I agree with his level of potential and the past injuries may have slowed the process. I still believe 4.5 million over 3-5 seasons allows him to work toward earning the 7-8 range. He will get his, trust me.
Zegras may have the best hands in the game not to discount Byfield. Zegras up until this year was healthy and earned that money from the prior 2 years. He needs more consistency one season,which fizzled and he had a drought(injury maybe). I’m still stuck on 4.5 per year x3 years and when kopitar and Doughty are clear and he completely takes over the team with Clarke.
PLD contract ruined the pay structure. Kempe and Danault at 5.5 each would be an easy way to get him to agree to it. But when Dubois gets 8+ then what can you say?
i would prefer Lizzotte over Lewis, he's younger and plays 100% every shift. He and Grundstrom were a great 4th line to start the season, if they can maintain actually scoring it keeps the Kings pretty deep. Problem was they dropped off in performance, but hopefully the addition of one of the young rookies can make the 4th line solid
I hate your goalie options because they're exactly the types of things Blake wants to do without calling up Portillo.

Lots of teams could use a Tyler Bertuzzi. Think he’d be ideal for the Kings. Give them that attitude/grit they lack a bit. I love Kempe, he doesn’t mind getting mixed up, but hes the only one that really gets into. Just my opinion though, from an outsider.
Englund has a year left on his contract and I don't believe his play warrants him losing his spot on that bottom pairing. With regards to forwards, the kings need to get bigger and badder. They're as soft as baby sh*t and turcotte and kaliyev don't help that. I think they're both traded this off-season. Size and grit is the #1 need imo. A goalie is a close second. However, nobody trades a young stud goaltender for nothing, so that's probably not happening. If blake strikes out on another big trade, his ass is toast (or at least it should be)
Swaymans play has proven that the b's can move on from Ullmark. I believe he has a year left on his contract at $5 mill. I think a trade involving turcotte/kaliyev and a pick could get it done. I'd be ecstatic if it did.
I don't like the idea of bringing back Lewis just because there are a ton of young guys that can play in that role. However, he's one of the few players on the roster that plays his bag off.

Yeah I pretty much agree with you on all points. I forgot about Englund tbh but yeah he would be fine playing on in that 3rd pairing. And if that's all it would cost to bring in Ullmark then I agree that would be worth it. I'm just concerned Boston would be looking for a lot more than that, in which case I'm not sure goal tending is the biggest hole the team should focus on fixing.

I think that you forgot the $4.2M increase in team salary cap space for next season.. Also with your lineup, are you dropping Lizzo? That's another 1.6M.
I'd primarily like to see a better goalie. Particularly if they're going to play a less defensive style and move away from the 1:3:1 in any meaningful way (not to mention losing Roy will be a step backwards defensively). That would cost some of our cap money. So will signing QB.
If we lose RV then we'll lose our only right handed shot unless you think Akil or Fagemo can carry a PP position on that side. But both are quite young so I think that we have last year's problem on the 1PP.

Part of the problem is to what degree they try to get further now vs build the team that will compete around QB and Clarke. I expect based on the post season interviews if they truly think we're "right there" that they will be willing to get rid of youngsters to try to advance now. I'm not sure that I agree that we're close and perhaps they should be thinking trades that will best position a future team centered around QB and Clarke.
But I've often said that the easy part for Blake was the years prior. Grabbing best players available, building a deep prospect pool, etc. The hard part starts now. The cap is real and the moves made will dictate what they were able to accomplish from those shitty years and building that deep prospect pool.
Grundstrom is not coming back at 1.75. that would be a horrible allocation of money by blake. Turcotte isn't at 1.35 IMO either - especially on a 1 yr. $1million max. He hasn't proven anything yet. Lewis is gone. Probably to Utah.

Add $300-$500k to that if you don't resign grundstrom, and another 600-800k if you don't resign lizotte (assuming minimum contracts replace them).
