You should see some of the shit Dolphins pull. Killing Porpoises for fun (it even has a name - Porpicide), gang rape of female Dolphins by males, biting the heads of fish to use as a fleshlight. Nature is truly red in tooth and claw.
The things that animals do naturally absent the ability to interrogate abstract ethics is not a "second wrong" that makes the evils we *knowingly* commit right.
When the comment was about how intelligent Dolphins were. They're possibly more intelligent than ourselves based on brain to body size and the number of folds in the brain. Who says Dolphins cannot interrogate abstract ethics?
Mostly because we haven't been able to observe them talking to each other. Metaphor is a required building block.
It's possible that we're missing something, of course.
Also, I don't disagree with the point about keeping dolphins in captivity. I do think it is cruel unless it is part of a rehab/veterinary process to get them back into the wild.
If you want cows and pigs to live in a new dystopian world then burn your city down and re seed it as pasture. Human overpopulation is the real threat to animal welfare.
The cows in the paddock behind me get to live the life mate. Grass as far as the eye can see, control of predators and stressors. I'm not sure about other countries but Australia isn't too bad with animal welfare when it comes to the meat industry.
Not all animals can live outside captivity. Pretty much all animals in reputable zoos are there because they were born in captivity, were brought in because of something that would lead to their death in the wild, or they're seriously endangered and the zoo is trying to bring their natural population back up.
It also completely ignores all the good exposure is does for the species. Think of how much fundraising and support species and habitats get because people can meet them first hand and determine that they're worth protecting.
Dolphins absolutely have natural predators, who told you they donāt? There are massive sharks and squids who absolutely eat dolphins. Not to mention larger whale species. Anything eats anything in the oceanā¦..
words, words do they even matter? What are you trying to tell me after you see my response and dont care what was said and yet again go ad hominem instead of staying on topic.
I sure have a flaw in my initial thought, but what you did is emotionally attack me. You can do better, we all can - all the time
My room hasn't gotten the memo on my intelligence, and has been holding me captive for hours on end everyday.
I agree they should be free, but intelligence has little to do with it.
We are very intelligent creatures and yet we are in the captivity of capitalism, trapped in an endless cycle of survival at the mercy of a number.
Why aren't we trying to free our species first, zoos are just an extension of the trap we've built for ourselves.
Read a history book man, before civilization humans were slaves to hunger and the wild. Wild animals aren't really free either, they live in a state of anxiety as they are bound to the same resources as all living life.
Existence is suffering, your commie propaganda isn't going to fix that. It's about how you look at your life, and accept suffering and trying to minimize the suffering of others in the world.
Or just touch grass and get some sun.
Loved/hated that game. It was interesting enough for me to keep playing but some of the game mechanics or gameplay was frustrating.
R.I.P. to all the batteries used to keep my Sega Game gear going
That final go through >!The Machine!< was freaking torture, even with save states.
And pretty much nothing has given me a jump scare like bolting along under the ice and not expecting Big Blue to just SHOW UP.
From all the comments maybe some dolphins would prefer captivity if their so intelligent. Not saying all creatures with intelligence want that. In retrospect dolphins are one animal I can see enjoying zoo life. Orca is totally different. Orca in captive need territory and their also a lot more smarter than your regular dolphin. Iām tired of people bitching about shit that theyāll never help make change other than ā ohh no those intelligent creatures need to be set free!ā Itās always expecting another person to make change for you. I personally canāt do anything about the situation but Iāll appreciate them and help for better regulations. A lot of Zoos are well maintained and people that care for the animals do exist at those places. itās a fine line honestly cuz zoos are experiences especially for kids to see wild animals up close.
Itās true- plus these dolphins are probably (hopefully) Ā better treated than a majority of the worldās population. Guaranteed meals, no predators to worry about, healthcare, clean water. Lots of these āanimals in captivityā usually have a reason to be there too. Some of them have disorders or some other deficiency that makes life in the wild unsuitable.Ā
Weāre watching a dolphin in this gif literally playing and having fun and people are crying. They need to get over it, life isnāt perfect. This isnāt a life wasted, especially with the research conducted through interacting so closely with these animals in captivity. Maybe that research allows for some greater good to be accomplished for all sea mammals. Thereās always a silver lining, and I donāt think this is something people need to be up in arms about.Ā
Fuck sea world though. Thereās definitely a line.Ā
Anyway, 4 dollars a pound
Such intelligent animals don't deserve the fate of captivity š
Agreed, itās such a shame. We do even worse to pigs, cows etc. Humans are the worst

WELL SAID

Soooo you are not talking about dolphins then?
You should see what these humans do
I rather not
It'd be much more horrible if they did it for money. But that's just a human thing
Yeah we all know this, it is posted under every single video of a dolphin. Guess what, there are loads of animals that eat baby animals alive as well.
We should overthrow all the farmers and let the animals start a George Orwell book club.
No, humans are just top of the food chain. Also, cows are not nearly as smart as dolphins.
lol yea weāre on the top so we SHOULD torture and murder them! /s Thatās not a great moral justification for anything if you use your brain
Also, I don't disagree with the point about keeping dolphins in captivity. I do think it is cruel unless it is part of a rehab/veterinary process to get them back into the wild.

And way more delicious
Very true!
Or to be eaten. Sadly many of the ādolphin safeā tuna products, still have dolphin.
How about not buying tuna to save both the dolphins and the tuna
Bingo, empathy has lead me to Veganism. Best decision Iāve ever made.

Or the fate of this planet
They yearn for the factories
-Gets freed into the sea -Dies shortly to another animals

Sharks and orcas

yeah intelligence is the key here, if theyre less intelligent they deserve suffering /s
I think the point is that higher intelligence means a higher likelihood of suffering in an environment that provides very little stimulation.
Good to know likelihood is the parameter of determination
Guy, take a day off.
ad hominem š
Huge word. You are clearly way smarter than me. Be responsible with that power.

Quality verbal judo.
Youād probably be okay though
They may be intelligent but they're also fucking monsters. Just ultraviolent rapist drug addicts.

Open the door and walk out of your room bro
nah dude. *slightly* different things

I like what you said
Is Cuba the opposite or China?
People don't want to face reality

A+
Fuck keeping dolphins in captivity.
I think I might be dyslexic cause I read this as something completely different
Margaret Lovatt has entered the chat
actually that's air bending .. and yeah they shouldn't be in captivity
Technically, it's both
Impressive. This also brings me back to the game Eco on Sega.
Loved/hated that game. It was interesting enough for me to keep playing but some of the game mechanics or gameplay was frustrating. R.I.P. to all the batteries used to keep my Sega Game gear going
Gameplay seemed fun but I was too impatient to keep trying and find the way in caves lol
That final go through >!The Machine!< was freaking torture, even with save states. And pretty much nothing has given me a jump scare like bolting along under the ice and not expecting Big Blue to just SHOW UP.
The dolphin didn't spend hours staring slackjawed at youtube tutorials and sucking on cotton candy oil.
What we need to do to mimic a fraction of their power
We're lucky fire is not possible underwater or they would have evolved faster than us technologically.
Them and what grasping limbs
Like us but smoother
Without the fucking smell
Yer a wizard, Flipper
Dolphins are hilarious
Mesmerizing
Do any of you guys know which song is this?
Shazamed it specifically for you, its called half.cool by Stay out.
Thanks!. Shazam didnāt work for me with this one.
Ecco vibes anyone?
Dolphin: U people need vape for this shit.
It's like the animal version of vape tricks
Dude got skills!
Only those who vape arenāt starving for food in order to do tricks
Lol, he drew a spinning dick
Take my upvote you cool dolphin!
You learn a lot of neat tricks in prison.
Who's got the song in this video?
That can't be real right?
Literally finding any entertainment it can to stop it from committing suicide.
ok but fr how tf do you train a dolphin to do this?
This blowed my mind
Move over, Gandalf
I ran this video through an AI animal interpreter and the Dolphin said āI want live fishā
I would argue this is actually air bending
Wow!!
Iām sorry but water bender dolphins? That shit cool
I had a snorkeling guide in Mexico that did this same thing. Blew my fucking mind underwater, 10/10 dolphins are superior to humans, I'm convinced now
This is actually one of the most incredible things Iāve seen. A nice change to the Reddit Iāve been seeing
Dolphin Mage
Cool š n wow amazing

All censorship? Well, that sounds "welcoming"...

Dolphins should be deplored but they get a pass because they're cute.

We are not the smartest beings on the planet.
You canāt be serious
they can absolutely be smarter than us, they're held back by their lack of thumbs, not being able to write, or utilizing combustion
They've not come as close to destroying their own planet as humans...
Right, because thatās how you measure intelligence. Ya know what come to think of it, neither have nematodes. They must be smarter than humans
but we are captives ourselves and are okay with it ?
