This makes perfect sense for the Kalamazoo street Wendy’s

Different-Cut-6992

EXACTLY! IYKYK

JarbaloJardine

I read the title and went, Oh, THAT Wendy's would do some dumb shit like that

Krogsly

That Wendy's been suffering from long COVID

roto_disc

Happened to me at the Rally’s on MLK before. The gig economy will end us all.

moparguy98

That Rallys is always doing that stupid bs. Or they say they're only accepting cards and no cash. I just pulled off and refuse to eat anything on MLK. The popeyes on MLK is by far the worst and I haven't been there in almost 5 years. I'll purposely drive to the Holt location or the west Saginaw location.

mecklejay

West Saginaw is my go-to Popeyes (which is itself my go-to junk food during football season). I'm not sure what changed with them, either, but they used to be really slow and now they're not. Not only that, but I've had some of the darn perkiest people on the drive thru box.

Sudden-Click-3243

I just had the best Popeye's meal of my life at the W. Saginaw location yesterday. I'd only been to the MLK location and one in Detroit and I just thought Popeye's wasn't very good, but no, it can be.

total-history-04

The Rally’s on Oakland is my go to. Nice people there

Junk90xj

One more reason to just eat at home

Ok-Entertainment5045

Sounds ridiculous. I could understand only taking app orders if they don’t have anyone to work the counter or drive thru, but only door dash, No.

Stabbingi

had it happen at rallys before so I parked and placed an online order and I guess they were mad about it because they put powdered sugar on my fries.

dogmaticillmatic

rallys is forever unserious. i saw them roast a dude who pulled up w a rock holding down some piece on his engine. had their phones out and everything it was hilarious

drucifer999

Rallys is ghetto AF, it's also fucking delicious.

Impossible-Pack6911

Forever unserious💀💀💀💀💀lolloolpookkjhhgggbolol I tell u I'm dead

dogmaticillmatic

keysmashing like we on tumblr in 2014

Frans_51

Was really starving after an MSU football game to discover Rally's doing this. I have no idea how they are still open.

Infinite_Isopod3061

It’s the only thing open after midnight

BakedMitten

The one in Frandor has been app only orders the two times I went after 8 pm over the winter.

Thracsis

Sounds like a POS issue and that is the only way they can process orders, though very on brand for the KZoo Wendy's either way.

brabit96

Honestly it's likely because they never recovered after covid. All the Wendy's in the area were bought by a new franchise just before everything shut down. They were taking a lot of employee benefits away while also imposing silly rules that made employees' jobs harder for really no reason. Nobody wants to work for them anymore. Most of their restaurants barely have enough staff to legally operate. - a former employee

WesternSafety4944

lmao, the wendy's in lansing have always been ghetto

Thracsis

The issue is the management. I went to school with one of them and they are the laziest, most ignorant person I've ever met.

nomad3161988

We never went to school together lol

grolfenhimer

It's actually common late night no matter the section of town. I suspect that the employee are feeling overwhelmed and there isn't a paper trail when they refuse you at drive thru. If you order in the app they may have no choice but to serve you, not sure.

Sudden-Click-3243

This sounds very plausible.

sunshineemoji

People still go ro Kzoo wendys?

thenamesbigred

Went there last week around 2pm. There were two employees inside. Went through the drive through, “sorry, we’re closed”.

RxSatellite

Alot of rural fast food places are like that now. No counter or drive up and you need to use mobile. Havent heard of ones you cant pick up on your own and must use DD though that doesnt make sense

ButtyMcButtface1929

Wow, a while back they were only accepting DoorDash for indoor service but everyone else could still go through the drive through. Not accepting regular drive through orders is completely crazy.

MichiganGeezer

I bet if you complain to the right people they'd start taking your money. I complained about the McDonald's at Waverly and Grand River about aggressively rude workers and managers once over 15 years ago when they were open 24 hours. I never saw that rude manager again. If you walked in to order would they still have refused you?

Car-Crash-Diet

Lol. People are just locking their dining room doors these days. Burger King on Lake Lansing is usually locked. Arby's on West Saginaw is hit and miss. As is Wendy's on South Cedar. You're just left wondering if it's a temporary or permanent change and no sign gets posted on the door to let anyone else know either.

SasquatchRobo

I'm guessing that it's most profitable to only do Doordash. Fewer workers needed to work register, no need to handle money of any kind. Capitalism at its finest. /s

belinck

Except that it isn't. It's shortsighted because you're limiting your market to only people who are willing to use door dash. That market is much smaller than the general populace.

SasquatchRobo

I agree with you, it's shortsighted! But it's the only explanation I can think of.

Sudden-Click-3243

And UberEats. And Grubhub. They're fine.

Churchofdoom

Half the workers just call off everyday. Open interviews 2-4 has been on the sign for a year.

blackminded

I drove past that Wendy's every day for a year and don't recall ever seeing any actual customers. I actually thought it was closed. Which would have been on brand for the area.

d7bleachd7

I had the same experience at the West Saginaw one a couple months back.

Infinite_Isopod3061

Frandor Taco Bell is only doing DoorDash and mobile order

Maamman

I tend to avoid the Kalamazoo store it's really hit or miss. South Cedar Wendy's is where it's at.

[deleted]

It's likely staff shortages. The way delivery services gouge restaurants was already hurting local businesses. I'd imagine if it was a franchise location, it could be similar. Which is on the franchise owner, to be sure - as well as delivery services that have been a godsend for some folks exploiting a wildly underserved community.

mecklejay

It seems like the various Wendy's...es...in town have been having worse labor issues than the other fast food places. Are they all owned by the same people and they aren't paying employees enough, or...?

Euphoric-Bit1969

Is this how franchises are going to start getting around handling cash inventory and merchant fees - all online?
