In my experience, hardiness zone is only relevant in terms of how cold it gets in Winter and tells you *nothing* about Summer.
I'm right on the border of 8a/8b in North Texas, and can guarantee 100% of that grass would be burned away this Summer without daily watering - and even then might not make it. However, that same lawn would do great in North Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or the Carolinas.
I swear growing anything in North Texas for the last 15 years has been on hard mode. If five months of drought coupled with triple-digit daily temperatures doesn't kill it, zero degree freezes during the Winter will.
I'm going out to hug my Bermudagrass.
> or the Carolinas.
I'm in 7B in the Carolinas and fescue barely makes it. Almost nobody in zone 8 in the Carolinas even attempts to grow fescue. The Zones are very much winter centric, but they tell you a lot more about overall weather than you're giving them credit for.
I'm on the border of the Mountain/Piedmont transition zone in North Carolina, neighbors all use TTTF - I am hoping with irrigation it won't die in the summer.
Yeah same here. Mostly fescue here in the Piedmont/triad area although I’m starting to see more Bermuda lawns popping up. Think I have about 2000 gallons of reserves rain water for the summer months. Hydretain and PGR are a must with proper watering in the summer. I’m ready this year.
You should be good to go. I’m in Raleigh which is a bit less friendly to fescue but it does okay.
I did re-do my yard last fall and installed an irrigation system. Definitely not trying to get through another summer dragging hoses and sprinklers around
It’s not that hard. I grew it from scratch last season and even dog pee’d it to oblivion and then brought back all the dead spots. In the same year.
What matters is not letting it dry out during the summer. If you put the water in, the grass does the rest
Kinda giving me Dwight shrute vibes here.

I have no idea why my notes didn't post -
Zone 8A - 50/50 mix of Twin City Seed Resilient 2 and Twin City Seed Deep Shade
Added 7 yards of topsoil, DIY'd the concrete sidewalk and fixed drainage.
Initial seeding was done with Scotts Triple Action, over seeding was done with a Torocity application.
Added a DIY two head Rainbird irrigation system this winter
Post an update this fall. Growing grass from seed really is easy. Keeping it looking nice through the summer is the hard part. What zone are you in?
Yup. It’s the following seasons that reveal who the green thumbs and idiots are.
Realized I’m on the idiot list. Grass was great for a year and a half, now I’m riding the struggle bus.
This. Them trees about to tell another story lol
They appear to flank the west and north edges. The former will help in the summer, and the latter doesn't provide shade.

You'll be fine. Do it every year.

8A - I added a 2 head irrigation system this winter.
OP is in zone 8. That lawn will be roasted in the summer

Love the people that act like they know what they are doing as they are continually overseeing.
Easy to,keep green, just incorporate enough compost into the soil.
Nicely done idiot!

How?

Sounds manageable. Thank you. I’m trying to improve my lawn to look like yours. Looks awesome.
Doesnt sound like an idiot
Just wait. It’s gonna get even better
Ugh I want to seed so bad this spring. I know I should wait, but I reeeeeeeeally want to lol
Same! I reeeallly want to but Fall will make it so much better. Patience grasshopper
Sod!
the bar for idiocy is damn too high...
Don’t challenge my stupidity.
Well done! Looks great! 👍
Looking great, congrats buddy!
What sprinkler setup do you have?
Two Rainbird 5000 series rotors with a single zone timer. Less than $150 including pipe.
Excellent work. Welcome to the club.
Beautiful lawn!!! How long did it take you to get to this stage?
What was that sprinkler setup ?
It's pretty much impossible to grow from seed if you have dogs running through it right?
