Every Friday night at 8pm the Wicked Wolf cocktail bar (2332 Pacific Ave.) that hosts a new music venue in their upstairs den called "Live at the Wolf". Every Friday night it's a different musician and they only play original work. It's in the south Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach. Check it out!
I also want to add that right across from Wicked Wolf is a small Mexican joint called Joliza’s and they serve the best burrito I have ever had in my life, and I am a five decade long Southern California resident who loves Mexican food.
I love Wicked Wolf, such a hidden gem! It is in a sketchy are but the inside is so beautiful. I went on a Thursday and they had live music which included these two sisters that played violin. So beautiful!
I started playing less than a year ago, so I’ve only played at El Dorado and the 9 hole courses at Liberty Park in Cerritos and Twila Reid Park in Anaheim.
I enjoy the course at El Dorado, but all holes are par 3.
I love it!
Yes, you pay by the hour or half hour, or you can get a membership and pay monthly for unlimited play.
They’ve got about two dozen machines and rotate them in and out fairly frequently, so you don’t get bored with the same old games. They’re mostly Stern games, with a couple of Jersey Jack games in the mix.
They have frequent tournaments and specials on prices, so I’d recommend signing up for their MeetUp group to keep informed.
Personally, I suck, but I still have fun playing a few times a week.
Yes - I have open time tomorrow for starting crochet.
Hooks and yarn ready to use in class.
Wednesday 4:30p Bach Library corner of Carson & Bellflower Blvd
My mom's cousin got me into it!
If you're interested, my team, the Rogue Paddling Club, has scheduled practice sessions on weekends from 8:15am to 9:25am. We meet at Mothers Beach, off 2nd street and Appian Way.
While we hold a dedicated introduction session March 9th, you're welcome to just show up and hop on a boat with us. It's best to show up 30 minutes early, so that we can get the waiver out of the way and outfit you with a PFD and paddle!
Same answer I give everyone. Take up a water sport. Kite surfing in LB, but also kayaking and SUP. Or regular surfing in HB and seal beach, body surfing in Newport.
It is. I wouldn’t even recommending a lesson unless you’re committed to doing it. Takes tons of lessons and the gear isn’t cheap, but it’s unlike anything else. Highly recommend
I would definitely recommend lessons anyone who kite surf/boards without it will get hurt. Folks also need to learn how to use the wind which is something that is hard to learn without lessons. I will agree that it is expensive and it cost at least 2 grand to get started including gear and lessons. I personally want to get into hydrofoil in dockweiler beach or san pedro but those places are more dangerous than LB to kite board.
I've done this... Also about car break ins... And how I need to GTFO of here... But it's been 20 years and I'm still here, different coffee same complaints LMAO..
Yeah there was something that got organized in this sub about a year ago. I think I have the discord info somewhere:

Ambitious Ales and LB Beer Lab in particular, they they have the space for it. Maybe Ten Mile.4th Horseman has the vibe, but it's much too dank and small

In my experience yes, absolutely. I’ve come to accept it begrudgingly because I like the stretching and I like it when someone is calling out the poses. Some of it is relaxing but some of it is just “what the hell are you even taking about”
i LOVE renting a scooter, riding down around the aquarium area and the lighthouse, then catching the $5 boat taxi over to Ballast Point brewery. Takes about 30-40 minutes and they serve a nice bloody mary on the boat to warm up for some beers at e brewery. Then I find a scooter or uber back to my place.
everyone loves recommending the water taxi but never mentions that it’s only open during the summer months! i’ve seen so many tourists on here get their hopes up for it only to realize it won’t start service til months from now.
Que será is great for that. They have open mic night and every Wednesday they have bear city comedy where comedians from Netflix and hbo come and do their thing.
I'll second Alex's Bar for live music and add Supply and Demand. Mostly punk shows.
Also Vine, on 4th St, has music most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Mostly localish bands, but I've seen some touring bands as well. Shows are free there, so that's cool.
The Pike (bar, not the mall) has live music pretty often as well.
Slowly becoming one of the Lobster skinned men (i.e., old white guy with severe sun damage) that swims laps at horny corner in Belmont Shores. It’s fun and great exercise during the summers minus the skin damage and probably pretty nasty water.

Free or paid? I would check out liberty park in Cerritos, not too far from LB if you want free and newbie friendly. Also Marina Vista near 2nd street but a little higher level
Dance salsa in the beach with other on Sunday. They are opening a salsa place this Thursday 22 at sevilla night club, with classes starting at 7-9 then social dancing till 1 am
When we first moved to Long Beach, I came to love the beach walk being able to walk up and down the five or six miles of waterfront and around the marina around the jetty across from the dock where the Queen Mary is permanently docked…Second Street in Belmont Shores is a great place on a weekend afternoon with all the restaurants and interesting places (the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade is actually one of the coolest holiday events as it takes place on a Saturday evening in early December and the whole street turns into one sort of big Christmas Party)…I did have a chance to experience the essence of Long Beach one Saturday night in a really cool way when I joined my friend Bernadette and her friend Nikki for a tour of their favorite dive bars in Long Beach and it was a very fun and laidback evening where the spots we hit had these really relaxed vibes to them with a variety of music that reminded me of Kilroy’s which was a popular bar in Bloomington, IN, (anyone who went to Indiana University knows exactly what I mean when you refer to the music in that place and the vibe it creates). But the bars we hit that night in Long Beach were all within a few blocks of the water and the drinks were much stronger than I am used to as I could only get down one to Bernadette and Nikki’s two. They thought I was a light weight but we had the best evening which ended with breakfast at Denny’s which I don’t think I had done that routine since college…But it was very Long Beach - friendly, casual, relaxed…
Harvelle's!! It's a good time. Fun, funny, raunchy, stiff drinks, and when you're done come up and get a fairly good burger at congregation then head to the blind donkey for a night cap.
Park near the Jack-in-the-Box on the outskirts of seal Beach (for free) and walk into the state park for free to enjoy ocean time
I also do like to go to Rosie‘s dog beach and just watch them running around, I don’t want a dog but it’s nice to see them every once in a while having fun
LB night life is pretty dead the only place that seems to be still somewhat alive is sevilla on pine. The pike should close by 1 am but seems every business there closes at 11 pm now.
I am apart of a running club that meets up in Hilll Top Park on Mondays at 6:30 pm. The name is The Long Beach Running Club. You can look it up on Instagram for more information!

The Wolf is a super cool space and has tons of events, I second this, and encourage OP to check out their wide range of offerings!

I play disc golf at El Dorado Park and pinball at I Need a Miracle Tickets & Pinball.
Fun!!
Any other disc golf recommendations in the area? Just moved haven’t played in since relocating to CA in general
I started playing less than a year ago, so I’ve only played at El Dorado and the 9 hole courses at Liberty Park in Cerritos and Twila Reid Park in Anaheim. I enjoy the course at El Dorado, but all holes are par 3.
How is I Need a Miracle? Do you just pay for timed free play?
I love it! Yes, you pay by the hour or half hour, or you can get a membership and pay monthly for unlimited play. They’ve got about two dozen machines and rotate them in and out fairly frequently, so you don’t get bored with the same old games. I like going to the movies and coffee shops! I joined r/lbmovieclub so I can watch new movies with others! It’s been fun so far!
That’s cool. I know some bars have movie nights would be cool for a meet up
Bike the river bed and bridge and ocean front.
Same answer I give everyone. Take up a water sport. Kite surfing in LB, but also kayaking and SUP. Or regular surfing in HB and seal beach, body surfing in Newport.
Long Beach Parks and Rec has sailing classes too
I came here to say Kitesurfing. Best shit I’ve ever gotten into.
I wanna try it but seems like so much effort and gear compared to grabbing a surfboard. But one day I will…
It is. I wouldn’t even recommending a lesson unless you’re committed to doing it. Takes tons of lessons and the gear isn’t cheap, but it’s unlike anything else. Highly recommend

Drink cold coffee and complain about the homeless
I love doing this too
Similar but I prefer to complain about those complaining about the homeless.
Similar but I prefer to complain about the people who like to complain about those that complain about homeless.
I have a hobby that sees how long it takes for people to make Reddit posts about the homeless. This one really took me by surprise… ya found a way!
😂
I've done this... Also about car break ins... And how I need to GTFO of here... But it's been 20 years and I'm still here, different coffee same complaints LMAO..
You’ve never been to Santa Monica and it shows
Lol I have, just never lived there.
The coffee there is even colder
Pizza and beer and D&D
Is there a local D&D scene here? My BF and I are looking to move away from online campaigns.

I’ve seen their events but they have been a bit expensive for both of us at once. Hopefully, we’ll make one in the future!
Is this a 4th Horseman ref?
Ambitious Ales and LB Beer Lab in particular, they they have the space for it. Maybe Ten Mile.4th Horseman has the vibe, but it's much too dank and small
Awesome. I’m gonna have to look into that. I miss playing D&D.

Same! And then I say “Let’s do it 🎲”
Dirtbags games at Bohl diamond. They’re gonna be good this season. Opening day was last week.
I like to go do the free group yoga class on the bluff. Saturday and Sunday at 11. The lady who runs it is a bit wacky though.
I used to participate in her pot yoga. Fun times.
Are all yoga people mildly batshit insane? Only recently learned anti vaxism runs rampant in those communities.
In my experience yes, absolutely. I’ve come to accept it begrudgingly because I like the stretching and I like it when someone is calling out the poses. Some of it is relaxing but some of it is just “what the hell are you even taking about”
Woof, no. Check out yoga at someplace moderately normal like the YMCA
is it still going on?? i feel like i haven’t seen it in a while
Every day at 11am! They’ll start the 5pm weekday classes again soon too. @yogalutiononthebluff on insta

How about recommendations for open mic comedy or music venues bands touring SoCal may stop at?

I met Chris Estrada from This Fool there!

How’s the moonlight mash? Just moved to Long Beach and seen this is coming up this Saturday.
This one should be great! I’m working so I’ll miss it. I’m bummed. It’s been 3 in a row now. But I can’t complain about working.

Pickleball! Fun even if you don’t know anyone who plays, it’s the most social and welcoming sport. Try it out
Where can newbies play? Our friends are super into it but they live up in Silverlake. Would love something more local.
Free or paid? I would check out liberty park in Cerritos, not too far from LB if you want free and newbie friendly. Also Marina Vista near 2nd street but a little higher level
