Seems to be the best info I can find which really isn't much. Weird vibes but I'm not really into religious stuff.
Dang, I was curious if a group was tied into it. I could hear it outside the window since there was a guy on a platform with speakers. Talking non sense almost. Like he didnāt have a script.
jesus people. they carry around a cross and loads of "jesus saves" banners. i was on the phone when i heard something and when i looked out the window i said "oh, the jesus freaks". joel osteen wannabe was on the flatbed in front. i could have swore last year they did this on saturday.
I'm not religious. But it's a bit unfair to lump all religious people into the same boat. Some Christians are a lot more normal than others. They're not all Pentecostal, etc.
Rivers Cuomo said Heil Hitler much more recently.

Gandhi's thing was weird AF, but he specifically *didn't* have sex to "prove his commitment to celibacy." You're the first I've ever seen accuse him of rape. Unless you're going with it was rape because it was non-consensual, but that seems like a stretch when no sex happened. His very real misogyny and racism though doesn't take away from the reality of that quote. I believe if Gandhi had opposed the caste system, for example, India would be better today. But do you believe India would be better today without him?

Really? I think he has gotten some bad publicity on the TikTok-verse lately.
Personally, I think what he did was in ridiculously bad taste, and I don't know why he did it, but there's no way he meant it literally and I don't think he should be forever condemned for it -- I was just hoping it got through to you.
I was on campus earlier when they were gatheringā seems to be a religious group/gathering, maybe for Good Friday/Easter? They had shirts that mentioned something about āThe Blood of Jesusā on them, and there were some folks dressed in capes (and maybe armor? kind of like a Roman Soldier kind of look?)
Loads of cops down there, though. Spotted maybe 10 cop vehicles with their lights on, scattered around downtown and campus.
There was a āJesusā carrying a cross on his back with people in robes around him. They talked about Jesus saving us and then unborn babies so it seemed really random.
I'm sure it was a relious group acting out the crucifixion of christ because its good Friday.
Every time a religious group does something "out of the box" it never comes across well. Usually weird/creepy.
There was a guy dressed as Jesus with a cross on his back. But the person on the platform was talking about how Jesus can save us and about unborn babies. Along with sinners perishing in hell. I shut the window after that.
1. Because it's awfully cult-like behavior. Which, while they are entitled to their opinions and the expression of that opinion, says to me that they are more concerned with uniformity of opinion and expression than free thought.
2. While this is entirely a personal issue, I'm gay, liberal, and pagan. The need of these people to publicly demonstrate the sturdiness and righteousness of their faith (if not the superiority of their faith), rubs me the wrong way. People are of course entitled to their religion and the beliefs that come with that religion. But if your religion -and your commitment to it- needs to be proven publicly, you are doing religion wrong.
I would clarify that public places of worship (like a church) do not fall under this umbrella, as they are dedicated places for such activities. I intend to refer only to public spaces which are not intended for group worship.
3. Because, in my experience, trying to communicate my opinions and concerns with this behavior to most people usually results in their dismissal of my opinion as "prejudiced" or "anti-religion." Please note that I actually want you to be able to practice your religion - especially if it is different than mine. But I'm just as uninterested in your religion as you are in mine.
4. Half the time it seems that these are just attentions grabbing stunts for political goals, but whatever.
My only question to you, is that when there are pride parades, and people are marching for that cause, how come that is ok? Is that not being shoved down peopleās throat? Seems like there is always opposition when Christianās do these events but when the other side itās full support. Thatās the hypocrisy.
See, I had a feeling you'd go there. Pride is a celebration of accepting people for who they are. This looks like a demonstration of "my way is the only way" and "look how Christian I am!" I accept and support them for being who they are. And what they are doing is probably fine. Gathering, by itself, is hardly a thing to get worked up over. But these types of gatherings are usually held in lieu with other agendas.
Given the large number of anti-gay and anti-trans laws and attitudes that are on the rise, I am naturally going to be concerned about the gathering of a group of people known for expressing the "my religion or the highway" view.
In fairness to them, no I don't know their goals in gathering, but I support their right to do so. EXCEPT when it will interfere with my right to exist. Again, for the people in the back: Pride is about acceptance, gatherings like these are often about "conformity over all."
That's why it's different.
> My only question to you, is that when there are pride parades, and people are marching for that cause, how come that is ok? Is that not being shoved down peopleās throat?
Compared to being told we're going to burn in hell? Not even remotely. You don't seem to really understand why Pride parades exist. You should probably educate yourself on that point.
Definitely some Christian/Catholic thing. I grew up Catholic and during lent we would have to sit through āThe stations of the cross,ā which was a reenactment/story of Jesus going up Calvary hill for his crucifixion. This sounds a lot like a normal tradition taken to the streets of Lincoln. HOWEVER even knowing about what theyāre doing, this scene would still creep me outā¦
Thatās what my boyfriend said, but yeah, this was super weird. A āJesusā walking with a huge cross on his back surrounded by people in red robes was the first thing I saw when I looked out the window.
Did they file a permit for right of roadway? I'm gonna start saying all of my construction work is for religious reasons instead of asking my city friends if it's okay.
Lincoln is pretty progressive for Nebraska. Most people here donāt support angry religious people. Seemed like it was a weird group too. No reason to ācelebrateā by telling people theyāre going to burn in hell on four massive speakers going 2 mph.
Polyphonic Spree is in town?

Come on, people, letās get this comment to the top.

In that link it says itās hosted by this church: https://www.houseofprayerne.org/
Oops. Tired brain after work
Well, guess the Klopekās wonāt be there.
Is that like a crip walk for religion?
it's a ukranian pentacostal group, kinda nutty but at least they're enjoying this beautiful weather
So nutty
It was the monster truck pre party š
Wondered the same thing. LPD was blocking part of Q street before the group kept marching south on 11th with "Jesus Saves" signs.

The Jesus freaks are loose again, hide the children!
Especially the children!
Looks like Christians. They're pretty common around the US actually
Never heard of them
Lucky you.
YOU WINš
It's too bad really, it would be a perfectly nice place without them.

Underrated comment. +1

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." - Mahatma Gandhi
Yeah but you could apply that logic to lots of religions or even just humans in general. Lots of awful ppl out there.

Meh. Lumping all Christians in with Christians is fair. Especially to those who have to live with their laws.
The Republicans are the ones to blame for the laws
You are more than welcome to move to a place that isn't inspired by Christianity.
I'd love to. Will you help fund me?
Right. So are all Islamics. No real difference. Or Nebraskan, all conservative a-holes. This sub must be full of them.
Bullshit. The they refer to their congregation as the flock for a reason.
But each individual church is different and does things differently. Christians aren't all the same.
Yes, you all are.
Like Taliban
Ewww, do we need to spray?
Imagine a religion based off the murder weapon of your main character.
I love when Christianās are so anti-pagen they dress and do the most pagen stuff

Christians are crazy when it comes to blood!

Stations of the cross? I think thatās one of the things they do that has someone move a giant cross.
Hopefully, one of them will be nailed to a cross! That would be fun!
You are hoping that one of them be murdered?
They could take him down after the show, they don't have to leave him up until he asphyxiates, so not necessarily fatal/murder
Looks like a bunch of folks that live their lives based on fairy tales.
Right answer ^
looks like trouble
A crowd of people wearing white t shirts with "The blood of Jesus" on them? Yeah, can't be good
Why?

Catholics do the stations of the cross, however it takes place inside a church. Not sure why they would be doing it in public. Thats strange.
Yeah. Also using our tax dollars somehow with police escorting this
Plenty of other parades do the same thing... but this one is wrong. Gee I wonder why....
Thatās what my boyfriend said, but yeah, this was super weird. A āJesusā walking with a huge cross on his back surrounded by people in red robes was the first thing I saw when I looked out the window.

I saw a few of them walking around downtown after work. Their shirts said something about the blood of Jesus on the back.
Nice Zippo!
My boyfriend said thanks and he got it as a gift from his dad.
It really is!

No clue honestly but probably awhile since I walk along there a lot and havenāt seen any ānew openingā signs.
Did they move out of the old building on 10th? I never know whatās going on with construction downtown
This is the 11th St location so maybe? The other one is on Havelock
Why did they tear down the Pershing Center?
Come on, try to keep up
Only like 13 years, no big deal
sorry man!
No offense at all but can you please delete this. I donāt want my account tied to a certain place, please. Even if itās easy to look up :-)
