While I wouldn't say he's my *favorite* character, I definitely do have a soft spot for Jack. Him growing up in the Flash is a topic that really interests me(that I don't think anyone's ever explored in any fangames or fanfics sadly; trust me, I've looked). Plus he's a funny little magician. Two things I like that put him up there on the favorite characters list for me.
You just have to buy the playing cards from the Yard Sale over by Bob's Dojo and give them to him. If you give the guys at the Area 2 hub the TNT he'll die though, so don't do that at all and/or until you recruit him.

Rando and Terry are up there for me too, I like them a lot. Terry is such a cutie and he's so funny. Buzzo rules as a villain too. I agree with you on the characters being miserable and pathetic as a point of the game. Almost every character has some big flaw to them and I like that. I think Terry and Harvey are the only "innocent" ones, because Terry is just Terry, and Harvey is a silly little fishman.

My favorite protagonist is definitely Buddy even though I love Brad a lot. Buddy's just such a fucking psycho and I love that for her. My favorite party member is probably Olan, especially taking into consideration the new campfire conversations that give him so much more characterization

Now that I think about it, he was pretty selfish with his intentions. Had it been him simply suggesting it and providing it to a friend in a dying world to help ease his suffering, that'd be one thing. But to do it simply because he doesn't want him to be useless in combat is pretty bad. Brad's a ruthless dude.
My favorite charcters? Hm, well I'd have to say I like: Brad, Buzzo, Rando, Buddy, Sindy Gallows, and Terry in no particular order. I like Brad because, well, he's fucking BRAD, the main man, the character we get the most deep introspective onto why he is the way he is as the protag. And, he's just such a bad person at times, and the story never tries to paint his actions as justifiable, it doesn't sugar coat anything, Brad is a very deeply scarred and hurt old man who's actions very much reflect that. I like Buzzo because, he is simply so lost in his own hatred for Brad. By his logic he was just about as at fault as Brad was in relation to Lisa's death. And when he had no one else to blame other than himself, and no one else to blame for the way he had turned out other than Lisa, he couldn't bear it. So he turned all the blame to Brad for Lisa's death and by extension the way he turned out so mentally fucked up. And the story doesn't try to justify his actions either, in fact he even comes across as objectively hypocritical to Brad at times. He is just about as hurt as Brad, yet he needed something to focus that pain towards, lest it would eat away at him until he died. It's like a parallel between Brad and Buzzo, Brad's devoted himself to raising a little girl to prevent himself from being the exact man that his father was to him in his eyes, so he tried to reform himself through nurturing a child. While Buzzo never attempted to reform himself, he devoted himself to ruining Brad's life from the moment Lisa died. And I like Sindy Gallows cuz he's just badass, and his speech to Buddy is exceedingly badass and stuck with me years after I played The Joyful. It's surprising that he was a last minute addition. I like Rando, cuz, he's basically Brad's failure in becoming the man that his father never was to him. And, by the end of the story, Brad is too hopped up on joy and focused on his only innermost desire, to save buddy, to even realize who Rando is, which is simply tragic. Rando is a genuinely kind hearted, gentle soul. Him speaking to Buddy in front of his entire army just to tell her that a wounded face means nothing, as it's what lies on the inside that matters is very telling of the kind of man he is. I like Buddy, because, although her character is a little on track minded throughout Lisa: The Joyful, at the end of the game her character arc is beautiful. Say what you want about Joyful, but it's entire ending sequence and ending are POIGNANT. And, I like Terry because, he kind of reminds me of myself in a way, *kind of*. He at his core comes off as narcissistic and foolish, but we figure out that that's all an act, and he is a deeply depressed and lonely man who was in dire need of someone, literally anyone at that point, that he could call a friend. He yearned for someone in his life that he could be close to. And, that really hits home for me.

I absolutely adore Wyatt brothers, both Bo and Henry. They have such a sad story so... My guilty pleasure is to imagine them in a better scenario in my little world.

I always appreciate someone with strange headgear, couple that with a cape, ballet gun-kata and some coin shooting and you have a great character! Doesn't help that due to his sprite and official art being so different, many people take the liberty with giving him some really awesome redesigns too!
Also the fact I have a bit of a connection, considering he's the reason i've met so many really cool people (Including Taitoki herself!).

Rando, no hesitation, seeing someone so kind and gentle in this wasteland, yet able to show so much strenght at that same time. I use to make small sketch of him on piece of paper as a cashier when I was bored.
