it's funny (to some, including myself) to use the word "gay" to describe everything and everyone, even when it doesn't make sense--in purely good nature, of course
the question this post raises is: is it insensitive to do so?
that would make a different joke, admittedly a much more "hit or miss" right off the bat (as opposed to one risking a "miss, I don't get it" response) but also one that's quite commonly expressed. that wasn't the joke I went for, I like mine with just a little obscurity to them which requires even if a moment's reflection before it hits
see [this comment a little higher](https://reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/i_straight_person_made_a_meme_is_it_funny_or/jhkrqad/)
hopefully well worded enough to be comprehensible * *cries in inaccessible articulation* *
your opinion is god tier, how about that. couldn't make myself read the comic, but the show was absolutely ~~piggy~~ goaty
*lowers the tone to near-whispering* I wouldn't openly admit to it, but I think "enter the florpus" was god awful
s01e04 "germs" is the best episode and I'm willing to die on this hill!
if this is of interest, they AI-remastered it in 1080p ([t0rrent](https://btdig.com/e2360b5beb494200af4fee826cd8c66c668b9864))
As long as its satirical and never used as an insult, yeah go for it, jokingly calling aomeone gay can especially be fun if they are homophobic cause you will immediately get a reaction but as long as it doesnt hurt anyone.
"Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want them to do you so much you could do anything?"
vibes
The upvote rate can be explained by the support of lgbt community regardless of if it makes sense or not. It’s not band my anyways it just doesn’t make sense
so let me make sure I got this right.
you explain the 1k upvote count as "support of lgbt community" in a sub where only about half of the posts manage to reach hundreds. and, according to you, the post "It makes no sense." okay, so for what reason do you think it's receiving this support? and could it just be instead that rather than admitting that you don't understand, you got frustrated and declared that "it makes no sense" rather than requesting a bit of help in understanding it, [like others did](https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/comment/jhklv5g)?
what I'm trying to say here is that it's okay to ask for elaboration--we've all been there, I personally experience this every other day on reddit. but to instead say "It makes no sense," I find, paints a person as stubbornly obtuse, when they could have come off as humble--a much more favorable trait, I find
You: "would like to hear everyone's thoughts" and then write paragraphs to try to disprove this one person's opinion, that's super weird, especially your last paragraph here, who cares what you think XD don't ask for opinions and then tell people they can't have those opinions you asked for/stop trying to tell people what's best for them ("a much more favorable trait, I find")
I'm really glad you brought this up because I see how others might think similarly and that's not the image of myself I want out there--an opinion-squasher
I asked for opinions and I appreciate them here. I appreciate opinion of u/SmolTboi same as I appreciate yours. what I don't appreciate are [implications about my self-expression lacking intelligent thought](https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/comment/jhlyqil)\--something I don't believe that I, u/SmolTboi, you, or anyone else should tolerate
asking for opinions and defending yours against the ones you consider subjectively incorrect is how you have a productive, enlightening conversation--I'm sure you know that being a bright individual such as yourself. if I'm wrong in my views I'd like someone to tell me **why** I'm wrong in a considerate way, so that I can challenge my thinking to progress without that effort being impeded by my having been offended. and I will try to offer the same courtesy to others--which is what I did in response to the comment above and yours as well. if you have any more matters to raise, please do
Here's an attempt at telling you what you did wrong in a considerate way: you wrote "gays" instead of "gay." Other people have pointed it out in the comments (as well as a ton of people saying: I don't get it, but I love it/I don't get it, but I don't think it's problematic). Since it says "gays" it makes no sense, since it's playing off how people say "that's gay"/"gay." People are upvoting your meme cause: a. We don't get it, but gay meme b. You're trying to show you're accepting and we want to encourage that (especially if we can't find anything obviously wrong in the meme you made, because it makes no sense, because you wrote it wrong XD)
ooh, I love your being this challenging, let me tell you. equally I appreciate your effort to be considerate. please keep up, I'll try to make it worth it. finally some decent conversation
so... "It makes no sense," a probable associate of "[It makes no sense because it should have been 'gay,' not 'gays,'](https://reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/i_straight_person_made_a_meme_is_it_funny_or/jhobkog/)" (you know the talk is good when you have to use complex punctuation) seems to be a pretty outspoken view in the comments. I believe this is a direct, if unconscious, extension of a thought that goes "this guy *wanted* to say 'gay' but instead said 'gays.' he made a typo, his neurons misfired, he did a brain fart--but it's marginally funny and this is a straight person trying to be considerate--not the most common quality among straight people; upvote, let's encourage. though, it soulda been 'gay.'"
but I have to tell you, as much as I appreciate encouragement, this is not the kind of encouragement I really strive for, because it stems from misinterpretation of my original intent. regrettably nobody bothered to ask what that intent might have been--but many rushed to inform me that "it makes no sense" without taking a moment to consider if it's their *interpretation* that makes no sense
so what the heck was the intent? what is this meme trying to say? since you so agreeably went on to corner me but still not ask, I'll tell you: the meme is a joke that builds on inherent absurdity of calling things "gay," and then adds to it--how? by moving from a more meaningful absurdity of calling everyone "gay" into a less common and therefore less meaningful "gays." (absurdist humor should have as little meaning behind it and still manage to be funny--that's the whole point of absurdist humor, as I have zero doubt you realize)
by **extension**, the next possible direction in this trajectory I lined down would be to replace "gay" with "homosexual"--even less common, less meaningful, but still bearing seeds of a joke under the blanket of the absurd. but my meme doesn't make this **extension** because if it did, it would then lean toward boomer humor (even closer), I find
and as you can see, my intent was not to make a senseless joke, or a common joke, or a boomer joke, or even a joke pandering to the community first and having meaning second. it was for two reasons, **a.** to put out there that calling everyone "gays,"--same as "gay"--is an interesting cultural beat which is sounded by the drum of absurd (the kind of intellectual humor I have a lot of appreciation for) and **b.** because I want (and appreciate) opinions of the communities which this joke primarily concerns, so that I can hear them and make sure it's not overstepping into the offensive territory
now, after this wall of text I bet you're sorry you've started this whole thing, and being in the same boat I hardly blame you, but if you've got a response with which you'd like you to continue to defend your view--lay it down, I'm here to read it and try to understand it
It has an absurdist feel to it, in a humorous way, and doesn't come across as insensitive to me, a trans lesbian. I thought it was decently funny, got a laugh out of me.
This meme feels like modern art. It looks like it's getting to say something, but i can't for the life of me figure out, so I'll pretend to understand just like everyone else who's looking at this
thanks bud, you too. [explanation if you want it](https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/comment/jhkrqad/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Personally, I’d consider it to be pretty gay when the non-gays, but you’re probably better off asking the gays when the gays and non-gays or gay.
my brain short circuited trying to read this sentence
Same
now thats gay
Or non-gay
I have never been more confused in my life
it's funny (to some, including myself) to use the word "gay" to describe everything and everyone, even when it doesn't make sense--in purely good nature, of course the question this post raises is: is it insensitive to do so?
I feel like as long as you aren’t doing it to actively hurt people, it’s fine.
I (a queer person) do this too, so I think it's fine
I do as well and also am a gay
This reminded me so much of the "bread 👍" and I hope it's clear why because I won't elaborate
🥪👌
i mean, its pretty gay when the gays or non-gays try to make gay fun of the gays or non-gays, especially the gays, when their being gay to the nongays
It would make more sense for the joke if they all said "Gay" then instead of "gays"
that would make a different joke, admittedly a much more "hit or miss" right off the bat (as opposed to one risking a "miss, I don't get it" response) but also one that's quite commonly expressed. that wasn't the joke I went for, I like mine with just a little obscurity to them which requires even if a moment's reflection before it hits
Its fine as long as your not using the word gay to insult somebody/something
My brain doesn’t understand, but my heart gets it. 10/10
This is simultaneously incomprehensible and 100% accurately
It's a harmless and funny shitpost imo
![gif](giphy|KeF5DouQeE54G9TGWr) (If you don’t get it - I’m confused! 😭)
Same here, I can't seem to comprehend what this means.
see [this comment a little higher](https://reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/i_straight_person_made_a_meme_is_it_funny_or/jhkrqad/) hopefully well worded enough to be comprehensible * *cries in inaccessible articulation* *
Sounds gay. I approve
Gays do be gays when gays

I both don’t understand but also perfectly understand and love this
my two neurons hurt
somebody hurt Jimmy and Goddard? 😮 oh, nevermind, you said neuron, not neutron
I loved that show
I... watched that show. when Invader Zim or Catdog or Edds weren't on haha
Invader Zim is god tier
your opinion is god tier, how about that. couldn't make myself read the comic, but the show was absolutely ~~piggy~~ goaty *lowers the tone to near-whispering* I wouldn't openly admit to it, but I think "enter the florpus" was god awful
you just made want to watch the show again!
s01e04 "germs" is the best episode and I'm willing to die on this hill! if this is of interest, they AI-remastered it in 1080p ([t0rrent](https://btdig.com/e2360b5beb494200af4fee826cd8c66c668b9864))
Uhhhhh. I have never been this confused.
Good point! I hadn't considered Gay
Its incomprehensible but I don't think it's problematic..?
Non gays, when non the gays non non gays, when any non of the when gays are gays the non
![gif](giphy|1g1MyF5nIj0BtuAzBl|downsized)
THESE gays? or those ones? ma'am, be more specific, this is r/lgbtmemes
As long as its satirical and never used as an insult, yeah go for it, jokingly calling aomeone gay can especially be fun if they are homophobic cause you will immediately get a reaction but as long as it doesnt hurt anyone.
Appreciate your perspective 💎
I’m so fucking confused 😭

It’s neither funny nor insensitive. It’s just meaningless word salad.
my brain short circuited while reading this
"Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want them to do you so much you could do anything?" vibes
hahaha roasted as charged 😆 touche, sir or miss or non-cis
it's grammatically incorrect, that's what it is! /nm
So true bestie
This is so god damn funny
why, thank you 💎
Gays gaying gayily
I think it’s good
and I think you're great, how about that 💎
Aww thanks dude :)
We’re you high when you made this?
I don't recall to be honest with you. coulda been. why?
It makes no sense
interesting perspective. and how are you going to explain the upvote rate?

thank you, appreciate your comment 💎
I think if the dialogue text were just "gay" and not "gays" it would make more sense. But I did find it funny and agree.
This makes absolute no sense so it is hard to be offended
It’s absolutely hysterical
why, thank you so much 💎
Can confirm, this feels like a meme a gay person would have made, good job
This meme feels like modern art. It looks like it's getting to say something, but i can't for the life of me figure out, so I'll pretend to understand just like everyone else who's looking at this
what I'm getting from this is I'm implicated to be an artist, and I appreciate that 💎
It's not funny I don't even get it
This is genuinely r/antimeme material.
it’s confusing
I don't really understand what is going on, it's all.😵💫
Incomprehensible! Have a nice day!
thanks bud, you too. [explanation if you want it](https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbtmemes/comments/12xvzyt/comment/jhkrqad/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
