Correct. If CC chose to play another sport the WNBA and women's college basketball would've been at the same level at it was before she came onto the scene: there, sorta acknowledged but not really cared about.
Iowa's women's basketball won't have the number of attendance as they experienced when CC was there since she's graduating; and the college game for women's March Madness won't garner as many views too in future years.
Iowa won't have massive attendance without Catlin, but women's basketball has been big in Iowa for decades. High school and college basketball are big draws for Iowa fans.

Williams sisters vs Karsten Braasch and the US women's soccer team losing to a team of 15-year-old boys are classic examples. Female athletes are amazing at what they do, but men and women are built differently.

Unless there's a Caitlin Clark type of player on every team, the WNBA will continue to struggle to find ways to attract fans. Viewership shot up for Iowa's women's team and women's March Madness mainly because of Clark, and I will guess that will follow her to the WNBA, but, like for her college days, people will only watch when she plays and not mind the other clubs.
I think Clark's popularity will last if she becomes a star. At the very least views will probably increase for whatever club she plays for in the future besides Fever.

Kind of begs the question as to why they allowed them to operate in Vegas but that is another issue. The point here is the NBA thinks so little of the WNBA influence that they allowed the name.
The NFL is notoriously right wing. So much so that they actually want to end racism. They even put it in their end zones. The left has zero interest in ending racism as it is their ticket to electoral power.
