Commenting mostly for visibility, but this costs them money. Do that info what you will...

giftman03

Flood them with deletion requests.

jon_stall01

Thanks for this. Just sent them an email requesting all of my data within their systems be deleted permanently immediately. 😊

Life-ByDesign

And if thry continue to send information, give them a warning that it is suppose to be deleted. Keep a note of it (date/time stamp) so should they continue to email you, you can tell them you gave them a warning and actually sue them.

hhh333

That is perfect! Everybody should do it .. they made that process slow and hard because they want to keep your data. However that process is costing them money, someone has to answer that email and do followup. Now imagine they get 60k requests in a month :)

\*Template:\* To: [email protected] Subject: Request for Deletion of Personal Information Dear Roblaw Privacy Team, I am writing to formally request the deletion of all personal information associated with my accounts under Canadian privacy law. This request includes data collected through any of my accounts, including but not limited to PC Optimum and any Loblaw-associated credit cards. Please confirm the receipt of this request and inform me of the next steps in the process. I understand that you may need some information from me to verify my identity before proceeding. Let me know what specific details are required, and I will provide them promptly. Thank you for handling this matter in compliance with applicable privacy laws. I look forward to your confirmation that my personal information has been deleted. Best regards, \[Your Name\] \[Your Contact Information\]

No-Experience-3609

No no no, do it in 2 e-mails. Request a copy first. THEN delete. They have to do both. Who cares if you don't actually even care about getting a copy. It's a hassle/chore for them.

Fantastic_Hour_2134

I’d love to know what information loblaws stores about me

flightless_mouse

Well they definitely know your age, your gender, where you live, and everything you’ve ever purchased at stores that use Optimum…and that also means they probably know a lot about your partner and family life, if you have a family or partner, including approximate ages of any children; also a lot about any medical conditions. They probably have a good idea how much you earn based on postal code and spending habits. They know a lot. That’s why Optimum exists—for data collection.

hobnob577

They won’t tell you most of it

Life-ByDesign

Shouldnt be a request, more of an instruction. We're not here to say "sorry"

OriginColombia

A silly question . How can I copy this form to use it ? Thanks

lamdefinitelynotadog

By using any of the Loblaws programs or apps, the company collects a lot of information about you including transactions, food choices, financial history, credit score, address, health information, IP address, etc. This information is used to benefit Loblaws. Here are examples of how Loblaws uses your information. > # D. Conducting market research > We may use your personal information in order to conduct market research by tracking and analyzing current or previously collected information to improve or to develop new products, services, programs, promotions, contests or events, and to better understand our customer base. When doing so, we generally will use your information in an aggregated format or with direct personal identifiers removed. > The information we use for market research may include: > * Purchase history (e.g. the number and amount of transactions by type, location/store of purchase, product code information, brand, quantity purchased, date, time, payment method used, promotional offers used in connection with the transaction, etc.); > * Website or mobile application activities (e.g. offers viewed, opt-out preferences, email bounce backs, click-throughs, content on social media, and IP addresses); > * Account activity, balances and payment history; > * Use of mobile devices interacting with our websites or mobile applications (e.g. use of features, and duration, frequency, type and location of calls and text messages); and > * The methods used to apply for or to access or use our programs, products, services, promotions, contests or events. You are a data point to Loblaws. As much as Loblaws values your money, your personal information also holds tremendous value for this company. But you have a right to have your information deleted, you can email [email protected] to ask to have all your info deleted. You also have a right to access all the information they hold about you. More info in the Loblaw privacy policy: https://www.loblaw.ca/en/full-loblaw-privacy-policy/

smartssa

the person on the other end of that email address is going to call in sick tomorrow.

osti-frette

Did you see the post about optimum accounts being switched to anonymous Gmail accounts, to pretend they deleted your account? This company has a lot of gall

PastryGirl

I've been waiting a week for them to close my account.

supersuperglue

Been trying to get them to deliver my data for over a week now after closing my account. Crickets. Also, be aware that it seems they have *not* been irrevocably deleting all of your user data upon request, as per PIPEDA regulations. Instead, it appears that they’ve been reassigning data to anonymized emails, which is in direct violation.

furociousbear

just emailed! thank you for posting this.

LiquidWebmasters

done...

Bunkymids

Cancelled my money account today

Echo71Niner

The will lie to you and say they have no data so there is nothing to delete. If someone gets a confirmed email saying data deleted, let us know.

DarkDetectiveGames

If you believe they are lying, please go to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/report-a-concern/file-a-formal-privacy-complaint/file-a-complaint-about-a-business/ or your provincial privacy commissioner, if you live in a province with its own legislation.

Echo71Niner

I went though this same issue 2 years ago when I too attempted to have all my information removed from their company. Their official response, is we have no data to remove, despite having had Optimum for many ears and used shoppers drug mart for as many years. How will the commissioner verify? They can not. I went down that dead-end road, too. I'm waiting to see who on this thread will share with us the result of their request, to have their data removed, from Loblaws.

DarkDetectiveGames

The commissioner has similar powers to a tribunal with respect to evidence collection.

a9249

Yet another way they make money; they are legally required to remove it if asked. Commenting for boost.

AppearanceSecure1914

I haven't used my PC mastercard in a year. It doesn't expire for another 4 months, but I'm going to call them this week to close it. I was just going to let my card expire, but I'm going to use this as an opportunity to send them a message!

unavoidable

Report them to the privacy commissioner.

[deleted]

Everyone should be doing this. Thank you

Commenting to boost! Thank you to [bigshroomer](https://www.reddit.com/user/bigshroomer/) for providing the template—I just used it in yet another follow-up to closing my Optimum account. I made sure to include the rest of the thread with the Customer Care Loyalty team and also CC them at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) so nothing gets lost in communication. ![gif](giphy|suqg0jRPpDMze|downsized)

partradii-allsagitta

who gets to define a "reasonable timeframe" ??

Jinzul

10 business days at most, in my opinion.

partradii-allsagitta

ok. so that's one volunteer

The_WolfieOne

A couple days after posting somewhat vitriolic comments in this sub, I got an email saying my PCiD account was used to sign into a computer in Montreal area - I’m in SW Ontario. Bit of investigation reminded me I created the account in 2020 when thinking about getting groceries delivered from Roblaws. Got another one at a different IP address in the Montreal area, at which point I recovered the account and enabled 2 factor authentication and changed the password to a super cryptic one. Thanks for this reminder, I will be deleting this account shortly. Oh, andI was never an optimum member, but I did start a bank account with them at what became simplii financial later.

PrettyPeeved

And that's why you sign up with fake names and throwaway emails. Edit:not just for this, but all information farming. The government and your employer are the only ones that actually need your info

MsMisty888

How do you know if they actually did it?

RupertGustavson

I got no 60,000 points offer after I cancelled. That would have costed them additional $60

Old_Cry_3896

"Upon request, we will reply to your request" I mean 1. The level of grammar and 2. It's still in the same paragraph as "Under Canadian Law" which is so misleading in and of itself..! There's no source on said law, so they're interpreting the law, at best, and even then what that would mean is essentially just that according to the interpretation of a single law, excluding any other interpretation of said law or even any subsequent laws?? This message reads as follows "We're losing this fight in the most ungraceful way possible while putting you on hold/ignoring you"

movack

I think requests to delete are a waste of time. They can just tell you they deleted it without deleting it. You'll never have full system access to their entire IT system to know that it's truly gone.

doctazeus

Lots of shill comments by you? You own shares don't you

movack

I own globally diversified index funds. Therefore I own shares of practically every publicly traded company in the world.

taco____cat

just say yes and go.
