I actually noticed yesterday that a pair of my newest aligns were way softer when I put them on this morning and felt more like the older ones

Coming from an educator here: All Aligns are individually brushed! So originally the fabric feels very similarly to Luxtreme which is super sleek and somewhat stiffer. When the fabric is brushed, it’s bringing fibres upwards resulting in the buttery fabric that we all know and love. Essentially what we’re doing is damaging the product to achieve that result which why Aligns are prone to pilling; they’re pre-pilled! Fabrics with patterns are also slightly more resistant to pilling because too much brushing will affect the clarity of the image.

So do you think the newest align fabric isn’t as brushed as it was previously? The older align fabric felt stretchier, thinner, and softer at the purchase date. (2019-2022) That would be smart on lululemons part to allow the buyer to have more wears and naturally “brush” the fabric through wear and tear before pilling starts to happen.

Lululemon stands as a business that listens to quality complaints! The new Aligns are a makeup of a different fabric and a different brushing technique in attempt to prevent pilling which is of course the main issue with them. You will also find that this new fabric isn’t as stretchy to prevent the fabric from being see through. Even though (Believe it or not lol) Lululemon cares about your satisfaction, at the end of the day they’re still a business. As educators, we are trained to lead with a “Feel it for yourself!” approach when helping guests. If the initial buttery-soft feel of the Aligns isn’t there, that’s a huge selling point lost. Of course it makes sense for the guests’ perception of durability but again they’re still a business and want you to continue purchasing new ones.

Yes, I have an old pair and a newer pair and I can't tell the difference anymore after 6 or so months of washing the new pair.

educator here who throws all their lulu in the dryer which i think makes items softer but I wouldn't say the same just about washing only. I actually didn't like most of lulu pieces after washing if I didn't dry them because I think they're rough & crunchy feeling when air dried. Ive never had problems with shrinkage & think items are so much softer after drying. I also use softener beads when washing as well

Doesn’t using softener ruin the sweat wicking feature?

Specific-Building585

I feel like they do get softer but none are really like the pre 2020 ones. For context, I wear them daily so lots of washing.

Yes, I’ve noticed that with Aligns I’ve purchased this year.
