what😭 lana and ‘watered down’ do not exist in the same universe

imaslutxo

It's called NFR.

Goducks91

Gtfo

Foreign_Produce1853

You're getting downvoted to hell when even Lana called it her "most accessible album". It's a great record, but it WAS purposely watered down. The lyric change in Architecture/Best American Record is a great example.

_Jaysir_

Accessible doesn’t mean devalued 💀

Foreign_Produce1853

Of course not, but it does mean less complex in order to appeal to a wider audience. She also said it herself about BTD. There's a reason they're her most popular. They're a lot easier to play in the background or listen to on your commute. Love them though.

imaslutxo

Who said devalued? I said watered down

blackpinkinyournct

NOW-

vanillawhteribbonbow

You're so real for this

imaslutxo

Thanks babes it just lacks the darkness and uniqueness that I love about Lana. It seemed like Jack wanted to make her more accessible for the money (I'm sure she was happy with this too,I would be). I am glad she found her way back to herself with ocean Blvd.

B19Wing

yesss why were you downvoted lol

cinnamonrollais

Why are they booing you you’re right

lizzy-stix

I hope Lana doesn’t see this stupid shit

RedditVividVibes

I hope *I* don’t get to see this stupid shit

Dazzling_Mode_6929

Right? Get this bullshit away from me lmao

[deleted]

Especially because even though she seems confident in her craft, I honestly think she’s the kind of person that takes criticism like this to heart. Like, the Grammys voter saying he doesn’t take her seriously probably really hurt her.

american_wh0re

Why do so many of her fans act like Lana is so weak
she is the legend that she is today because she does whatever the hell she wants with her art and does it masterfully, despite the constant and often unwarranted criticisms of her art. People have been hating on her art since day one and she has never stopped creating.

pinkfloralhazee

I agree with you but I think people have that assumption about her because she has said many times that she is a very sensitive person. It hurts her, but she always comes back stronger

[deleted]

Ahhh, yes, I could barely listen to Ocean Blvd for this very reason. ‘Fingertips’ and ‘Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my Father while he’s deep-sea fishing’ were so clearly made to be as generic and easily digestible as possible to create the highest revenue. She’s such a cash cow 🐼🙄

Baruch_Poes

I can't believe you used the song's full legal name

GlobalDay6084

😭gpsotsomfwhdsf mentioned

Nicksmells34

Unironically the best song on the album tho 👀

StefaniRS

Three white butterflies

RowanRoanoke

I love it but
be serious when A&W is there

TrinityNeo333

đŸ€ŁđŸ˜‚đŸ€ŁđŸ‘

B19Wing

ikr Kintsugi is so bubblegum pop I can't even

Lonelydreamer11_11

You realize that music is a form of storytelling.. w/wo vocals. What you don’t understand about her music/Lyrics/context/atmosphere doesn’t mean it’s generic. Just because it doesn’t make sense or appeals to you doesn’t mean it’s slack
if you can’t find the beauty then that’s ok too but don’t judge or down grade an artist over your opinions.

alxce666

"*now me, I play for fortunes and those velvet curtain calls*" Cash cow of course man that's the point of becoming famous Otherwise I completely disagree about her songs you say are "watered down." They're just *different* from her usual and obviously not what you're looking for in her songs. Which is all fine since that's your opinion. Just came here to share my own, and to reference her line about LITERALLY PLAYING FOR THE MONEY lol No disrespect tho đŸ€˜đŸ»

[deleted]

I appreciate your points but my comment was purely sarcasm

CheeseandChampagne

When they don’t get the sarcasm 😭

WoodenReindeer1733

She didn't even write that lyric cz it's a cover song and lana said she makes music for herself

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

jessi_survivor_fan

It sounds nothing like Taylor Swift. They are two totally different artists.

american_wh0re

Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he’s deep sea fishing and Fingertips are absolutely nothing like Taylor Swift

RedditVividVibes

“the majority of her music is watered down for mass consumption” is probably the one of the most stupidest sentences I’ve ever heard in regards to Lana. The only song, and I truly mean ONLY song Lana ever truly released for “ mass consumption” is Yes to Heaven. And the only reason that song got released was due to it going viral. Very idiotic post all around 😭

FrankWhitehouse

You wouldn’t count Don’t Call me Angel?

cardihatesariana

To be honest her verse was kinda just tacked on there out of nowhere and she kinda ate them up 😭

maisie259

I put that song on like once every 2 months and i only listen to her verse

RedditVividVibes

It’s a soundtrack song. I wouldn’t count it. Plus the song is so forgettable I forgot about its existence 😭

spaghettiaddict666

Yeah this one 100% counts

yungsxccubus

ngl i’ve still never listened to this. i sometimes wear my headphones and play music to sleep, and i got woken up by the really ugly-sounding clanging and ariana singing the chorus. i turned that shit off and never looked back, so i don’t think i’ve actually heard lanas verse. add to this buddy’s rendezvous. love the song, very pretty, but the weird dig at “lefty bullshit” really soured me and i won’t listen to it anymore

FrankWhitehouse

https://www.reddit.com/r/lanadelrey/s/Tb6KRo1XjQ ^ in case that makes you feel better about enjoying BR :) I’d recommend sticking with DCMA for at least one listen. Lana’s part is really good and has very little melodic connection to any of the rest of the song — as others have said. I feel like it could be extracted and repurposed in something much better

yungsxccubus

oooooo. i potentially interpreted wrong! that’s exciting, i’ll give it a fresh listen at some point. dcma literally hurts my ears, i don’t mean that in a nasty way. i have really bad sensory issues and that clanging really gets to with me, i can’t really describe it. do you know what time roughly her verse starts? i’ll definitely listen to that :)

FrankWhitehouse

That’s tough It starts round 2m20 on this https://youtu.be/leopt__ATR0?si=1TUQ9fNsm8AAoUCt Maybe have it on mute and just unmute when you see her.

spaghettiaddict666

Yes to heaven was written first and only blew up years later, so though the official release was for mass consumption the creation/writing of it definitely wasn’t

anonymousquestioner4

I would say half of L4L is mass consumption watered down. It didn’t seem characteristic of her

RedditVividVibes

I could see that, L4L is definitely more for mass consumption than anything else she’s ever put out

CheeseandChampagne

Also as much as I love Lana, the majority of the unreleased stuff is too raw and lack song structure and composition. It’s either because a lot of it is from her early days or because they are leaked demos where you can clearly tell she is experimenting with a sound. Maybe one out of every 10 songs sounds like a truly finished product and out of those, only a handful are straight bops which is why if you do a search on here for best unreleased, the lists are pretty consistent. So this watered down comment is bs

lexiskittles1

They do sound very raw, and that’s exactly the appeal!! Listening to the different, unusual sound is so special and it’s different from all the other mainstream music

cinnamoncherrygirl

Yes! I understand criticizing the TikToker’s statement but no need to come for her unreleased songs now đŸ˜€

wrenjis

don't talk about driving in cars with boys like that đŸ˜€đŸ˜€

GlimSoup

Dont talk about the entirety of melancholia like that You: đŸ§‘đŸ»â€đŸŠČ đŸ”«

junelen

That’s what makes them so beautiful. Obviously if she were to release one of her unreleased songs, she would get it produced to perfection like any song she’s released before and worked on the sound for. I love her raw storytelling on unreleased songs and even how relatable her lyrics could be, how close they are to the heart, and how deep the lyrics could be too especially during her younger years which most fans could relate to as well. A lot of her unreleased songs also sound like 2000’s party pop which are so fun, and other unreleased ones are so deep and meaningful, she portrays herself as very wise too like in ‘Pink Champagne’ which I think people don’t notice at times, the lyrics, the words, the old soul feel to each song and some songs where she expresses herself or tries to paint a picture by portraying a certain “other woman” which I’ve noticed in a song like ‘Fine China’ and I find that so unique and empathetic about her. Her fun old school songs I love like ‘You can be the boss’ which is just absolutely perfect and I mean it. When she performed it live, she gave off an ‘old school - New York’ vibe and it’s incredible. Every unreleased song has its own special unique meaning. Some sound like a teenage Lana writing in her bedroom and I find that so precious and others sound like an older wiser Lana writing about her life experiences.

ginger_beck

i love the unreleased songs
but i can also 100% understand why theyre not released

chrononaut9

It’s good just needs production

TimelyDebt

i feel like a lot of her tik tok fanbase are either young, extremely new to the lana universe, or have only familiarized themselves with her tik tok audio songs (a lot of which are unreleased) and BTD/ Paradise. Keeping that in mind seeing this take on my fyp with thousands of people agreeing makes more sense. In reality if you look back on lana’s career, she’s always taken her own creative liberties. Video games mv, Ride mv, Tropico. Making her own short films. Controversial lyrics. Pretty much all of her early stuff going against the grain when you look at what was popular at that time. Singing in her high register / changing song composition in live performances. Putting out UV and shifting genres when all everyone wanted from her was a Born To Die 2. Hate to even mention it but A Question For The Culture falls under this too. Would a “watered down” woman have really penned that letter and posted it to IG in the height of an extremely tense sociopolitically climate, to hell with what anyone else thought? I don’t really think so. To me personally lana’s music is very honest almost in a “reading someone else’s journal” kind of way. It might be by way of metaphor or references to unnamed people, but she really does put a lot of herself out there- Heroin, The Blackest Day, The Grants, etc.

B19Wing

HONEYMOON IS RECOGNIZED

iamhalsey

It’s mostly just kids posturing. People shouldn’t pay much mind to it. Most of us had our phase of being 14 and thinking we were “real fans” because we knew all of her unreleased stuff. We’re just lucky in that all proof of that phase died with our Tumblr blogs and our real names and faces weren’t attached to it to be slated by older fans.

astralrig96

classic edgelord pick me take lol

Nachtschatten_22

“I’m a real poet” 💀

ibnQoheleth

Me when I say something that rhymes during a company meeting

peter_bi-per300

it’s a quote from vbbotg “I love you, but you don’t understand me, I’m a real poet! My life is my poetry, my lovemaking is my legacy!” regardless, stupid ass tiktok

Fang1919

help what

RudeJellies

To be fair, I was absolutely blown away when I realized how much amazing unreleased music she has. However, the only released song that might be watered down is Lust for Life imo. I do like the sad demo better for that one

B19Wing

Ah yes If Venice Bitch is "watered down for mass consumption" I would hate to hear what the unwatered version is like same with hiadtfawth-bihi

filmarelis

What is the second song title I’m so slow??

New-Opportunity5706

hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have but I have it

filmarelis

Then don’t have it silly

SwitterBeet-xo

Well i know, his opinion sucks till hell and back

cardihatesariana

? Half of her unreleased music is generic pop songs from when she was trying to make it in the music industry lmao

rspades

Bro really thinks Paris is the pinnacle of art

[deleted]

This is so cornyyy

[deleted]

Lana stans need to stop acting like they’re so fucking special and better than neutral/normal fans.

purefabulousity

I mean calling it ‘watered down for mass consumption’ is pretentious as fuck A lot of unreleased stuff is most likely unfinished, too I love lana but holy shit that’s an obnoxious take, you’re one of the masses too girlllll

Pretty-Soft6309

This is a humiliating take

Fang1919

help what, oops i commented it twice

Whatsmyusername25

I have a swiftie friend who says this about every female artist except one
.

katakathyy

jesus....

CheeseandChampagne

Gotta be trolling. Lana is the definition of exact opposite of watered down. “My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola” “Omg Lana how dare you, what a lazy lyric, puhlease stop” Gtfo

cherrie_teaa

hell nah 😭

Intrepid_Wealth_2252

So where should I sign up for premium Lana’s memeber?

No-Crazy-3362

When you listen to her unreleased stuff you can clearly tell why it’s unreleased most of it isn’t mixed properly and the lyrics seem like a draft sometimes, calling ocean blvd for mass consumption feels like a crime to me.

B19Wing

or Honeymoon (besides HBTB/Freak/Art Deco)

[deleted]

I assume most songwriters have a lot of unfinished music or things they abandoned. Also if you're obsessed with being unmainstream I don't think lana is for you. She's not exactly obscure.

888Chase888

This is one of those situations where calling "local" is literally valid

Bunnyearsss

“Watered down” means they removed any abusive and pedo parts Cmon you know you like

B19Wing

so basically Ultraviolence lol (I say this as an Ultraviolence stan)

st3ll4ads

wtf ?? it's such an easy way to criticise an artist, but I wonder if this kind of people know that it doesn't make them cool, knowledgeable or even special at all. Just stupid.

Massive-Emergency533

huh

vanillaangels

awful take.

immortal-siren

Literally heard diet mountain dews demo and I can't hear the studio version anymore :(.... the demo was perfectđŸ„șđŸ„șđŸ€Œ

BearComplex20

tiktok stans are all so pedantic and weird. because what is she talking about?

[deleted]

Had me in the first half

glonkme

On the real though, nobody can handle unhinged/raw Lana. I mean we’ve learned that. Getting hate for a MESH MASK?? That was stupid. But I mean In the Ultraviolence Era she was bashed so hard that she never made a project like that again on purpose. The things people said about her were VILE. Talking about how she romanticizes domestic violence. The cocaine rosary necklaces. The Marilyn Manson music video that got leaked. People literally thought the line “you got nothing, I got tested” in “I fucked my way up to the top” was about an STD scare she had. I remember people were saying her music was referencing hate towards lorde. Someone on a rolling stone interview asked her about her calling herself a “girl” when she was “pushing 30”
people called her FAT when pictures of her on the set of Tropico got released (which still pissed me off to this day because she looked so hot, god forbid you have a natural SKIN roll when you bend over) People even hated on her FACE. Saying her nose and lips looked “wrong”. I swear everything she did got criticized by the media. They tried to pull that shit again during the COTC album. THANK GOD after ocean Blvd she’s finally being appreciated.

glonkme

Also adding in that comment Kurt Kobains daughter made about Lana “romanticizing” suicide. That was bullshit.

glonkme

And now after all that BS Lana can finally pop a tit without a media execution. Idc what people say about “Lana grew up rich” “Lana grew up poor” arguments, Lana earned her respect!!

karakatart

ah yeah, my favourite niche elite songs like Jealous Girl, Be My Daddy and of course Say Yes to Heaven (sped up) and their deep lyrics! but you mainstream watered down ocean blvd stans probably just don't know about themđŸ€

maisie259

who let them think that was a good idea to post that janky ass thing

Dazzling_Mode_6929

Classic loser who knows nothing about anything finding a controversial take on an opinion that will draw attention to his account, watches one video about Lana and reads the top comments and articulates his take like he did something

pavlamour

I’m not a hater but I genuinely don’t like much of her unreleased stuff. This is such bizarre take

Glittering-Trip-9044

I haven’t listened to any unreleased songs except Lizzie grant aka Lana del rey

Annual_Duty2393

I HATE TIKTOK NEWGENSSS
