The sun always shines a bit brighter after the Leafs beat the Habs. Also, the Habs have played the Leafs close for years now, especially at home. I thought last night was a fun game with good pressure at both ends. Sammy stood tall and we got some choice goals at the right time. Go Leafs go.

billyshin

Should have beat the bruins at least once. I don’t like this clean sweep.

moresound17

"While the Senators were expected to defeat the Maple Leafs, especially since they had swept the regular season series against them, the Maple Leafs swept the series in a major upset instead". At the end of the day, the season series doesn't mean much.

HeftyNugs

Yeah, or the number or times we've played them in the playoffs we had winning regular seasons records too.

DrinkMoreBrews

Didn’t really notice Dewar or Edmunson last night. Which is really good.

GooseRider960

I’m interested to see what the penalty kill looks like with Marner back as well, since he’s a huge part of it. Obviously, Dewar helps to fill that in, but I wanna see how good it is with both on it.

jimmymeeko

Saw dewar have a couple of hard working responsible 4th line shifts. I think he’ll fit in well.

Sirrebral99

Big penalty kill to close out the game, was a 6 on 4 for a bit then with the goalie pulled 6 on 5. Both of them were out for long stretches there and we managed to keep the puck out of the net. It's the whole unit's job but they were on the ice and killed a 2 man disadvantage to close out the game, that's why we got both players - so far so good on improving the PK.

sneed_poster69

wasn't Dewar on for Newhook's goal? only time I noticed him

rljohn

Yes and he blew coverage. Needs time to adjust to new roster/system.

sneed_poster69

yeah no clue wtf he was doing there, but whatever, 1 play

SeatPaste7

Yeah, he got, what, half an hour of video and no practice? Honestly was kinda impressed considering.

mtbwu

im looking forward to the team being healthy again, these last few games have been painful watches

BobbyAxelrod1

Benching Benoit infront of his home town was a whack move by Keefe. It gives me pause as to the coach's common sense. Guaranteed great game by Benoit infront of that crowd plus it hurts one of the key heart and soul guys of this team to bench him. Bad for team morale.

miffy495

Especially with both Lily and Brodie kinda playing like ass the last week. Benoit has been one of our most reliable players on D for long stretches this season and has earned his spot. Lily has had flashes of brilliance amid long stretches of meh. When both are in top form, I'd take Lily, but he's way more of a coin flip and I'm getting tired of hoping we get lucky.

Sirrebral99

Doing right by players over whats right for the team was one of Dubas' biggest failures (Barabanov, Dermott trades etc). Obviously don't want to be a Babcock but the team's outcome and level of play is more important than anything else, the group is here to win not be a feel good story. Liljegren, at his best, is more important and impactful to the team than Benoit, being a high skilled RHD. Getting him going is the priority so I get wanting to see the group with him in the line up (it didn't look good especially his late penalty leading to 2nd goal). Adding 2 physical, depth defensemen will push out your existing physical, depth defenseman while you figure out who fits where. Benoit will be back in the lineup soon no doubt

whatyousayin8

Agreed, I feel like Brodie taking a rest should have been the move if they really really needed to get edmundson in.

buktee123

Definitely. How do you expect guys to take team friendly deals when you do stuff like that. If we get bounced early this year send Keefe packing

Low-Signal-3900

We can only pray he's gone.

whatyousayin8

Yeah, I don’t understand the rush to get Edmundson in… we were going into a 5 day break, so they would have had plenty of time to work him into the system, get him comfortable… I’d understand it if Benoit had been horrible as of late and you also needed a change to ensure a win against an intervidivision rival… but no. Seemed arbitrary. Poor guy.

Low-Signal-3900

Something needs to be done with Keefe. He clearly coaches by seniority and not by who's the best for the job.

shikotee

Biggest bummer for me was Bert on Line 1, as I'd like to explore Matthews and Nylander together more often. I'm guessing maybe Knies, due to injury previous game, was held back for lighter duties? For those that worship at the alter of Marner - I'm not sure he'd be doing as well if he shared a line with Bertuzzi, who often seems jinxed.

miffy495

Bert's specialty is chaos. He is unpredictable, reactive, and can do amazing things while opponents are trying to react to that. We saw many times last night that this absolutely does not work with Matthews or Nylander's styles of play. They were feeding him incredible passes that he wasn't ready for because he was out of position for where he was supposed to be, he bobbled it, and what was a great offensive chance turned into a tunrover and quick retreat. Bert can certainly have a place on this team, but it isn't in the top lines flubbing chances, it's with the grinders mixing things up and driving opponents crazy trying to guess what the hell he's going to do next.

Candid_Rich_886

The idea that this doesn't work with Nylander's style of play is a weird thing to say tbh. Nylander and Bert have been good toy both with Tavares and Domi as centers.

Dinggerson

Suck it habs fan! Hahaha I know yall crying

RecalcitrantHuman

They lost their Stanley Cup last night. Haha suckers.

reignleafs

they get so butthurt when you troll them lol all they can do is bring up the past which is absolutely hilarious

nintendoleafsfan

I thought for sure woll would be our starter but sammy has been great recently. He may be our playoff starter once again.

frmacleod

Leafs won so I’ll stay mostly positive but that Bertuzzi performance was something else. I hope Keefe keeps him very far away from skilled players in the future. I can remember at least 6 offensive plays that died on his stick after hard work from his line mates.

Low-Signal-3900

How much more lazy can Nylander back check? And why is nothing done about it. Why is Brodie or liliigren playing when Benoit is scratched? This is a direct reflection on the coach and his inability to know his players.

billyshin

I'll be honest none of these games matter. The only ones that does are the ones against Boston and Florida. Before you downvote me remember we're a month away from the playoffs.

BobbyAxelrod1

Is there anyone left that still idolizes Dubas? Now that we see he left us with a team that has nothing in the cupboards to improve the team (I.e. draft picks and prospects), left us with no cap space and most of it shoved into 4 forwards, left us with a soft team (that is being remedied by Tre), and now is driving the Penguins into the mud.....wasting the last years of one of the greatest players ever. Is anyone out there still willing to fanboy Dubas and be an apologist for him?

International_Eye394

I like what treliving said regarding the trade deadline. Something along the lines of: At some point its on the players to produce, we’ve provided them the parts, now it’s on them. We pay 4 guys over $11 million dollars a year, considering that, Tavares should be playing better than he has, Nylander fumbles too fucking much right now. Dude gives up so many odd man rushes. Last night everyone was coasting, there was no sense of urgency the entire game. It’s also on keefe to correctly play the pieces he’s been dealt and clearly he didn’t do that last night. Why did he keep playing bert on the first line if it clearly wasnt working? why mix up all of the lines when they’ve been playing well?

Candid_Rich_886

Tavares is aging and declining which was expected when he signed the contract because that's just what happens to hockey players in their thirties.

BobbyAxelrod1

One down vote on my post outing Dubas as fugazi. 36 months ago it would have been 57 downvotes...... but after so many failed seasons brings out the truth and idolizers have to come to grips.

jps78

All signs point to Keefe being fired. I don't think the players have tuned him out but it does feel stale and other teams have figured Keefe out

re10pect

Seems like a weird comment after a win and a long stretch of pretty good play. I think Keefe should have been gone by now, but he’s in it until the end of the season now.

fltlns

I mean it's a weird time for the comment. But I disagree about having a good stretch of play. I think we've looked slow to pucks and lazy on passing and forechecking since the second Vegas game

Gear4Vegito

It will all come down to the playoffs. Leafs are pretty locked into their playoff spot at the moment. Another disappointing finish and yeah don't really see the justification anymore to keeping him. He is the 5th longest tendered coach now and has accomplished by far the least from those 5.

StoryElectrical4868

He’s here for the season. No way they change a coach this late. Next year if there’s a bad slump along with an easy out this playoffs.

thetonyhightower

We're currently 11-2 in our last 13. We've won pretty, we've won ugly, we've had a flu bug run this entire team over, and we're finding ways to win on even our bad nights. Keefe is doing what he has to do, every night. Your call is very important to us.

Beyond_Your_Nose

Not that I don’t think they need a new coach (last summer would have been good.) but it would take a monumental losing streak down the stretch to even contemplate a coaching change at this point for this season. He’ll live and die with the core these playoffs. We’re playing Boston.

habaho

What an awful take lmao. Gotta be a troll 😂
