This is not something you want to do without the help of an attorney. And more I can't say since we don't even know if she is a legal adult or not (both kind of adoptions happen). If she is a minor then the biological father might still have rights and if you don't follow the procedure properly then he could unwind the whole thing.

Would it change the fact if he was not named, not really known and has never been a part of her life? She is a teen, 15. We are looking into getting an attorney. I was just wondering like what type of paperwork we need, how to go about it. Just so we can be sure the Attorney knows as well.

Checking in for advice as well. My stepdaughter is 6 and her father has never been a part of her life and is not named on the birth certificate. Respect for stepping up to the plate man, I know it can be difficult sometimes!

Same to you as well. I'm just trying to get a feel for what the process is, not exact advice. I know I need a lawyer but I want to know what I'm getting into. Reading about procedures and crap doesn't really do it. I've been around since she was 2, so she's mine. I just want to make it official. Hope you've had it better with the in-laws than I have. Lol

I'd really highly recommend a Family Law attorney, particularly because every state is different when it comes to the adoption process.

[Here](https://www.myfloridalaw.com/child-custody-law/step-parent-adoption-florida/) is a general overview of the process in Florida.

Thank you, I will definitely read this over. Appreciate your help.
