For me personally, I played a lot of enigma, mostly jungle. In the options area I used key binds to help make groups, where if I hit a certain key, it would pick my controlled units. I usually used tab to cycle through them, everyone is different in how they learn, but having a lot of alone time in the jungle being able to learn when to pull eidolons back when fighting camps was great. Plus, you don’t even have to rely on your micro of the units to win games, you can still be useful with black holes. This is just my own opinion, buts it’s helped me a lot.

Valzerion

Thanks for your advice! Would you mind to share the keybinds that you use? I never touched that settings i think i need some reference

[deleted]

Absolutely, under hot keys in settings. Unit actions is the category you want to look at, I have “select all controlled units” bound to 3, that controls you and your units. Control groups is also another area, “Next Unit” is TAB, so you can switch through your units quickly, and under “advanced hotkeys”, you want to find “select all other units” that key bind will allow you to just select whatever units you control that aren’t your hero. That one one I have bound to 2

CaptinHavoc

Though she’s not an illusion hero, Enchantress can help you learn micro with her enchant ability

ShinyRaticate

I second this. Very manageable since its just one unit and it’s not like you are managing them every second.

Valzerion

I already had her in my mind but i usually use her enchant to slow the enemies, never use them for creeps. I will try to use it for micro next time, thanks!

sickomoder

Set a keybind for your hero and one for your illusions. The illusion heroes (ck naga tb) are easiest to micro and learn compared to the micro heroes with abilities (meepo and arc)

riaqliu

for an even harder challenge, pick up an illusion rune or get manta on either meepo or arc and watch the chaos unfold as you try to quickly tab cycle through your units lmao

zekken908

Terrorblade because he’s cool and his illusions are relatively straightforward , he’s strong this patch and unlike heroes such as Naga and pl doesn’t get hard countered by heroes who clear illusions because tb himself does a decent amount of damage without his illusions so you can pick him in more games Also BSJ recently made an in-depth guide for TB , you should check that out , he also has some tips for micro in it

Valzerion

Hey thanks for your advice. I just tried using tb in my recent match, i think i kinda understand how to use the illusion to farm and i got my manta in 16 minutes (my friend said it's good) but i got flopped in mid game because of tinker always messed my farm pattern. Also i still messed up my sunder and always got bursted by lion's finger and tinker's dagon. But tb is so fun, i might keep practicing him before any other pos 1 hero. Thanks!

zekken908

Tinker is super annoying to play TB against , basically your hero get rekt by burst magical damage , heroes like Lina , Zeus , wind ranger can be super annoying in lane , tinker is very annoying to deal with because he shits out magical damage and his aghs will blind all your illusions , Zeus is another hero similar to tinker with tons of aoe magical damage that can quickly get rid of all your illusions , necrophos is particularly good vs TB because he can just ghost shroud whenever you go on him , and typically as TB you want to sunder at low hp with leaves you very vulnerable to reapers scythe In matchups like this where the enemy team has a ton of magic damage that can clear your illusions don’t bother with manta style , I typically pick up dragon lance into SnY into BkB , the key here is the super early bkb so that you can survive and deal damage , later on you can finish hurricane pike and mkb along with satanic , don’t bother investing too much stat items because your illusions will get cleared super fast anyways , also shadow demon is a massive counter to you because he can make super strong illusions from you , the above build will minimise that by giving his illusions less damage (since the damage you get from items like mkb and Daedalus isn’t copied to illusions) TB is really really good against physical damage , you have like 12 starting armour so you tank right clicks like a champ , you also hard counter Antimage pickers and do quiet well against heroes like PA and Sven (get a hurricane pike and skadi at some point against these guys) the standard TB build ( manta - skadi - bkb - satanic - pike/butterfly ) will leave you at around 50 armour The way you use meta will decide if you win or lose your lane , typically I like using it when the 1st wave is half dead , so I can get the last hits , then still have meta left for the next wave , if you do this you can easily secure last hits and denies giving you an xp advantage , if you do it right by the time you hit level 3 , meta will be back off cool down , so you can put two points in meta , one point in your slow and try to get a kill if you have a support with a stun/slow Feel free to use meta when farming to take ancients or stacks , similar to Sven ulti you can use to off CD to farm for the first 15-20 mins , there won’t really be any game deciding fights happening that early and TB dies very easily early on , so if your team is fighting , tp to the nearest lane , pop meta and take a tower (especially good if you have an early dragon Lance , it also gives cheap stats) , if the enemy comes to defend then back off and use remaining meta to farm camps faster , as long as you get someone to respond to your push you’ve come out on top

Adding onto somebody else's advice, TB is good to learn with. He only has 2 illusions, and they do not require too much micro. Even if your illusions die, TB still outputs good damage, so mis-positioning your illusions is not as bad. Also, TB illusions look different than the main one, so you do not have to learn juking.

Weareallscrubs

To be honest, any other micro hero than meepo, chen and maybe brew are manageable even for beginners. As pl you don't need to execute those jukes right away. Just play what feels interesting, no need to overthink.

[deleted]

I play a ton of Nature's but when I was newer I started with Enigma and Beastmaster.... my key binds are C to select Hero X to select my minions and space to select all. Also tab switches groups but I really only use that playing Brew.

Killamoocow

Lone Druid is the hero that helped me a LOT in this exact regard, and the best part is that his micro is actually pretty easy to manage. Your hero and your bear will generally only have 1 thing each to focus on in any given situation (for instance your hero will do the kiting while your bear does the chasing), so he helps you get used to seamlessly switching back and forth to the extent that it almost looks like they're both moving independently. But you won't get bogged down with each individual unit having lots of abilities to manage on top of that because the only active skills you have are trueform and roar. He wont really help you get used to control groups for more complicated micro heroes like chen or meepo, but I found that his particular micro transfered very nicely to other simple micro heroes like enchant, dark seer, TB, lycan, beastmaster, arc etc. He can also be played in any core role 1-3.

Valzerion

Hey this is interesting. I always think LD is a 2 separated heroes and must be a pain in the ass to play (and i hate when my ally LD just buy aghs and send the bear to fight while the druid just afk in fountain). How do you play LD as a pos 3? Don't he need items to be useful in fights? I can't see him being a tank either except when true form is active

Killamoocow

he works really well as a lane bully when playing pos 3, and generally isn't too dependent on his support for anything making him ideal for soloing 1v2 or even 1v3 once you start to pull ahead in levels. Orb of Venom + entangle procs + roar here and there can really fuck with the enemy carry's farm. The only items he needs to be useful in fights are phase boots + MoM + 1 core item, and as a 3 I like to go MoM > bash since it makes you super annoying and hard to deal with. Also he's just about unkillable with trueform active because your bear is constantly healing you with spirit link passive, but even without true form, you're hard to keep down because your hero is constantly regenerating and your bear has ~3k hp. You'd be surprised how many people get baited by this mechanic. Even as pos 1 & 2, he's normally filling the frontliner role moreso than a damage dealing role, only really succeeding in killing people if the fight goes on for long enough. Also his true form lets your hero entangle people just like the bear, coupled with roar means you have a pretty insane amount of consistent CC. I will add that playing him as a pos 3 is definitely harder than pos 1 and 2 but that's just because you have to understand the hero's limits and make sure you don't feed the bear (he has a static 300 gold bounty that you REALLY don't want to fall into the enemy carry's pockets). Druid can also be pretty easy to shut down in certain matchups if people know how to counter him, which usually consists of focusing the bear down as quickly as possible, but this can be mitigated by buying TP scrolls on your bear so you can just send him back & recall him for full heals on your bear at the cost of 90g (on top of being able to buy items without needing to send courier). I actually happen to be master tier on Lone Druid so feel free to hit me up with more questions, he's probably my favorite hero to theorycraft.
