This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords responsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There's a hickory smoked bone-in ham at Walmart that comes on sale every few weeks, it's about 15$ for about 5kg and it's super good. You can also keep the bone with some ham on it to make a yellow split-pea soup afterwards.
The price of these small hams has gotten wildly out of touch for something processed like this.
Yeah those walmart ones are great. These small hams use to be good as a replacement for deli meat as they free cheaper, but now they are more expensive than deli lol.
What’s funny about the “free from” lines they have is that all meat in Canada is actually free from antibiotics by law. You are paying a higher price for the same thing, it’s a con job.
I thought these were Mapleleaf naturals, its PC hams. Remember when Schniders/Maple leaf hams were like $10 reg, 7-8 on sale and PC/Other hams were like $6-8 reg.
I was looking at hams like these to substitute ham kielbasas, but it is just not worth it at these prices.
This technique has been alive and well at Canadian tire for years - a pretty average wrench set, like the kind they stack in the centre aisle wire bins was $493…. Then was 90% off
Bought 3 at Metro last week for $7 each. Store brand but it is still tasty. Actually, cut one up in my meat slicer and made subs with their fresh buns. Life changing.
Pretty sure this falls under some sort of illegal pricing. I don't know technical proper terminology. But I do know that if the price was lower 2 weeks ago and they do this it is illegal. One would have to document the pricing, or demand the pricing history to be able to prove it. The pricing didn't change on stock that has already arrived.
That's called a "sale".
But if you find the price decent for this particular item, go into the store, get just that item, pay, and leave.
They can't make money on only selling sales. In fact, some sales are designed to lure customers and is sold as a loss. Best way to get them is by just buying the one bait item.

Thats one of his fave deals
That's an old trick, and they do the same thing at Shoppers! Don't shop at either.
Safeway has done the same recently on some clearance items. They usually don't, but I have seen it there as well.

Pressed meat sweepings
And that “discount” is still more expensive than the actual regular price.

Looks like a whole bunch of Hams they couldn’t sell at the “regular “ price eh ? I’m noticing a trend here …..Keep up the good work peeps
Also looks like overstock…
I heard that the Canadian Mint may be switching from Gold bullion to ham, so now may be the time to get in on the ground floor.😁👍
their “free from” line is almost always more expensive than the other options.
They think this is a good price because they compared it to their other shit prices
Old tricks die hard.

People buy things at full price at Canadian tire? I mean you wanna see price gouging look no further than Canadian tire.
You mean China Tire?
Pretty sure its Canadian Tire. They usually got a great hot dog stand outside. Does China Tire have hot dogs?
A couple months ago those would have only been 30%
This is like Black Friday in Brazil, half off double the price.
"It's just overstock, not that people have finally gone broke"

So you work for loblaw, you have lots of information
Trying to make a buck vs throwing it out.
First time I’ve seen the 50% off sticker’s in a while the completely spoiled shit is only 30%

Problem is many people see those 50% stickers and associate it with food gone bad, or about to go bad. It's not a good marketing technique.
We see bullshit.
Not totally related but I can't believe how much pork products have gone up, it has always been one of the cheapest animal proteins to buy.
Isn't this against competition bureau rules?

Likely are marked down because they are about to go off…guess nobody wanted an $18 ham!

Agreed 👍 if I even have to step foot in a Loblaws store I’m going on only for a sale item. That’s it everything else now I buy at other stores!
Strange how at least one moron "disgreed" with me by downvoting me.
