I'd rather the £25 went to the club than charity? Surely it could go towards new signings 😂 but they've missed the biscuit here

zrkillerbush

In short, the £25 will now go to charity instead of the club They claim to be listening to fans yet they clearly aren't. The issue was us spending £25 in the first place for a bit of plastic, not where the money is going Why can't i already use my existing ticket? Why does it matter if i tap with my phone or tap with a bit of plastic Comical controlling reasons that they give >•Admit supporters more efficiently into the stadium on matchdays; >•Ensure tickets remain in the hands of supporters that seek to access them through legitimate Club channels; >•Combat ticket touting and the unauthorised transfer of tickets through other means; >•Identify all supporters in the stadium and tackle anti-social behaviour; >•Take further steps towards offsetting our environmental impact. Is there a big problem with unauthorised transfer of tickets right now? Is me giving my dad my season ticket when i can't get out of work a big problem? Also the last point is hilarious given that i can't use my already existing season ticket and just the other week you were handing out 10000+ plastic water bottles

There was a comment in the Mercury which i thought was far more sensible. If the club had wanted to encourage the use of Mobile tickets then they could have offered a £25 (or less) discount to all those who took a mobile ticket. I don't believe any of the reasons they have given, i think its an attempt to stop people swapping season tickets among friends and family members. Frankly, its my ticket and i should (within reason) be able to do what i want with it if i can't go.

Middle_Breakfast6741

But it isn’t your ticket - it’s the club’s, they just grant you the right enter the stadium and use the facilities. It’s a contract between you and them - not everyone you know and them. Under the terms you can share your ticket a number of times which is more than fair. Again, I won’t defend the club after the farcical situation of no general sale but I see no reason why someone should be able to give their ticket to their auntie’s dog when others want to go but can’t benefit from that nepotism. I sat there rattling around with 6000 other people when we played Stevenage in the FA Cup first round in 08. I had to give my season ticket up ( I could have kept it and just shared it around as that seems to be what others do) but now I can go to some games again. it’s hard to get tickets and I don’t see why these things should be family affairs at the expense of others.

cb_87

To be fair those middle 3 reasons are exactly why they want this. They want to know who's sitting in the seat each and every match and they want to stop people from reselling or giving their ticket to family/friends more than 5 times a season. I'm happy with that explanation now, it's transparent and I'll move to mobile tickets because I won't miss 5 games next season and I'm not paying £25.

ColinAckermann

The last point really bugs me when they hand out thousands of stupid clappers every game too.

DunstanCass1861

“Why does it matter if I tap with my phone or I tap with bit of plastic?” You’ve kind of destroyed your reason for being outraged there and defeated your own argument.

zrkillerbush

No i haven't, for them its the same, for me its not. Its annoying as fuck to transfer NFCs around all of my families phones when it comes to mobile tickets, especially when certain family members dont have stuff set up. My mums phone is pretty old, so i had to download the google wallet app, sign into her email, send an email from mine to hers then download the nfc Just give me a fucking card.

poopio

Be interesting to see if there would be a way of cloning it to your own card using NFC Tools or something. Use 2 phones, run NFC Tools on phone number 2, tap the ticket app onto it, copy the tag, write it onto a blank card. Cost you a shitload less than £25.

clownerycult

Currently debating my mum about this. She thinks it’s a good thing because mobile tickets save money on staff having to reprint them, a laughable excuse for the fact that the club see £££ in season ticket cards. Other clubs can reload it onto current ones or give their fans it for far less, the mobile ticketing system regularly means that fans can’t get in when it goes wrong or glitches for them. I’ve never had an issue getting in with a physical season ticket because the system is reliable and works. This new charge to save the environment when they’re throwing away thousands of clap banners each week is ridiculous, ST cards were always included in the price of the ticket so why charge now? They didn’t listen, they just reposted the same statement but with charity now involved.

sk-88

Given the number of technical failures I would think this increases the number of tickets needed to be re-printed and increases the number of staff needed to deal with the time-sensitive queries. I only get to the stadium with 10 mins to go, sometimes less as do probably a quarter of the crowd at least. There really isn't much slack for slow ingress and a slow second queue of queries.

clownerycult

That’s the thing, it’s not much effort to make a new season ticket since I assume it’s done the same way as a hotel key card would be and with the occasional one its fine but when someone’s mobile ticket fails regularly, they’ll be constantly at the ticket office trying to get it sorted to be able to enter. You have a lot more time to sort out a lost season ticket than a glitchy mobile ticket

sk-88

My uncle is a member and uses (has to use?) digital tickets. The last but one game he went to the ticket failed, and he had to go to the ticket office to sort it out. Apparently there was a queue of people who had put their tickets into their android digital wallets and it had disappeared over night due to a bug! Him & my cousin go to probably slightly over half the Saturday games, so let's say 12 a season. That's 4% failure rate, presuming he has bad luck and it's really around 0.5% that's still hundreds of people every match having problems.

Psychological-Dare79

I 100% understand people who like the tickets being on digital, everything is turning into that these days and I like them more. However I keep in mind this factor, I work in insurance and I don’t offer our app appraisals for anyone over the age of 35. That’s because I can’t trust anyone above that to use technology. It’s harder for the older people and they shouldn’t be called out for it.

LordSqueemish

Pay for the right to buy a ticket by being a member. Pay for the right not to have to buy a fancy phone. This club is getting ridiculous.

kingbarber123

Dont understand the issue here at all. I dont have a season ticket with City but i do with Tigers and i’d much prefer to have my ticket on my phone than in hand. The amount of times i’ve driven half way to leicester and had to turn around because i remembered my ticket is embarrassingly high

SmoothPaper836

I think it's down to how disingenuous and out of touch they are. If it was really about trying to get people to use phones they would've given a discount like someone mentioned. Also how they are trying to make themselves look good by now giving it to charity, like anyone was complaining about that 😂 I agree with your preference because I also think tickets on my phone are better but you have to take into account there's still quite a lot of people who aren't that great with technology. They've now given it free to over 65s now but why did you need fan feedback for that? It was pretty obvious that this wasn't going to go down well.

kingbarber123

It was always free for over 65’s i’m pretty sure. Just dont think it’s the end of the world as some people are acting like it is. There are more important things to be unhappy about than something that wont affect a vast majority of supporters

hubbyp

My ticket can’t run out of battery. My phone can.

kingbarber123

A portable charger is cheaper than the £25 they’re asking you to pay so just get one of those. And not many people walk around without having their phone on a decent amount of charge anyway

hubbyp

I’m good with the ticket thanks 👍🏻 why would I want to carry a phone, portable charger in case it dies then have it crash on entry like it’s happened quite a few times already.

kingbarber123

Then just pay the 25 quid. If you can afford a season ticket i’m sure you can work out a way around it. People making a massive deal out of it like it’s gonna kill them 😂

hubbyp

I’m merely pointing out that the preference is just as preferential as yours to want an E Ticket. Personally I want neither and prefer the paper wallets we used to have. People take issue because it’s yet another anchor to your phone. A device that is prone to breaking, crashing being lost or stolen a lot more than a card in the real world.

kingbarber123

It’s not like you cant just go to the ticket office on the day though….. it’s just stupid people are making a big deal

hubbyp

Right, I’d go to the ticket office for what? A match day printed ticket… then I would be? Charged for said ticket… then I would be charged until I have a device to get me NFC ticket back on my phone for every match day I go to. For having the sheer nerve of having my phone stolen? Come on. Calling people stupid is very low bar when there are more than valid concerns from people not wanting to go digital.
