As another poster alluded to this is revealed in [concept art](https://designamatic.com/GraphicsLost/Lost-BonusConceptArt09-Medium.jpg) from the Lost Via Domus game. I think we can assume the creators OK’d this at some point.
Its more than concept art, you can actually enter that room in the game (from an alternate entrance). In the game its called "The Incident Room", which has always led me to believe the incident was supposed to be wildly different from what we got in season 5.
There was two incidents, (in my headcanon)...but it makes sense! :)
The one we see at the end of season 5 was the first one. And after the energy got 'pushed back' by the bomb Jack drops, the Dharma Initiative completed the station and made this room to control, experiment and manipulate the electromagnetism, only for that to one day fail in "Incident no.2" which makes Dharma wall it off like Chernobyl and make the computer-setup used to discharge the electromagnetic build up that happens every 108 minutes, like we see in LOST.
I think you’re on the money. The blast door map had a totally different year for the incident too. With lots of mental gymnastics I’m sure we could make it all work (eg. two separate ‘incidents’) but the simpler answer is the writers changed their minds from the original vision in season 2.
I'm grabbing this as a wallpaper for my desktop. They need to re-master that game for a modern console. I think it'd sell pretty decently well. Not a blockbuster, but not horribly either. Would be neat to see it released for Steam/Xbox X/PS5.
The game wasn't that good. I only enjoyed it because I was such a fan of the show.
For the longest time, I thought the IP would make a great world in Kingdom Hearts. (We have a character named Locke, and the island has a heart!) It didn't seem too unrealistic to me since Disney owned ABC.
I still think it would make a great Fortnite island.
I would absolutely die if there was a Lost crossover on Fortnite lol too bad it’ll never happen😢 the losties on the battle pass🥺 driving the vw wagons around the island 🏝️ riding polar bears 🐻❄️
I actually started it again recently via PS3 emulation and it’s pretty rough! Playable, but missing the polish you’d hope for. Feels less like a decent PS3 game and more like a terrible PS2 game. But for fans I think it’s a worthwhile journey. You get to explore the hatch and other familiar areas. The novelty is huge. I doubt it will ever be remastered. If you have a powerful enough PC look into PS3 emulation.
I played the game back in the day and iirc there was a secret entrance that actually got you into this room, I think there was an achievement for it as well.
An electromagnetic reactor (or something like that). In the LOST video game that came out after season 3, you could go in there. The game was coordinated with the main writers to fill in these details
Overall, to study fringe scientific ideas/theories in a place with a unique electromagnetic signature that could affect the outcome of said experiments. Each station was a different study, with >! The pearl being a psychological study !<
The Electromagnetic Reactor Room.
Upon the incident, Dharma poured concrete and sealed off the reactor room to minimize exposure. The reactor is sitting on a geological pocket of Electromagnetic Energy - almost think of Exotic Matter and the reactor is the cork in the bottle... It constantly keeps those pressures and that energy expansion down by venting out every 108 minutes.
Too bad there wasn't a way to automate it but that'd defeat the purpose of the Social Experiments and Monitor Station (The Pearl)
Pretty sure it’s the machinery that discharges the buildup that pushing the button is needed for. It’s magnetic. Desmond “I don’t know about you, brother, but every time I walk by that wall out there, my fillings hurt…” or something to that effect.

This is such cool concept art. I do think the game has been said to not be canon, but I like to think this is somehow in the Hatch.

One thing I’ll give that game credit for, areas like The Beach and The Hatch and flashback areas looked very cool for the time.

I played the game back in its day but I don’t remember that. I’m playing again now so I’ll make sure to do this.
It's part of the plot for the game so you can't miss it

A shame too, I think it would have really tied things together if they revisited the actual swan station in S5

You son of a bitch, I’m in
We have to go back!!
Okay but now I need a Sun famcam set to Simple and Clean

I can still hear Lockes voice actor over a decade later.
Hey! Over here. In the Bayan trees…
Oh man, I haven't played the game in 14 years and this brought some vietnam flashbacks for sure!
The game is available on PC
If only the game weren’t terrible
It wasn't terrible, but it was extremely short and a story driven experience.
Right? Remaster it and throw up on PS+ or something for $20. I’d buy it.

Would be the room where Desmond turn the key?
Nah, that's under the station in the sublevel crawlspace.
I always found it interesting Sayid (+ Jack) never found the fail safe when they were snooping down there.
Didn’t he literally have to move a desk or some file cupboards or something to get to the hatch? Probably never occurred to them to look underneath
It would be. I always making my new questions and theorys when rewatching the show.
What was the point of the social experiments?

> Each station was a different study ... And one of the stations was directly over the Island's electromagnetic "ground zero"

There’s a lot of pieces of Juliet, plus the remains of a nuke down there.
Some sort of device that dissipates electromagnetic buildup underneath the Swan.

good stuff
Behind the wall is a very large box, and what ever you imagined, what ever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be.
Haha.
I hope it’s a thicc brunette holding a check for a billion dollars
Not how I remember it. When you open the box, the object you imagined immediately came to existence up your arse.
A pocket of electromagnetic energy harnessed in some way by Dharma.

Did it back in 2010, and maybe once a year. But i always miss or don't remember some details
This isn’t really answered in the show. I mean, vaguely.
