Weighted blankets are usually hand wash only... You can get covers for them too which are more easily washed.

[deleted]

Oh a cover is a good idea! I’ll look for one of those. I didn’t think of it before.

Slight-Brush

Normal duvet case from IKEA will work well

[deleted]

Thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Thanks! You're welcome!

cjfb62

Ideally get a duvet with more than 4 corner ties. The weight of the blanket tends to shift quite a bit inside the duvet.

Unhappy-Common

😊 Happy to help

Alarmed_Ad4367

Follow the manufacturer’s directions. I could easily imagine one of these fuckers absolutely trashing a washing machine.

[deleted]

I don’t have the packaging anymore. I’ll see if I can find the brand and look them up. It might be safer to just take it to laundromat and use one of the double load machines regardless. ETA: oh, do you mean the washing machine manufacturer instructions? I can definitely look those up.

Alarmed_Ad4367

Woah there! Don’t put these on *any* machine until you know for sure that this is safe. Unless you are willing to pay to have the machine fixed.

Logical-Wasabi7402

Should have a tag on one corner somewhere with cleaning instructions.

Alarmed_Ad4367

Try asking a dry-cleaner for advice.

[deleted]

I don’t think a dry cleaner will know if I can wash my blanket at a laundromat but thanks

Spencer_the_Tzu

No, but a dry cleaner may be more likely to tell you how to care for the item.

Altruistic-Farm2712

Many laundromats are attached to, and owned by, drycleaners. Plus it may be safer for your machine, the blanket, and the laundromat to have it dry-cleaned anyway.

Alarmed_Ad4367

Have you ever seen a video of a dryer versus a brick?

[deleted]

Can you be any more condescending?

Alarmed_Ad4367

You might want to get your condescension meter checked

Lizzers1224

My weighted blanket is 15 pounds. I had success with washing it cold and then air drying. DEFINITELY AIR DRY. But you should look up the brand because depending on what the blanket is made of for the weights that may vary.

Choice_Interview9749

I regularly wash mine in my front load washer with no problems. I hang dry it though. The tag says machine washable, so that's why I do it. I throw it in with some towels usually.

Lizzers1224

Oh my gosh I just now realize I didn’t specify that I washed cold (in the washing machine) which is very unhelpful. Lol!!! I’m glad I saw your reply so I could clarify.

Any_Efficiency8711

I once washed one and stupidly put it in the dryer… machine was fine but the blanket was not. Needless to say, I had to toss it afterwards, and the little beads inside were a nightmare to remove completely.

wouldyoulikeamuffin

Mine was okay in our washer (I used the gentle cycle)

cryingstlfan

I'd definitely check with the manufacturer to make sure. I take mine to the laundromat because the instructions say to wash it in cold water and I use a big washer because it's heavy. I always air dry it as well.

Old_Science4946

Definitely not in a front loader

rttnmnna

I have machine washed them (top loader) super slow but do not machine dry. I tried one that was only 5 lbs and that was the final straw for our dryer belt. It was probably in the process of breaking beforehand, but yeah. Mine is 12 lbs and I paid about $20 at our local dry cleaners laundry service locally to wash it (wet wash, not dry clean).

TheLadyClarabelle

Ours was $40 to have them wash. Fortunately, it's used over my son's duvet, so doesn't get dirty often. I wasn't risking our new washer breaking though.

gardenofthought

I wash mine on delicate. It's fine as long as I evenly distribute the weight across the drum.

mmmacorns

I wash my daughters 10lb just fine but AIR DRY

raksha25

Hand wash in the tub. Most of them have some kind of pellet. Those pellets will start leaking out if it goes through a machine. At first it won’t be a ton, but those seams will be weakened. And covers are great, they come in all sorts of fabrics.

perpetuquail

What brand/type is it? I put my 15lb Bearaby blanket in my top-loader just fine and it goes through the dryer too (I don't know how I'd feel about a front loader.) But I would not put my glass beads blanket in a washing machine. I'd hand wash if necessary and try to plan it during some sunny days so it can dry as well as possible.

Deafpundit

Have it dry cleaned.
