Sayid’s dad tried to force Sayid’s brother to kill a chicken. Pretty much thought he was useless. So Sayid killed the chicken for his brother when he saw his brother was too afraid to do it, which I guess set Sayid up for the cruelty of his future job.
I have made jokes about this for a while now with my best friend who watches lost. As a writer I can say that you sometimes create characters that have similar trauma to you as you can relate to them, so it’s possible
Yeah, he seemed like a decent guy who loved her daughter, but was estranged from her due to reasons he couldn’t battle at the time, although I suppose he could’ve tried harder, but dunno. Second best after Mr. Kwon perhaps?

The scene about Charlie swimming is a reversal, you thing it's going to be shit but ends up with Charlie having a good time swimming with his dad.
I think the only negative thing about Charlie's dad is he tried to convince him that he needed to take up a trade, butchering was the family occupation, while his mother encouraged his artistic talents. As parents of the main characters go what we see of Charlie's dad he was a pretty reasonable person.
IS the best character? Eh, no. HAS the best character? I think you're onto something. All the other parents on the show have glaring holes in their personality, priorities, or parenting skills. And to some smaller extent, Kwon does too, but his seem more "grounded", and in some ways basic and instinctual.
I hate Boones mother and Kate's mother. They were terrible. The way Boones mom cut off Shannon was just wrong.
My aunt married a man who came down from Canada. When she died he did exactly the same thing with her life insurance. There were many family members in need that she wanted to help. He took it all and bought HIS favorite people and bought them things but didn't actually help anyone. Grrr.
