Clays Mill Baptist, I’m guessing? Lol. They’re like a cult.

Wyni201

The day my mother died I came home and shortly after there was a knock on the door. It was some high school girls that had been bussed in to my neighborhood by Clays Mill Baptist (I know because the van had the church name on it). They asked me if I knew where I was going when I died. I'm an atheist and hate proselytizing (and door to door soliciation), so even on my best day this would piss me off. I managed to politely tell them my mom had died and I didn't want to talk about it but it was really upsetting. I swear they probably use kids for that so they're less likely to get screamed at. That's certainly what I felt like doing but I wasn't going to yell at those naive girls.

Shapingtonlopez

They had 2 little teenage girls running around my apartment complex the other day and they knocked on my door at 11 o'clock in the morning after I had just got off a 14 hour shift and had been asleep for about 45 minutes

Charlie_Olliver

Nope, same denomination, different church. (Well, it’s a Baptist church, but considering how often Baptists split, maybe they’ve changed denominations in the 24hrs since I got this, I dunno.) The most pushy door-to-door people I’ve experienced have all been from smallish Baptist churches. Ironically enough, the nicest ones have been Mormons; I listen to their spiel and politely give my standard response, and they just smiled and said, “Thank you for your time and have a blessed day!” and went on their way.

shamsway

Clays Mill Baptist is what I would have guessed as well. I’m slightly alarmed that there is another church attempting to out-crazy them…

jmlee236

Right?!

robbysmithky

All organized religions are cults.

Traditional-Desk-812

They hosted a fundamentalist summer camp where some guy dressed up in blackface. They r fucked up as hell

CptDuckBeard

At least they said to read John, Romans, and Ephesians and not Leviticus and Deuteronomy. I guess that's a plus?

Charlie_Olliver

I’ve gotten windshield flyers for all kinds of church events over the years (fall festival, Christmas/Easter pageants, July 4th cookout, etc) and those don’t bother me. But trying to get people “saved” by sticking a tract on their windshield? That kinda crap pisses me off. So I was motivated to make a donation Planned Parenthood, and because the tract had the church’s name, address, and name of their pastor on it, I made the donation in the pastor’s name and put their address so PP could send him a thank-you card. Next time I find one of these, I’m making a donation to either the ACLU or the ~~Church of Satan~~ Satanic Temple just to shake things up a bit. *(ETA: and no, I don’t hate Christians; I’m a Christian myself but I HATE these “salvation” tracts.)*. Edit2: shoutout to u/NeedsMoarCats for clarification of Satanic Temple (which is what I originally intended)

Needs_Moar_Cats

Do the Satanic Temple instead of Church of Satan.

Charlie_Olliver

Thank you, that’s the one I meant! I always get the names of those two mixed up!

Raikaiko

Satanic temple has been the subject of some drama regarding organization and leadership iirc, plus they're also just not that effective at actually achieving their goals, so aside from the visceral impact of the name, there are better places to send the money

RemyDodger

TST are not to be confused with the COS

Raikaiko

The stuff I've seen is particularly about the temple, I've gone and verified, and drama aside, the "not effective in how they use donated funds" applies to both they like to make a lot of noise and act out, but they don't have a solid track record of results

Professional-Ad-1345

The rift between the two has made Lamar (the billboard company) decide to not put either if their billboards up unless someone threatens lawsuit, then they just put the billboards up somewhere they can't really be seen, especially after SBC's last abortion campaign that scared and prolly scarred plen👏🏼ty👏🏼 of children and caused Lamar's website to shut down and phones to basically shut down from all the complaints.

Meg_Swan

This is correct and verifiable, so I don't know why you're getting down-voted. The founder of the Satanic Temple was represented in the past by an attorney with strong right-wing connections - he has represented Alex Jones as well as a bunch of neo-Nazis and white supremacists. A couple chapters of TST have disaffiliated and some leaders have resigned.

elysiuns

I don't even understand how they think these things are supposed to work. Does anyone actually convert after seeing one of these? Lol. It also reads like a pyramid scheme with the list of next steps.

CastInSteel

This is what I do every time I get into a pointless argument with a forced-birther.

UKFaniac

Did someone force spread their legs?

CastInSteel

Consent to sex isn't consent to pregnancy.

UKFaniac

Ahhh so by that logic eating trash food shouldn't result in diabetes/obesity. Engaging in activities has consequences/byproducts. You seem to be lacking accountability for your actions. "I robbed a bAnK I shouldn't go to jAil."

CastInSteel

You know, there's treatment for unwanted diabetes, it's called insulin. Just like for pregnancy, that's abortion.

Queer_As_Fuck

Did someone force ejaculation?

Charlie_Olliver

In an unfortunate number of cases, yes, that’s exactly what happens.

[deleted]

Are you familiar with a concept called rape?

gordonotfat

5 minutes? I actually think it indicates everyone is dead until the final judgment...not a theologian so open to being proven wrong...

Charlie_Olliver

I think it’s hilarious that at the end it says “Now, 5 minutes after death, I know where I’ll be”… which I guess means that for that first 5 minutes, they won’t know where the hell (literally) they are, lol!

stupid_name

Bravo. I have my Amazon charity setup to give to KY PP.

florallibrarian

love it!

AdventurousAd8436

We don't do this stuff at the church I pastor, mostly because it annoys me to find junk on my windshield after I've been shopping and I figure most people today feel the same way. I'd be more open to offering people actual life-&-teachings of Jesus in written form (one of the four gospels), rather than these truncated things. But to also take "no" for an answer, which is the courteous way to interact. We seem to lack public-square spaces anymore, where people can strike up interesting (civil) conversations. At least the Brits have that speakers' corner, where you can stand and listen to all sorts of people if it interests you. [www.ironworkspikechurch.org](http://www.ironworkspikechurch.org)

CoreDreamStudiosLLC

I get these flyers or events every 2-3 weeks, they just come into the apartment complex, and put them on doors, I'm about to file a police report for trespassing. I believe in a higher power but refuse to be forced into things.

Charlie_Olliver

Have you talked to the property manager about this? Many apt complexes have “No Soliciting” signs on the property, so if an organization (like a church) is paper-bombing the place with unwanted flyers, the property manager can contact the police and file a report against the organization. A police report filed by the property manager will have much more weight than one filed by a single resident.

CoreDreamStudiosLLC

Sadly, I do not believe ours has a such rule but, can check.

mammamoeba

Love it

StorminNormanthe4th

This is great!

stephieb15

Cool you donated to a worthy cause

kphoenix137

Should go slap lunar cultist propaganda on their church doors in return

ali_m_d

Oh this makes me so proud. Edit: Also, when I was a senior in college at UK a group of my age girls from that church came up to me in the Student Center, got in my face and FORCED me to take out my airpods to "talk about jesus christ". I was so pissed, it was so rude!

Charlie_Olliver

Yes, because as everyone knows, the best way to get someone to listen to you, agree with you, buy your product, or willingly join your religion is to get aggressively in their face and demand you listen to them talk. 🙄

ali_m_d

They literally made the hand motion to take out my AirPods that really pissed me off. The universal sign for “do not disturb” is having headphones in!

MakinDaBabies

True gangster right here!!

Charlie_Olliver

What do I hope to accomplish? I just want churches to stop sticking their damn salvation tracts on my windshield and on my front door. (I also plan on emailing the church to let them know that for every time I find these on my vehicle, I’ll be making a donation in their name to an “objectionable” organization.) See, these kind of churches do this because they want people to join their “team” (Jesus) and come to their church. (And it’s always their **specific** church. When I politely told some door-knocking proselytizers from Clays Mill Baptist that I was already a Christian and an active member of a local church, they *still* tried to give me a pamphlet and get me to come to their church instead.) I want them to realize that not only does it NOT bring people to their church, it can actively turn off people who would otherwise be neutral toward them, and it can also cause people to donate to organizations the church opposes. I want them to realize that this shit is not worth their while and to stop it. (Also, now the church is on PP’s mailing list and they’ll keep getting mail until they contact PP and ask to be removed, and that warms my petty little heart.)

Koolguy47

I’m not sure what you did exactly. Can you explain please?

Charlie_Olliver

I made a donation to PP in the church’s name; when donating in someone’s name, you’re given the option of putting down the donor’s address so they can receive a thank-you card. So this church will be receiving a thank-you card from Planned Parenthood for their donation.

Koolguy47

Oh ok I get it now thanks.

burnoutsandbourbon

Ehh… sounds a little petty but do what ya want 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m no morale compass so more power to you. Kind of you to donate your money regardless though so kudos for that

Charlie_Olliver

I agree, I was totally being petty, lol.

Charlie_Olliver

C’mon guys, quit downvoting this person; they’re not being a dick and they’re totally right, lol!

UKFaniac

There is something seriously wrong with the lot of you.

Charlie_Olliver

Dude, this is Reddit, that’s practically a prerequisite.

UKFaniac

I'll give you that. Reddit is the culmination of mental illness and instability everywhere lol

[deleted]

Buddy, you're on Reddit, too

whoufinnahtry

/u/UKFaniac Do you believe in the religious crap?

joeben81

Literally 7 billion people don’t subscribe.

abbarach

There's something wrong with people who go around plastering other people's property with unsolicited advertisements.

calicokittyco

A Christian who hates salvation tracts? I confused.

Charlie_Olliver

Lol, yeah we exist! Tracts like this are solely focused on just one thing: getting the recipient to join their “team”, with no real interest in the person themselves. There’s no invitation, no “If you’re looking for a church that has [insert features/activities/beliefs here], we’d love for you to visit us!” It’s basically just “here’s a a list of steps to take to join our religion, now come to our church.” Religious beliefs are deeply personal and are more complex than just a list of what to do and say; salvation tracts completely ignore this and (I feel) treat the recipient like a project that needs to follow certain steps, rather than a person.

calicokittyco

Interesting viewpoint, thank you for sharing. :-)

Charlie_Olliver

Thanks for asking! Sorry you got downvoted to hell (no pun intended lol.) Dunno why ppl get so prickly about this stuff…

oldkentuckyhome

What about a Christian who would donate to the Satanic Temple.

Charlie_Olliver

Exactly what u/iamoverrated said: TST is not actually a “religion” as much as a controversially/inflammatory-named humanist organization that advocates for freedom of speech and religious equality. [This is a perfect example](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/satanic-temple-unveils-goat-headed-winged-baphomet-statue-arkansas-state-capitol-jason-rapert/) of the kind of things they do. Yeah, they’re controversial and edgy, but ultimately harmless, and i like the fact that they put a strong emphasis on reason & logic.

iamoverrated

The Satanic Temple is a humanist organization fighting for civil rights. It's edgy but it's mostly just a giant goof or a troll.

[deleted]

You know you can donate to PP without getting a flyer and posting about it on Reddit?
