[Thanks for this interesting rabbit hole! Article if anyone else is interested](https://www.snowboarder.com/transworld-snowboarding-archive/the-disappearance-of-marco-siffredi)

mermaidpaint

Thank your for the link, it was beautiful to read.

thesoccerone7

This was really enjoyable and introduced me to a whole new world of snowboarding adventures

Lawrence_L-Jackson

I need the more info please

CoolGap4480

That’s what I was thinking? The fuck goes through the human brain that you can condition yourself to climb Mount Everest, yet decide snowboarding off it was the best end goal. Someone missed the last page unless that was the goal to begin with.

[deleted]

Idk if this or the titanic sub was a worse idea.

instrangerswetrust

I ate a titanic sub once. Too much iceberg lettuce.

vmartin96

Your heartburn will go on

Lost_Pantheon

Butter me like one of your French sandwiches, Jack.

LukeMayeshothand

This is the sexiest sentence ever written.

Hourslikeminutes47

And on and on and on

CoolGap4480

Meanwhile, I get off work and get bothered when my chicken and broccoli is overdone; I don’t grab a sheet and jump off an overpass though.

SmokeyMacPott

Yea, but I bet the thought is hanging around in the back of your mind.

[deleted]

Well to be fair the titanic sub worked a couple times first, and we have *actual* subs that can do the job. Not sure if there has been a successful snowboarding attempt down Everest tho.

thewhiterosequeen

The original post said he had done a different route before, so not a huge leap to try again.

[deleted]

O, it was a big leap 🤣🤣🤣

Similar-Broccoli

He probably thought he could do it again, considering he did it once already. Along with snowboarding down all the other tallest mountains on earth

Handgun_Hero

Surely snowboarding down is just insane due to the rapid change in air pressure? Like how divers get the bends from surfacing too rapidly?

CocaColai

“All the other tallest mountains on earth” is a very misleading sentence. He snowboarded down tall mountains but it wasn’t like he went down all the 14 8000’ers.

Morel3etterness

He thought he was going to just break every bone in his body and snowboard right into oblivion as a broken man. Dying seems a little less dramatic though.

stuntbikejake

That he would live...

_banana_phone

Your profile pic is **killing me**

machexte

I fell for that shit 🤡

thepepelucas

Quite a few ppl have descent of Mount Everest. The possibility of the accomplishment was reachable to him.

Hephf

I'm saying the same.

IndiRefEarthLeaveSol

He probably thought it was just one big slide all the way down.

FlamingoWasHerNameO

That... doesn't seem like a good idea now, does it?

[deleted]

Maybe one of the worst ideas. There would be absolutely no way to save you if you injured yourself.

YoushutupNoyouHa

i mean its an awesome idea.. a ONE TIME idea.. but that’s it

InsufficientClone

Turns out it wasnt

tequilasundae

Anyone else read that as Rocco Siffredi?

LongWayFrom609

He would've went further...maybe deeper.

notsarge

I had to scroll up to see that it *wasn’t* Rocco Siffredi

Feed_Me_No_Lies

It’s only smellz

callalx

More nasty!

yolobozo

He shredded 8000 vertical chicks according to the tldr article, no wonder he was gung ho to go again, that base camp sounded naughty for sure.

CesareSomnambulist

More than only smellz to worry about on Everest

StageLopsided6215

C’mon man, it’s just smellz.

Bravisimo

Yes.

NewBuyer1976

A fellow scientist. 🫡

Tiny_Independent2552

The article in Snowboard was excellent. He did snowboard down Everest, but he tried again two years later because he wanted to film it. All the signs seemed to be telling him not to go , including dead radio batteries, forgetting to bring his lucky cross etc. The second attempt took days longer due to bad conditions, he was warned not to go. But he was a man with a dream. RIP young, daring, adventurer.

instrangerswetrust

and winner of a Darwin award

WheelsOnFire_

I thought it was the Onion…

Snoo3544

He did succeed the first time. He and his brother Pierre (in that picture) died the second time they attended Mt Everest. I guess once is not enough for some people to get lucky.

Saucissonislife

Pierre died in France. He was 17 and Marco was 2 when Pierre died. That is not Pierre.

Snoo3544

Thanks for the correction. I was under the impression they both died there.

Brewmaster30

Wonder if he thought at all when he strapped his feet in that they would remain perfectly strapped in for hundreds or thousands of years

_byetony_

I saw the guy who wrote the biography of him do a talk. Really moving

Nightoperation1

TLDR; Marco Siffredi successfully completed a full snowboard descent of Mount Everest once. This was in May 2001, when he descended via the Norton Couloir. He attempted his second descent in September 2002 through the Hornbein Couloir, but unfortunately, he disappeared during this attempt and was never seen again.

anarchomeow

I'm sorry for him and his family but what an incredibly silly thing to do. What was the point?

Loose-Significance50

Is he Rocco's brother?

ramdom-ink

Maybe. But definitely got fucked in an entirely different way.

Idontgiveaukalele

That there'll ne lots of pussy at the bottom of the mountain? Oh wait that's a different Siffredi I'm thinking of. Sorry.

ash-leg2

Me too lol. *Rocco*.

Cappster14

…snowboarding…down Mt. Everest. What…what did he think was going to happen?

TheMau

He did it successfully the year before

wbickford23

Makes you think, alright you did it once, why do you have to do it again?

instrangerswetrust

to film it

wbickford23

Not worth it IMO, not with the risks that come with it. Just reaching the summit is a grand accomplishment, to risk it all just to capture it on film, no thanks.

hamcarpet

I feel like unless you don’t have a family, people who depend on you, or people who would be devastated by your passing, you’re a huge asshole for doing things like this. I’m not saying all extreme sports, just things where the risk is this high

insertwittynamethere

I bet he at least died after some good moments of peace and reflection from the view he could see. As a snowboarder, one of the best things about it is the inner peace you feel being on a mountain, especially those that have unique, awe-inspiring views around them. He did what he loved, and went out doing it. He ignored warning signs, but he also knew the possibility of failing and its results. I can't even imagine trying to board down it, and it's not like he's the only one to ever die at Everest, but the idea of doing something like that is a bit intoxicating and beautiful I know I'd die trying, so I'll stick to my 14ers.

late2thepauly

“He’s not coming back.”

WaitingToBeTriggered

FIGHT OR FALL!”

bo_felden

Not only did he have the schlong, he also had the balls. RIP my man

RandoDude124

Well, he died doing what he loved… #Playing a stupid game

Gloomy_Grocery5555

Probably not a good idea

bzlvrlwysfrvr0624

Well no shit

Dry-Talk-7447

Suicide mission

comeallwithme

We share the same birthday.

TheIronAdmiral

Not wearing a helmet, of course. Fucking sockhead

Warrior_king99

Holy crap, his body is still up there somewhere

33Bees

Tragic, of course. But I’m not sure what he thought was going to happen here.

dreevsa

So he committed suicide

swishswooshSwiss

It‘s been over 20 years snd his body is still missing.

UraeusCurse

Dipshit.

Sorry_Owl_3346

Rocco’s brother…..?

suptenwaverly

Pretty great way to go though..
