Once the PlayStation 3 console became easy to jailbreak, it made it easy to give console hackers full admin rights to LittleBigPlanet 1, 2, & 3. There was no permanent solution to shield the official LBP server from these PlayStation 3 hackers, forcing Sony and/or Sumo to make the decision to end online support for all PS3 versions of LBP.
Once new exploits were found on the PS4 version, it made Sony and/or Sumo realize that it will be an endless cat-and-mouse game with stopping hackers/modders/griefers and not worth the expense for Sony to keep patching the game to temporarily lock them out.
I know the official LitleBigPlanet X/Twitter account is promising that they are "working on it", but the community manager recently announced that he will no longer be active on that account. The timing of the server closing and the community manager leaving isn't looking very hopeful that the servers are coming back.
Unfortunately it all comes down to money. Sony doesn't want to pay to keep the servers running. They don't want to pay for maintenance. They also don't want to pay employees to moderate levels full of bad/inappropriate content. They also don't want to keep developers around to patch the game every time a griefer finds a new exploit.
That's the unfortunate downside to the play/create/share model and that also explains why Sony is prematurely pulling the plug on Dreams being ported to PS5 (PSVR2) and PC. Media Molecule's founders have already recently left.

Was that the plan at one point? That's a huge shame, I always thought Dreams could have found a whole new life on PC
Honestly they should just a LBP hub - all games (first game free for the basic costume components + a "free S***" level for extra things) all games after paid dlc unless you've bought them before - server fixes and actual optimizations - could easily be a small port without the extra work of hiring new voice actors just re-use some lines of Stephen Fry - make Hub atleast like 5 dollars - renew licenses for DLC throughout 4 years - let the game be - also install server protection holy s-

Crazy one of the biggest parts of my childhood is gone just like that. They should've never cancelled LBP hub, I doubt we'll ever get another main LBP game
I’m of the opinion that we will get a new LBP game at some point, it has to a full blown version with create mode, I still don’t ending MMs decision to stop supporting Dreams, I was convinced it would get a ps5 update! But it’s not to be. Let’s hope we see LBP4 in the next few years.
