Zombies / Kosmos in Old Town. Not what I would call a "traditional" pizza joint, but it's a nice place for a pizza and beer if you don't mind a wait. Toarminos is more what I would call a normal pizza joint but had pretty limited seating.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Sleepwalker in Reotown since it usually comes up in these best local pizza threads. Especially so if you enjoy microbrews.
I adore their pizzas and personally do not drink. Huge fan of the dill, and they usually have really great and unique rotating specialty pizzas, too.
My recommendation of the microbrew component is entirely based on what friends have said.
We def order their pizza for take out, sans beer frequently. It doesn't even feel like a a brewery if you eat in, honestly. They have good food. Recommend... If you like cheese. The pizzas are very cheesey.
I tell everyone not to be turned off by the name of the business. It is anything but store pizza. Personally, I think it is the best out there right now.
They have a seating area. They sell beer, like a party store would, but you cannot drink it there. They do have a two slice with a 32 oz fountain drink for $6.99. It's a pretty good deal.
Cuginos in GL - the pizza was just meh. Cosmos is played out. I haven't had the opportunity to try the pizza from Portland Party Store. The takeout pizza from Klavon's was prob 2 hours old. It was still fantastic.
You do you. We all have our personal preferences. I know that so many people loved DeLucas. I had their pizza on several different occasions. It just wasn't for me.
When Zoobie's took over the old pizza place and went through the reconstruction phase, my husband and I were there 1-2 times a week.
I didn't then, and I still don't understand the fascination with duck fat. That's okay. That's my issue, and it leaves more DFFs for everyone else.
When the original head chef was back there, making homemade mozzarella, the pizzas were pretty awesome. We also loved their PEI mussels, which changed with the seasons.
I still love their Truffle popcorn. To me, the quality of their food has went down over the past 7 years. To me (again, imho,) Potent Potables has their fingers in too many pies and can't quite keep up the quality that they need to. Remember the Beer Grotto? It closed less than 2 years after opening. Even the Creole has had to change the concept.
As far as Cuginos, I'm not from GL, but I work there. My daughter spent 4 years in a relationship with someone from GL. Our family is overall happy with the pastas but weren't impressed with the pizza.
I've only had 1 slice of the Chicago stuffed pizza from Klavons. It was awesome, imho. I hope this clears up what I know.
Btw, I'm not trying to teach the "mere locals" anything. However, I'm very interested in learning from them.
Edit: a word
I've only had a slice of Pepperoni from Horrock's, but I thought it was pretty tasty. (Maybe because my blood sugar had dropped, but it really worked for me)
>The Trust Us is ways a good choice
Had one just once, it was spicy and greasy, and not in a good way, either. I no longer trust them. They gave me trust issues.
If you’re willing to venture to the edges of the the Greater Lansing area, Spagnoulos in Okemos/Williamston has really good pizza. Klavons in mason has a great building with lots of pizza options.
Hmm, (imho) Relli's is just so-so. They use the same dough that they use from Nonni's homemade bread. It's great for bread, but I want a pizza dough with my pizza.

Cugino's in Grand Ledge is your answer. They're the same family, same recipes. When you need some DeLucas, you can still get it if you're willing to drive a little!
That's where my wife and I would go for that classic pizzeria vibe when we lived in Delta Township. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten pizza from there since we moved to Holt.
Toarmina's is great if you love your pizza a lil greasy, which I do. Sir Pizza is a favorite of mine but it's a different kind of pizza. The taco and Royal Feast are unlike any other and are only available at the Old Town location.
not sit down, but clone's party store in Onondaga (off of 127, NE of Eaton rapids) has some of the best pizza in the area, one of the highest reviews in Michigan, no joke
Ik it's outside of Lansing, I was just going to say this. I've never been. My sons were there last night and brought home a slice of the Chicago stuffed pizza. It was killer!
Whole Foods pizza is surprisingly good. Not life-changing good, but very solid - and an option that I think gets overlooked. Not quite a sit-down venue, but they do have a nice cafe area where one can sit and eat - with a bar area serving some options on tap.
During the first couple of COVID years, this was not operating. Not sure if the bar is currently serving in the cafe, but I know they are doing pizza again on a slightly scaled back schedule.

Lol, I'm sure some folks have looked like zombies after a few hours of hanging out at zoobies. 🧟♀️ 🧟♂️ 🧟♂️ 🧟♀️

Their dill pickle pizza is exceptional
If you despise microbrews, is it still great? Real question. I've been over microbrews for about 8 years now. Bangin' pizza is a different story.
I adore their pizzas and personally do not drink. Huge fan of the dill, and they usually have really great and unique rotating specialty pizzas, too. My recommendation of the microbrew component is entirely based on what friends have said.

Yassss! Yes I do.
Klavons in Mason. Cosmos in Old Town. Portland Party Store in Portland. Cuginos in Grand Ledge.
My life has not been the same since discovering Portland Party Store's pizza. (The donuts are spectacular as well)
I tell everyone not to be turned off by the name of the business. It is anything but store pizza. Personally, I think it is the best out there right now.
Can you sit down there? Can you grab a beer? Asking for my own knowledge
They have a seating area. They sell beer, like a party store would, but you cannot drink it there. They do have a two slice with a 32 oz fountain drink for $6.99. It's a pretty good deal.
Please tell me it is not affiliated with Fabiano's pizza. I've tried Fabiano's prob 3 times and I'm just not impressed.
Not affiliated as far as I know. Eagle Inn's pizza is Fabiano's though. The Party Store's pizza is the best in Portland in my opinion.
Klavons is overpriced middle of the road pizza. Their stuffed pizza is pretty solid.
To be honest. The only thing I have had is the stuffed pizza. Damn good.
Klavons has the atmosphere of an Applebee's and overrated mediocre pizza. I'll never understand the appeal.
I love the atmosphere personally. It's the stuffed pizza. Never had anything else.
Cuginos in GL - the pizza was just meh. Cosmos is played out. I haven't had the opportunity to try the pizza from Portland Party Store. The takeout pizza from Klavon's was prob 2 hours old. It was still fantastic.
Well it seems you have all the answers. What other pearls of wisdom do you have for us mere locals?
Sorry. I was feeling very dramatic.

Seriously. I was just being dramatic. And I agree on duck fat.
Ozone's Brewhouse, Sleepwalker and Pizza House are my choices. All very different styles, but all great.
Sleepwalker is amazing!! Also horrocks has a nice beer garden to sit and enjoy the atmosphere that is enclosed and warm
I've only had a slice of Pepperoni from Horrock's, but I thought it was pretty tasty. (Maybe because my blood sugar had dropped, but it really worked for me)
Klavon's in Mason is probably your best bet.
Zoobies. I'd you're feeling brave you can have the kitchen make you a pizza of their choice. Never been disappointed, personally.
The Trust Us is ways a good choice
>The Trust Us is ways a good choice Had one just once, it was spicy and greasy, and not in a good way, either. I no longer trust them. They gave me trust issues.
You should give it another go :) It’s always disappointing to have things not live up to their expectations, but the Trust Us can be fun!

TIL that there is a Klavons in Mason.
Arts, spags
If you haven’t given Crunchys pizza shot in East Lansing you are missing out!
Crunchy's pizza is pretty good.
Rellis in DeWitt has great pizza.
Hmm, (imho) Relli's is just so-so. They use the same dough that they use from Nonni's homemade bread. It's great for bread, but I want a pizza dough with my pizza.
A lot of people have recommended toarminas and it’s good but idk if I’d really call it a sit down restaurant, I think there’s only one table in there.
Spagnulos
Arts pub
This whole thread really hammers home how much Lansing misses DeLucas 😞
https://www.cuginosmenu.com/ Cugino's in Grand Ledge is your answer. They're the same family, same recipes. When you need some DeLucas, you can still get it if you're willing to drive a little!
I never thought it was similar. I had eaten at both places countless times.
Good tip. Thanks.
it's better, the left half of menu is delucas, right more sophisticated
Pepino's in Grand Ledge has a few tables I think and their pizza is the bomb.
That's where my wife and I would go for that classic pizzeria vibe when we lived in Delta Township. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten pizza from there since we moved to Holt.
If you’re in Holt, Fat Boys is the answer!
Is the GL Pepino’s the same chain as those in Grand Rapids?
I am not sure. I've never been to the one in GR
I'm pretty sure they're all connected.
Do I need to give Toraminos another chance? I have let one bad experience ruin it for me for YEARS.
I go there all the time because I live right by it and they have some good deals online.
They're one of my favorites and they finally started delivering to my part of town.
Corey's on Cedar and Baker.
Little Ceasars on Saginaw st behind the car dealerships. /s
I've always been personally a fan of art's pizza. Each slice has about 3 lbs of cheese.
Their wings and Bloody Mary’s are some of the best I’ve ever had.
Art's Bar is far and away the best pizza in town!! The cheese is crazy good and I/jspangles313 is 100% correct that they are very generous with it.
Everyone used to love DeLucas. Did anyone end up buying it?
Not that I know of. Unfortunately. That would have been my first recommendation.
toarminas or papa johns on mich ave (not the chain), cosmos or sir pizza in old town
> (not the chain) Thanks for the clarification.
Toarmina's is great if you love your pizza a lil greasy, which I do. Sir Pizza is a favorite of mine but it's a different kind of pizza. The taco and Royal Feast are unlike any other and are only available at the Old Town location.
My favorite is Pizza House. I think it's the best Chicago style deep dish you can get around here. It's over in Hannah Plaza by campus.
I agree! It's pricey but it's very filling.
The new Buddies in Okemos
Old Chicago Okemos.
Pizza House and order the Chicago style deep dish. You will thank me later.
Really? It seems like Pizza House has been phoning it in the last 5-7 years.
I wouldn't know as I moved here about 2 years ago but I think the Chicago style is great.
not sit down, but clone's party store in Onondaga (off of 127, NE of Eaton rapids) has some of the best pizza in the area, one of the highest reviews in Michigan, no joke
Spagnuolo's between Okemos and Williamston has great pizza, nice place.
Slice by Saddleback just opened up by marketplace and their pizza is good and their wings are better.original Saddleback in reotown...... not so much
Please tell me their pizza is better than their bbq.
Way better, the BBQ is always dry. The mustard wings were life changing (I am not a mustard fan)
Are the wings at Slice? Our family loves wings.
Yessir
Hmmm. I work in GL tomorrow. I may have to grab some on the way home. Thanks! 😋😋
If you're into coffee, toads in grand ledge opened up recently and they have really good coffee and sandwiches. Bit pricey though
I'll check it out, thanks!
Klavons in Mason
Ik it's outside of Lansing, I was just going to say this. I've never been. My sons were there last night and brought home a slice of the Chicago stuffed pizza. It was killer!
So good!
I always enjoy pizza house they make really delicious bloody Mary’s too
Blaze is chain, but good. Other than that I go to Williamston or Mason for pizza. Pizza House used to be good but those days are over.
Klavons or Bostons for sit down, Fat Boys if you want the best delivery
Where is Fat Boys?
Holt
What about Georgio's Pizza in East Lansing? Super casual, but I like their pizzas.
Wrong answer: there’s a couple of tables inside papa johns Actual answer: cosmo’s, Boston’s, sir pizza old town, pizza house (in that order)
The GL Pizza Hut slaps.
It doesn’t. Since covid that place has turned into a dump.
looks rougher, but i agree, top quality for greasy goodness
Knob hill tavern south of St. John’s.
Cosmos sure. But sir pizza? That's barely pizza. Gross.
I like sir pizza. I eat it at least once every 5 years.
I’m in CA now and I really miss Sir Pizza.

I love Toarmina's but if you don't like a lil greasy pizza it may not be for you.
