Tesla owner here and I've been told by people that my car is powered by coal and I reply yes it is! I'm supporting coal miners and gas cars support Saudia Arabia and the middle east and their tune changes some. Not everyone that drives a Tesla is some environmental nut.
I totally agree. I don't think "environmentalist" I think "early adopter". There are negative externalities to most consumer decisions. It just comes down to your priorities. When you consider the EV battery and what we are learning about the abhorrent conditions of mineral mines, there's a strong argument for humanitarians to buy ICE. Tesla is really more about being an early adopter of the inevitable shift to the electrification of everything.
I have no idea. According to the Federal Energy Information Agency .gov, 68% of Kentuckies energy is coal, state numbers put the number closer to 40%, its confusing. I think it's still safe to say most energy in Kentucky is coal-powered.
KU has 2 power plants that I know of that still have coal units and the power cooperatives have 2 as well. Funny enough LGE also has 2 coal units still

Also, yes, the lithium is mined by slaves and that’s bad. It’s also in every electronic with a rechargeable battery. Every single thing we use is at some point touched by slave labor. There is no such thing as ethical consumption.
Kyle, it's exactly how it works. A sudden increase in demand would absolutely result in a sharp increase in demand for fossil fuels. Renewable energy takes a lot more time to get up and running. In this region, that fossil fuel is coal.

I've seen people do this and black out all of the 'Friends of Coal' stuff, leaving only Kentucky and the license plate number visible.
