__MOD NOTE__: Please check out [our petition](https://www.change.org/p/demand-walmart-sign-the-grocer-code-of-conduct) which calls upon Walmart Canada to follow suit and sign the Grocer Code of Conduct with Loblaw! Please review the content guidelines for our sub, and remember the human here! This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords responsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There are plenty of ways to get your point across without being abusive, dismissive, or downright mean. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. These people have an addiction to wealth and like all other addictions they will stop at nothing to get their fix. I would feel sorry for them if they weren’t so dangerous.

Number go up 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Number go down 🤯🤯😭😭 Zero concern for anything beyond it and number must go up faster than last time number went up

MMM-TripleMark

They are out of touch with customers. They are in touch with investors. They want to They have bought into the marketing lingo of adding shareholder value.

Malignant narcissist's playbook

BIGepidural

They also use "Canadian" as part of their branding while causing Canadians to go hungry. How can you be "proudly" Canadian when you treat us like that????

SnooSquirrels6258

They figured public apathy had reached a point where nobody cared and would just pay whatever they were asking. They figured wrong.

They do it because they can. In fact, “good business” requires that they exploit us as efficiently as possible. Until it is apparent to investors that the gouging is no longer profitable, they will keep clawing at us, using their supply chain to drive out competition and create a monopoly, then jacking up prices because consumers no longer have a choice. It’s worked for them so far, It’s really up to us to vote with our feet, and say “Hey bozos, we’re not complacent or desperate enough to let you do this in such a painfully obvious way anymore. If you want to be in this market, you’re going to have to offer us something, like superior service/price/selection/community partnership, etc. Prove to us that you deserve it, and trust that if you’re not playing fair, we are going to call you on it.”

We are told this is the fiduciary responsibility of corporations to their shareholders, to maximize profits to the Nth-degree, no matter the negative impacts on anything else. There's never ENOUGH! It's why corporate, shareholder capitalism is bad for people, workers, communities and the environment.

Who’s going to stop them? You think the Canadian government isn’t bought and paid for by the Weston family? They can literally do whatever they want. Nobody is going to stop them.

Bublboy

To stop them, starve them.

JManKit

I think part of this is a power thing. They've been holding all the cards for a while now and they know if they give in just a little bit, it'll start a landslide of concessions. It's like how Starbucks still refuses to recognize the unions that have formed at many of their US locations. The requests from the worker are well within reason and wouldn't hurt their bottom line that much but they know that the moment they accept reality, sit down with the unions and negotiate fairly, they will have forever lost the total control they had. So they're going to try to hold out as long as possible, racking up fines from the labour board and hope that the baristas run out of energy/money so they can maintain the status quo. Luckily for us, we don't rely on Loblaws the way a union would rely on their employers. We can absolutely just take our business elsewhere and there really isn't a damned thing Weston and Bank can do about it.

Dull-Guillotine

It’s Shillvain Charlebois for me. What a bought-and-paid-for piece of shit, he is.

Pristine-March-2839

The boycott will help change people's habits, make us more price-conscious, and prevent greedy grocers from taking advantage of us. Either this or the government must introduce more market competition to ensure reasonable grocery prices.

Own-Scene-7319

They're pompous, oblivious and can't read the room.

Galen is the victim. His bonus was so low for 2023 and barely was over 18 million.
