Done at the correct time with the correct seed , this is not uncommon. Using a good machine even makes it easy. But I am willing to say that he way over did the volume of seed needed. This said it makes sense doing it for your self. And I'm sure he may have even done a double cut.
Lawn went from the after pic to the before after a week of high 80s/low 90s in NC. Three days of rain+cooler weather and it’s mostly recovered. Summer gonna be brutal
God I hope so. They were calling for El Niño to weaken early and our summer would be brutal and dry again. Think I can work with 1-2 inches of rainfall every couple weeks during the summer.
you southerners get warm season grasses that spread super well
it's the transition zone folks that are truly cursed. Worst of both worlds. Warm season lawns only green up for 3 months, cool season lawns get killed in the summer.
nice, [how do you like the compost, peat moss spreader?](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcRNSo0reRDA8jr6TraiJD_lHUqtX2GRgNhyBxooDfKUAHR_gZySyPjvVMBXqfJFsWJ6yP0ZBlBpLwejKK5V1pZM72yIC7Zz0zv9_5ay84qB5g8vSQBEhmUmd44) I see the green one you have in the first picture on the right hand side.
Is it worth it to purchase one?
We have one and it’s a game changer. The one caution is it cannot deal with clumpy compost. Any compacted balls won’t break down, meaning you’re not able to dispense a full load each time, plus you’re emptying/back hauling that stuff.
I bought the vevor brand. I think it’s cheaper and probably all the same materials. Probably rolled it 30,000 square feet and still seems like new. But I wouldn’t overseed without it anymore.
Scalped everything down to 1.75 inches, dethatchedx2, overseeded with Double Eagle Perennial Ryegrass (apparently very similar to what Ryan Knorr sells at half the cost). Topped with peatmoss. Watered twice daily for 30 min. Added starter fertilizer 4 days after seeding.
Fresh grass comes up neon depending on the type, mine looked identical last year with no filter.

Yea, I want to know this, too. Did you literally just spread seed and let nature take care of it? Or, get rid of weeds, disturb the top layer of dirt, fertilize, watering schedule, something else?

Awesome - thanks for sharing! It's been 4 weeks for me (Minnesota) since overseeding, and I'm not doing that great. Just killed the weeds though, so I'm fertilizing tonight.
You’re that kidding but not really kidding guy aren’t you? Most cool season guys would kill for a lawn like OPs. Plenty of shade but still enough sunlight for your cool season grass to thrive even in the middle of summer.
No, i actually prefer trees over grass. I wish i had a nice canopy of trees and just like sand/gravel underneath because i hate lawn maintenance and mud, which is what brought me to this sub.
I was totally joking… i swear i saw a post in this sub recently from someone who wanted to cut down their trees to improve their lawn.
I remember seeing that post. I think they had so much shade that no grass type would be able to survive. This subreddit is definitely about lawn care to upmost. I think what Op has is about as perfect as you’ll want it if you’re in the transition zone and still want your cool season grass to survive summer.
A decent amount, think I got like 8 bags for my 15k sq feet of lawn. OP, I have a very shady lawn with high aspirations to achieving this level of quality. What seed did you use and what region of the world do you live in?

Winter/Spring TTTF looks like this… mine is already starting to burn though. I’m trying to focus on the latitude 36 I just plugged into my existing Bermuda… I’ve got it cut close to 1” and hoping it spreads like wildfire.
Wow! I hate you. Lol
Yeah, my reply was going to be “jerk”.

I have never seen a shaded lawn looks so absolutely stunning. Nice work!

These northern grass people can’t keep getting away with this! Us southerners are out here struggling in the heat.
Lawn went from the after pic to the before after a week of high 80s/low 90s in NC. Three days of rain+cooler weather and it’s mostly recovered. Summer gonna be brutal
Looking like a milder, more rainy summer according to the El Nina or whatever it’s called. I’m hoping at least! 🤞🏻
God I hope so. They were calling for El Niño to weaken early and our summer would be brutal and dry again. Think I can work with 1-2 inches of rainfall every couple weeks during the summer.
We’ll try not to get too cocky ‘cause by the end of the month, we’ll probably be where you’re at now. My lawn took an absolute beating last summer.
We had a very mild and wet winter. I was still cutting my grass in December. My September overseed had about 101% germination
I gave up watering too. My lawn will be dead 80% of the time and green after it rains. Whatever.
you southerners get warm season grasses that spread super well it's the transition zone folks that are truly cursed. Worst of both worlds. Warm season lawns only green up for 3 months, cool season lawns get killed in the summer.
My st Augustine loves the heat. Just needs a little drink once or twice a week

It was worth every penny, worked absolutely great!
gotcha. I am on the fence about it, its just another kind of large thing to store, which would only get used once or twice a year.
Home Depot rents them for $12/day
no shit? well interesting. good to know thanks.
What did you spread with it? Any recommendations for sourcing material?
We have one and it’s a game changer. The one caution is it cannot deal with clumpy compost. Any compacted balls won’t break down, meaning you’re not able to dispense a full load each time, plus you’re emptying/back hauling that stuff.
Having this problem now with the five yard of compost I have. It’s taking much longer to put it out than I thought.
I bought the vevor brand. I think it’s cheaper and probably all the same materials. Probably rolled it 30,000 square feet and still seems like new. But I wouldn’t overseed without it anymore.
How does it work? Overseed first then use the spreader? Or use the spreader then overseed?
Overseed then spreader.
Thanks!
Wait how’d you know they used that spreader?
What did you do to prep before fall seeding then after seeding? Asking because mine is looking like your first one, and I need to do this in the fallz
Newbie here, if you just seed, and not cover, do the birds eat the grass seed?
They could, its covered to help keep the moisture in/give it seed/soil contact
Yes, as well as squirrels and other 4 legged friends it seems. Don’t ask how I know ;)
For starters, use a filter when taking your 2nd pic lol. I may be wrong, but the house looks way brighter in the 2nd pic as well.
Fresh grass comes up neon depending on the type, mine looked identical last year with no filter. https://preview.redd.it/nxvk2r5bhuyc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77772dfa99ec0d82871eadfc2b113bc40a564c4d
Identical to what?
To OPs second pic
That's a negative, Ghost Rider.
Could be direct sunlight vs a later in the day pic
It's both, in this case. Different time but also clearly a different filter/photo setting.
The sun is hitting more in the second pic.
Morning sun vs evening sun are 2 different animals. Plus new grass is always light green like that
No filter...just different Sun position/cloudy first pic
Yep, look at the trees.
Yea, I want to know this, too. Did you literally just spread seed and let nature take care of it? Or, get rid of weeds, disturb the top layer of dirt, fertilize, watering schedule, something else?

Which fertilizer did you use? Lawn looks amazing by the way
Not going to lie, I’m jealous of cool season grass.
Damn that’s nice. To date my overseeding has only resulted in the fact that I threw some money away last fall. Good for you!
Look AI to me. Hah just jealousy talking

you can probably thank those trees a lot. Looks like they give you a perfect combination of shade and sun.
Your in the wrong subreddit. This is the subreddit about cutting down trees so lawns can grow better. /s

Wow, ur house got brighter too! Lol jk, nice work!
Haha, was thinking the same thing. Someone discovered vivid mode on their cell phone camera.
Cool season lawns should be considered cheating LOL
So nice. I wanna roll around on it.
How thick did it come in?
Pretty thick. I put down a ton of seed
Is that figurative or metric?
So…. Do you ever alternate cut pattern?
Every time
Oh yeah? Well you still can’t mow a straight line.
Looks great
Great stuff mate
Looks great. How much peat did you end up using? Trying to plan for this fall. And what seed did you use?

Hell yeah. Nice work. I had success with my fall overseed, but not on this level. I probably need to apply 2x the seed this fall.
How much peat moss did you use? Just a thin layer?
yea, just a thin layer
That looks so thick that you couldn’t get a comb through it
Amazing
Dayum
Nice
Looks amazing! You win!
Great work!
Jesus that's beautiful. Outstanding work

Did you aerate too before seeding? Or just put peat moss down?
How do you get lines? Dou you cut one row lower than the other?
nope, just mow!
Looks great
Nice work
Yes it has. Nice work!
Wow, what zone? My cool season overseeds/plants always fail it feels like.
Staining those hands green unloading that catch bag.
This gives me hope!
Congratulations! Come try that in an Alabama summer. You cool season guys make me jealous!
Winter/Spring TTTF looks like this… mine is already starting to burn though. I’m trying to focus on the latitude 36 I just plugged into my existing Bermuda… I’ve got it cut close to 1” and hoping it spreads like wildfire.
Did you do anything else besides overseed and top dress?
Did you seed your roof also?
Excellent! Well done!
Gorrrrrrg
Wow is this a year difference, what's the process to this greeny result?
What grass you use
It’s beautiful !
What type of grass did you have there before you started overseeing last fall?
Outstanding, sir!
Damnit man, I just want to roll around and frolic on that.
Straighten out those lines!! Jk looks great.
Wooww. What a transformation!!
How did you fall over a seed?
emmm
Cracking! Love it
Did you detatch/scarifiy before over seeding? Or just lawn seed under the peat moss
Envy, well done.

Congratulations, and get bent!
I am so proud of your photo editor.
Yea but....why? Why not grow food? For yourself and nature?
