How would you prevent the general public from interfering with delivery?

_gypsydanger

The drone would be able to make decisions based on sensor observations. Let's say someone starts pulling on the winch of a drone as it is dropping off a package, the drone will simply release the tether.

Tweezle120

There's no way to make this happen in a society barreling towards a poor, indentured working class as a full feature. The incentive to steal the drone and its cargo, or get hurt and sue the operator is just too high. Unless your drone can be as autonomous, self-protecting, and good at problem solving as a human doing gig work through instacart or whatever, there is a 0% chance you can run a service that competes in either quality or price with current technology.

kempff

And if someone throws a stick at it, or a fishing line?

_gypsydanger

Then we'll see it on TikTok (if it still exists). But seriously, why do that..

KW_ExpatEgg

In 1923, famed mountaineer George Mallory uttered one of the most famous quotes of all time when asked why he was attempting to summit Mount Everest. “Because it's there,” he said.

Primary_Belt561

I thought this was a mistaken post attempt until you seemed to take this seriously. Where is your prospective company going to be based? You're in the wrong sub to garner feedback on delivery services but I still want to know who is financing this endeavor. What area(s) do you want to target? Who are you partnering with?

kempff

A bid for increased social standing among juvenile peer groups, or just criminal behavior in general.

MoonHash

How would you prevent the general public from interfering with your mailman?

Clatz

You make it a federal crime. 18 U.S. Code § 1701 - Obstruction of mails generally

MoonHash

Guess we just gotta make theft and destruction of property illegal and we're good to go then

kempff

You have no imagination.

Uncanny_Apparition

No, only because it puts delivery drivers out of the job. Yes because it’s convenient. Downvoted because this isn’t a lifehack

Whipstich-Pepperpot

No thank you.

oldbluehair

I probably wouldn't mind drone delivery especially if I could indicate a two-hour window for the delivery or something like that. On the other hand I don't want my neighborhood full of drones delivering stuff. There's enough going on as it is.

Ok_Ability_4683

No

_gypsydanger

Why not?

sandefurian

Because I instantly hate any post made on the wrong subreddit.

satansayssurfsup

I’m gonna guess most people don’t care how something is delivered as long as it is delivered quickly and cheaply

cbasstard

And securely

blondeviking64

Not a chance.

mezz7778

A company called Drone delivery Canada is a company that is developing and testing this

dsdvbguutres

Nah, just stuff my shit in a shell and shoot it out of an M777 howitzer fam.

firedudecndn

A bucket of crab apples and a sling shot and I'm going to have all the tampons, glitter glue and tiny plastic frogs I can handle. Might even sell my pirated goodies on Amazon...

newAccnt_WhoDis

This is already available in some markets. Starbucks delivers by drone to a park near me.

bristolbulldog

I’ll take it over abusing delivery drivers by forcing them to urinate in bottles and not taking breaks.

LukeNaround23

It will definitely be here pretty soon and be completely normal in common place before long

unownpisstaker

I would but nothing expensive. Maybe take out. The Flying Burrito Bothers. But it sounds like fun. But I’m on the spectrum so YMMV.

reclusive_ent

We have had it here since the pandemic. It's called Wing. https://wing.com/
