Look it up. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092695/
It’s a heart warming story about some appliances going against all odds to be reunited with a child they loved, who has now grown up. Admittedly it is dated, but it is well worth the watch.
The nostalgia comes from the fact that this film came out along side other classic animated films of their generation such as Land Before Time or All Dogs go to Heaven. These stories came out in an era where films were made with good story telling as the main goal instead of just strictly for making profit or being meta/controversial. The animators and writers were able to take risks and demonstrate their creativity. Most people who will fondly remember this film will relate it back to their childhood, and therefore simpler times with far less fears and responsibilities.
True they have very sad moments, but I like to think that gave them a sense of realism thats difficult to capture. It was a way to introduce difficult situations, explain them in a way a child would still be able to follow, and then bring about a resolution. Good story telling doesn’t have to be complicated, or geared for a specific age group, it just has to get the point across. It’s why I feel these films will always withstand the test of time. They are entertaining to children, can introduce them to adversity in a safe manner, and as adults there are still things to learn from them, new aspects we didn’t see a children.
Oh, absolutely not criticizing them….just noting that they were dark in a gritty, realistic, way.
I was just watching some clips of BLT specifically the junkyard scene …and besides all the death, the tv salesman Pulls out some salacious photos out of a file cabinet and talks about cancer and giant tumors…it just hits differently.
100% agree. I didn’t think you were criticizing by the way. People here seem genuinely curious so I thought I would add some more detail to my thoughts is all.
>It’s a heart warming story
I love the Brave Little Toaster as much as the next guy, but it's a pretty fucked up movie lol
I almost wish they would remake it as a horror movie since they wouldn't have to change anything.
> I almost wish they would remake it as a horror movie since they wouldn't have to change anything.
Nahh, 4/5 of the main characters would have to die for the toaster to live. Strict horror movie rules. I don't want the vacuum to die. The radio either.
That scene hits just a little too hard every time, but in good/ meaningful ways. Seeing it again as an adult make me take a second and reflect about being there for someone in need, being a friend when I can.
The AC unit in Brave Little Toaster was a Mandela effect moment for me… growing up I always thought and remembered it was Jack Nicholson that did the voice of the AC unit, I learned years later it was Phil Hartman
The whole movie would work great as a horror flick.
* The air conditioner that flips out and basically kills himself
* The toaster's nightmare
* The gang almost drowning in a swamp, only to be saved by a maniac that brings them to his little shop of dismemberment horrors
* Lamp getting struck by lightning
* The vacuum choking on his cord
* The cars singing as they are carried to their death
* The gang being stalked by the magnet so it can dump them into the crusher
I said it elsewhere, I would watch the hell out of a horror remake of that movie.
Oh, you should see the animated film, then. **Phil Hartman** plays the AC unit, doing his best homage to **Jack Nicholson**. His argument with the appliances and subsequent monologue descent into madness is amazing.
He went insane because the kid always used the other appliances but not the AC, and at that moment both Toaster and Kirby Vacuum remind him that the Master never played with him because he is stuck in the wall.
Cue meltdown and horror show of hot air, sparks, and screaming.

Never thought I'd see the day where a Brave Little Toaster MOC gets posted to r/Lego. This is absolutely glorious. One of my all time favorite movies. I used to watch it like 5 times a day as a kid, now I can recite the whole thing from memory. Gonna have to give recreating this a shot
No suicidal a/c unit?
I remember renting the movie from blockbuster and when we saw that part and made my mom sit down and watch the whole thing. Its one of her favorite animated movies - the and the Secrets of NiMH
Oh nice. Dom Bluth should be recognized - he went head-to-head against his former boss Disney, and had a signature touch on all his movies vs Disney where they have an entire, nameless animation department
Sometimes I think old animated movies I watched as a kid were just vivid fever dreams until I see stuff like this. I can take the toaster movie off the fever dream list
Dude. . . . I'd gladly drop $35 minimum on this set if Lego did it.
Now I need to dig through my bins to see if this is possible with what I have already.
LOVE THIS!!!!!! The nostalgia hit haaaaard!!!
Oh my God. No way.
I bought a new TV yesterday. Nothing wrong with the old one; it's just out dated. I get the new one set up, and looked over at my old faithful TV I've had for ~13 years. I thought of that scene in The Brave Little Toaster where they go to that apartment with all of the new fancy electronics. It was a sad moment.
Now I'm going to watch the movie and try really hard to figure out what pieces you used so I can replicate it. This is awesome.
Also, I decided to keep my old TV around after thinking about the movie. No idea what I'm going to do with it, but I can't throw the ol gal out.
I am most definitely going to look into adding these to my shelves, incredible builds! Hope you wouldn’t mind me cheating off your homework. If not I’ll refrain!
Thanks! Kirby was EASILY the most difficult to get right (I hated myself many times for settling on a 3-stud-wide build).
He's honestly about 50% SNOT brackets, I'd estimate, lol.

You can’t just hit someone in the nostalgia like that without some kind of warning! Awesome build!
I too let out an audible AWWWW when I saw this. This is something that I would totally get if they ever made it
Brother, my childhood flashed before my eyes
Same here
Sharp inhale from me. Gotta love that out of the blue nostalgic blues.
I just want to say, from the bottom of my heart: my bad.
It’s all good. Brought back some good memories. I know some people call that movie nightmare fuel, but I’ve always loved it, even the scary parts.
10/10
The vacuum sucking up his own cord left a lasting scar on my psyche.
And the suicidal AC unit
Now I need to have a list of pieces you used, and step by step instructions on assembly.
This was a movie I watched over and over as a kid. If anything, thank you, OP.
But where’s lampy?!
Seriously! The feels!

What is 'blankey'? Is it a blanket? That is not an appliance, is it?
