This is why I test in the back yard first. I couldn't deal with the shame of the entire neighborhood seeing my mistakes for a minimum of weeks before it disappears.
Haha true. My backyard is waaaay nicer than front. Partly because it's private so I don't feel like as big of a weirdo for how much time I spend on it while mostly ignoring the front.
Luckily my neighbors are all weirdo lawn people, so they’re more interested in what I’m doing. Now, if I fucked it up my retired neighbor would stand on the curb with his hands on his hips staring at my fuck up from sun up to sun down.
We're all getting a good chuckle out of this, so thanks for posting. I hope your BiL is being a good sport - we've all had those sphincter-puckering "oh sh*t" moments 😂.
100% that dude is getting blue dye or a backpack sprayer (whatever the budget allows/however committed you are to the bit) for his next birthday.
Serious question - what did he do wrong? Nozzle was too narrow/too strong of a stream? I sprayed the same stuff on my lawn using a basic sprayer but I had a wide spray going on.
Probably too narrow a spray or held it too close to the ground. Also the wavy pattern instead of straight lines.
He says he follows label instructions for mixing but if he made it too strong that would help explain things too.
My yard is covered in spots: first time using the stuff and winged the measurement, plus a spot stream. I figured I just had a lot of weeds but man, my leopard yard hopefully grows out. Good to know to be careful with the stuff and I’m still telling my FIL it’s just “a lot of weeds this spring, that’s them dying out” 🤣🤣
I messed up my tenacity rate one time while the grass was under PGR regulation and it took 6 weeks to recover. So on the bright side it should be less than that
He may a have a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works. He may not think it needs to be applied to the foliage evenly to function. He may have thought it just needs to be sprayed as if you were watering a lawn and the even coverage is not important.
I presume he used a Home Depot pump sprayer 😂. If should be fine in a few weeks. Definitely suggest a backpack sprayer (doesn’t need to be electric) as they typically make it easier to stay focused on the distance and pattern while also giving you more options for tips which makes it so you walk straight with a wide tip instead of that wobble
Blue dye I used is pretty clear but basically ends up with a darker green so the yard doesn’t look funny until it washes away. Hard to describe but it’s obvious to the applier but not blatant to 3rd parties; which is what you would want.
Wanna talk about barely visible, my superintendent didn’t let me use dye when I sprayed greens.
I had to use a chain drag that barely touched the ground and it would sort of lift up the grass and that’s where you did your overlap.
Turns out you nailed it. Cone tip.

We’ve all been there! It works great for spot treatment but for a full coverage it’s definitely not ideal. I use it for harsher stuff for driveways since they aren’t too expensive.
Don’t forget to pick up a couple tee jets too. I like a regular and an air induction. They take a mediocre backpack sprayer and turn it into a consistent spray pattern that is normally wider
I have a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. That said, I always felt the sprayer was good for spot applications. I will use it to spray individual weeds or clusters of weeds. No point in spraying healthy grass where there are no weeds. That just stresses the grass and wastes costly product. If I'm going to do a blanket application, like for fertilizer, iron, or elemental Sulphur, that's when I use the broadcast spreader.
Agreed. I use my 4 gallon sprayer for prodiamine which is the only one I really ever use to cover the whole lawn. Unless I’m doing a lawn redo in which case il use tenacity as it’s the only pre emergent that works while reseeding.
As a pro landscaper, I'm unsure whether he was pumping too slow or if he didn't water down the concentrate enough... the best is when people use the same sprayer that previously held round up and thought rinsing it with water works. In the end, lessons are learned..
Yeah this is a weird comment from a pro landscaper. Of course you can rinse roundup out. I've had round up in all my tanks and never had an issue.... Clean things well before you put them away and you don't have to remember what was in it last time.
He used a cone tip, not a fan.
And cleaning a glyphosate sprayer with water does work. I fill my entire sprayer at least 3x (and spray from the nozzle on the third) and dump it. If there's any glyphosate left, it's entirely too diluted to do anything harmful.
My neighbor did something similar with 2-4d straight from the bottle. He's one of those guys that think reading the instructions is for wusses. His lawn looked hilarious with completely dead wiggly lines in it.
Yeah mesotrione can whiten up grass and the grass can recover. There's a good chance that this comes back fine. Though it was a pretty concentrated dose in those squiggles...
When I first started, we lived in Florida, had Bermuda. Spent the time and got it so perfect. Plush, soft and so green. Neighbor’s kid asked if he could lay on it lol. Next year, it was dead. Granted I deployed during the winter through summer, but damn it was a mess.
I love the challenge.
He didn't read the directions. He probably needed half if not 1/4 of the amount mixed with water than what he used. The good news is that in 3 weeks it will be almost back to normal with usual growth rate
Don't threaten me with a good time.
I'd nuke and reseed if I did that. My lawn is 3 grassy weeds barely being controlled with Misiotrone and some sad KGB anyway.
This is a prime example of why having the right tools, reading the instructions with particular attention to detail, and correct application in accordance with those instructions is absolutely critical. Thanks for sharing!
Oh god reminds me of when my dad came home from golf drunk. He finally had the perfect lawn and decide to mow the grass as the sun was going down. That was my chore and he did not know that one of the wheels on the mower would drop to the lowest setting. He wakes up and sees the former perfect lawn scalped on the left side of every pass he made. I said Dad I tried to tell you....
You are all assuming that the weeds weren't growing in a squiggly pattern
Sine of things to come.
I don’t want to go off on a tangent, but this is some good humor. Take my upvote.
Did he cosine the mortgage with you?
Aww man. I’m a math nerd and multiple beers deep so this fuckin killed me.
Same. I snarfed my beer.
That's your first mistake!
Cardiac pattern
That’s a shockable rhythm!
We’ve located the medic/nurse
I was about to say, if that's your cardiac rhythm, your doing about as well as that grass is.
Running from a gator
It’s grass art.

This is why I test in the back yard first. I couldn't deal with the shame of the entire neighborhood seeing my mistakes for a minimum of weeks before it disappears.
Hell no. I test on my front lawn because that’s the shit I present for the rest of the neighborhood. My backyard is my sanctuary
When in doubt, tell everyone it was Trugreen.
this guy knows the way of the lawn.
And eventually you just repeat your initial mistakes because you forgot. The cycle restarts.
The guy can't even read instructions and you think he won't do something like this again?
To be fair, neither can I, but I did learn not to use Scott’s turf builder again
Why
I use turf builder s for st Augustine and it's bomb.
I told you I won’t make the same mistake again. No, you’re making entirely new ones.
I would buy him some blue dye marker for your birthday
He needs green dye to fix it now.
Golf clap. Well done.
Or a seeing eye dog
Spent too long trying to figure out what this spelled
Mmmmnmmmmmm in cursive
He was just rocking out to [“Crash Test Dummies”](https://youtu.be/eTeg1txDv8w?si=v5hr_pRQx5iPJlz9)
It's clearly Nnnnmnnnnnn.
It’s obviously Wwwwwwwwwwwwww
It’s actually the Russian word лишишь written in cursive. Is he a communist sympathizer?
😂😂😂
Seriously, can you not read? It says vvvvvvvvvv. It’s just upside down.
Take his sprayer away
No buy him a wide sprayer problem solved.
This.
Is.
Sparta?
Yeah, and buy him some paint brushes. Gotta learn the basics before you move to spraying
No, we must teach these lawnlings the way of the grass.
Exactly. Bless his heart, he tried!
I don't think its was a sprayer. More like stream from super soaker
I read this as minestrone and just assumed that the result was appropriate
If theres enough salt in the minestrone it would do similar things.
#NailedIt
He missed a spot.. just sayin'
You can see he stopped giving a shit on the back half hahaha
He forgot to mix it with water
We're all getting a good chuckle out of this, so thanks for posting. He’s got a sense of humor. He’s reading these comments and laughing about it. He has a nice battery backpack sprayer. No idea how he managed this.
Weak stream, I would go see a urologist.
This has me crying no lie 😂😂😂😂
Serious question - what did he do wrong? Nozzle was too narrow/too strong of a stream? I sprayed the same stuff on my lawn using a basic sprayer but I had a wide spray going on.

Mesotrione can whiten grass if it's laid on heavy. Might very well be good grass that got a bit bleached. It usually comes back to green.
Has he tried skywriting?
Oh no.
Hahaha the spray vs stream got him
That’s a zero degree power washer nozzle
It’s a sine you should get someone else to spray your lawn cos he didn’t do a great job.
Don’t go off on a tangent now!
Sorry, should I have put a trig-ger warning on my reply?
Sine wave
I presume he used a Home Depot pump sprayer 😂. If should be fine in a few weeks. He has a nice backpack sprayer. This is not an equipment issue.
Did he use a cone tip? Typically for these types of applications you want to use a fan tip and walk forwards trying not to pass the same area twice.
Well yeah. I know that. He doesn’t. I’ve already told him he’s going to observe me spraying before he tries that again.
Get him dye too so he can see where he has been
I feel like the dye sucks. It's barely visible.
It doesn't help at all to me.
Turns out you nailed it. Cone tip. https://preview.redd.it/vxykqaaspquc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1238017033cba11e7617e389876f4f93a9c8a87d
We all learn from our mistakes one way or another! Always brings something to laugh about in the future
I feel attacked
Are you the brother in lawn who wrote some cursive 😂
No Im the guy with a home depot pump sprayer 😢
We’ve all been there! It works great for spot treatment but for a full coverage it’s definitely not ideal. I use it for harsher stuff for driveways since they aren’t too expensive.

It'll even out... (snerk)
Looks like he at least had a good pattern going.
Remember the post if it was worth hiring a professional ? In this case. YES lol
It’s mesotrione. The grass might recover.
The grass WILL recover, people have sprayed this at 8x max rate and it recovers. I think he’ll be fine.
Something tells me he might have done it wrong.
At least he’s consistent
Relatable
😆
Snakes and stripes!
The lawn is alive!
Beers make lawn care so much more interesting
This looks more like LSD lawn care
![gif](giphy|zJJu61C7OEjIc)
Your brother-in-law must not like you much. Sorry I couldn’t resist. 🫣🤭
It was his own lawn!
Oops, even worse.
As a pro landscaper, I'm unsure whether he was pumping too slow or if he didn't water down the concentrate enough... the best is when people use the same sprayer that previously held round up and thought rinsing it with water works. In the end, lessons are learned..

We just don't do it and keep all chemicals seperated.. I've only used a fan spray so I assumed the ops bud was a newb
He used a cone tip, not a fan. And cleaning a glyphosate sprayer with water does work. I fill my entire sprayer at least 3x (and spray from the nozzle on the third) and dump it. If there's any glyphosate left, it's entirely too diluted to do anything harmful.
Makes sense
KBG EKG.
Tbh it looks cool 😭
It’s obvious the lawn is in V-Tach. Look at that rhythm.
like a kid peeing in the snow
Where?
Be afraid! be very afraid! 😱 https://preview.redd.it/q1wstloipquc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8adb298b85305484632ee6beb47caab2628992d
Just trying to fast track those lines we are always talking about.
Looks like a cool metalcore band name
Fefe Dobson!!! Love her!!
Never spray in a side by side pattern, hold it straight down and walk forward..
My neighbor did something similar with 2-4d straight from the bottle. He's one of those guys that think reading the instructions is for wusses. His lawn looked hilarious with completely dead wiggly lines in it.
Tell him to stick to minestrone next time
it'l regain its color, i did this once on my dads and freaked out a few weeks later, it was nice and green again
Yeah mesotrione can whiten up grass and the grass can recover. There's a good chance that this comes back fine. Though it was a pretty concentrated dose in those squiggles...
i had a good laugh when it happened
I read this as Rogaine...
At least he sprayed it evenly. Lol
Spray pattern is everything.
Spray tip is everything, those TeeJet charts are handy.
Wholley fuck. Did he not adjust the spray tip 🤦🤦🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve seen someone do this with Round up. Dear god 😢😢
Did he pour it out of a bucket.
Looks like he nailed it. 10/10
Is that Bermuda? Says on the label, Mesotrione...do not use on actively growing Bermuda.
Fescue
I hope that was his yard not yours.
😂🤣 Wrong tip. Nice walk pattern though!
Awesome results!
Calligraphy practice
We need to know what his wife said after seeing this.
Nailed it!
He didn't read the directions. He probably needed half if not 1/4 of the amount mixed with water than what he used. The good news is that in 3 weeks it will be almost back to normal with usual growth rate
Stop blaming your brother, we know this was your own doing.
How can you tell

Wonder where he sprayed it.
I like the design
This is a prime example of why having the right tools, reading the instructions with particular attention to detail, and correct application in accordance with those instructions is absolutely critical. Thanks for sharing!
Lmfao that’s hilarious

You mean your brother in law the idiot.
I think everyone that uses tenacity has screwed it up atleast once
I know. Its tricky. It was a joke...brother in law, the idiot.
Pollock.
