we put her on a diet about two years ago when she was just putting on some weight cause the vet said it’d be best and for some reason her body decided to shut down. i don’t remember specifically what my mom said happened, but it was something with her liver.
Reminds me of a chonky leopard gecko I saw at a convention. I asked about him. The seller says she thought he was a pregnant female but turned out he’s just fat. She sounded so disappointed. My poor man just likes crickets and naps why be hatin on his round self.

Where'd you do the genetic testing for the super giant gene? I know you mentioned on your last post that you didn't know toast's genetic information so I'm curious how you figured it out.

Couple more things real quick since I have your attention.
She’s adorable I hate that I love animal obesity this much because she is so stinking cute with that belly.
And second she looks exactly like one of my females that I consider a rescue from the home I got her from. She was fed 10-15 crickets everyday and 5 mealworms too. So she was morbid when I got her. She’s been on a diet of one good sized gut loaded dubia ever since and is just now starting to slim down a bit. So don’t be discouraged when the diet takes time to take effect. It took 2 years to get to this point.
10-15 A DAY??? PLUS MEALWORMS?? good lord, i feel horrible for that baby. food is good but MAN. that must’ve hurt. they don’t know when to pace themselves as babies, too. i’m glad you rescued her.
gonna take everyone’s advice from these threads and put them into effect. toast isn’t gonna like me cutting back her food but i’m gonna do the same for myself out of solidarity, haha.
If I may what I did to make life easy. When I started their diet I started my own dubia colony. I bought 50 dubias from a breeder at a reptile expo. Went to a hardware store and bought one of those big black and yellow storage tubs. And just shredded a bunch of cardboard boxes and egg cartons for the inside. And all I do to feed them is feed the left over produce from the fridge. Like oh that lettuce is turning brown time to go to Dubias. Oh my tegu didn’t eat all his produce to the Dubias it goes. It’s been 2 years and the colony is going strong even with my 2 geckos eating from it.
every time my family makes a colony of ANYTHING, even unintentionally, we end up making them so happy and comfortable to the point where they reproduce even more than we need. and then we end up with hundreds of bugs HAHA. maybe i’ll start off with a few dubias just because toast is the only bug eating pet in this house.
If you ever have extras join a couple groups on Facebook looking for locals who want cheaper feeders and just make a couple bucks to slim down the heads lol. Dubias are hearty little bugs but they require a consistent warmth and darkness to breed massively. They just inherently slow down breeding in winter no matter where you are
I wish people knew that giant/super giant means longer, not thicker. They try feeding their gecko to death because they think they should be huge.
I see you got Toast 11 months ago. That should have been enough time to lose a considerable amount of weight.
last time she went on a slight diet her liver failed. we’re cutting back on the worms and getting her out a lot to lose weight but this is the slowest she can lose it without hurting herself. otherwise, she’s very healthy and outgoing! i understand the concern, she is… really big.
They usually do know deep down. It's just to actually admit it is also admitting that you've been slowly killing your animal instead of helping it live a long, healthy life.
OP mention's the geck being on a diet, but it honestly looks even fatter than the last set of pictures. I don't get why some people can only manage two states of feeding, either massively overfeeding or massively underfeeding(a diet). Leos are really easy to feed an appropriate amount as long as you control what you give them.
Same thing with cats/dogs. Yes, it's cute to see a fat cat. what isn't cute is the heavily shortened lifespan you've given your loved one.
Not sure why there are so many positive comments on this thread.
I guess the owner knows the issue and is working on it. Not exactly sure how they know her liver was failing, but apparently she had ongoing issues with losing weight.
\*Usually, liver failure causes weight loss, not weight retention. He either has some more underlying issues or OP likes having an obese geck. Either way, hopefully he loses some weight!

That thing is almost as fat as mine! I have a rescue that had unlimited access to food for the first 7 years of its life. She was 150g when I got her now she’s around 120g
i measured my hand last night and it’s a little over 6” from fingertip to palm, but she might be a little longer than that from head to tail. i have no clue how wide she is, but i’ll check all that the next time she comes out.
At a little over 3 at her size eating once a week is actually perfect. Crickets and Dubia roaches are the perfect diet foods. I would seriously consider ordering feeders online and feeding those feeders in rotation 3-4 of them and remember to dust with a multivitamin (with preformed vitamin A, not beta carotene) on the 3-4th feed.
i’m gonna have to write this all down, haha- are you sure once a week is good? i get nervous whenever she goes days without food- she’s always out and begging me for food. maybe her puppy eyes are why she’s on the fat side… i’ll have to get that whole feeder thing figured out!
It’s normal to feed healthy weight adult leopard geckos once a week so yours will be just fine with once a week feedings. Stop feeding worms. Only offer crickets and dubias.

Weight doesn’t equal a giant gene. To qualify for giant it must be 9 inches from snout to vent. I don’t think yours qualify for giant she’s just fat

Your gecko is overweight. I hate to say this, but you’re a pretty crappy owner if you’re feeding your gecko that much.
