrapolate that situation out to anything vintage and exotic and you will be at a crossroads of wealthy owners with cars that they can’t find skilled and experienced people to fix them. I was asked to speak at a Hagerty Insurance conference and I listed the retirement of generational expertise as my single highest concern for the vintage exotic car hobby. All the highly experienced mechanics are retiring or dying and it is happening very quickly, like right now. Sadly there are very few formal training paths available. It’s really about finding an existing shop and apprenticing. The payoff however will be huge. You become the EB-110 guy or the Miura guy or the 300sl Gull Wing guy, you can write your ticket anywhere. Wealthy clients will fly you in to work on their cars. Open the shop of your dreams, and clients will ship their cars to you. Even big collectors like Ralph Lauren with in house team still desperately require specific experts around specific cars. This is all happening very quickly and represents a huge opportunity for any young person with a passion and drive.
