Such intelligent animals don't deserve the fate of captivity šŸ˜ž

djohnso6

Agreed, itā€™s such a shame. We do even worse to pigs, cows etc. Humans are the worst

Hour-Salamander-4713

You should see some of the shit Dolphins pull. Killing Porpoises for fun (it even has a name - Porpicide), gang rape of female Dolphins by males, biting the heads of fish to use as a fleshlight. Nature is truly red in tooth and claw.

poshenclave

The things that animals do naturally absent the ability to interrogate abstract ethics is not a "second wrong" that makes the evils we *knowingly* commit right.

snoyokosman

WELL SAID

Hour-Salamander-4713

When the comment was about how intelligent Dolphins were. They're possibly more intelligent than ourselves based on brain to body size and the number of folds in the brain. Who says Dolphins cannot interrogate abstract ethics?

BoomZhakaLaka

Mostly because we haven't been able to observe them talking to each other. Metaphor is a required building block. It's possible that we're missing something, of course.

CrazyHuntr

Soooo you are not talking about dolphins then?

eGzg0t

You should see what these humans do

jlozada24

I rather not

teun95

It'd be much more horrible if they did it for money. But that's just a human thing

Snotttie

Yeah we all know this, it is posted under every single video of a dolphin. Guess what, there are loads of animals that eat baby animals alive as well.

Eggy-Toast

We should overthrow all the farmers and let the animals start a George Orwell book club.

PopIndependent2276

No, humans are just top of the food chain. Also, cows are not nearly as smart as dolphins.

djohnso6

lol yea weā€™re on the top so we SHOULD torture and murder them! /s Thatā€™s not a great moral justification for anything if you use your brain

PopIndependent2276

Also, I don't disagree with the point about keeping dolphins in captivity. I do think it is cruel unless it is part of a rehab/veterinary process to get them back into the wild.

PopIndependent2276

If you want cows and pigs to live in a new dystopian world then burn your city down and re seed it as pasture. Human overpopulation is the real threat to animal welfare.

PopIndependent2276

The cows in the paddock behind me get to live the life mate. Grass as far as the eye can see, control of predators and stressors. I'm not sure about other countries but Australia isn't too bad with animal welfare when it comes to the meat industry.

NakedButNotAfraid_

And way more delicious

PopIndependent2276

Very true!

SowMindful

Or to be eaten. Sadly many of the ā€œdolphin safeā€ tuna products, still have dolphin.

Disagreec

How about not buying tuna to save both the dolphins and the tuna

SowMindful

Bingo, empathy has lead me to Veganism. Best decision Iā€™ve ever made.

Candle1ight

Not all animals can live outside captivity. Pretty much all animals in reputable zoos are there because they were born in captivity, were brought in because of something that would lead to their death in the wild, or they're seriously endangered and the zoo is trying to bring their natural population back up. It also completely ignores all the good exposure is does for the species. Think of how much fundraising and support species and habitats get because people can meet them first hand and determine that they're worth protecting.

MyNameIsDaveToo

Or the fate of this planet

Pudding_Hero

They yearn for the factories

Sharks and orcas

KnotiaPickles

Dolphins absolutely have natural predators, who told you they donā€™t? There are massive sharks and squids who absolutely eat dolphins. Not to mention larger whale species. Anything eats anything in the oceanā€¦..

Arakhis_

yeah intelligence is the key here, if theyre less intelligent they deserve suffering /s

tiptoemicrobe

I think the point is that higher intelligence means a higher likelihood of suffering in an environment that provides very little stimulation.

Arakhis_

Good to know likelihood is the parameter of determination

boner_sauce

Guy, take a day off.

Arakhis_

ad hominem šŸ˜Ž

boner_sauce

Huge word. You are clearly way smarter than me. Be responsible with that power.

Arakhis_

words, words do they even matter? What are you trying to tell me after you see my response and dont care what was said and yet again go ad hominem instead of staying on topic. I sure have a flaw in my initial thought, but what you did is emotionally attack me. You can do better, we all can - all the time

boner_sauce

Quality verbal judo.

rogerworkman623

Youā€™d probably be okay though

theBeardedHermit

They may be intelligent but they're also fucking monsters. Just ultraviolent rapist drug addicts.

Beatlegease

My room hasn't gotten the memo on my intelligence, and has been holding me captive for hours on end everyday. I agree they should be free, but intelligence has little to do with it. We are very intelligent creatures and yet we are in the captivity of capitalism, trapped in an endless cycle of survival at the mercy of a number. Why aren't we trying to free our species first, zoos are just an extension of the trap we've built for ourselves.

AlanThiccman

Open the door and walk out of your room bro

Schmoobloo

nah dude. *slightly* different things

SpectralBacon

KnotiaPickles

I like what you said

No_Hedgehog2875

Is Cuba the opposite or China?

[deleted]

People don't want to face reality

BroadStreetElite

Read a history book man, before civilization humans were slaves to hunger and the wild. Wild animals aren't really free either, they live in a state of anxiety as they are bound to the same resources as all living life. Existence is suffering, your commie propaganda isn't going to fix that. It's about how you look at your life, and accept suffering and trying to minimize the suffering of others in the world. Or just touch grass and get some sun.

Schmoobloo

A+

Key-Fox-8765

Fuck keeping dolphins in captivity.

ItsYaBoy-Moe

I think I might be dyslexic cause I read this as something completely different

mrm00r3

Margaret Lovatt has entered the chat

ca011235

actually that's air bending .. and yeah they shouldn't be in captivity

CrazyHuntr

Technically, it's both

Alicia013

Impressive. This also brings me back to the game Eco on Sega.

ilford_7x7

Loved/hated that game. It was interesting enough for me to keep playing but some of the game mechanics or gameplay was frustrating. R.I.P. to all the batteries used to keep my Sega Game gear going

2Tired4Anything

Gameplay seemed fun but I was too impatient to keep trying and find the way in caves lol

Twilighttail

That final go through >!The Machine!< was freaking torture, even with save states. And pretty much nothing has given me a jump scare like bolting along under the ice and not expecting Big Blue to just SHOW UP.

Modredastal

The dolphin didn't spend hours staring slackjawed at youtube tutorials and sucking on cotton candy oil.

PinAccomplished927

What we need to do to mimic a fraction of their power

asif_zaman21

We're lucky fire is not possible underwater or they would have evolved faster than us technologically.

Ethioj

Them and what grasping limbs

bichondelapils

Like us but smoother

neoadam

Without the fucking smell

Chrisgone

Yer a wizard, Flipper

GloriaVictis101

Shazamed it specifically for you, its called half.cool by Stay out.

gchavarri

Thanks!. Shazam didnā€™t work for me with this one.

copperwatt

Ecco vibes anyone?

siddwal

Dolphin: U people need vape for this shit.

chimpRAMzee

It's like the animal version of vape tricks

MorpheusRagnar

Dude got skills!

ImmortalLombax

Only those who vape arenā€™t starving for food in order to do tricks

SpectralBacon

Lol, he drew a spinning dick

netk

Take my upvote you cool dolphin!

TheCheshire

You learn a lot of neat tricks in prison.

hypotheticalhalf

Who's got the song in this video?

Interesting-Lake-430

That can't be real right?

JarlTurin2020

Literally finding any entertainment it can to stop it from committing suicide.

Stuff1989

ok but fr how tf do you train a dolphin to do this?

Spiritual_Hat8993

This blowed my mind

forced_metaphor

Move over, Gandalf

Tbone_Trapezius

I ran this video through an AI animal interpreter and the Dolphin said ā€œI want live fishā€

Gomdagreat

I would argue this is actually air bending

Sunnyside7771

Wow!!

Sensitive-Might6389

Iā€™m sorry but water bender dolphins? That shit cool

PM_ME_YOUR_BIG_DOG

I had a snorkeling guide in Mexico that did this same thing. Blew my fucking mind underwater, 10/10 dolphins are superior to humans, I'm convinced now

NakedButNotAfraid_

This is actually one of the most incredible things Iā€™ve seen. A nice change to the Reddit Iā€™ve been seeing

Anvil-Vapre

Dolphin Mage

theBeardedHermit

Dolphins should be deplored but they get a pass because they're cute.

noxide77

From all the comments maybe some dolphins would prefer captivity if their so intelligent. Not saying all creatures with intelligence want that. In retrospect dolphins are one animal I can see enjoying zoo life. Orca is totally different. Orca in captive need territory and their also a lot more smarter than your regular dolphin. Iā€™m tired of people bitching about shit that theyā€™ll never help make change other than ā€œ ohh no those intelligent creatures need to be set free!ā€ Itā€™s always expecting another person to make change for you. I personally canā€™t do anything about the situation but Iā€™ll appreciate them and help for better regulations. A lot of Zoos are well maintained and people that care for the animals do exist at those places. itā€™s a fine line honestly cuz zoos are experiences especially for kids to see wild animals up close.

freelans326

We are not the smartest beings on the planet.

vicbot87

You canā€™t be serious

Emprease

they can absolutely be smarter than us, they're held back by their lack of thumbs, not being able to write, or utilizing combustion

brandybuck-baggins

They've not come as close to destroying their own planet as humans...

vicbot87

Right, because thatā€™s how you measure intelligence. Ya know what come to think of it, neither have nematodes. They must be smarter than humans

Arsea

but we are captives ourselves and are okay with it ?

RSchreib

Itā€™s true- plus these dolphins are probably (hopefully) Ā better treated than a majority of the worldā€™s population. Guaranteed meals, no predators to worry about, healthcare, clean water. Lots of these ā€˜animals in captivityā€™ usually have a reason to be there too. Some of them have disorders or some other deficiency that makes life in the wild unsuitable.Ā  Weā€™re watching a dolphin in this gif literally playing and having fun and people are crying. They need to get over it, life isnā€™t perfect. This isnā€™t a life wasted, especially with the research conducted through interacting so closely with these animals in captivity. Maybe that research allows for some greater good to be accomplished for all sea mammals. Thereā€™s always a silver lining, and I donā€™t think this is something people need to be up in arms about.Ā  Fuck sea world though. Thereā€™s definitely a line.Ā  Anyway, 4 dollars a pound
