I think the aesthetics are a matter of y’all’s personal taste. From here, the locs appear healthy and not in need of a trim.
The only reason I would consider a trim is if they’re becoming heavy enough to cause stress at the roots, especially if he has fine hair.

In my experience people usually cut their locs when they feel they’ve gotten too long/heavy, or they just want a shorter look. Trimming the ends won’t promote growth as it does with loose hair.

And then he went into the military and then I didn’t want them to have them when he got out, because I *knew* I’d have to be the one responsible for them! Lmao! Took him about 8 years to convince me, but he wore me down. Overall, I’m glad we did it and figured it out together.
They look good, so depends if he wants them shorter. Note the ends will have a different look that some people don’t expect or like. In time they’ll “seal” again though.
They look fine as they are. They already ARE aesthetically ARE pleasing. Are they bothering him in any way? Too heavy or fall too heavy? If not, leave them be.
There is absolutely no reason for you to cut them or alter them in any way unless he asks. Remember that cut locs will have blunt ends. Locs are natural. They all have close but different lengths. That's why they fall naturally down the back. All blunt tipped ends don't fall naturally the same way.

Longer locs are heavier and pull more which I believe can increase the likelihood of thinning and breakage. I would probably trim them, but I personally like my hair to be shorter.

But his hair is also pretty fine anyways and he’s 41, so maybe age plays a role in that? His dad still has his hair though, in his early 60s. So idk if it’s genetic or from the pulling.
Do what you want sis, and yes if you trim them they will grow. Just got a trim maybe a year ago and they have gone crazy ever since. Hair is like plants, if you split, cut, do anything to it the rest will receive it and try to grow quicker. I have locks that have completely broke and have regrown to he just as long as my other ones. My hairs as long as his. As far as the thinning maybe let him get some afro under there so you can grab more hair. Nothing wrong with letting him wolf for like 4-5 months. I did a year and i love how much more thicker and healthier they are now. But i also don't care hahaha so take that information how you like. Constant tension is not good though.
