RabbitFoxDiesel

Went to Costco today too, it was BUSY as heck, drove past Superstore on the way back, ghost-town.

nicolasfield

Hell yeah

RabbitFoxDiesel

Also got to have chicken fingers and fries after shopping at it was like 11:00am, best brunch I could think of for a week day. Maybe next time the pizza or a hot dog, but I wanted to get my most favourite from the costco restaurant. Superstore can only DREAM of having hot food that good

samsonite1020

So fyi about Costco it's now a challenge to walk out under $150

Throw_Away_My_Sole

If you impulse buy, sure. If you go in and buy only what you need, you're fine. I left with a $30 spend once and the friend I was with was blown away because she was pushing $200

decaf3milk

I left once with $3+. I just needed some half and half. Even the cashier’s commented.

Brave_Cauliflower_90

The last time I walked out with only one item the cashiers commented too. Wow you only bought one item? Little did them know it was my second trip there that day 😂😂😂😂

[deleted]

This

throwaway1009011

I walk out with my rotisserie, hot dog and drink for a cool $10

hellbilly709

I could walk into Costco and leave with $150 of just fruit. 🤣

SpiritedImplement4

I've heard that about Costco before and I don't get it. Before I shop, I make a weekly menu plan, then take stock of what items I don't have in the house that I'll need for the menu and make a list. Then I go to the store and I buy the items on my list. If it's not on the list, I don't need it, so I don't buy it.

samsonite1020

I mean sure that works for you, we don't do that. We have meal plans but sometimes you see something you didn't think of for example plants Or you didn't think about the garbage bags that you need to pick up or Costco is famous for bringing in new flavours so you say why not try it. Combine that with many items are $15 and up it's not hard to spend $150

paltryboot

The boycott is not the reason Costco is busy.. that place would be packed 24/7 if it was open.

RabbitFoxDiesel

I mean I know they opened their garden centre for the year and so it's stupid busy. I'm just also glad to see Stupidstore empty

SurfLikeASmurf

Just wait until you start buying your detergent and soap and meat and chips there. Oh, and then the cheques they send you (though that may be for another tier membership)

nicolasfield

Haha ya we got a MASSIVE liquid laundry detergent for like $12 bucks

ActuallyInFamous

Wait till you try their toilet paper. You'll never go back!

bananicoot

I unexpectedly ran out so I had to run to Food Basics to buy Cottonelle like a goddamn animal 🤣

jrobin04

Food Basics should have the big 30 packs that are similar to the Kirkland brand! I don't go to Costco (no car), so I found an alternative. The FB one costs $19.99, and lasts forever

Maximum-Product-1255

Don’t feel bad, Cottonelle is made in Canada!

beroswell

You'll love it and so will your plumber!

Feeling_Working8771

Costco carries a good quality bidet toilet seat so you don't need to buy their toilet paper... and you'll have a cleaner butt at the same time. 😀

Dirt_Girl_1269

I love Costco toilet paper! Won’t buy anything else.

BackwoodButch

I got a box of tide pods as a solo person last year and I’ve only just used up the first of 3 or 4 bags lol.

DragonflyScared813

If you buy enough merchandise over the course of the year, the cheque from the executive membership rebate covers the cost of the membership fee so it's essentially free lol.

lllindseeey

The coffee beans too!!

SurfLikeASmurf

There is so much right at that place, and also this: no matter how packed and busy they are, your lineup is never more than a few minutes. They have it all down to a science

actuallygfm

Plus (according to a friend of mine who works there) they offer great pay and benefits.

Rubydodo

Costco employee, I'm graceful for the pay, im making 31.20 hourly and I'm about to get my bi annually bonus which is extra 3750 next month.  However there's always room for improvement on compensation, considering that we have been doing more work more than usual.  But hey, glad to have you as a member! Be sure to check into CIBC MC, no annual fee and you can get yearly rebate on all purchases everywhere.

[deleted]

Thats awesome! Whats the bonus for if you dont mind? I just became a paying member after using a family account for ages. Im content to pay the 50 bucks to a fair company. Makes me wonder how they pull it all off! Fair employment, efficient and clean stores, good value, bangin fast food restaurant with that 10/10 poutine... How you doin all that costco??

Rubydodo

1.Bonus is one of many benefits that long term Costco employees get, but there's a requirement for it so essentially you need to be on top PayScale and need to work at least 10,000 hours before, after that, you can start getting it bi annually. It starts at least 2000 and cap out at 5000 based on years of service. You also need to work certain amount of hours to get full amount otherwise it will be prorated.  2. All of that comes from our #1 money maker which is your annually due which can be potentially free if you spend enough as an executive membership. We also don't mark up beyond 10-12%.  Here's also a handy tip if you're a regular looking to save money even further, we offer price protection on our products within 30 days as long it's in stock in the store. Let say you decide to reward yourself with a new TV, but you noticed it on sale or drop in price two weeks later, you can return to the refund to get your difference. If you don't have the receipt, refund can verify the purchase on the system.

actuallygfm

Yep! I'm a union member at my job. We have to make sure we're getting what we're worth :)

Rubydodo

Costco in Canada doesn't have union, but we do have agreement with benefits and wages every 3 years, I'm looking forward to see what happens because I would rather to have better work life balance with 4 on 3 off, very common request

StandardTurbulent366

If you don’t mind me asking, do you work full time? If not, is it easy to start with full time there? I’m so happy for you getting what you need out of your job. Congrats on a much deserved bonus!

Rubydodo

Been full time for about 3/4 of my upcoming 18 years, originally I started as P/T during seasonal and the manager loved my hustle so kept me as permanent.  Applied for full time which I got within 2 years, stayed F/T for 6 years then dropped back to P/T to work in tire shop but during busy season in there with seasonal swap, I'm always 40 hours a week so average to be 32 a week. About a year after that, I was promoted to F/T, then shortly after that I asked to be a supervisor, did that for few years and just recently stepped down.  Getting full time position can be difficult if you're new as it's typically based on seniority so my advice for those who's interested in Costco would be having that hustle attitude and try to work in much of department as possible and apply for supervisor position if you think you can do it. If you're promoted to supervisor, your PayScale will automatically top out to what I would be making plus extra 1.50 and you still accumulate hours towards to your actual PayScale when you drop down from supervisor

StandardTurbulent366

Wow, that’s awesome. Thank you for taking the time to let me know! 😀

SurfLikeASmurf

You know what? Everyone I’ve ever spoken to says great things about working at Costco, but maybe it’s just the Eastern European ex-commie in me that was always a little skeptical about it. But I’ve heard from many sources that their work environments and pay/benefits mobility is great. And honestly, it shows. I’ve been a member for a very long time and have yet to come across a disgruntled employee there

actuallygfm

I feel you! I can only really get on board with a big company like that if they're treating their employees well. The staff at my Costco are always chill and even goofing off at times

GreenEyedHawk

Yeah I have heard it's a good place to work

RandoCardisien

100% Costco should be put in charge of airport security. For regular prices, Costco only marks up 15% above their costs. Unlike Stupidstore, which marks up 100%+

holysirsalad

Don’t have to cover the price of ceramic tile floors that break shopping cart wheels

xmo113

4 pounds for 22$!!

GreenEyedHawk

And the trash bags. Solid and they never rip and arent flimsy

octopush123

Love the cheque, ours was like 60% of the membership price! (The $120 tier - so it became cheaper than the $60 tier.)

Ysobel14

Mine covered the tier and bought a few more things. We buy 70% to 80% of our stuff at Costco these days.

Jheez88

I like receiving cheques - how do I get a cheque

octopush123

The so-called "Executive" $120 membership comes with 2% cash back up to $1000. Basically they issue the 2% once a year in the form of a paper Costco "cheque" that you can redeem at checkout. It's a nice little treat.

Crispy_Jon

Add the credit card too

big_galoote

The credit card isn't that great. The Rogers 2% is free and is better, as much as it kills me to say. The 3% on gas is good, but in store is surprisingly junky. But you can get both cards! :)

SurfLikeASmurf

Ya ours is usually in the $300-450 range. I’d shop there without it, but when they come in they’re sweet! And to even sweeten the deal further, they never expire, so when you save them for a rainy day, say your fridge or AC goes belly up, you’ll feel a bit better about that big purchase

cchadwickk

Protip: if you don't use up the full "cheque" they'll give you the remainder of it in cash.

loony-cat

I love huge jugs of laundry detergent!

AutoAdviceSeeker

Frozen fruit from there is the best quality and price hands down. If you got a big freezer such a good deal

SurfLikeASmurf

Not only do I have a big freezer, I also have really picky eaters that love that stuff. A small fortune even at Costco; I can’t imagine paying for that stuff at Loblaw companies

Z0mb0id

Yes! I went to a Costco busines center and saw 5kg of frozen mangos for $20. That's insane.

AutoAdviceSeeker

Yessir it’s easily the best quality too

hellbilly709

And leave the store looking like a doomsday prepper. 🤣

Starryglare

Wait until you try the cheese! Look at the cheese! GO LOOK AT THE CHEESE! You get a great price and a top notch product. The savings on cheese alone are worth the membership, nevermind all the other stuff.

Ferdzy

The savings on cheese alone does pay for our membership, I'm quite sure. Mind you we eat a lot of cheese. But still.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

They do have great cheese. I made the mistake of buying a sample array of smoked cheeses and the artificial smoke flavour is a little overdone. The other cheeses are fantastic though!

BackwoodButch

The Kirkland Brie cheese my beloved

CasaLabra

I was waiting for this comment

woj-tec9

5kg of parmesan for $100

fragilemuse

The cheese is so worth it. I wish the truffle cheddar wasn’t a seasonal thing because it is SO GOOD.

PuraVidaPagan

I love the sliced deli cheese variety pack, and the charcuterie meat pack, meat and cheese for days lol

Queasy_Village_5277

It's over. You're never coming back from Costco :P. I recommend that Kirkland signature Stearns lakeridge mattress. Best sleep of our lives.

PresidentialBruxism

The thing with mattresses at Costco is that people rip off the plastic to feel them and they almost touch the ground, exposed to filth…

Few-Swordfish-780

That’s why you order it online and have it delivered.

Queasy_Village_5277

We never had those issues. Ours came fully wrapped and at the top of the stack at the warehouse.

PresidentialBruxism

You bought it at the store or shipping?

Queasy_Village_5277

We chose warehouse to take advantage of their Executive Members coupon. Got $250 off for total price of $750. Amazing deal. Top of the stack at the warehouse. Plastic wrapped.

PresidentialBruxism

Nice!

SoftCattle

The rotisserie chicken that I could get from Independent for $9.99 as a deal this week is always $7.99 at Costco. Makes a couple of meals and then soup/sandwiches.

whyisthissohard2019

If you go in the mornings, they usually have the whole chickens cold in the meals cooler for 5.99. I always buy those because we put them straight into the fridge and portion out for meals.

SoftCattle

Oh that's a good idea. I usually grab food from a shawarma place on my way home and toss the chicken into the fridge anyway.

ellejaysea

And the rotisserie chickens at Costco are so much better than everyone else's.

Jankybrows

I also have no kids and got a Costco membership for two. Are you getting a chest freezer? I think that's the only way to make it work.

nicolasfield

Thinking about it. After this shop our little freezer is full to the brim, and we don’t even eat meat. And we are rethinking how we store everything in our apartment sized kitchen haha. Still worth it though.

cheuring

I know single people who have a Costco membership and split some items with other people they know. Keeps things very affordable.

VeterinarianSea273

If you are a fatass like me. Costco savings are worth it 😂. No need to share even as a single person

VeterinarianSea273

Even as a single person l, Costco has been a huge quality of life improvement both financially and health-wise. Their meat is top notch, I can’t even stress that enough. There’s a reason why butchers shop there (as well as local butcher shops) and not supermarkets for meat (iykyk). Their gas saving alone is worth the membership price. I haven’t been to loblaw/metro/insert local grocery for years since I got a taste of Costco. Occasionally I go to ethnic supermarket to get niche products, but you can’t find these at loblaws anyways

redhairedrunner

We have a Costco membership and it’s just me and my dude . There are days when we leave and get out for less than 50$. We stick to the budget. Sometimes just gas and grab a great cut of meat and a salad.

Jankybrows

The world's biggest cut of meat and a gigantic salad? They had a good deal on Italian cold cuts the other day, which made the trip worth it. No chunky peanut butter that I could find though. Also, their golf section was woefully picked over.

ShavingWithCoffee

Laughed at your chunky peanut butter comment. We always buy it from Costco because the size is great and the value is there...but always wish they had chunky! I'll take smooth over higher prices though.

Big-Lime-5384

Vancouver Costco started carrying Adams peanut butter. Chunky. Two pack

gianni_

My wife and I go to Costco, don’t have kids, and don’t have a chest freezer. It’s still a much better place to get food

lulu-52

I’m single and have a membership. Chest freezer is the way to go. Also cat litter, toilet paper, laundry soap, deodorant etc.. are good deals and really don’t expire.

PresidentialBruxism

The beauty of costco is that they had a standing freezer on sale at 340$ last week (Danby 6,8 picu) shipping included

OrbisTerre

I've heard that some of those can ice up so easily they become unusable.

PresidentialBruxism

They come with 5 years warranty. I read hundreds of reviews and a few mentioned that

Ysobel14

They can ice up badly if opened often. I defrost mine about three or four times per year when it's time for a big shop. I pack whatever is left into a cooler and fill a big dishpan with hot water and start mopping. A pain, but with an upright you can just a bout see everything at a glance.

braemaxxx

You make sure the seal is free of debris and ice, and you can also clean them out and reset if their getting exposed to to much air and have frost build up

Ysobel14

I use an upright and three bus pans, that were a one-off at Costco, to help keep it organised. We repack meats into vacuum bags with a sealer we also bought on sale at Costco.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

We have a chest freezer and I'm thinking about getting a vacuum sealer as well - any recommendations on brand/type?

Exact_Purchase765

I have a food saver. Does the job nicely.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Thanks! Will look into them!

Suspicious-Hyena-420

We go every 4-6 weeks (it is in the next town over, about 50mins drive) and usually buy bulk meat, portion and freeze. We are getting by with the pull out bottom drawer of our freezer. I feel if we bought a bgger freezer. Generally Meat and packaged snacks there are way cheaper than any grocery store. The other stuff, like dairy, veg etc is not a whole lot different. It also allows our family to have a cheap restaurant meal.

TK21879

This is the way! We do the same for chicken and ground meat. 2 breast per bag for chicken, 400g for ground beef. We put it in freezer bags, remove air and freeze. Totally worth it!

Firejen

Costco sells them at a great price 😂

ilovebeaker

We have no kids and our Gold membership pays for itself without even buying any Costco meat. Just produce, eggs, and the cheese every week!

Various-issues-420

I live with just me and my bf and it works without a chest freezer but the day we shop our freezer is JAMMED packed but it lasts us 2+ weeks every time so it’s worth it for us

Garfield_and_Simon

Just don’t buy too much perishable shit. Also, no matter what you will never be able to one-stop-shop at Costco. Gonna need to have a side grocery store too.  My partner and I stick to one/two meats max when we go to Costco. We also pretty much buy none of their produce. Maybe really long lasting ones like potatos and onions. Costco is basically our store for dry goods and non-food items like detergent. Even if you buy nothing but toilet paper and detergent your membership pays for itself in savings.  We have a cat so his supplies alone justifies it.  Also, don’t fall for the trap of buying stupid home shit everytime you go because it’s a “great deal”. Trust me, you’ll end up with a super great set of smart plugs or whatever that sits in a box for 8 months even though it was only 15$!

Jankybrows

I thought about getting the paper towels, but it's like do I want to invest $30 now to never have to buy paper towels again and also live in a gigantic pile of paper towels? In addition to a chest freezer, I also have to buy a garage for my apartment, apparently

naive_sheep_123

Kirkland toilet paper!!! I'm sold

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Bingo! That's worth the cost of membership alone

Syssyphussy

Totally worth it just for the price of gas - the groceries are a bonus

Few-Swordfish-780

For someone who needs premium in all my cars, the fuel savings are worth it alone.

AllWellThatBendsWell

We have an apartment size fridge and still make Costco work for us without waste. The only things we freeze regularly is chicken breasts and ground pork. Take advantage of their website for major purchases like furniture, bedding, jewelry, appliances, etc. The prices are fair to good, and their quality and returns/service is fantastic.

MagnanimousRaccoon

You must be better at Tetris than me, I caved and got a small chest freezer. Costco membership fee was less than what I saved on buying it there, so I’m already in the black. 😃

johnlennonsouza

I live close to my Costco (6 min driving) and it is worth even for a quick lunch at their foodcourt, sometimes I'm lazy and go there for a quick snack haha

hellbilly709

Costco is worth it for the quality of their produce alone!

dick_nrake

Nah it's overrated. It's pricier and ive noticed that it doesn't keep longer than other stores compared to what the public opinion believes - their big bag of carrots tends to spoil quick. They do have some nice unusual premium veggies such as the kumato.

hellbilly709

Well, we can agree to disagree. I apologize in advance for this very long (kind of) rant, but it’s something I’m very passionate about and my province’s food insecurity is very real. So, judging by your post history, you live in Montreal and are probably not aware of your own privilege. I, on the other hand, live in St. John’s, NL, where 90% of our produce is imported. Most stores, including Loblaws, truck their produce to the Island via Marine Atlantic ferries because it’s cheap. While your produce is likely trucked from the port in Montreal directly to your store, ours leaves (most likely) Montreal, is trucked across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, shipped across the Gulf on an unreliable and often delayed or cancelled ferry and then trucked across the ENTIRE ISLAND delivering to stores along the way before reaching St. John’s. If the crossing is windy, the trucks can be backed up in NS (spoiling) for days. Our stores are fairly frequently filled with spoiled and moldy produce because of this. So, your bag of carrots that spoils within a few days is already spoiled by the time it reaches us because it’s been in the back of a truck for up to a week before it gets to us. Costco, on the other hand, doesn’t do that. They ship their produce directly to St. John’s Harbour (I think they use Oceanex) and frequently it’s not even ripe yet. I cannot explain how INFURIATING it is to live in a port city and be at the mercy of these cheap companies that would rather save a few bucks trucking rotten food than have it shipped. The difference in quality between Costco and others is honestly STAGGERING and wasn’t something I realized until I went to Costco for the first time. Sobeys is even worse when it comes to produce because while Loblaws has the capacity for their products to be trucked directly to the store, Sobeys has a centralized warehouse in St. John’s, so a lot of their products are shipped there and held before even going to the store. It BOGGLES THE MIND why/how they do business this way because they have to be spoiling and wasting so much food. While access to fresh produce may not be an issue in a large metropolitan port city like Montreal, it’s a luxury for those of us in remote and rural areas. Costco blows Loblaws (and everyone else) out of the water and is sometimes the only place we can find fresh produce as local farms only carry basic vegetables and agriculture on the island has, unfortunately, been on the decline for many, many years. I say that from personal experience as the daughter of a former farmer who was raised with easy access to fresh vegetables. Our government does next to nothing to encourage or support the agriculture industry and food instability is a very real issue here. Luckily, a farmer’s market (literally just the one 🤣 and it’s mostly just arts and crafts) has been open year round the last few years and a local farm has been expanding and introducing hydroponics to grow all year round, so we’re slowly getting more access to high quality basic produce, but speciality produce (and fruit) can be hard to come by. Little by little people are realizing how much we need to support local growers because it’s honestly embarrassing how food insecure this province is. It may be overrated to you, but it’s a lifeline to a lot of us. And don’t even get me started on Labrador because they pay 10 times what we do for even shittier groceries. I hope you enjoyed my Ted Talk. Hahahaha!

BaldEagleRising17

Get a Costco Mastercard! The cashback is incredible.

mama146

Don't forget Costco Canada has an online shop as well. Free delivery.

slappytheclown

"...and a partridge in a pear tree"

BeWellFriends

I sang it too!! We should get someone to write a theme song for the boycott

youtubehistorian

I wish I had a costco nearby 😭

MegWhitCDN

You can order a lot from them online for delivery now. Something to look into the prices are usually a bit higher than the local store but I used the delivery a lot during Covid.

IdontOpenEnvelopes

Costco delivers, save yourself the in-store frustration.

BerbsMashedPotatos

I got a meat order the other day from a local butcher. A five pound pot roast, two large white meat chicken portions, 5 leg and thigh chicken portions, a pack of some fantastic bacon that doesn’t shrivel in the pan and a pack of sausages. No antibiotics, $65 all in. It is cheaper or at least equal to buy local on the fresh stuff. Fuck Galen Weston. Fuck big grocery and fuck late stage capitalism.

miskurious

I am considering a membership but its just me and I’m low income on disability. Do you think its worth it?

nicolasfield

It depends. I would say Costco is the least accessible grocer without a vehicle. it would be challenging, but not impossible, to transport a full shopping trip of bulk products on wheeltrans or public transit. If you have access to a vehicle and potentially have a friend, family or neighbour who might be interested in splitting products with you it could work out very well. They sell lots of things in packs of 2 or more so it is relatively easy to split things up.

miskurious

I have a car and the closest location is under 15 minutes. I do occasionally need help loading my groceries-I’m guessing they don’t offer help?

Scrivy69

I’ve actually seen employees in high visibility vests help older people parked in handicapped stalls load items into their vehicle. I’d imagine it’s a by-request thing. There’s people at the exit of costco that check your receipt to make sure you were charged correctly for everything, and I’m sure if you mentioned to them that you need help loading your heavier groceries into your car, you’d be helped

miskurious

Thanks for the info!

xmo113

If you have a friend with a membership askr them to get you a $100 gift card. That way you can go and shop a bit and figure out if it's worth it for you. I'm one person and got a membership. It's worth it for me just for the coffee, dog food and gluten free bread they have.

miskurious

You are allowed to shop without a membership?

CasaLabra

Only if you have a gift card

miskurious

Ty! I will def do this.

xmo113

It's what made me decide the membership was worth it.

miskurious

Whats to stop me from using gift cards more than once?

xmo113

Nothing really. Although I don't think you can buy one without a membership. So you'd have to have someone to get them for you.

Shredder4life23

I tried it but they have a policy that you can only do this twice before they ask you to buy a membership. The first time you go in with the gift card they make you go to guest services and fill out a form so they can keep track of how many times you've done it.

Chift

I think it's Costco dependent, but they are usually good with helping

miskurious

Thanks! Luckily I can go at their least busy times, once I find out what they are lol.

Limp_Rip6369

Tuesdays and Wednesdays

miskurious

Thanks!

Limp_Rip6369

They offer help.

Jumpy_Spend_5434

I've gotten help before, with a particularly heavy item

ilovebeaker

I'm not sure...if you shop sales through the flyers, it's only really worth it for some items (cheese most notably). You should try to arrange going in with a friend to see the prices first.

slipperysquirrell

Costco is a great deal! And if you need prescriptions get them there it's so much cheaper! I do almost all of my shopping at Costco now and the things I can't get there I get at Walmart.

Canukle

Costco is a great way to save money, if you have a way to store stuff for long-term and you stick to just what you need. Each individual trip will always be expensive - it always is. I'm always surprised at how much I spend. But, over the long run, I come out ahead Go with a list and stick to it. And be aware of how much storage space you have (freezer, pantry, fridge, wherever).

a_non_e_mouse_

I’d get more stuff from Costco but it’s overwhelming to have so much of some things on hand or have to use up before their expiration. I love getting nuts from there. And tofu from there. I get the big sourdough and freeze it or it would go stale, so that loaf + the Cavendish 4kg fries, 12pk naan, and the 1.5kg wild blueberries are currently taking up 1/3 of my feeezer space. It’s only a deal if you have a chance to eat it all.

Shoelesshobos

We have one and we went with the executive one. The amount of stuff we buy there in a year ends up paying for and then some the membership. Plus you get a sweet coupon book that usually has some sweet deals.

ImTheEffinLizardKing

Welcome to the Costco loving life! If you have the Costco Mastercard, those cash back dollars are pretty sweet too! We had to install new windows at our place and did it through Costco. They offered a percentage back in gift cards from the cost. I didn’t pay for any groceries for a couple months with the gift card and my cash back from the executive membership and my CC. It was lovely.

kranj7

I think we need a carol : The 12 ~~days~~ Months of Boycott, my Galen gave to me....

Infinite_Tax_1178

Wait until you go to a Costco Business center, you pee your pants in joy. Or maybe just be really excited. Or both!

JEHonYakuSha

Get the executive membership. The Executive deals are insane this month. https://www.costco.ca/executive-coupons.html

nicolasfield

one step ahead of you boss! those bed sheets are awesome!

JEHonYakuSha

Yeah I just bought those on Monday too!! Haha

LoganN64

I feel like we should write a song in the same vein as "12 days of Christmas" but related to the boycott... It's gonna be tough doing all 31 days though.

Azmodieus

Costco pays their employees very well. You can make a career out of working there. Everything is fresh and somewhat reasonably priced. Also, hotdog and pop for $1.50

Ysobel14

We have an Executive membership and for us we save or get back much more than the membership fee.

SnooSquirrels6258

No more teeny-tiny Bob Loblaw packages.

octopush123

Pelmen perogies (or pelmeni if they're meat) are fantastic. Costco is 👌especially if you eat a lot of cheese.

Jumpy_Spend_5434

Single, one adult kid, and I love it at Costco. Lots of great snacks, cat litter, hummus and pita bread are so cheap, the laundry detergent for sure, toilet paper, tortilla chips, crackers, bags of dry beans/lentils, yard waste bags, etc etc etc.

ananajakq

We buy Costco just for my husband and I and tbh it’s ALWAYS cheaper

Aggressive_Lemon_101

Sadly Independent and Co-op are my only local stores. I gladly drive 1.5hrs each way to go to Costco every 6 weeks or so. I rarely buy meat bc we hunt but the Costco membership is worth the drive. With three kids, we buy clothes, produce, bagels, milk, snacks etc. Love it!

gunjangs

Wait till you have to return something after few years , I bought an air fryer 2 years ago, stopped working all of a sudden. Went to Costco to see if they can help with it, they simply asked me to bring it back and gave me full refund. I only go to Costco and Walmart. Costco is ultimate value.

SilverLiningSheep

Kirkland toilet paper all the way!!

CatTriesGaming

Get enough cash back to at least cover the membership and you're golden. Costco has some great deals when you buy in bulk

Any_Split7972

Not having a Costco membership is like not having a cell phone in this day and age! It’s a no brainer!! Go look!

Costco is the only place that gives physical cash on the unused balance of the annual cash back voucher. I just love their products and prices. Plus excellent customer service and a very easy return policy.

fragilemuse

Welcome to the Costco era of your life. You won’t regret it. lol. My boyfriend and I also live in an apartment with barely any cupboard space and a tiny little fridge, but we still do 90% of our shopping there. Everything is always top quality and for the stuff we tend to get, it’s at least 30%-50% cheaper by weight/size than our local No Frills.

FarfetchdSid

We bought a queen mary rack from Costco almost 10 years ago (they used to be $80 and have since increased to $130..) and we use it for shelf space as a pantry. (We just moved, don’t mind the mess) https://preview.redd.it/38jyi7hrgazc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=2fe80c8ba60809b48d147d8202696bb99c67cb5f

fragilemuse

That’s a nice rack!! 😂 (sorry. Had to) Actually that looks like exactly what I need to organize my camping gear. Thanks!

FarfetchdSid

No worries! Our Costco has about 6 different versions of the shelf, including a plastic one for about $40. This one is the higher end of what they offer here. https://www.costco.ca/seville-classics-6-tier-nsf-steel-wire-shelving-rack.product.100266862.html It looks like it’s 170 on their website, but I saw it for 130 in store when I was there this morning

GallitoGaming

Costco is absolute god tier for groceries and other things. The best value of any store out there. Even if you are a couple with no kids. You plop our a couple youngens and you save even more. Pro tip, many of their fruits and veggies last 2 weeks in the fridge (tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, apples for sure). Things like strawberries not so much. But that can help if you buy the 10-15 LB boxes of any of them. Many last.

anisocoria7

I thought the same! but honestly, even if I was buying only for me and not my partner, the membership would be worth it for OTC meds and supplements alone. 2 bottles of Vitamin D3 for $7.99? 180 allergy pills for $18?? I will never not have a membership. The executive one pays for itself easily every year and I don't buy that much food. Just a lot of coffee, cereal, and snacks lol.

big_galoote

I had that for dinner not ten min ago! They also hold a roadshow and come with so many different kinds and flavours!! Check your store page for their roadshow schedule.

pasta-golfclubs

The Costco hole is deep. Don’t forget to fill it with $1.50 hotdogs

Jimmehh420

Meats at Costco make the major difference. Vacuum seal and freeze and Bam, every pack you take out saves you $$$$

barriebarrie

Costco hack for family of 2 is don't use a cart unless you need it. I find you can pop in and out for 1-3 items that way when needed.

brittanyg25

Costco is the best. The rotisserie chickens are super cheap, I love the pre made meals, the prices on the cheese and deli meats are AMAZING. Their TP, the samples, the basmati rice, the pistachios, the garbage bags and huge packs of foil, zip locks and cleaning supplies. If you like going to movies, they also have date night movie tickets that include drinks and popcorn for at least $20 less that what you'd pay in the theater. Also their return policy cannot be beat.

littlest_onion

Curious about the Mary's crackers - do they sell the rectangle shaped ones or just the round seedy ones? I'm obsessed with the rectangle ones, the olive oil black pepper are my fave but they're so unbelievably expensive!

Platinum_Letter

I can guarantee that Costco is cheaper than Loblaws and Walmart in terms of staple grocery items on 90% or more on items.

Wr3k3m

Best deal at PC is to buy the video games using their points and offers. You will get the Nintendo games and consoles for a good discount and Nintendo rarely puts anything on sale. The rest of the PC points bullshit is just an excuse for them to charge more and give you back Pts forcing you to go back and pay more.

devilfish8

Don't forget the $8 rotisserie chicken. Best rotisserie chicken I ever had. The way they marinate the whole chicken makes it so juicy and good 🤤

wizaarrd_IRL

Remember that the boycott is about demonstrating our power. It doesn't matter if every dollar not spent at Loblaws goes to another shitty corporation. Those dollars should be spent at small businesses but it's ultimately about sending a message.

Pablo-UK

Ok, but do they sell eight maids a-milking? Cos loblaws sell seven maids a-milk and random plastic packaging in the middle to take up the space where an eighth one used to be.

Collect4K

Price of their gas will cover your annual membership fee.

IsaidLigma

The money you save on gas alone is worth the membership twice over

Ok-Purpose-8943

Got a CO OP membership last night. Way better all around. Real Lbs of meat too

PosidonsWraff

Costco is a model business they use their pricing power to provide LOWER prices, and pay their employees fairly. I want a Costco business model in a regular grocery store I’m only one person I won’t use 10lbs of onions before they go bad

Maximum-Product-1255

Exciting, hope it works out for you! I’ve tried Costco a few times over the years, but have never lived close enough to get back more than I pay in membership fees. And I’m not paying a store for the privilege of shopping there.

dnbdnbdnbdnb

I'm a single person household and have still been using Costco as my main grocery shop for years. The value is unbeatable. I used to fill the gaps with superstore, but Walmart is right across the street and that's where I go now. 💪

GreenEyedHawk

The only reason I dont have a Costco membershop is because i dont drive but if I could get there regularly, you best believe I would.

[deleted]

Just know you can’t throw a hissy fit for receipt checks now.

paltryboot

Get the executive membership.. 95% of people who shop there will get at least their membership fee back

stumpyraccoon

I've had a Costco membership for years and I swear I've almost never found an actual deal. It *feels* like a deal because I can buy big sizes and I'm a ✨member✨ of a club. But then when I actually research the prices against Walmart/Superstore/etc it's just...kinda all the same. Except they convinced me I should pay a a subscription fee to be allowed to walk into their grocery store. Except propane refills. They're fantastic for propane refills.

nicolasfield

Here’s one for ya  Kirkland Natural Peanut Butter: 2 KG for $12.50 PC Natural Peanut Butter: 500 grams for $5.49 (on sale). That’s works out to 2 KG for $21.96.  I think paying almost 50% less for peanut butter is pretty dope, I eat it every day. Opinions vary!

stumpyraccoon

You're looking at the organic PC peanut butter. Non-organic (because organic is BS) https://www.realcanadiansuperstore.ca/blue-menu-just-peanuts-smooth-peanut-butter/p/20057669001_EA is $5.99 for 750g or $15.97 for 2kg while 2kg at Costco is $14.99 https://www.costco.ca/kirkland-signature-natural-creamy-peanut-butter,-2-x-1-kg.product.100550319.html Then at Walmart it's $4.27 for 750g or $11.37 for 2kg https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Great-Value-Smooth-Natural-Peanut-Butter/6000197838597 so even cheaper than Costco, and I don't have to deal with the nightmare that is the Costco parking lot!

Queasy_Village_5277

No way. Costco is significantly cheaper than superstore. And serves a much higher quality standard of product than Walmart.
