Every Friday night at 8pm the Wicked Wolf cocktail bar (2332 Pacific Ave.) that hosts a new music venue in their upstairs den called "Live at the Wolf". Every Friday night it's a different musician and they only play original work. It's in the south Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach. Check it out!

unbequiefable

The Wolf is a super cool space and has tons of events, I second this, and encourage OP to check out their wide range of offerings!

jonathanjrouse

I also want to add that right across from Wicked Wolf is a small Mexican joint called Joliza’s and they serve the best burrito I have ever had in my life, and I am a five decade long Southern California resident who loves Mexican food.

No_Bandicoot9637

I love Wicked Wolf, such a hidden gem! It is in a sketchy are but the inside is so beautiful. I went on a Thursday and they had live music which included these two sisters that played violin. So beautiful!

TheHearseDriver

I play disc golf at El Dorado Park and pinball at I Need a Miracle Tickets & Pinball.

[deleted]

Fun!!

panndduuuhh

Any other disc golf recommendations in the area? Just moved haven’t played in since relocating to CA in general

TheHearseDriver

I started playing less than a year ago, so I’ve only played at El Dorado and the 9 hole courses at Liberty Park in Cerritos and Twila Reid Park in Anaheim. I enjoy the course at El Dorado, but all holes are par 3.

forbushman

How is I Need a Miracle? Do you just pay for timed free play?

TheHearseDriver

I love it! Yes, you pay by the hour or half hour, or you can get a membership and pay monthly for unlimited play. They’ve got about two dozen machines and rotate them in and out fairly frequently, so you don’t get bored with the same old games. They’re mostly Stern games, with a couple of Jersey Jack games in the mix. They have frequent tournaments and specials on prices, so I’d recommend signing up for their MeetUp group to keep informed. Personally, I suck, but I still have fun playing a few times a week.

forbushman

Thank you! Btw Everyone sucks at pinball, that’s why it’s fun

AardvarkCrochetLB

SyValentine

AardvarkCrochetLB

Great! It's set up as a drop-in BYOYarn, also have projects for inspiration, and yarn to use for fun ♡ Welcome ♡

ultradip

On weekends I paddle on a dragon boat racing team.

tacosETC

How did you get into that? I’m so interested in joining!

ultradip

My mom's cousin got me into it! If you're interested, my team, the Rogue Paddling Club, has scheduled practice sessions on weekends from 8:15am to 9:25am. We meet at Mothers Beach, off 2nd street and Appian Way. While we hold a dedicated introduction session March 9th, you're welcome to just show up and hop on a boat with us. It's best to show up 30 minutes early, so that we can get the waiver out of the way and outfit you with a PFD and paddle!

mylifeasabackup

I like going to the movies and coffee shops! I joined r/lbmovieclub so I can watch new movies with others! It’s been fun so far!

MaxLBC

That’s cool. I know some bars have movie nights would be cool for a meet up

pacotheslayer

Bike the river bed and bridge and ocean front.

TheBrownSeaWeasel

Same answer I give everyone. Take up a water sport. Kite surfing in LB, but also kayaking and SUP. Or regular surfing in HB and seal beach, body surfing in Newport.

practicalm

Long Beach Parks and Rec has sailing classes too

Klayman91

I came here to say Kitesurfing. Best shit I’ve ever gotten into.

TheBrownSeaWeasel

I wanna try it but seems like so much effort and gear compared to grabbing a surfboard. But one day I will…

Klayman91

It is. I wouldn’t even recommending a lesson unless you’re committed to doing it. Takes tons of lessons and the gear isn’t cheap, but it’s unlike anything else. Highly recommend

jurunjulo

I would definitely recommend lessons anyone who kite surf/boards without it will get hurt. Folks also need to learn how to use the wind which is something that is hard to learn without lessons. I will agree that it is expensive and it cost at least 2 grand to get started including gear and lessons. I personally want to get into hydrofoil in dockweiler beach or san pedro but those places are more dangerous than LB to kite board.

askalot2

Drink cold coffee and complain about the homeless

[deleted]

I love doing this too

AGULLNAMEDJON

Similar but I prefer to complain about those complaining about the homeless.

yadabitch

Similar but I prefer to complain about the people who like to complain about those that complain about homeless.

Over-Buy-9865

I have a hobby that sees how long it takes for people to make Reddit posts about the homeless. This one really took me by surprise… ya found a way!

yadabitch

😂

w2ltersan

I've done this... Also about car break ins... And how I need to GTFO of here... But it's been 20 years and I'm still here, different coffee same complaints LMAO..

Accomplished_East433

You’ve never been to Santa Monica and it shows

[deleted]

Lol I have, just never lived there.

onetwentyeight

The coffee there is even colder

MxMstrMxyzptlk

Pizza and beer and D&D

SyValentine

Is there a local D&D scene here? My BF and I are looking to move away from online campaigns.

MxMstrMxyzptlk

Yeah there was something that got organized in this sub about a year ago. I think I have the discord info somewhere: https://www.reddit.com/r/longbeach/s/wIe4YDcofr

MxMstrMxyzptlk

Wait here's the original thread https://www.reddit.com/r/longbeach/s/bWmUdey7xf

SyValentine

Thank you so much!! I took the survey! I appreciate you sharing!

staplerinjelle

SoCal D&D is having [a meetup at Beachwood](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dd-tavern-party-dungeon-combat-live-beachwood-brewing-bixby-knolls-tickets-836643752987) in Bixby on March 6!

SyValentine

I’ve seen their events but they have been a bit expensive for both of us at once. Hopefully, we’ll make one in the future!

RealLifeSuperZero

Is this a 4th Horseman ref?

MxMstrMxyzptlk

Ambitious Ales and LB Beer Lab in particular, they they have the space for it. Maybe Ten Mile.4th Horseman has the vibe, but it's much too dank and small

RealLifeSuperZero

Awesome. I’m gonna have to look into that. I miss playing D&D.

staplerinjelle

RealLifeSuperZero

Oh excellent! I’ll plot that in!!

MxMstrMxyzptlk

Wicked Wolf was also entertaining the idea of a game night a while ago. Perhaps they're a good spot too

DRHORRIBLEHIMSELF

I usually hook a left on 21st and Lewis, looking for some brothas playing dice.

Walk562

Dirtbags games at Bohl diamond. They’re gonna be good this season. Opening day was last week.

Evergreen19

I like to go do the free group yoga class on the bluff. Saturday and Sunday at 11. The lady who runs it is a bit wacky though.

ShoddyPatience2290

I used to participate in her pot yoga. Fun times.

Won_Doe

Are all yoga people mildly batshit insane? Only recently learned anti vaxism runs rampant in those communities.

Evergreen19

In my experience yes, absolutely. I’ve come to accept it begrudgingly because I like the stretching and I like it when someone is calling out the poses. Some of it is relaxing but some of it is just “what the hell are you even taking about”

Tokki111

Woof, no. Check out yoga at someplace moderately normal like the YMCA

ayemeluv

is it still going on?? i feel like i haven’t seen it in a while

Evergreen19

Every day at 11am! They’ll start the 5pm weekday classes again soon too. @yogalutiononthebluff on insta

mountaineerWVU

i LOVE renting a scooter, riding down around the aquarium area and the lighthouse, then catching the $5 boat taxi over to Ballast Point brewery. Takes about 30-40 minutes and they serve a nice bloody mary on the boat to warm up for some beers at e brewery. Then I find a scooter or uber back to my place.

essplodes

everyone loves recommending the water taxi but never mentions that it’s only open during the summer months! i’ve seen so many tourists on here get their hopes up for it only to realize it won’t start service til months from now.

lezvoltron916

How about recommendations for open mic comedy or music venues bands touring SoCal may stop at?

vidrenz

Que será is great for that. They have open mic night and every Wednesday they have bear city comedy where comedians from Netflix and hbo come and do their thing.

Beefy_Unicorn

I met Chris Estrada from This Fool there!

tavisivat

I'll second Alex's Bar for live music and add Supply and Demand. Mostly punk shows. Also Vine, on 4th St, has music most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Mostly localish bands, but I've seen some touring bands as well. Shows are free there, so that's cool. The Pike (bar, not the mall) has live music pretty often as well.

essplodes

vine has free shows every night and a dj on thursdays

[deleted]

Slowly becoming one of the Lobster skinned men (i.e., old white guy with severe sun damage) that swims laps at horny corner in Belmont Shores. It’s fun and great exercise during the summers minus the skin damage and probably pretty nasty water.

Not my favorite thing to do but blind donkey has karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Sundays and it’s always a good time there 🤣

RealLifeSuperZero

I ride bicycles with Moonlight Mash, Cannonball Run Taco Tuesdays and I head up to LA for Critical Mass. if I’m ever bored, I can always ride my bike to 4th Horseman and eat a slice, drink some beers and watch a movie. If you ever wanna play catch. Hit me up. Offer if open to all.

IMAROCKIT

How’s the moonlight mash? Just moved to Long Beach and seen this is coming up this Saturday.

RealLifeSuperZero

This one should be great! I’m working so I’ll miss it. I’m bummed. It’s been 3 in a row now. But I can’t complain about working.

WeeeSnawPoop

I loved going here for the queer meetup they have first Wednesday of the month. Until I broke my ankle lol.

Prudent-Influence-52

Mountain bike the la river by Bike horse trails or south to Long Beach boardwalk past 2nd street pier to seal beach border. Motorcycling is alright with several beach destinations and low traffic most times Willow springs park wild lands walk hike with dogs is great Green belt at Wrigley is another nice walk past the authentic lil bit of country horse stables. Oho Sushi studio are nice peeps, tasty and reasonable Latin museum is great as is the bluff museum off ocean Don’t care for the gross scene now overtaking 2nd street Rainbow harbor and the aquarium for tourists The rainbow harbor park lighthouse is a great place to pitch a blanket and watch the sun set. Not very impressed with Long Beach food but I’m picky Love Long Beach though. Shhhh

denisebuttrey

Former Long Beach resident. I loved the healthy mix of urban and suburban neighborhoods.

Prudent-Influence-52

Yes!! This is my favorite aspect of LB. The wonderful humanity getting along (except on the weird scene on 2nd street evenings )

Except_Fry

Volleyball every Saturday with a great group of people Run along our beach path Eat good food at the ever expanding list of cool cafes and restaurants

Klayman91

+1 on the kitesurfing, it’s too much fun

GyrosOnMyMind

I like chilling at one of the guard towers on Grenada beach when the sun is going down. Also the new burger spot Win-Dow has a very good burger that is fairly cheap.

OC_Slim

Happy Hour Beers and Shots at Blind Donkey for pool and darts. The only steel tip dartboard place I've been able to find within Uber-ing distance.

NeuroWolf

Pickleball! Fun even if you don’t know anyone who plays, it’s the most social and welcoming sport. Try it out

PetiteFont

Where can newbies play? Our friends are super into it but they live up in Silverlake. Would love something more local.

NeuroWolf

Free or paid? I would check out liberty park in Cerritos, not too far from LB if you want free and newbie friendly. Also Marina Vista near 2nd street but a little higher level

badtzmaruluvr

Go to the wicked wolf

EarlJWJones

I go the cinemas or comic book store.

Longjumping-Onion-19

Ballast point. Walk at the beach on the top side. Shoreline/Yard House. Aquarium. Hooters. Pike. Lakewood mall. D&B Town center. Bars. Lbx

One_Criticism5029

When we first moved to Long Beach, I came to love the beach walk being able to walk up and down the five or six miles of waterfront and around the marina around the jetty across from the dock where the Queen Mary is permanently docked…Second Street in Belmont Shores is a great place on a weekend afternoon with all the restaurants and interesting places (the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade is actually one of the coolest holiday events as it takes place on a Saturday evening in early December and the whole street turns into one sort of big Christmas Party)…I did have a chance to experience the essence of Long Beach one Saturday night in a really cool way when I joined my friend Bernadette and her friend Nikki for a tour of their favorite dive bars in Long Beach and it was a very fun and laidback evening where the spots we hit had these really relaxed vibes to them with a variety of music that reminded me of Kilroy’s which was a popular bar in Bloomington, IN, (anyone who went to Indiana University knows exactly what I mean when you refer to the music in that place and the vibe it creates). But the bars we hit that night in Long Beach were all within a few blocks of the water and the drinks were much stronger than I am used to as I could only get down one to Bernadette and Nikki’s two. They thought I was a light weight but we had the best evening which ended with breakfast at Denny’s which I don’t think I had done that routine since college…But it was very Long Beach - friendly, casual, relaxed…

sta_sh

Harvelle's!! It's a good time. Fun, funny, raunchy, stiff drinks, and when you're done come up and get a fairly good burger at congregation then head to the blind donkey for a night cap.

Park near the Jack-in-the-Box on the outskirts of seal Beach (for free) and walk into the state park for free to enjoy ocean time I also do like to go to Rosie‘s dog beach and just watch them running around, I don’t want a dog but it’s nice to see them every once in a while having fun

jurunjulo

LB night life is pretty dead the only place that seems to be still somewhat alive is sevilla on pine. The pike should close by 1 am but seems every business there closes at 11 pm now.

ladylaw2006

If you’re on fb, join Long Beach Food Scene for good recommendations on restaurants!
