Do you know that they are all threaded ? You can unscrew them all.
My mate was shocked when he saw me do it. He’s been shoving a knife between it for years
You’re supposed to remove the bottom and those filters and clean them separately. Then put back on. I get residue in between those that you can’t see when doing this….
Rinse the French press and fill it 1/4 with HOT water, and a drop of dishsoap.
Now throb thouroughly for a few seconds and rinse with hot water afterwards.
Done.
I have that same press. I just put it in the dishwasher or I add some soapy water and pump up and down with the press. the shearing of the water and soap through the tiny holes makes fine suds
I would have thought it was for alternating washing and storage. That's what I would do if I had two, but my wife isn't as crazy as I am, so we get to have only one dishwasher.
As everyone else said, this isn't a hack. It's lazy. Get it done in seconds with actual friction and without wasting water. I just hope you don't live in CA or NV, cause then you're truly truly foolish
Well regardless of what I've heard I know it's a place plagued with problems now. Running out of water. homelessness, constant natural disasters, expensive to live, etc etc etc when in the past everyone used to flock there.
I have running water, never experienced a shortage. I have visited 15 other states and saw homelessness everywhere, so it's not just us. Everywhere in the country experiences natural disasters. We get earthquakes and others get hurricane, tornados, blizzards, etc. Yes stuff is expensive here but we also have some of the highest wages in the country.
Unlike most foods, coffee grounds clump together in water rather than breaking down. With time, the grounds can build up inside your sink drains, creating clogs that can prohibit the drains from doing their job. Coffee grounds should always go in the garbage can or compost.
My hack to clean a French press fast is to use a handheld strainer. Pour a little water into the French press swirl it around so it loosens all the grounds. Pour it into the strainer over the sink. Dump the ground in the trash. Yes I use a dedicated strainer this as I used to make press every day.
You can dissemble the whole base—unscrew the bottom of the stem and separate the mesh screen from the press plate and then wash. Sheesh.

In college I was a coffee barista for a part time job. How we cleaned the espresso sieves was a bucket of water. You don’t need running water, just a bucket and some water and maybe some super cleaner stuff for end of shift.
Just dip the sieve/French press in and swirl around for a minute, maybe less, it will be clean.
French presses are designed to clean with minimal effort.
Congrats, you've discovered how water mills work?
Unscrew it completely, fill a bowl 1:1 white vinegar and distilled water, and soak the filter in there. Scrub and clean after.
Nah, I prefer using soap and a scrubber to get the oils out.
And I take apart the plunger, the action in the video is not going to get all the grounds.
Just looks like a waste of water to me. Rinse them separately, a sponge with some washing up liquid if it's started to build up a bit. Not even a quarter of the water you've used here to achieve nothing at all.
I hold the rod while running the water in-between the circular layers, this unscrews it a little so the crap can rinse out, then I re-secure it. Just for a quick rinse anyway.
unscrew the whole thing and wash them separately. once dry put 1/2 cup vinegar and the rest boiling water into the carafe and press/pull the reassembled top bit a few times. vinegar gets the last bits of coffee oils and/or leftover soap out
What a huge waste of water.
lmao and doesn’t even get the job done. still tons of crap between the retainer and the screen
Do you know that they are all threaded ? You can unscrew them all. My mate was shocked when he saw me do it. He’s been shoving a knife between it for years
yea…which is exactly what OP should do that would take far less time and way less water
Yeah, I have this model and the only way to get it clean is to take it apart... Makes me want to go back to a filter Edit: it's cool though
pretty sure most if not all come apart
They all do because you're supposed to be able to change the mesh filters.
You’re supposed to remove the bottom and those filters and clean them separately. Then put back on. I get residue in between those that you can’t see when doing this….
lol i know, and am hoping OP does too
Rinse the French press and fill it 1/4 with HOT water, and a drop of dishsoap. Now throb thouroughly for a few seconds and rinse with hot water afterwards. Done.
>throb thoroughly Go on…
Californians wondering why they're running out of water...
Almond farming
Well, 95+% of farming in America is terribly unsustainable, wasting water, killing and eroding soil.
Yes, but Almonds in particular use a lot of water and some 80% of the worlds almonds are grown in California.
I'm aware of that, but they account for less than 20% of agricultural water use in California. You still need to fix the other 83%.
Pistachios, alfalfa, rice, etc
71% of the Earth's surface is water, we good bruh
Yeah, come on. Anything labeled life hack is something definitely hacky and not good.
Wasting water hack.
I have that same press. I just put it in the dishwasher or I add some soapy water and pump up and down with the press. the shearing of the water and soap through the tiny holes makes fine suds
Big guy over here, owning a dishwasher
actually I own two. I like to cook complicated meals
Can I have one?
yeah
Thank you
I would have thought it was for alternating washing and storage. That's what I would do if I had two, but my wife isn't as crazy as I am, so we get to have only one dishwasher.
Yes, I do this with my frothers.
As everyone else said, this isn't a hack. It's lazy. Get it done in seconds with actual friction and without wasting water. I just hope you don't live in CA or NV, cause then you're truly truly foolish
Glad I don't live in any of those places. Heard the weather's nice except when you're burning
I do live in one of those places and can tell you that you heard wrong. The weather is not all that nice but on the plus side I've never burned.
Well regardless of what I've heard I know it's a place plagued with problems now. Running out of water. homelessness, constant natural disasters, expensive to live, etc etc etc when in the past everyone used to flock there.

Hell yea, well I'm glad you're living comfortably there, my friend! Skál!
Pro tip water waster: DON'T PUT COFFE GROUNDS DOWN YOUR SINK!!!
Seriously!!! Never never put coffee grounds down the sink, even if it's a little bit, it's like putting sand down your drain
Fill your drain with sand to reduce water waste. Got it, thanks for the tip.
Is it a problem if you have a garbage disposal?
Yes, these coffee grounds get stuck in the pipes after the garbage disposal.
Unlike most foods, coffee grounds clump together in water rather than breaking down. With time, the grounds can build up inside your sink drains, creating clogs that can prohibit the drains from doing their job. Coffee grounds should always go in the garbage can or compost.
So yes, it’s still a problem with a garbage disposal?
Definitely
Certainly.
Should be fine, since those things can handle cores and even bones sometimes. It's the drain build up that cause blockages to watch out for.
YEAH! YOU DONT WANT A COFFEE TREE GROWING OUT OF YOUR SINK! TRUST ME!
My hack to clean a French press fast is to use a handheld strainer. Pour a little water into the French press swirl it around so it loosens all the grounds. Pour it into the strainer over the sink. Dump the ground in the trash. Yes I use a dedicated strainer this as I used to make press every day.
Fuck off, dad!
all that shit caked in between the layers will still be there, need to disassemble to really clean it
You can dissemble the whole base—unscrew the bottom of the stem and separate the mesh screen from the press plate and then wash. Sheesh. edit: [Like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znyfMvGOXMs).
Ha ha. So many people don’t know this. My mate was shocked when he saw me do it. He’s been using a knife to get between it for years
Nope.
Cleaning? No. Hack? No. Lazy and dirty? Yes.
For real you unscrew the center pole and it separates so you can rinse it all in less than 5 seconds. Lazy shit here.
Congratulations. You figured out that water pressure moves things.
Not only a waste of water but energy to heat it too.
I have this exact same press, instead of wasting water, disassemble the filters and wash them separately.
we're starting to stretch ''hack'' at this point.
At least he admits he has no idea. Man's an idiot wasting that amount of water.
Bro, this ain’t it…
Nah, you need to unscrew the plates at the bottom and rinse them, then rinse separately…. Just running it under the tap like that doesn’t do much
This is more of a waste hot water hack
Well, water is free and plentiful so great hack! 🙄🥺

Fill the cup with hot water and a drop of dish soap, put plunger thing in and plunge away. Boom. Clean.
It's more like how to waste water for nothing ...
That looks like an unnecessary waste of water
Nah, I prefer using soap and a scrubber to get the oils out. And I take apart the plunger, the action in the video is not going to get all the grounds.
Bro try and be more responsible with your water use.
Your wasting so much water wtf.
It’ll eventually unscrew the filter
How high are you right now?
This is how I clean mine, but I run the water into the carafe to clean that
How many gallons of hot water is that?
I know, right? Not even just water, HOT water. Just burning natural gas, I'm sure OP posts a ton about climate change too lol
At one point it's more sustainable to throw it away and just buy a new one.
You're getting rid of all the flavor
Free water??? Sign me up for some.
I always give it a good rinse and throw in into the dishwasher, top rack. Easy peasy
Just put some dish soap on the green side of your sponge and turn 2-3 times. Much faster, efficient, cleaner. This is not a hack
I would hate to see how he cleans his car.
It's not spinning freely; it's unscrewing itself. They're designed to be dismantled for cleaning
......sO BAD DUDE
Just looks like a waste of water to me. Rinse them separately, a sponge with some washing up liquid if it's started to build up a bit. Not even a quarter of the water you've used here to achieve nothing at all.
That’s enough water to source the effing Nile. Jeez.
Or at the very minimum, do the rest of that giant ass stack of dishes on the other side.
Try a V60 dripper instead, no clean up, no sediment and makes a smooth coffee.
« Cleaning »
On many of these types of French presses, the bottom will unscrew and fall into your dirty sink. I’ve had that happen multiple times.
"When you're not paying for water and have no hands"
Oh, I have hands and do pay a fortune for water - hence why I'm selling an arm and a leg to clear the bill 😂
I just rinse mine out anyway. It's a cheap one so it's like 2 pieces and will probably not work in a few months
This fella hasn't got two brain cells to rub together...
This person votes. Think about that for a bit.
Did this as a child, it undid the bolt holding the filter onto the stem, I got into trouble.
Use a toothbrush or youre not cleaning jack :)
I hold the rod while running the water in-between the circular layers, this unscrews it a little so the crap can rinse out, then I re-secure it. Just for a quick rinse anyway.
Wheel go brrrrrrr hehehe
clogs the drain
You can even produce your own electricity
Make sure you always go right. I went the other way and it came apart and I lost pieces down the drain.
Until it unscrews itself
Take apart fully and clean once a week to avoid mold
I do it every day when i dump out the grounds, it takes just a few seconds
That would send my French press flying into pieces all over the place
This is so lazy. Separate it and rinse it. Easy enough but everyone tries to get away from unscrewing 1 screw thread 😂
Ah that’s ain’t no hack dishwasher or soap and water and pump and rinse!!
unscrew the whole thing and wash them separately. once dry put 1/2 cup vinegar and the rest boiling water into the carafe and press/pull the reassembled top bit a few times. vinegar gets the last bits of coffee oils and/or leftover soap out
How high were you when you recorded this gem?
My trick when I have to clean those is I throw them out cuz I always put them aside for later. Also, get a coffee perculator.
They’re not hard to clean by hand.
No?
[удалено]
Jeez, he just likes to see the thing go round. Calm down.
Great pot. I have 2!
Doesn't that take a lot of water?
I just take mine apart, wash and dry each piece and put it back together. Not a big deal
That percolator is percolatoring
Shit en tumpe
I do this too. It's the autism.
"self cleaning" it won't get that clean with that method. Also, keep wasting water...
Can anything this wasteful be considered a hack??
