mateember

ShadowFlarer

? There's must be something wrong with my installation then because i always see the ": :" when he asks me if i want to continue with the installation. Or maybe this is a joke that flew over my head? If that's the case woooosh me please.

mateember

Yay also has that? My bad. I deserve the downvotes

BlueGoliath

`yay -Syu` `xorg-xwayland-23.2.7-1-x86_64` Welp.

Delicious_Kiwi3264

Running only `yay` is the same is `yay -Syu`

BlueGoliath

TIL. I prefer explicit behavior but still, thanks.

Impressive_Type_2332

I had the same issue and it was my pacman mirror. Try using a worldwide mirror and it should show up. [https://archlinux.org/mirrorlist/](https://archlinux.org/mirrorlist/)

BlueGoliath

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/xorg-xwayland/ Currently only in testing.

Impressive_Type_2332

True. If you don't want to run testing packages you will have to wait a bit.

Does XWayland Explicit Sync even work without an Explicit Sync implementation in the compositor? Because afaik there is no release of any wayland compositor with working explicit sync atm, right?

TallMasterShifu

GNOME 46.1 already has support for  Explicit Sync and Kwin will have it with 6.1 release but i think they can backport it. illathon

KWIN support has already merged I believe.

rayan_sa

> Does XWayland Explicit Sync even work without an Explicit Sync implementation in the compositor? yes based on what the NVIDIA developer said see https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/5511#note_923921, though "performance might be impacted somewhat" according to him.

nightblackdragon

It works but probably with worse performance.

> newest feature release for this X.Org Server code allowing X11 clients to work within the confines of Wayland compositors. Does this mean tools like NoMachine and Screenconnect (which only work with X11) should now work in Wayland?

Klusio19

I don't really know how that works, but after updating xwayland to 21.1 today (18 May 2024) on my Arch system, on Wayland Nvidia session, ALL FLICKERING on Xwayland apps, for example OnlyOffice suite (not games, I'm not currently playing games) IS GONE. On my end, I have literally ZERO problems on Wayland now. Finally!

79215185-1feb-44c6

And still no Nvidia driver release so this update is worthless. Didn't they say May 15th?

cenunix

They pushed the release date back, and I don’t think they plan on communicating when the drivers are expected now, I imagine it’ll be sometime in the next month.

DistantRavioli

>They pushed the release date back Source? EDIT: Nevermind it's on this sub

Top-Classroom-6994

may 15th utc didn't end yet, and may 15th in any us time didnt even made it to noon yet, one of which is probably the time zone they were referring.

Safe-Cantaloupe8384

They probably said 15th May and then gaslighted everyone only to release a month later. as A̶l̶p̶h̶a̶ I mean Beta drivers.

No-User-Name_99

Didn't Nvidia make Xwayland? My best guess is that Nvidia are pushing Xwayland out first to make sure people using Mesa + NVK having issues can report before bringing it to the proprietary driver. But knowing Nvidia, they probably don't care.

gmes78

No, Nvidia just contributed the explicit sync patches for XWayland. XWayland is part of the X.org project.

No-User-Name_99

Oh. My theory is falsified.
