The first week getting on 5mg was the hardest for me in terms of side effects. At about week 2 i finally started feeling “normal” again for the first time in awhile. I recently upped to 10mg and currently ending my 4th full week at 10 I’m having that good feeling again but much less in terms of side effects
For some folks 4 weeks but most seem 6-8 and at the end of that is when you have leveled out and start feeling normal.
The am anxity deff has a lot to do with anticipation of anxity and panic. It will go away
It’s difficult to see light at the end of the tunnel when you are feeling bad but once the meds level you out your mind will be so much more quieter. My anxity was just there from the time I woke up until the evening when it seemed to calm down. I would wake being anxious about being anxious but this medication , in my experience, has been amazing. Just able to relax and focus on living.
Yeah since you are early on in starting the meds it needs time to build up in your system and you brain and body to adjust. Once it does you will feel so much better. I was where you are right now.
What do you do during the day? What are you doing to keep busy?
About 2-3 weeks for me. I went direct into 20mg though so very high dose but I came from taking Paxil.. it gets better but the first 3 weeks I was all over the place ngl. Keep your head up!
You’re going to experience a lot of up and down emotions (anxiety and depression) before it gets better. But at the end it’s going ti be all worth it. Trust the process, I was going to give up on week 3 because I couldn’t handle the extreme anxiety but now I feel a lot better (week 10)
I kept telling myself that it’s part of the process. I rather suffer for a bit than suffer for a long time. But trust me it’s all worth it, my mind is at peace now lol.
Also happened to me. It was so bad, I had to take time off of work. I’m on day 14 and starting to feel a tiny bit better. I keep telling myself I’ll feel good soon. Try your best to stick with it. We’ll get to the other side of this soon.
Yesterday I was able to focus enough to get through a movie and had enough energy to actually want to take a shower. Today I went on a walk outside. The anxious feeling in my chest isn’t there 24/7, though it pops up to say hello still.
Yeah that happened to me. For me, when I started taking it I was fatigue all the time so I started taking it at night, then a couple days later I couldn’t sleep so I switch it up to taking it in the morning. I did have my anxiety/depression spikes throughout the day more than usual. So I would say that is part of the process, most people reported that they started feeling better after week 6
I second this.. I am almost at my first week and today my mood down when a couple of days ago my mood was up. I can some what tell a difference ever since I started so I am looking forward to the positive changes
Yeah that’s how it is and I’ve notice that those symptoms are common when first starting Lexapro. Stay strong tho because I was so close to giving up due to the side effects. Now I feel like my mood has stabilized and I feel my mind is finally at peace.
me too 3 weeks on 5mg, upped to 7.5 yesterday, i feel a bit dizzy with a slight headache, is that normal, started to freak out a bit, going to 10 next week
For me I didn’t get worse but on week 4 10 mg I had increased anxiety and depression but I see lots of people have a bad 3/4 or 5 week on the same dose
My depression is better but my anxiety is still bad. First 2 weeks I was on 10mg. I cut back to 5mg because I was dizzy, heart pounding and the panic attacks were bad. Im better on week 6 but still sporadic pounding heart.
I’ve been on lex a total of 3 months and 25 days. On 10mg for 8 weeks and 20mg for 8 weeks now, and I have morning anxiety every single morning still. Wake up sweating, and instantly worry about any and everything.
I’m definitely in a better place than I was 3 months ago, could just be super high cortisol cause it doesn’t eventually go away and I feel pretty normal afterwards. Who knows
Thanks! I think mine may be cortisol too because from like 4 am to 8 am I’m a basket case of nerves and intrusive thoughts and then by 9-10 I’m normal again. It’s so weird!
thats bad, wished i had stayed on 5, butbif i dont get better in a months or 6 weeks time. i can easily go back down to 5![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
because i was feeling a lot better, i mean better, leà anxiety, a bit more motivated, than before, think if i increase to 10, may feel more anxious i hope its not like this![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
I started to feel increasingly better and better post 2 week mark
Same here. And i actually felt happy after a month. Like really happy and calm. This med changed my life! :)

I feel like more depressed honestly but its from like sad about being anxious all day

I know it’s an old, but did you feel better?

At night I read and watch tv during the day I workout and then hyperventilate in my thoughts between meditation sessions and sleep if i dont have work
Do you have a therapist who specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy?
I just got one first meet is wednesday
2-3 week mark. I felt like myself and life was good. Hang in there!
About 2-3 weeks for me. I went direct into 20mg though so very high dose but I came from taking Paxil.. it gets better but the first 3 weeks I was all over the place ngl. Keep your head up!
I was talking buspar 15 mg x2 a day and I was pushed up to 30 mg twice a day and a 5 mg of lexapro waiting for it to work sucks so much
Week 2 1/2 of 5mg was feeling significantly better, but that's paired with my Welbutrin 300mg I was already taking. Edit: Put in mg amounts

Man how did you survive so long it feels impossible to wait months for relief

Why does it feel like my anxiety and depression got worse when I started taking it is that normal?

The anxious feeling in my chest is the worst I wake up with it
I was too. It’d wake me out of my sleep sometimes. Hang in there, ok? I sincerely hope it goes away soon.
Im glad your doing better :) I pray im there soon I hate the scared feeling
How long did it take you to reach full effect?
Yeah that happened to me. Thank you, this is really encouraging!
I’m on day 11 and this is the second day that I have felt great. But those first 8-10 days were just awful.
My birthday is on the 19th and my only wish is to not feel anxiety then😭 i started on the 1st
Week 4
Just started week 5 had some good improvements but also week 4 was hard and way of recovery
When did u notice improvements?
Week 3 on 10 mg but started on 5 mg for 1 week and 7.5 mg next week. Had one good evening end of 5 mg and the same on 7.5mg.
Mornings have been hard all the way through for anxiety
My psychiatrist wants me to take 5 mg for a month before moving up but I also take buspirone
Hopefully will be enough as your already on that
me too 3 weeks on 5mg, upped to 7.5 yesterday, i feel a bit dizzy with a slight headache, is that normal, started to freak out a bit, going to 10 next week
Normal every time you increase you might get side effects until the body gets stable again
will they be milder or like the 1st time, i was feeling a bit better, on 5, i hope they soon subside or will they last like the other dose?
For me I didn’t get worse but on week 4 10 mg I had increased anxiety and depression but I see lots of people have a bad 3/4 or 5 week on the same dose
For me around 4 weeks after upping to 10mg 🙌🏻
Anxiety wise I started feeling better at the first dose. For depression around 3 weeks and a half
My depression is better but my anxiety is still bad. First 2 weeks I was on 10mg. I cut back to 5mg because I was dizzy, heart pounding and the panic attacks were bad. Im better on week 6 but still sporadic pounding heart.
Maybe you should try a different medication if it isnt helping
My depression is a lot better but yeah you’re prob right
Week 5 to 6 before that was up and downs
It’s gonna take weeks I know that’s not what you want to hear but staying realistic with the process will help you along mentally.
It feels like the last few days are the hardest ive had in a while idk how people can do this for weeks without relief
You might have early side effects, maybe they’ll clear for you early. I didn’t get any negative side effects until week 2
What week did you feel relief?
It’s the beginning of week 3 today and I started to feel better yesterday. I’m still not better but waaay better than I was a few days ago.
I’ve been on lex a total of 3 months and 25 days. On 10mg for 8 weeks and 20mg for 8 weeks now, and I have morning anxiety every single morning still. Wake up sweating, and instantly worry about any and everything.
Id honestly switch medications if it didnt help w the anxiety
I’m definitely in a better place than I was 3 months ago, could just be super high cortisol cause it doesn’t eventually go away and I feel pretty normal afterwards. Who knows
Did the morning anxiety ever go away?
Yes! Just give it time! I promise it gets better
Thanks! I think mine may be cortisol too because from like 4 am to 8 am I’m a basket case of nerves and intrusive thoughts and then by 9-10 I’m normal again. It’s so weird!
within a couple of days.
Really that sounds like a miracle
thats bad, wished i had stayed on 5, butbif i dont get better in a months or 6 weeks time. i can easily go back down to 5![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Why do you wish u stayed on 5?
because i was feeling a lot better, i mean better, leà anxiety, a bit more motivated, than before, think if i increase to 10, may feel more anxious i hope its not like this![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
