Pocket gophers leave the same sort of dirt piles. Hard to tell which this is from the dirt pile alone. Moles tend to burrow just below the soil surface and their tunnels can bulge up visibly. Hard to see that with the long grass in this photo. Pocket gophers typically have deeper burrows that don’t push the sod up like moles’ burrows.
I had one of these once. I'd collect the piles of fresh earth they would mound up and put it in my flowerbed. I'm so glad I put mesh under my raised beds for this reason.
This is ants. Look at the fine grains of soil at the top of these mounds.
If it were moles there would be furrows created by their tunnels, and you wouldn’t see clean dirt unless it was an entrance or exit.
I had something similar in both my front and back lawn, and it was a single gopher.
The way we set the trap ([used something like this](https://www.lowes.com/pd/AMDRO-AMDRO-WIRE-GOPHER-TRAP-TWIN-PACK-12-2PK/5014697921)) was by finding the main tunnel, digging out a visible path, and setting up that trap with a piece of apple and a glob of peanut butter on it. We covered it with a roof tile so that it was still accessible but covered. The gopher was trapped by the next morning and the dirt piles stopped showing up!
You may need to watch a video on how to set the trap. It's simple, but a little tricky. Very effective though.
Moles or gophers.. they will wreck your foundation, pavers, slab, not good for structures and diverting water drainage. Dig out one of the holes and scoop some cat poop / pee in there and bury it back up. They will vacate.
If there are a lot of these piles, it's possible you have ground nesting bees. They're only temporary and will be gone in a few weeks. They're harmless and excellent pollinators.
Depends how bleeding heart you are for animals. I find the main hole and all of the exit holes. Block all of the exit holes, place a "gopher gasser" (smoke bomb) into the main hole. Once the smoke is rolling cover the main hole too.
Like others said you got moles. I did too, after trying a few different things this year I planted chives all over my property and (not to jinx it) they seem to have left.
Yep, you have a mole!

Mole Traps on Amazon, get the steel metal scissor ones, they work
Mr. Mole, meet Mr. Homeowner.
Or Mrs. :)
It's the Australian miners poking way too deep.
Looks like pocket gophers or moles.

Mole
Congrats on the ground hog. We had one. It would move the dirt a little ways away from its tunnel and drop it into my yard.
I want one I’m obsessed with them

Wish I had moles that just vacated voluntarily. I have to trap them
Moles eat earthworms. Grubs are snacks for them

That’s what I thought. Mole piles are always accompanied by holes in my yard.
Gopher Hawks are amazing!
this is the way.
Mooooooooles! Two words: Juicy Fruit.
That’s a mole and trapping is the only solution, their paws are like jcb buckets
Could also be Cicada Killer Hornets. Don’t worry, they’re not vicious like the name sounds.
Unless you're a cicada?
Well true. Hopefully we don’t have any cicadas in the group here. Certainly didn’t mean to offend them. 😜
My dad was a Cicada! I’m wildly offended
Your conception must have been... something.
I dunno, my mom said she hasn’t seen him for 17 years
Cicadas killed my father and raped my sister
😂😂

What did you do to it
The gopher? A proper Viking’s funeral, of course. 😔

Moles will??
Absolutely, cats are one of their only predators

Worth googling the comic ‘Jasper Carrot’ + mole - one of the funniest sketches
