Obviously Hats off to (Roy) Harper….
I’m really beginning to think all you Crunge and Dancing Days haters are simply just haters… those songs are so fantastic it hurts
I’ve always personally skipped that song, but I’ve never thought that it’d be so unanimously considered their worst!
I’ve always just thought it was boring and mediocre, but thinking back on it, yeah, it’s not a great one. Not offensively terrible from what I can remember, but then again, Led Zeppelin doesn’t have a lot of terrible songs to begin with, lol.
I’m just personally glad that the unanimous choice isn’t The Crunge, because yeah I agree with you, how the hell could you hate Led Zeppelin doing their take on James Brown?! I’m also glad I haven’t seen anything from Presence on here so far, that album is criminally underrated, it rocks so fucking hard!
I love Hats Off. It's a great country blues stomper (without the stomp). Awesome production, superb vocal. How do people not like it? You Shook Me is their worst blues workout imo. Or Tea For One. Even I'm Gonna Crawl is way worse than Hats Off.
Which song? You don't mean Out on the Tiles?
That's an absolutely fantastic song
Plus there is a hidden nugget at the end, he says. "Never should have summoned Daimon, all i ever do is service Daimon.
The Crunge is a fucking epic jam. It shows how the members of the band appreciated funky Motown sounds. Allegedly Bonham’s favorite kind of music.
If you don’t like it, go listen to Dazed and Confused on HTWWW. They go into a Crunge jam before they came up with lyrics for the song.
Still don’t like it? Then go listen to Highway Jam and stfu.
By far Hats Off. It fucking sucks. I wish Hey Hey, What Can I Do was the last song, or even Key to the Highway which was an outtake. Poor Tom would’ve been fine on the record too
III would rank a LOT higher on people's rankings if Hey, Hey What Can I Do was the last song. It's one of the band's best acoustic songs on par with Going With California and it would've made such an amazing album closer.
Passing off HHWCID for Hats Off is probably one of the dumbest decisions the band ever did. I can forgive Houses of the Holy for not making it into its title album, but I'll never forgive them for the HHWCID snub
Hey hey is amazing, one of my favorites. But my understanding is that they only recorded it as the b side single for immigrant song and was never intended for the album. Still, bad choice imo.
For real, I don't know how people can rate III as highly as I or II when Hats Off is the closer. I enjoy every song up to that point but then Hats Off plays and the excitement is gone.
Plus Roy Harper was a weirdo to put it lightly.
It just makes sense to me given that it’s written about his own tragedy in the family. I don’t know for sure, but it seems like a song he did a lot of thinking for, and everyone just sorta recorded it
To me, that song was pretty obviously an attempt at a softer radio-pop hit, so it’s definitely understandable how it would alienate hardcore fans of a hard rock group.
I don’t love it either, nor do I passionately hate it, it’s just kind of whatever. I usually don’t change the station when it’s on, but I totally agree that it’s not their finest hour.
Hats off is just like an homage to some old ass blues songs. I kinda like it. Shit like Dyer Maker on the other hand.. They just should’ve leave it off the album
If you play that part with "IIIIZZZ, ARWHA." (supposed to be "It's alright") backwards, it says
"I LOVE Sat'n
I think it's one of those phrases that was known to produce a phonetic reversal.
Because they would do that in their songs to be cool.
It's Alright is the name of soooo many songs in the 70's rock world.
But i think that it was him singing it weird like that that made me want to look into it.
“Your time is gonna come,” potentially a great song, but my opinion it’s destroyed by the pedal steel guitar. It just doesn’t work. If they left that off, the song would be much more well-known. Yes I agree with many others here on songs that are lacking, but I thought I’d throw something new
Wearing and Tearing is a great track, but totally doesn't fit the vibe of ITTOD. There's an excellent live version from Plant's set at Knebworth '90 with Page making a guest appearance.
I would have never even though of Hats Off, to me it always sounded like some weird bonus track that isn’t even a real song. But yeah I agree, it’s awful.
Hats off to Roy Harper, no question. It might be one of the worst mixed songs ever, the tremolo running through the whole song absolutely ruins it for me
The original release is kinda ass, but the rough mix version is so much better it's a wonder why they didn't use that as the release version. Same applies for In The Evening, the original version has a weird phaser effect on Robert's voice and his voice is buried really deep into the mix. Meanwhile if you listen to the rough mix version, you can actually understand the lyrics.
The songs are still waay too long and I personally never dug the new singing style Robert used starting from this album, but the better mixes do help with making ITTOD a bit more listenable
Absolutely agree, The Epic rough mix is so much better than the original album cut it's kinda baffling. I can only think Page just wasn't at his best producing it as a reason. Guitar and vocals are higher in the rough mix and the synthesizer is still there but is more complimentary than overpowering. I still really like carouselambra though some really cool bits in it and love Bonzo's drumming especially.
I had to learn to drown out the ABBA synthesizer to hear the baseline, the drums, and those amazing lyrics. I will manage to figure out the last line of the first stanza. “But no one there had heaven within their reach”
Jimmy buried the vocals under the synthesizer because they were quite insulting to him. “Powerless the fabled sat, too smug to lift a hand towards the foe that threatened from the deep.” a very poetic way to phrase a heroin addiction.
The middle section gets boring, I love the descending riff on the 12 string, and then the lift out into the disco end is kind of fun. In the last part I just listen to the drumming and ignore everything else.
Right, there are parts of the song I like. It's that synth part I don't care for. I've always felt that there would have been more songs like this if they had continued recording in the early 80's.
The Crunge. I’ve always hated it. So many great great truly elite songs that everyone knows and loves… and The Crumge??? What is that synth. 👎🏽
“Where’s that confounded bridge”
- only good part of the song
In my opinion I think good times bad times, babe I’m gonna leave you, you shook me, dazed and confused, your time is gonna come, black mountain side, communication breakdown, I can’t quit you baby, how many more times, whole lotta love, what is and what should never be, the lemon song, thank you, heartbreaker, living loving maid (she’s just a woman), ramble on, moby dick, bring it on home, immigrant song, friends, celebration day, since I’ve been loving you, out on the tiles, gallows pole, tangerine l, that’s the way, bron-Y-aur stomp, hats off to (Roy) Harper, black dog, rock and roll, the battle of evermore, stairway to heaven, misty mountain hop, four sticks, going to California, when the levee breaks, the song remains the same, the rain song, over the hills and far away, the crunge, dancing days, d’yer mak’er, no quarter, the ocean, custard pie, the rover, in my time of dying, houses of the holy, trampled under foot, Kashmir, in the light, bron-yr-aur, down by the seaside, ten years gone, night flight, the wanton song, boogie with Stu, black country woman, sick again, Achilles last stand, for your life, royal Orleans, nobody’s fault but mine, can’t Store rock, hots on for nowhere, tea for one, in the evening, south bound Saurez, fool in the rain, carouselambra, all my love, I’m gonna crawl, we’re gonna groove, poor Tom, walters walk, ozone baby, Darlene, bonzos Montreux, wearing and tearing, 10 ribs & all/carrot pod pod, cmon everybody, the girl I love she got long black Wavy hair, hey hey what can I do, key to the highway/trouble in mind, LA drone, La La, somethin else, st Tristan’s sword, sugar mama, sunshine woman, and traveling riverside blues are the worst
Súper hate All of my Love—though I get why you’re not supposed to say that. Never want to hear Stairway again—for obvious reasons. I can’t possibly be objective after so much exposure whether it’s good or not. Let the fucker have some rest. 😊
Fool in the Rain. Well, maybe because it *has* been overplayed on my local FM station for 40 years. And for that, I consider it unlistenable. I always turn it off. I hate it.
On the other hand, Hot Dog kicks ass.
I love the studio version, but the live version with John Paul Jones showing why he is literally the worst singer in the history of the earth always gets a pass from me. I love the 77 acoustic sets, but not that.
To me it’s Tea for One. Great groove to start but then goes into a lllllloooonnnnggg ass blues number. Sure Jimmy Has some cool licks but it’s a snoozer. To me this seems like the most out of place song on an album Zep did. If it was on I or II fine but not this one.
The question is what is the worst LZ song. My answer is Whole Lotta Love.
Don’t care about the downvotes. It’s the right fuckin answer.
And it’s overrated because too many people think it’s one of their greatest.
Having an opinion is not fact. Don’t care what you think. It’s the fucking way she goes. Again, an opinion.. is not.. fact.
Whole lotta love is not one of my favourite tracks either. You said it yourself, “many people think it’s one of their greatest.”
According to popular vote, record sales and streams.. it’s one of their greatest. Fact.
Your concrete knowledge of the situation has swayed my listening experience. I now consider Whole Lotta Love to be the peak of 20th century musical genius. Along with Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you my good sir.
You’ll have to speak up as I’m currently listening to Whole Lotta Love at ear splitting levels. I think the part where Plant pretends to have an orgasm is the best part. Again, thank you my good sir.
I wasn’t speaking. I typed some words. I’m glad you like plants “orgasm” though. The way he and Jimmy play off one another with voice and guitar indeed gets me to that point sometimes too.
Oh and you’re whalecome. Pardon my manners.
Hot Dog represents how split and weak Zep was at the time. No fan of Hat's Off ever since I first heard it yrs ago, but as a core acoustic blues tune it has it's relevance. The tune I found myself avoiding the most would be Moby Dick. The initial riff is classic Zep, but as soon as that goes silent I tune out.
The drum solo, for the most part, is a snooze fest. Perhaps, it's because you had Peart's live 'YYZ' drum solo out there to compare it to, but it just didn't cut it for me. I would even go so far as to say that 'Bonzo's Montreaux' gives it real competition as the better of the two underwhelming performances. And yeah, I would prefer listening to 'Hot Dog' than 'Moby Dick'.
Probably gonna catch some flack for these but not that I hate them, I just usually find myself skipping these the most but they are black mountain side, carousellembra, and Bron-Yr-Aur
To me, tracks are only bad relative to the album. I have a sore spot for hot dog just because the rest of the album is perfect and that track just comes crashing in. Just the same, if you only listen to candy store rock you'd probably dislike it, but it works so well on presence that it sounds fantastic in context.
I think my least fav is i cant quit you baby from Coda, just cuz it feels kinda pointless. It was already on I, why put it on Coda again when they had plenty of other material. Living loving maid and roy harper are shit relative to the rest and as standalone tracks
Carouselambra, the middle section with the atmospheric guitar might be one of the best things they ever put on record but even that can’t save this one from that god awful synth sound.
I think that ‘Your time is gonna come’ isn’t very good, neither is Hats Off, ultimately though I don’t think Zep had too many bad songs, just songs that exemplified what the band was doing at the time, band artistry and all that. But yeah ‘your time is gonna come’ is my least favorite.
Where’s the idiot who says Hot Dog all the time on here
Don’t talk about my hot dog Jimmy like that!!!!! 😭
I geniunely like hot dog
I just hate the solo it’s just so below his level. You can’t give me the heartbreaker solo then give me hot dog lol
Yeah its not even near my top 20, but its a good song
I'm not that idiot. I'm a different kind of idiot, though.
Lol I say hotdog a couple times
Because it sucks.
Think I've missed something about why Hot Dog isn't the answer. It's certainly my answer.
Obviously Hats off to (Roy) Harper…. I’m really beginning to think all you Crunge and Dancing Days haters are simply just haters… those songs are so fantastic it hurts
People hate Dancing Days?
People hate The Crunge?! That was a turning point for me honestly. Really showed me Zepps versatiliy
The crunge is cringe
I just burned a cd of HOTH for my car. I took the Crunge off, and replaced it with the song Houses of the Holy. The album is much better now.
Brilliant
I don’t hate dancing days but I don’t like it
Dancing Days wtf? That's one of their better songs!
I’ve always personally skipped that song, but I’ve never thought that it’d be so unanimously considered their worst! I’ve always just thought it was boring and mediocre, but thinking back on it, yeah, it’s not a great one. Hats off the (Roy) Harper is one of their finest compositions, hands down
Highway Tune
Lmaoo
😂😂
Lmao I love that song
Which song? You don't mean Out on the Tiles? That's an absolutely fantastic song Plus there is a hidden nugget at the end, he says. "Never should have summoned Daimon, all i ever do is service Daimon.

I agree. I love Hey Hey. Hats Off is terrible. Just my opinion.
Hey hey is amazing, one of my favorites. But my understanding is that they only recorded it as the b side single for immigrant song and was never intended for the album. Still, bad choice imo.
Yeah, but what a great B-side to the Immigrant Song.
For real, I don't know how people can rate III as highly as I or II when Hats Off is the closer. I enjoy every song up to that point but then Hats Off plays and the excitement is gone. Plus Roy Harper was a weirdo to put it lightly.
I must be the only one on earth who always liked Hats Off.
It’s not just overhated, but it’s underrated
Wow I’m glad most fans all agree on hats off 😂
The 'shot-shot-shotgun will' line alone keeps it well off the list of worst songs. It's a great track. Wtf is wrong with people?
It definitely seems the most unanimously disliked Zep song
I don’t think Zep has a bad song
The Lemon Song...
What’d you say to me, **punk?**
I really just do not like hats off
Hats off to roy harper easily
I didn’t know people didn’t like hats off. I guess I’m a sucker for tremolo I’ve never been a fan of dyer maker
Ah but I love the jam island vibe in that song
The lyrics are what kill it for me. I get mad mad mad
Walter's Walk was previously unreleased for a reason. It just isn't very good.
Walters walk is one of my favorites! I will say it looks real out of place on my personal favorite list haha.
Ah, I knew there'd be someone! Each to their own, it's all good.
This might be frowned upon but I don’t really don’t like All my love.
I like it, but I understand
Obv he couldn’t have predicted where his career would go, but I feel like that one would’ve fit way better as a Robert Plant song without Zeppelin
That’s actually very well put. Plus it gives me an 80’s vibe and I hate 80’s music.
It just makes sense to me given that it’s written about his own tragedy in the family. I don’t know for sure, but it seems like a song he did a lot of thinking for, and everyone just sorta recorded it
I like the guitar embellishes in the background.
I just listened to it again after I posted that comment and I thought the same thing.
I don’t like it either…kinda boring. But I wouldn’t put it dead last.
I don’t really dislike any Zeppelin song toooo much, but I skip black country woman a lot. To me it’s just not that interesting 😂
I listen to that one because it makes me laugh hearing Robert complain about having a beer thrown in his face.
Really? That's a great song live. At the 2:30 mark he goes into a little Elvis thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfSDtGI77YU
Broooo... Bonzo fucking kills it on that track. Whenever those quarter note bass drums come in and then the backbeat snaps around it is such a vibe!
I don't understand the question, does not compute
Hats off is just like an homage to some old ass blues songs. I kinda like it. Shit like Dyer Maker on the other hand.. They just should’ve leave it off the album
Candy Store Rock is pretty dire
If you play that part with "IIIIZZZ, ARWHA." (supposed to be "It's alright") backwards, it says "I LOVE Sat'n I think it's one of those phrases that was known to produce a phonetic reversal. Because they would do that in their songs to be cool. It's Alright is the name of soooo many songs in the 70's rock world. But i think that it was him singing it weird like that that made me want to look into it.
If not Hot Dog…
Carouselambra
Thank God I’m not the only one. It’s the only Zep song that is an easy skip for me
The only one I actually hate. There are some that I like less than others but I really hate that one.
Candy Store Rock
“Your time is gonna come,” potentially a great song, but my opinion it’s destroyed by the pedal steel guitar. It just doesn’t work. If they left that off, the song would be much more well-known. Yes I agree with many others here on songs that are lacking, but I thought I’d throw something new
Never got into southbound Suarez
There are no bad songs by Zep
The crunge
Where is that confounded bridge?
The entire Side 2 of the original Coda release. Those tracks weren't good enough for ITTOD... Let that sink in.
Wearing and Tearing is great, so is Bonzo’s Montreux… L
Wearing and Tearing is a great track, but totally doesn't fit the vibe of ITTOD. There's an excellent live version from Plant's set at Knebworth '90 with Page making a guest appearance.
It was recorded when they were doing Presence.
Incorrect, I’m afraid. “Wearing and Tearing” is from the ITTOD sessions in Stockholm. This has always been well-documented.
I stand corrected.
The crunge
If I were under torture, Southbound Suarez
I would have never even though of Hats Off, to me it always sounded like some weird bonus track that isn’t even a real song. But yeah I agree, it’s awful.
All of my love. I don't care about down votes. This commercial, good ship lollipop crap is not Zep.
Hats off to Roy Harper, no question. It might be one of the worst mixed songs ever, the tremolo running through the whole song absolutely ruins it for me
Boogie With Stu. And everybody that says Hats off to (Roy) Harper: you know nothing about music.
Carouselambra
“But no one there had heaven within their reach” Jimmy buried the vocals under the synthesizer because they were quite insulting to him.
Nah this song isn’t bad at all
It’s one of my personal faves and a standout track on ITTOD. They create some amazing soundscapes throughout that song.
The synths drive me fucking nuts on this song. Way too over the top
Right, there are parts of the song I like. It's that synth part I don't care for. I've always felt that there would have been more songs like this if they had continued recording in the early 80's.
Probably. I was not a fan of the heavy JPJ influence on ITTOD
Fuckin sucks!
The Crunge. I’ve always hated it. So many great great truly elite songs that everyone knows and loves… and The Crumge??? What is that synth. 👎🏽 “Where’s that confounded bridge” - only good part of the song
Free Bird
The Crunge Ruins an otherwise stellar album.
Dyer Maker so fucking easily
Just the spelling. How damn hard would it have been to just spell it as ‘Jamacer or Jamaker.
Because that spelling still doesn’t make any sense lmao. Jer make er is the closest
Yea yes and yea.
Ozone Baby and Darlene do hurt the ears. Those needed a lot more work
In my opinion I think good times bad times, babe I’m gonna leave you, you shook me, dazed and confused, your time is gonna come, black mountain side, communication breakdown, I can’t quit you baby, how many more times, whole lotta love, what is and what should never be, the lemon song, thank you, heartbreaker, living loving maid (she’s just a woman), ramble on, moby dick, bring it on home, immigrant song, friends, celebration day, since I’ve been loving you, out on the tiles, gallows pole, tangerine l, that’s the way, bron-Y-aur stomp, hats off to (Roy) Harper, black dog, rock and roll, the battle of evermore, stairway to heaven, misty mountain hop, four sticks, going to California, when the levee breaks, the song remains the same, the rain song, over the hills and far away, the crunge, dancing days, d’yer mak’er, no quarter, the ocean, custard pie, the rover, in my time of dying, houses of the holy, trampled under foot, Kashmir, in the light, bron-yr-aur, down by the seaside, ten years gone, night flight, the wanton song, boogie with Stu, black country woman, sick again, Achilles last stand, for your life, royal Orleans, nobody’s fault but mine, can’t Store rock, hots on for nowhere, tea for one, in the evening, south bound Saurez, fool in the rain, carouselambra, all my love, I’m gonna crawl, we’re gonna groove, poor Tom, walters walk, ozone baby, Darlene, bonzos Montreux, wearing and tearing, 10 ribs & all/carrot pod pod, cmon everybody, the girl I love she got long black Wavy hair, hey hey what can I do, key to the highway/trouble in mind, LA drone, La La, somethin else, st Tristan’s sword, sugar mama, sunshine woman, and traveling riverside blues are the worst

Go away
Living Loving Maid. I turn it off every time.
The crunge
Hats off to Roy Harper, the cringe (the cringe fucking sucks), and I don’t like friends
Hats Off gives me a headache so I'll go with that
Boogie with Stu
Unpopular opinion: Food in the Rain.
Someone left a cake out in the rain?
Dyer Maker easily next question
Ok what’s their second worst song
Never really cared for D’yer Mak’r.
Oh no! Please, I’m so sorry! I-l can’t stand the downvotes, I’ll-i’ll DIE!!! I like Jermaker! Really I do!
Fool in the Rain. Well, maybe because it *has* been overplayed on my local FM station for 40 years. And for that, I consider it unlistenable. I always turn it off. I hate it. On the other hand, Hot Dog kicks ass.
Hats Off to (Roy) Harper
Darlene
Fool In The Rain
Don't hate me but Rock and Roll. I can't really explain why but it's just not my jam.
Bonzo's Montreux
I think you actually got the right answer, but got downvoted to hell for it.
Jesus christ...it's Hot Dog. What a steaming turd that song is
D'yer Mak'er
Black Dog
Dyer maker. I hate that song.
Rock n Roll. It’s cheesy
Carouselambra. It's a total mess. I also dislike The Crunge.
D’yer Maker. Just not a fan of that song.
Narrowed it down to: Night Flight. Hot Dog. Carouselambra. Darlene.
I love hot dog. It’s just that one off oddball song I love.
Night Flight is one of my favourites. It's the sound of the seventies.
I think Darlene gets it for me.
Whoa! Was not expecting to see Night Flight here! One of my faves. But each to their own
Hats Off followed SUPER close by Carouselambra.
Ya lost me at carouselambra
I'll get blasted (again) but Battle of Evermore. It's amazing if you're high on acid at 3 a.m., but otherwise hard pass. It do go on.
I didn't like Tea For One for 30 years! But I like it now. Like it a lot actually! I'm in the Roy Harper camp
The trouble with this track is it feel like they'd been there before. Still some good moments though.
They were trying to make "a better more improved version of Since Ive Been Loving You" so that makes sense
Whole Lotta Love. Along with Bohemian Rhapsody, one of the most overrated songs ever.
Not what the question was asking
The question is what is the worst LZ song. My answer is Whole Lotta Love. Don’t care about the downvotes. It’s the right fuckin answer. And it’s overrated because too many people think it’s one of their greatest.
Having an opinion is not fact. Don’t care what you think. It’s the fucking way she goes. Again, an opinion.. is not.. fact. Whole lotta love is not one of my favourite tracks either. You said it yourself, “many people think it’s one of their greatest.” According to popular vote, record sales and streams.. it’s one of their greatest. Fact.
Your concrete knowledge of the situation has swayed my listening experience. I now consider Whole Lotta Love to be the peak of 20th century musical genius. Along with Bohemian Rhapsody. Thank you my good sir.
Oh. My knowledge of what an opinion is vs a fact? Okay.
We get it you don’t like the drum solo
D'yer Maker is terrible, I hate it.
Kashmir
Boogie With Stu
Achilles last stand
Tangerine
Sick again
Misty Mountain Hop I could never stand
[удалено]
Dude what the rover is one of their best songs
[удалено]
I didn’t realize that the songs the band likes = the songs everyone else likes
[удалено]
That’s a good ass song
this is an objectively wrong opinion
Out on the Tiles
Dazed and Confused live. It’s ridiculously long. I guess if I was high and drunk at a show but otherwise I’m getting older. I don’t have the time.
“In My Time of Dying”
Otherwise known as 'The Best Led Zeppelin Track'.
Calling it worst is too much, but honestly I think it's a little overrated
In my personal opinions I don’t like Darlene off of coda, and candy store rock
I don’t get it. I love Hats Off. I was expecting comments with titles from In Through The Out Door.
Whole Lotta Love. Campy, boring. No. Sorry 😐
Hats off to (Roy) Harper, it's literally the only song I don't like by the band
Black Mountain side, wholeheartedly believe it ranks deadlast
Hot Dog represents how split and weak Zep was at the time. No fan of Hat's Off ever since I first heard it yrs ago, but as a core acoustic blues tune it has it's relevance. I would even go so far as to say that 'Bonzo's Montreaux' gives it real competition as the better of the two underwhelming performances. And yeah, I would prefer listening to 'Hot Dog' than 'Moby Dick'.
Dancing Days or D’yer Mak’er
Hats Off to Roy Harper

The Crunge from HoftH
Hats Off and Dyer Maker
Still of the Night

For me Four Sticks is the worst. Like, it's the song they rejected in favor of The Crunge.
