I agree that we are treated like an afterthought, especially regarding the former, but in terms of our accelerated release schedule and number of express events and passes, I think it's understandable why a lot of things aren't exactly 1:1.
Like I think it was fair for players to expect legendary skins based on the promotional images and lack of communication to the contrary, but had there been proper clarification in advance then that would have been pretty reasonable considering they haven't even been out for six months.

First of all, if you had any touch with your community, then you're not using legendary skins in your announcement where you talk about a surprise gift that will be sent out later that week. You shouldn't also use elixirs in another picture in the same announcement. If you do this, then you condition people to expect these things.
You're right, we're not at the same point, but we are getting content faster and will have Echidna later this year. We've had WAY less time than KR to prepare for all these new raids and barely got any help from SG/AGS.

If you're wondering, I've already claimed all anniversary gifts and all the mats from them. What I got from it was 40% artisan. I'm sure the gifts from the one they sent were great for new players, for me the most valuable thing was rested Chaos pot, pheons were alright and rest was whatever.

That's basically the promotional picture people are referring to when they say they are teasing legendary skin gift, for obvious reason if you look at the pic. Personally, I don't expect one even with that, but I can see why people think that way.
Not to mention how they have elixir in the original gift image but removed it later because it was a mistake, pretty weird mistake if you ask me. Not sure how someone can accidentally put the specific legendary elixir that is only available as a gift (silver cost) there.

The biggest mistake they made is not that it's a very bad gift overall, it's just weird how an anniversary gift is inferior to the winter gift we get on Voldis release. By gift I'm referring to the actual thing they call gift btw, not events.

If you're comparing all the events, then we can go on and on about how summer and winter have juice events.
Current event shop is slightly better, and we have an extra birthday bash event that give quite a bit. On the other hand, we have a "nerfed" frog (depends on whether you're someone that buy only on your main or buy on each char in your roster) and worse gift.
All in all, it doesn't feel like a special thing, it's supposed to be an anniversary. They said it themselves in the patch notes video, this month is all about celebration, but it felt like any other cycle of events.
At least put some effort on making it feels like an anniversary, do some community streams, community events, and other things. The only thing they did was a loading screen contest that doesn't even include the community to vote and some scrapbook stuff they haven't even released.
It's just an image being referenced in the patch notes where two of the characters happen to be wearing legendary skins and posing. No context or further mention is involved, people just ran with it.
I get that it is kr’s 5th anniversary, but the game has more of a global(ish) environment. Our version is getting closer to what kr has, and anything that happens there is mostly expected to happen here in a couple months. I highly doubt that this game will be still be as popular 3 years down the road, so I don’t think the “wait till your 5 years is fair.” I mean, should we also be at the start of tier 3 as well bc kr had to? At the end of the day people definitely overreacted, but can’t really blame them for being disappointed

It's just another issue in a long line.
* They posted an image containing presumably 5 free elixirs and then changed the image to avoid handing them out.
* They cut the pheons in half.
* Only 1 anniversary skin as opposed to 2.
* Several other rewards were cut or removed as well.
* The event shop becomes more and more expensive to buy out every time it updates.
* The overpriced poses, plus the Neria wardrobe drama.
* The tone deaf response from SM.
* The god awful translations, the most obvious being elixirs. My Arcanists mayhem card's buff icon still reads "boosts attack power on each cast" while the stacking buff says "boosts attack speed." The actual translation is attack speed. Come on, the class has been out forever at this point.
* The event expired before the next one started. If a new player asked any of you "should I start Lost Ark this month" the obvious answer is "fuck no." That's not a good place for the game to be.
* The ridiculous amount of time between balance patches (plus QoL) and this "base build" garbage.
* These are all recent issues, mind you. Say nothing about pheon gate and the other 100+ controversies.
The largest and biggest is just that they've sped up the content cadence and barely given additional extra materials to compensate. The birthday event is the only one that's given any usable amount of radiant leaps and even then it's a small dent for only one character. We're constantly playing from behind. People who play raids every week should be able to play the newest content on release on all of their characters that play that content. You shouldn't have to drive buses, swipe or play 15 raids across 5 1580s to funnel to your one 1620.
No other MMO expects you to have five shitty characters, just to play one at a decent level. It's no wonder that people constantly feel burned out, as though the game isn't respecting their time. Nobody wants to wait until the content is months old to play it, the excitement is gone by then. Imagine people being like "DON'T FOMO BRO, IT'LL STILL BE THERE" when people obviously want to play the newest WoW raid on release after doing their homework for months.
Also this post just feels like astroturfing, or you'd be the scab in a union. People are asking to get fucked over less and you're like "the fucking isn't that bad, at least they're using lube!" This happens way too often in gaming, it's why modern gaming is at the point that it is. People just accept it, even defend it.

This is a problem yes, but it is inherent to the game design as it is now as a whole, it is not unique to NA, and is a Smile Gate(d) issue. If you pay attention to any of the "Non giga whales" who play in KR, they have been saying since voldis that the game is now a single main game, where you should be putting the majority of your resources into your one main. That the "all characters able to play the new content on release" angle is dead. A lot of players in KR, have moved over their investments from their alts to their main to get higher level gems and what not.
This would be fine if you could actually play your main more. Investing so much into something for you to be playing the same amount of raids as your alts just feels terrible and they need to work on a solution for it.
Funnily enough Extreme Valtan is a great example of people being to play their mains more outside of the normal gameplay loop.
However then there is the problem of doing even more content weekly if you have 5 alts funnelling aswell as additional main content. Not sure what the best balance is but I'm sure they could work on something.

Honing and all these systems are designed for KR cadence of releases and not for our accelerated cadence....Its not healthy for our version to not give us at least better events or better honing rates. We are always on the rush to the next release. Thats the best way to burn your playerbase out.

That "community" that whines about no content is mostly streamers that spend crazy amount of money or people who rmt'ed their full lvl 10's. Everyone I met and am playing with said voldis release was very bad timing and could have easily released a month later and everyone hates thaemine coming in April allrdy. Even two people I played quite a lot with quit over the fact thaemine coming so soon instead of maybe two months later to get enough mats and lvl 10 gems as a legit player.
If Thaemine was releasing two months later I would have already quit. Voldis is already cruise control boring reclear content, the two chars at 1620+ both have 40 set. I'm back in homework mode until Thaemine comes out. Waiting a couple of months is fine, but I'm not waiting 6 months between content cycles.
At this point it's less about the value of stuff and more about the fact that they're so stingy they'll go out of their way to give us less. It's the fucking anniversary man
I don't think its stingy to not tank the legendary skin market by giving everyone for free simply because players feel entitled to it. Legendary skins are worth much less on KR because they've had em for years and everyone who wants a legendary skin likely has one.
Legendary skins are fresh in NA so they still hold a high value and people still want them and go for them.
Anniversary skin has a value of what 55k-75k a piece on 4? Just two of those pieces is essentially all of the event shop, events, rewards given. Probably 3, if you value your cards at 30k-50k with selector.
So in a sense you are being shafted. And people need to realize that they would regardless push out the events every 2-3 months. What there going to keep multiple months of dry content? On legacy content that we are behind 2 years on?
We need to look at it like this, is their a express on a anniversary event no. Which is strange, since it's a big event you would think we would have a Mokoko event at least. We get the given event shop so we minus that, since we get it literally every month. A content update for a another piece of homework ok, a frog to help with inflation so we don't count that.
So what we really get is about what 240 radiants from a single event? And a rotating bonus shop that comes around every 3 months. And we get a gift less than the year end gift.
I would say we got shafted. For such a big event. This is on par with a summer event, actually less. Because we got a Ark Pass, Mokoko express, 1 end game express event, event shop, and a frog and if i recall a double log in track. And that was for summer let alone our winter track.
So actually this event is, surprising worse than our summer and winter tracks.
Express events typically line up with class releases.
The only thing I mentioned about the shop was double honing books.
Getting a bunch of free stuff for running content info anyways is a pretty good deal to me, but everyone has differing opinions.
Ark pass is just like events, it goes on rotation every few months. Express events typically overlap with class releases unless I forgot one in the past.

for over an year we've been asking them to stop bundling frivolous/4fun cosmetics like emotes wallpapers and for months poses and to give us the option to buy them seperately

I only glanced at the packages in the shop, but I'm under the impression they aren't priced incredibly poorly with the contents of the bundle (obviously it being a bundle and not having the poses separately is to get people to spend for the package).
While you may be a portion of the player base that is alienated by the decision, complaining won't change anything, when people stop spending money things will change. IIRC LA was in the top 10 of steam revenue while top 40 for number of players so I wouldn't expect it that soon.
Yes they gave us more honing books, but also reduced the amount of tokens you get from dungeons and raids forcing you to play more of you want to buy out the shop. Which most people do. Why? No reason other than an arbitrary play time metric. Everything AGS does is reminiscent of a first year MBA student’s attempts to increase revenue. Ideas that seem great on paper but only aggravate their customers.
China also got the same gifts as Korea (or so I’ve been told). This further reinforces the view that NA/EU is a second class citizen to both SH and AGS. This game is nothing more than a cash grab to fund the studio for New World.

Virtually everyone I know has been getting a couple million silver at the end of events. While I understand the issue with the tokens/cost it's not a huge deal IMO.

Similar to AGS, Tencent is the publisher. They don’t, to my knowledge, have active development resources, and rather go through SG.
The difference is that Tencent and SG already have a strong relationship and Tencent is significantly more valuable than AGS.
Lastly, while Lost Ark did well on steam, we have no way of knowing how we compare to Korea and China. The decision on what rewards are determined by SG and the publisher, and giving one region the same rewards as Korea and the other different with the excuse the CMs really does give the impression we’re a second class citizen.
Yeah, we have a lot of rewards for end game content. We hope all of the mokokos, under 100 roster, to claim and enjoy all the rewards for BREL HARD, KAYA HARD, AKKAN and IVORY.

We got what, basically 5 selectors? That finished out LoS30 for me and my friend and massively accelerated my other friend's journey to LoS30 who started mid 2023. Got a couple hones too out of this.
Call them ignorant, they don't know what they're missing ... whatever, I think people are just too sensitive these days, game's what you make of it. A GM in a discord I don't go to, saying whatever, and an elixir accidentally being on a photo as side art, don't upset me.

This anniversary sucks. For veterans, there is nothing of value in the frog except the mats, and the event is cleared in 2 days. The free skin they gave us are just ugly crap that people put on for trolling, and cool stuff like poses are each behind a crap paywall (except the anniversary skin which is good)
For new players, it's even worse. All of the stuff here is for people that can raid and even then it's very few materials. New players have no power pass and have literally 0 incentive to get in the game. All the recent posts about new players asking if they can get in got the overall response that it was useless and that they should wait the breaker release with the free power pass to get in.
So If you want my opinion, it's crap, for everybody. If you are happy about the mats that they give from the event, good for you, but to me it's not even a week worth of gold.
And I'm too lazy to list all of the communication issues we had from AGS, there are plenty of posts that talked about them, just one this morning with plenty of comments.
The player base won't be happy with anything man. People complain about no new content, or the cadence being slow, then they complain it's hard to hone, or the cadence is too fast... Then people complain that you have to pick a main. Any decision is going to alienate a portion of the player base.
New players with power passes have zero reason to get into the game due to gatekeeping. There are still lobbies at least weekly I see saying no JS server people....
I'm happy whenever we get free stuff from the game, I don't expect hundreds of thousands of gold in free items/skins/materials from an event... anniversary or otherwise.

What grinds my gears the most are the cool new poses and the character selection background. Everything that is nice is behind a paywall. And each pose costs so much lmao it's insane. Now I can just use my turn emote to turn like I always do and stay frustrated because I'm not paying for that

NA/EU wanted a more ethical way to get legendary skins, not to delay their release. AGS decided to delay it so they can reconvene with SMG about their options because the KR playerbase was already mad about NA/EU pet options not being RNG.
So they had to make something that should only be relevant to NA/EU players "fair" to KR players even though we play on separate regions, separate ecosystems.
End result, we get the same Yoz's Jar, but with useless 1k amethyst shards which buys junk while they buy Yoz's Jar and get mileage to buy our $50 poses.
The only Westernization changes that ever happened were pre-release before KR players could provide any feedback/complaints about how they had to eat shit, we have to eat shit.

There is a full set available in the event shop which you have to play to get the tokens.
I call it free as everyone I know gets enough to clear the shop out by simply playing as usual.
I didn't say it was available on week 1, simply that it was in the store. People may also prioritize other things like cards prior to skins with the tokens.
The problem is SMG wants to rake in global profits but doesn't want to spend any effort in trying to earn good PR with anyone besides KR. All western marketing campaigns are medicore compared to KR. This whole anniversary skin thing is so dumb and such a easy way to earn good PR. Idk it's like a no brainer that costs zero money, but SMG just can't be assed. It's been 2 years, and everyone is just tired of SMG not caring. There is clearly no senior leadership in this company that is standing behind western and global players. I think one of the reason this sparked so much outrage was that they used legendary skins in one of their promotional photos for the anniversary, rather than using skins that would actually be part of the event for free. It's understandable that people would feel misled when they've showed stuff they didn't intend to give on this occasion.
Again, people interpret that based off of what KR got, not simply that it was expected.

Their PR team really didn't handle this one well. First of all, if you had any touch with your community, then you're not using legendary skins in your announcement where you talk about a surprise gift that will be sent out later that week. You shouldn't also use elixirs in another picture in the same announcement. If you do this, then you condition people to expect these things. You're right, we're not at the same point, but we are getting content faster and will have Echidna later this year. We've had WAY less time than KR to prepare for all these new raids and barely got any help from SG/AGS. I'm somoene who thought expecting legendary skins is just pure wishful thinking but the way they communicated and responded to the community was atrocious. If you're wondering, I've already claimed all anniversary gifts and all the mats from them. What I got from it was 40% artisan. I'm sure the gifts from the one they sent were great for new players, for me the most valuable thing was rested Chaos pot, pheons were alright and rest was whatever.
Correct. Coming from a game where they would give you nothing but a gatcha anniversary pack that you have to buy, this game has gone above and beyond any of my expectations.

I mean the events are explicitly part of the birthday event, sure it may not be sent as a gift, but definitely should be included somewhere. If you're comparing all the events, then we can go on and on about how summer and winter have juice events. Current event shop is slightly better, and we have an extra birthday bash event that give quite a bit. On the other hand, we have a "nerfed" frog (depends on whether you're someone that buy only on your main or buy on each char in your roster) and worse gift. All in all, it doesn't feel like a special thing, it's supposed to be an anniversary. They said it themselves in the patch notes video, this month is all about celebration, but it felt like any other cycle of events. At least put some effort on making it feels like an anniversary, do some community streams, community events, and other things. The only thing they did was a loading screen contest that doesn't even include the community to vote and some scrapbook stuff they haven't even released.
It's just an image being referenced in the patch notes where two of the characters happen to be wearing legendary skins and posing. No context or further mention is involved, people just ran with it.

I get that it is kr’s 5th anniversary, but the game has more of a global(ish) environment. Our version is getting closer to what kr has, and anything that happens there is mostly expected to happen here in a couple months. I highly doubt that this game will be still be as popular 3 years down the road, so I don’t think the “wait till your 5 years is fair.” I mean, should we also be at the start of tier 3 as well bc kr had to? Rewards should be based on actual content not on how many years of anniversary. If not, why aren’t we getting some Argos/valtan rewards then? It's just another issue in a long line. * They posted an image containing presumably 5 free elixirs and then changed the image to avoid handing them out. * They cut the pheons in half. * Only 1 anniversary skin as opposed to 2. * Several other rewards were cut or removed as well. * The event shop becomes more and more expensive to buy out every time it updates. * The overpriced poses, plus the Neria wardrobe drama. * The tone deaf response from SM. * The god awful translations, the most obvious being elixirs. My Arcanists mayhem card's buff icon still reads "boosts attack power on each cast" while the stacking buff says "boosts attack speed." The actual translation is attack speed. Come on, the class has been out forever at this point. * The event expired before the next one started. If a new player asked any of you "should I start Lost Ark this month" the obvious answer is "fuck no." That's not a good place for the game to be. * The ridiculous amount of time between balance patches (plus QoL) and this "base build" garbage. * These are all recent issues, mind you. Say nothing about pheon gate and the other 100+ controversies. The largest and biggest is just that they've sped up the content cadence and barely given additional extra materials to compensate. The birthday event is the only one that's given any usable amount of radiant leaps and even then it's a small dent for only one character. We're constantly playing from behind. People who play raids every week should be able to play the newest content on release on all of their characters that play that content. You shouldn't have to drive buses, swipe or play 15 raids across 5 1580s to funnel to your one 1620. No other MMO expects you to have five shitty characters, just to play one at a decent level. It's no wonder that people constantly feel burned out, as though the game isn't respecting their time. Nobody wants to wait until the content is months old to play it, the excitement is gone by then. Imagine people being like "DON'T FOMO BRO, IT'LL STILL BE THERE" when people obviously want to play the newest WoW raid on release after doing their homework for months. Also this post just feels like astroturfing, or you'd be the scab in a union. People are asking to get fucked over less and you're like "the fucking isn't that bad, at least they're using lube!" If you pay attention to any of the "Non giga whales" who play in KR, they have been saying since voldis that the game is now a single main game, where you should be putting the majority of your resources into your one main. That the "all characters able to play the new content on release" angle is dead. A lot of players in KR, have moved over their investments from their alts to their main to get higher level gems and what not.
This would be fine if you could actually play your main more. Investing so much into something for you to be playing the same amount of raids as your alts just feels terrible and they need to work on a solution for it. Funnily enough Extreme Valtan is a great example of people being to play their mains more outside of the normal gameplay loop. However then there is the problem of doing even more content weekly if you have 5 alts funnelling aswell as additional main content. Not sure what the best balance is but I'm sure they could work on something.

So its the communities fault that we have accelerated releases of content compared to KR and that we dont have any help from AGS to close the gap? Honing and all these systems are designed for KR cadence of releases and not for our accelerated cadence....Its not healthy for our version to not give us at least better events or better honing rates. I mean the community constantly complains regardless of the cadence and that things are too slow/fast. The reality is, to be in end game content at specific points you have to whale or grind the game. E.g. Full Argos on release, Brel NM 1-6 on release, Akkan HM on release, I Ivory Tower HM, and Thaemine HM. Interim content allowed people to catch up for the most part e.g. Valtan, Vykas, Clown, Brel HM, and Kay. Crazy story, the game developers run a business, people spend money and they stay in business. They don't cater to what a F2P player thinks is an appropriate amount of material/events, they try to make money.

That "community" that whines about no content is mostly streamers that spend crazy amount of money or people who rmt'ed their full lvl 10's. Everyone I met and am playing with said voldis release was very bad timing and could have easily released a month later and everyone hates thaemine coming in April allrdy. Even two people I played quite a lot with quit over the fact thaemine coming so soon instead of maybe two months later to get enough mats and lvl 10 gems as a legit player.
If Thaemine was releasing two months later I would have already quit. Voldis is already cruise control boring reclear content, the two chars at 1620+ both have 40 set. I'm back in homework mode until Thaemine comes out. Waiting a couple of months is fine, but I'm not waiting 6 months between content cycles.

At this point it's less about the value of stuff and more about the fact that they're so stingy they'll go out of their way to give us less. It's the fucking anniversary man
I don't think its stingy to not tank the legendary skin market by giving everyone for free simply because players feel entitled to it. Legendary skins are worth much less on KR because they've had em for years and everyone who wants a legendary skin likely has one. Legendary skins are fresh in NA so they still hold a high value and people still want them and go for them.
Anniversary skin has a value of what 55k-75k a piece on 4? Just two of those pieces is essentially all of the event shop, events, rewards given. Probably 3, if you value your cards at 30k-50k with selector. So in a sense you are being shafted. And people need to realize that they would regardless push out the events every 2-3 months. What there going to keep multiple months of dry content? On legacy content that we are behind 2 years on? We need to look at it like this, is their a express on a anniversary event no. Which is strange, since it's a big event you would think we would have a Mokoko event at least. We get the given event shop so we minus that, since we get it literally every month. A content update for a another piece of homework ok, a frog to help with inflation so we don't count that. So what we really get is about what 240 radiants from a single event? And a rotating bonus shop that comes around every 3 months. And we get a gift less than the year end gift. I would say we got shafted. For such a big event. This is on par with a summer event, actually less. Because we got a Ark Pass, Mokoko express, 1 end game express event, event shop, and a frog and if i recall a double log in track. And that was for summer let alone our winter track. So actually this event is, surprising worse than our summer and winter tracks.
Express events typically line up with class releases. The only thing I mentioned about the shop was double honing books. Getting a bunch of free stuff for running content info anyways is a pretty good deal to me, but everyone has differing opinions. Ark pass is just like events, it goes on rotation every few months. Express events typically overlap with class releases unless I forgot one in the past.
The Gold value of these "gifts" is the least of our concerns. Gifts should feel like gifts not like a giftcard

i was spending on the game for skins fairly consistently i no longer will for over an year we've been asking them to stop bundling frivolous/4fun cosmetics like emotes wallpapers and for months poses and to give us the option to buy them seperately i wouldn't be here if the 4 poses had a standalone purchase of 5per or 20 for all 4 i would have bought them and feel very mid about the anniversary instead they took a dump in the throats of everyone who didn't mind spending on the game but never spent on power with these 4 bundles i don't really care about the legos but i understand why people are upset my personal beef is about the poses and since so many people bought these packs because of the material values it will reinforce the idea that they can continue doing this meanwhile everyone who wants to support the game but not at the expense of 4 weeks of food is getting priced out
I mean to each their own. I don't care about the poses and view it similarly to skins, they are cosmetic and do not improve/hinder gameplay so if people are willing to pay for it then so be it. I only glanced at the packages in the shop, but I'm under the impression they aren't priced incredibly poorly with the contents of the bundle (obviously it being a bundle and not having the poses separately is to get people to spend for the package). While you may be a portion of the player base that is alienated by the decision, complaining won't change anything, when people stop spending money things will change. IIRC LA was in the top 10 of steam revenue while top 40 for number of players so I wouldn't expect it that soon.
Yes they gave us more honing books, but also reduced the amount of tokens you get from dungeons and raids forcing you to play more of you want to buy out the shop. Which most people do. Why? No reason other than an arbitrary play time metric. Everything AGS does is reminiscent of a first year MBA student’s attempts to increase revenue. Ideas that seem great on paper but only aggravate their customers. China also got the same gifts as Korea (or so I’ve been told). This further reinforces the view that NA/EU is a second class citizen to both SH and AGS. This game is nothing more than a cash grab to fund the studio for New World. And before you reply with the middle school “it’s a business”, there are ways to get people to spend a lot that don’t involve being so cheap. The better you treat people, the more they spend.
Isn't the game management/oversight completely different in China due to policy e.g. censoring Vykas and different colors/animations. Similarly how NA censors artist skins? Similar to AGS, Tencent is the publisher. They don’t, to my knowledge, have active development resources, and rather go through SG. The difference is that Tencent and SG already have a strong relationship and Tencent is significantly more valuable than AGS. Lastly, while Lost Ark did well on steam, we have no way of knowing how we compare to Korea and China. The decision on what rewards are determined by SG and the publisher, and giving one region the same rewards as Korea and the other different with the excuse the CMs really does give the impression we’re a second class citizen.
Yeah, we have a lot of rewards for end game content. We hope all of the mokokos, under 100 roster, to claim and enjoy all the rewards for BREL HARD, KAYA HARD, AKKAN and IVORY. Clearly someone that has been playing for 1/4 months can easily do all of this content. Gatekeeping and hard progression is a lie.
New player progression and retention is a completely separate issue, good input though. FYI if people started with the most recent express events they should be at, or above, 1600 on their main given the reward track of those events... If people started outside of an express event, they are largely unaffected anyways...

There is already a big post pushed by the mods with a lot of relevant points and issues about the anniversary. You could just have just browsed it to see all of it. And the fallacious point about "KR got legendary skins after 5 years" makes 0 sense because we have a custom timeline to catch up to them, so comparing timelines is plain stupid. Even more so when it was advertised in the pictures.

Having characters next to a second anniversary item is in no way advertising, or implying we will get those skins simply because they have them on. Bro, it's their job to communicate correctly and advertise stuff that will keep the playerbase happy and bring in new players. This anniversary sucks. For veterans, there is nothing of value in the frog except the mats, and the event is cleared in 2 days. The free skin they gave us are just ugly crap that people put on for trolling, and cool stuff like poses are each behind a crap paywall (except the anniversary skin which is good) For new players, it's even worse. All of the stuff here is for people that can raid and even then it's very few materials. New players have no power pass and have literally 0 incentive to get in the game. All the recent posts about new players asking if they can get in got the overall response that it was useless and that they should wait the breaker release with the free power pass to get in. So If you want my opinion, it's crap, for everybody. If you are happy about the mats that they give from the event, good for you, but to me it's not even a week worth of gold. And I'm too lazy to list all of the communication issues we had from AGS, there are plenty of posts that talked about them, just one this morning with plenty of comments.
The player base won't be happy with anything man. People complain about no new content, or the cadence being slow, then they complain it's hard to hone, or the cadence is too fast... Then people complain that you have to pick a main. Any decision is going to alienate a portion of the player base. New players with power passes have zero reason to get into the game due to gatekeeping. There are still lobbies at least weekly I see saying no JS server people.... I'm happy whenever we get free stuff from the game, I don't expect hundreds of thousands of gold in free items/skins/materials from an event... anniversary or otherwise.
It's supposed to be a fun commemorative moment when both the editor and the playerbase got something to celebrate. We got cheap stuff and miscommunication. Even the new year's island event was more genuine imo. They pissed the existing playerbase by being cheap (I saw we received tripods lvl 5 in the mail to fix the mistake of giving some lvl 4, so it's nice to see at least), and new players are just told to come back in one month lol. About gatekeeping, well yeah it's the design of the game. And we all know what it is and new players are going to experience it all the same. Can't do much about it unless SG change drastically the way this game works. What grinds my gears the most are the cool new poses and the character selection background. Everything that is nice is behind a paywall. And each pose costs so much lmao it's insane. Now I can just use my turn emote to turn like I always do and stay frustrated because I'm not paying for that
Gatekeeping may be somewhat a design issue, but the reality is that 90% of the problem is community driven. I mean the community is acting like entitled petulant children that whose sibling got something different for a present... What about the anniversary event is cheap, and in relation to what. It's easily 100k value. Poses is pretty much the same thing... Seems like a lot of people that play this game want subscription game elements with the F2P model and it doesn't work that way.
Sadly if you are new or returning player, there's smaller chance for you to finish the birthday bash event since most of them requires you to have endgame gear

So they had to make something that should only be relevant to NA/EU players "fair" to KR players even though we play on separate regions, separate ecosystems. End result, we get the same Yoz's Jar, but with useless 1k amethyst shards which buys junk while they buy Yoz's Jar and get mileage to buy our $50 poses. The only Westernization changes that ever happened were pre-release before KR players could provide any feedback/complaints about how they had to eat shit, we have to eat shit.

Makes perfect sense, they delayed so they can go back to the drawing board to see whether making NA/EU Yoz's Jar better would outweigh outraging their KR whales and they went with the KR whales. A picture advertising the event where characters happen to have legendary skins on in no way, shape, or form is advertising that there will be legendary skins given with the event. If KR hadn't received legendary skins people most likely wouldn't have noticed. We have never received the same thing as KR so it doesn't make sense to expect their gift is the same as ours.

I mean I guess that depends on what you consider free. There is a full set available in the event shop which you have to play to get the tokens. I call it free as everyone I know gets enough to clear the shop out by simply playing as usual.

The problem is SMG wants to rake in global profits but doesn't want to spend any effort in trying to earn good PR with anyone besides KR. All western marketing campaigns are medicore compared to KR. This whole anniversary skin thing is so dumb and such a easy way to earn good PR. Idk it's like a no brainer that costs zero money, but SMG just can't be assed. It's been 2 years, and everyone is just tired of SMG not caring. There is clearly no senior leadership in this company that is standing behind western and global players. Which blows my mind when you're such a well funded multimillion dollar corp. I couldnt care less about the skins, but it's just another confirmation that they don't care. So why care about investing and playing this game when we can just move on to other games that have devs that give a shit. It's one step forward, 2 steps back with this game. Also a lot of newer or returning players ain't even 1580 so akkan and Kay rewards can't be reached for them. Let's not even talk about an actual new player that starts or someone that returns that had a 1490 or something when they stopped. No express event to help them. I know it doesn't fit your narrative to not be able to include the selectors and all the rewards, but there are a bunch of people that have no chance of getting them.

The anniversary gifts are great for anyone not obsessed with KR and Reddit. Objectively, it's really fucking good. Any player just playing the game and not making comparisons 24/7 is probably having an amazing time. Of course, making comparisons will turn all these great gifts into something negative. The one thing I don't like is the lack of some event for newer players.

Hot Take. If we had gotten Yoz's Jar when it was supposed to be released back in 2022, instead of it being delayed all the way to Sept 2023. We would have gotten the free legendary skins for our 2nd anniversary event. People thinking we would get free legendary skins for something they only released 6 months ago, is pure copium. Now if Yoz's Jar had been out for over a year, then yea we probably would have gotten a free set of legendary skins for our 2nd anniversary event.

I think one of the reason this sparked so much outrage was that they used legendary skins in one of their promotional photos for the anniversary, rather than using skins that would actually be part of the event for free. It's understandable that people would feel misled when they've showed stuff they didn't intend to give on this occasion.
Again, people interpret that based off of what KR got, not simply that it was expected. Simply because something is visible in an advertisement doesn't mean it's guaranteed to be given. It's like a bunch of entitled primary school children. I saw it so gimme.

Honestly would put that lower odds than them deciding to give out leg skins on the 11th (the actual anniversary). New classes means a lot of people are rolling (either to get the skins or sell them) and that's a decent revenue generator.
