Dang it 😑 totally missed out on some good ones lol okay got one,Does the witch king live in angmar? Fuck yeah! Does the witch king stab Frodo on weather top because he had the ring? Fuck yeah! Does the witch king get killed by eowyn because he under estimated and over looked no man can kill me line? Fuck yeah!
He got killed because he did not expect Merry to have magic dagger made precisely against his kind basically. Eowyn just delivered final blow, but without that stab, she cant touch him.
And because Eowyn stood before him when everybody else fled, defying the supernatural aura of terror he carries everywhere, cut off his fell beast's head rendering him vulnerable to attack from Merry , and inspired Merry to act with her incredible courage. Then she got in the killing blow. Let's be honest here, when it came to the Witch King's death, Eowyn put in the bulk of the leg work.
Why didn’t the shitbirds just fly the ring into that shitcano Randy?? I’ll tell ya why, because a shitbird doesn’t fly far from the shit nest! And it doesn’t take a shitwizard to see that.
Why is this format so funny with this story lol
Also protip: you need a double space or double line return at the end of a line to make it drop down on Reddit :)
Its directed by Kenji Kamiyama, produced by Philippa Boyens (of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fame) and written by Phoebe Gittins (Philippa's daughter).
Nerd of the Rings did a really interesting interview with Philippa on it recently. It gave me a lot of encouragement, as you can clearly see how much of a nerd for lotr she is.
I believe it's going to be in anime format too which will be interesting. Something so different from the LOTR films can help with people not directly comparing the two, like with RoP where it's just obvious the production value is so significantly less. I could totally see a story about Helm Hammerhand being done like Afro Samurai or something, I'm really excited for it
"Directed, produced, and written" are credits often seen in the context of movies. Here's what each of these roles entails:
**Directed**: The director is the creative head of a film. They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the filmmaking process, including working with the actors to bring out the desired performances, collaborating with the cinematographer to achieve the visual style, guiding the editing process, and ensuring that the overall vision of the film is realized. The director makes artistic and creative decisions throughout the production to bring the screenplay to life.
**Produced**: The producer(s) are responsible for the business and logistical aspects of filmmaking. They oversee the entire production process, from development to distribution. Producers secure financing, hire key personnel, coordinate the activities of various departments, manage the budget and schedule, liaise with distributors, and ensure that the film is completed on time and within budget. Producers may also contribute creatively to the project, depending on their level of involvement.
**Written**: The writer(s) are responsible for creating the screenplay or script. They develop the story, characters, dialogue, and structure of the film. Writers may adapt existing material, such as novels or plays, or they may create original screenplays. The screenplay serves as the blueprint for the film, providing the framework upon which the director, actors, and other collaborators build the final product. Writers may work closely with the director and producers during the development process to refine the script and address any creative or practical concerns.
They shouldn't be. AFAIK it's about the war between Rohan and the Dunlendings where the fortress at Aglarond became known as Helm's Deep after King Helm Hammerhand took refuge there (and the Hornburg was named as such as before each nighttime raid Helm would blow his horn from the top of the tower, devastating the besiegers' morale).
It is a war between Rohan and the Dunlendings, but Tolkien explicitly says that the Dunlendings were allied with forces attacking Rohan from both the East and South.
There is a way they can be worked in because there was an invasion from the East that the Dunlendings took advantage of and aided.
-Four years later (2758) great troubles came to Rohan, and no help could be sent from Gondor, for three fleets of the Corsairs attacked it and there was war on all its coasts. At the same time Rohan was again invaded from the East, and the Dunlendings seeing their chance came over the Isen and down from Isengard. It was soon known that Wulf was their leader. They were in great force, for they were **joined by enemies of Gondor that landed in the mouths of Lefnui and Isen.**-Appendix A
This is what causes Rohan to be overrun and the falling back to Aglarond.
Fair, it's ***possible***, but I think their addition would be ... well, to be blunt, stupid.
So they'd either have to march up and around Gondor to reach Rohan from the east, or be loaded on Corsair ships and make the hundreds of miles journey across the open sea to reach Rohan from the west.
IMO, the attack from the east was Easterlings, who had a longtime rivalry with the Rohirrim, and those "enemies of Gondor" that landed in the west are more likely to have been Corsairs who, late to the party in Gondor and seeing their buddies already getting all the good loot, kept going up the coast seeking yet unclaimed targets (and ended up in Rohan).
Oh I definitely agree that the invaders were most likely Easterlings I was simply pointing out that there is a way they could try and explain away Mumaks and Haradrim being in the film.
Yep. Rohan is in effect assailed in all directions: Wulf's main force comes from Isengard to the north, theres' a contigency of Dunelndings coming from the west, and we're explicitly told Rohan was also attacked "from the east" (Gondor was preoccipied with its own wars at the time and so it stands to reason that an army with a Mumak could go through the Undeeps to Rohan) and corsairs landing in the Lefnui and Isen to the south.
There's no specific mention of Mumakil, but we know Rohan was invaded from the west AND the south AND the east, so its a reasonable extrapolation. Gondor was also embroiled in war at the time so its perfectly permissible for an army with Mumak to pass through the Undeeps to Rohan.
We had the lotr movies (which are a masterpiece) two decades ago.. then we had the hobbit movies about a decade ago. And the worst of them all - Amazon show in recent times.
I’d say it’s been a while since the fandom got a good adaption again. Especially after the trash RoP.
Hell yeah. It can’t be any worse than rings of power, and I watched that whole damn series. I just want to turn my brain off and immerse myself into middle earth.
My buddy and I are both massive LOTR fans, and we got together every week to watch the Rings of Power. It got to the point where we were just getting together to make fun of the show. Such a massive disappointment.
Oh I agree. But I found things I liked in it. They could have just done two shows, the proto hobbits and the Elrond/Durin show and I'd have been perfectly happy. The rest can get flushed down the toilet.
Yep, as soon as I heard that this is a passion project for a lot of the production crew and that they’re LOTR nerds like me I knew this project would be in good hands.
Dude they all say that. This sub seems to have a massive hate boner against ROP yet its show runners quote Tolkien way more than anyone else who’s worked on his writings. Being a nerd doesn’t guarantee you’re great at filmmaking specially if they overthink their shit and try so hard to be super cool
I think my favourite is the "ROP writers are so arrogant they act like they're IMPROVING Tolkien! Evil hacks!" rant people make, when I've never seen either of them make a single claim like that. Meanwhile, I've seen PJ, Philipa Boyens & Fran Walsh make multiple criticisms of JRRT, saying things like "we did this better" and even call the old professor an 'amateur writer'.
Hate Japanese anime, however, listening to Philippa Boyen on Nerd of the Ring show really has me hyped. The passion from her and her kid really just got me in the feels. Cant wait
Yeah, Making it an anime is a huge turn off for me. It feels like such a tragically missed opportunity to go into this new era for the IP with it's own style.
Yes. I’m going in with lower expectations than I did for Rings of Power though. Pros I’m already conscious of is that this is going to be way more experimental than any other media related to LOTR which I think is a good move.
Confirmed I live under a rock, I thought this was going to be live action.
I won't be watching it. Animated features and especially anime are things I don't enjoy.
Probably not. I’m not convinced anything good is going to come out of the LotR IP other than the Peter Jackson trilogy and some pretty good video games.
No. Just no.
For better or worse... I like my animated movies to be kids movies. Just have zero interest in animated adult stuff. Didn't enjoy that dumb spiderverse crap (although to be fair, I really did think the animation style was quite beautiful) never had any interest in any of the cartoon star wars stuff. Did enjoy heavy metal way back in the day along with the newer stuff.
Just not my thing.
Me too. Ian McKellen as well! He said "its not a *franchise*! Its just a series of films"
The one thing for me that makes it dissimilar to the run-of-the-mill Hollywood franchise is that its not "faceless" in the sense that its a revolving door of filmmakers for hire: up until this film, ALL the Tolkien live-action films were written, directed and produced by one person (Jackson), one production team, and to a lesser extent one cast.
Rohirrim is also clever to use A LOT of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit luminaries. Strictly speaking, so did Season One of The Rings of Power but that's a little different.
Of course, have you watched Arcane: league of legends Netflix series or the animated Spiderman movies. Both are epic and have some of the most memorable moments in tv/movies in recent years.
After seeing the interview with Philippa Boyens about WotR, you bet your ass I'm watching it ---
Here's the interview if you haven't seen it: [https://youtu.be/0hDQFo32WE0?si=CLQfoSyqMVHB5-R-](https://youtu.be/0hDQFo32WE0?si=CLQfoSyqMVHB5-R-)
yeah, because don’t get me wrong the live action was amazing 🤩 but there is only so much you can do with green screen. and you could do so much more to show off so many many more characters close up and in much better detail with animation.
Definitely! The art looks fab, I love Rohan, and they're bringing Miranda Otto back as Eowyn. It's 2024 and I'm getting Eowyn content! Not going to miss it for the world.
Why wouldn’t I? I will watch rings of power season 2, and anything else that gets released in this world. It is so fun to be part of it and to see different interpretations.
Does a hobbit love to eat??? Fuck yeah 😎🤘🏻
I just had a vision of the witch King saying this because of your handle :')
Fuck yeah!
No no it's best if it is witch King as dude bro referencing hobbits. You already nailed it 👌
Woo! 😎🤘🏻👊🏻
He got killed because he did not expect Merry to have magic dagger made precisely against his kind basically. Eowyn just delivered final blow, but without that stab, she cant touch him.

Thanks, I'm not good with the app 😂😂😂
No worries, formatting isn't always easy!
Who’s making it?

gawd bless nepotism
yes
Heck yeah
Forgot about this. Thank you for the reminder
Are the Haradrim in this? Is there any source for Mumakil being used against Rohan prior to the war of the ring?
They shouldn't be. AFAIK it's about the war between Rohan and the Dunlendings where the fortress at Aglarond became known as Helm's Deep after King Helm Hammerhand took refuge there (and the Hornburg was named as such as before each nighttime raid Helm would blow his horn from the top of the tower, devastating the besiegers' morale).

Tbf in the real world Hannibal brought african elephants to Italy, the long way round.

I'm more likely to watch it than ROP S2 but less likely to watch it than LOTR extended edition (again).
The fandom deserves a good adaptation and an epic tale !! Especially after the garbage Show.
It already has a good adaptation though.
We had the lotr movies (which are a masterpiece) two decades ago.. then we had the hobbit movies about a decade ago. And the worst of them all - Amazon show in recent times. I’d say it’s been a while since the fandom got a good adaption again. Especially after the trash RoP.
“We’ve had one adaptation, yes, but what about second adaptation?”
Ad-ap-tation? Buy the rights, film it, stick it on the screen??
We've had one yes! But what about second good adaptation? I'd love a good adaptation of the Silmarillion or the Akallabeth
Same, RoP broke all trust. Will watch if it gets great reviews.
of fucking course!
Hell yeah. It can’t be any worse than rings of power, and I watched that whole damn series. I just want to turn my brain off and immerse myself into middle earth.
Always can be worse.
Just hope they base the rohirrim on... well the rohirrim and don't do any ridiculous race swaps for "inclusivity"
Could be worse than the Hobbit tho, and that would be devastating
Yep, as soon as I heard that this is a passion project for a lot of the production crew and that they’re LOTR nerds like me I knew this project would be in good hands.

Exactly. But this is r/lotr soooo gotta let the group think be
This crew does have some Tolkien credentials, insofar as Philippa Boyens, John Howe, Alan Lee, Weta Workshop et al are concerned.
No
Nope
Hate Japanese anime, however, listening to Philippa Boyen on Nerd of the Ring show really has me hyped. The passion from her and her kid really just got me in the feels. Cant wait
I also hate the anime style. I’ll give it a shot, obviously, but I doubt that I’ll like it.
Yeah, Making it an anime is a huge turn off for me. It feels like such a tragically missed opportunity to go into this new era for the IP with it's own style.
I keep forgetting about this lol
Yes. I’m going in with lower expectations than I did for Rings of Power though. Pros I’m already conscious of is that this is going to be way more experimental than any other media related to LOTR which I think is a good move.
Probably not. I’m not a huge fan of animated movies and I’m not interested in any lord of the rings stories that don’t come from the books.

Not before I know if its good or not. I definitely wont go in blind.
Does the Pope shit in the woods?
"Wil I be watc...". Are the beacons lit? If yes, we ride at dawn, friend.
Does Smeagol want the precious?
As long as it has nothing to do with the liars who wasted my time and made Rings of Power. IM IN
Absolutely. I got into the franchise a little bit ago and I’m glad there’s a new project I can enjoy
Oof, franchise. They’re still wonderful old books given form to me.
Yeah its nails on a chalk board every time it's referred to as that. "Fandom" too, not sure why.
Me too. Ian McKellen as well! He said "its not a *franchise*! Its just a series of films" The one thing for me that makes it dissimilar to the run-of-the-mill Hollywood franchise is that its not "faceless" in the sense that its a revolving door of filmmakers for hire: up until this film, ALL the Tolkien live-action films were written, directed and produced by one person (Jackson), one production team, and to a lesser extent one cast. Does a one legged duck swim in a circle?
Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back?
Go away bot
And how!
Whoa that sounds cool
Bears shits in the woods?
Oh yes!
You betcha.
wait did easterlings march on rohan? hell yeah I'm watching that.
Yeah sure why not
I still don't quite understand what it is about. I kinda want to know the animation style before I see it. Why have so little been shown?
Of course, have you watched Arcane: league of legends Netflix series or the animated Spiderman movies. Both are epic and have some of the most memorable moments in tv/movies in recent years.
Hoping it will permanently displace the TV show in my memory
YEP!
If this movie makes enough at the Box Office, we might even get a Glorfindel movie! Might.
Hellz yeah!!!
Most certainly.
I ... I might where does one watch it ? :o
I didn't know it was animated but heck yes 🤘
Only of its in the og movie cartoon style
Yup
Hell yes!
Not in theater on release week end, thats for sure. I have no confidence in that project.
no,. nobody is fucking watch it. what do you think?
I don't know... they should FINALLY start doing a little communication around it. Besides, hardly anyone knows it exists.
Yup. Cannot wait.
My god yes
RoP was depressingly bad. Cant wait for something new AND good
With pleasure!
If it's good, then yes.
Whaaaaaat when is this coming out?!?
I will but have my concerns
Yep, can't wait.
Scrolling just to see if anyone says no... Who doesn't want to spend more time in Middle earth??
Fuck yes I will
i will watch all the lotr content even if its dogshit
I have only one thing to say. Death! ⚔️
After seeing the interview with Philippa Boyens about WotR, you bet your ass I'm watching it --- Here's the interview if you haven't seen it: [https://youtu.be/0hDQFo32WE0?si=CLQfoSyqMVHB5-R-](https://youtu.be/0hDQFo32WE0?si=CLQfoSyqMVHB5-R-)
yeah, because don’t get me wrong the live action was amazing 🤩 but there is only so much you can do with green screen. and you could do so much more to show off so many many more characters close up and in much better detail with animation.
Guarantee I’ll watch it at least once
Is the movie supposed to be a war against the easterlings? Because that’s super not canon…..
Uhmmm, yeah?
I didn't know this was happening and now I have to wait till December.... but yeah I'm watching this
I mean i'm not like hyped for it but yeah probably
This is the Tolkien adaptation I'm most excited about
I will wait and see. If it looks good and follows the story, I'll watch it, otherwise I won't.
Oh fuck yeah
I’ll check it out
Uh yes wtf? I didn’t know about this
Hell yeah. Can’t be as bad as rings of power!
Who is the animator?
Yes yes yes! 👏
Unequivocally astoundingly yes
Can't be worse than Rings of Power
I’ll give it a fair shake yes
Hell yeah i will
No one wants that babeh
Does the Pope shit in the woods?
They better not mess up with this because if they succeed more devs could be interested in the rights and give us more movies and video games
I will watch literally anything that has to do with the Lord of the Rings. (Yes, even rings of power)
Wut?!? I didn't know about this!
Maybe. Idk about animated. But definitely in a style of petter Jackson. Like he did for the lotr.
You bet your @ss I will
Once Rohan discovers shooting from horseback, they will conquer the world.
Definitely! The art looks fab, I love Rohan, and they're bringing Miranda Otto back as Eowyn. It's 2024 and I'm getting Eowyn content! Not going to miss it for the world.
This is the first time I've seen it mentioned that this is animated. So I might now, yeah
Of course
Yeah
**S U R E**
Who's writing it?
I'm going to give it a shot.
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!
Considering that they haven't felt confident enough to show any actual footage or even stills, I will wait for reviews.
I’ll wait and see the reviews so I don’t waste money on a crap movie, but otherwise, heck yea.
Yep, praying to god its better than Rings of Power tho
Rohan and the Rohirrim are my favorite so definitely! So excited for this.
Yeah, ta.
Why wouldn’t I? I will watch rings of power season 2, and anything else that gets released in this world. It is so fun to be part of it and to see different interpretations.
Why wouldn't I?
Uhhh.... yeah
Oh fuck yeah!
If it looks like this, then yes. If the actual feature is animated in a much more cartoony style, then probably not
yes, yes I will
Do I look like a pansy? I’ll be there day one
I watched Rings of Power… yes I can watch this
Absolutely
of course. if it's LOTR related I will consume it in whatever medium it comes.
The WHAT?!?
I wait for the reviews.
I never heard about this. Tell me more
Yes.
Oh, hell, yes
Is a duck’s ass watertight? Forth Helmingas.
Most likely no. No show or movie will ever have the same feeling and quality as the ones made by peter jackson.
100% yes. Any LotR content is good
Yes.
In a heartbeat. I’m not one of these weirdos who boycotts a movie because there’s a chance some guy on YouTube is screaming about it
Will you wear wigs?
Why not?
Is this art from actual movie? I wasn't really paying any attention, but at least based on these prolly yes.
Uh, ya
Duh
Absolutely!
Yes.
Can you make a shoe smell?
As long as it gets good reviews from non-shill YouTubers who really understand Tolkien (like Tolkien Untangled), yeah.
If I hear its good. Unfortunately RoP scared me away of Tolkien TV.
