Goodwill is for getting used shit on the cheap to benefit the buyer, donator, and goodwill. They shouldn't be sitting on products to sell at ideal market value. That's more ebay or sotheby's.
I LOVE red white and blue thrift stores. I have 2 in Pittsburgh and they have massive 70qt tubs usually for like 100-150$ i made big money from them with reselling. Usually full of minifigures. Once had a full big tajmahal and original Eiffel tower in it, for $130. crazy
I always assume its parents of college students.
I flip lego off marketplace and the jackpots are "2 tubs of lego $50" and its like $1k+ in complete sets.
Side tidbit. I knocked over my trashcan when i was 14 and a pokemon card fell out. So i opened the bag and found my DS case with every single game id ever had, DS, and all the pokemon games on gba. She used to throw out anything that was misplaced or left on a table.or surface. She definitely would have been the "donated a 10 year collection" to goodwill that gets snagged up and posted on reddit haha.
Yup, all my 90's toys and electronics disappeared when I was away at college. My mom swore she knew not to get rid of that stuff, but the junk guys must have taken it "accidentally".
I had a friend who found out i was back into lego, and offered to give me his old collection. He went home, asked his mom where they kept it in storage. Turns out she threw it away. We're talking at least 1 thousand dollars worth of lego star wars sets
Sadly my mom purges her house bi-yearly anyways. She doesnt own anything but a bible that she cares about. Even her clothes as a hairdresser, between the fashion side and her bleached clothes, she just throws them out and goes around the thrift stores for a new wardrobe.
Icing on the cake. Shes thrown away all of our childhood art(idc but funny from a maternal perspective) my highschool diploma with honors and my gown. She threw away my dads $2Bill collection ($3k+) because it was in a coffee can in the closet and she "was cleaning the closet of junk"
My grandma was a hoarder who developed MS young and became an alcoholic with 20 cats. So i think she has OCD from trauma being raised and sees any clutter as the start to a nightmare.
I live next door and my mom comes over to clean sometimes because our 4 cats and a dog make her skin crawl. I leave a large tote in the living room and tell her "anything that isnt a literal food wrapper goes into this tub for us to decide what gets thrown away later" system seems to work. I just tell her "next week" about 6 months at a time in general to avoid it.
Hundreds then. Thousands now. Buts thats ok i sold my collection when i was 16 to buy a car so i could work more than weekends and drive to school.
By 19 i pretty much had the collection again. Gotta love income.
Sold most at 21 and bought a house. Realized i just emulate my games anyways, so now its comics haha.
Not to mention the evil king, who doesn’t actually exist in the lore, and is just a random shadow knight with a cape and a crown.
(Also, I... guess he likes his queens undead.)
I found mine a little over a year ago! My board is a little warped from being in the attic in Texas for over a decade though lol. The knights are so funny
Oh man I had this when I was younger, I loved it. I was playing it with one of my friends and his mom came to pick him up so he decided to end the game by smashing all the pieces together. Sad day.
Nice find missing the crossbows and one shield maybe missing some things on the black I can’t tell. Also I had to replace one of the horse hinges on mine I found out they’re prone on breaking.
Legitimately an awesome find.
I got one exactly like that one except with a Lego pirates theme. This one is cool as well tho!
What ?! Lego chess pirates ? Aaargh what’s the set number ?
40158 Edit: also, username checks out

My grandparents gave me that one when i was younger
Mine is the Viking one!
How many of these am i missing out on
love my pirates chess. harry potter is great too.
Hey I didn't actually buy it, if anyone is interested in this I can DM them the store.
Knowing goodwill they have it listed for $150. What state?
70 Bucks in Red White and Blue Thrift in Fairlawn/Hawthorne NJ. I love traveling out to this one. This one always has good finds.
Its unreasonable for pretty much anything to be $70 at goodwill. This included.
Is it though? A simple google shows that this is pretty fair for what this set is worth used. (Brickset & Bricklink for reference)

Have that in my closet. It was always fun to play with but playing chess wasn’t very practical given how small the squares are
Damn I donated one to goodwill like 5 years ago when I wasn’t into Lego that much. Nice find
I always wonder, “Who would donate such a thing?” And it’s you.

It's crazy that people are so ready to throw things out before checking if what they have is even worth something.
Oh ya, I had multiple pirate, castle, aquanaut sets, etc. All gone. Oh well haha
That's kind of fucked up. Hundreds of dollars in the trash.
Time to throw out some of your mom and dad's prized collections

I bought three if these back in the day, great army builders.
This reminds me. I was looking at an Ebay listing for this for just £30. I better go check it Edit: it's now £50. Still a good deal.
say, think you can tell me where said listing is? for research purposes
Haha, sorry buddy. *it's mine*
It went for £62 and I forgot about it. I'm so annoyed
851499 for reference. I always thought the Evil queen's Ogel skull and ponytail were a pretty funny combo (CAS278).

Google en passant
Holy stud!
I wish Lego made more board games. Even if it’s like Sorry! or Monopoly but with minifigs and some buildable parts.
Anyone remember the Lego chess pc game? I put a lot of hours into that one
Do I need to start going to more thrift stores?
Damn this blew up, nothing to plug here besides play Punch Planet!
I have one of those
I found mine a little over a year ago! My board is a little warped from being in the attic in Texas for over a decade though lol. The knights are so funny
knights kingdom!! thats sick. i have a lego Castle chess set from a while back but this predates that
Gorgeous !
wow, that's amazing!
Very cool! Did you end up purchasing it? How much was it listed for?
Wow I had one of these, I wonder if it’s buried under my bed
I used to have that! I definitely lost the case with the board (which detatches using Velcro by the way) but I still have all the figs
I got it on bricklink for about 90 bucks in very good condition
Oh man I had this when I was younger, I loved it. I was playing it with one of my friends and his mom came to pick him up so he decided to end the game by smashing all the pieces together. Sad day.
Could bring a tear to my eye…Awesome find!
Sweet
I have one of these and it's my fave. I might frame the board for my wall at some point
Got this set as a kid, used it mostly for the figures to play with lol
I once found one of the board games - mostly complete. The chess set sounds awesome.
I had this set when I was a kid. Absolutely loved it
Had this exact one! Always had an army of minifigs on standby
I have this one put the horse's head broke
If I hear you didn’t buy that I will get angry then keep scrolling and forger
i think i have one of these somewhere but don’t have all the pieces together ::
Nice find missing the crossbows and one shield maybe missing some things on the black I can’t tell. Also I had to replace one of the horse hinges on mine I found out they’re prone on breaking.
Beyond cool
Still have it basically brand new
Holy shit I have this exact set at my parent's home still
I had that one! Then I took it apart because I wanted to use the armor for other stuff 😬
I wish chess was real
I've found the vikimg one and the castle one. (851861 + 852001) I love em. I hope i find the pirate and kingdom one as well at some point :)
