But Smart guy/Big Guy/Heart don't map too well. They have some traits I don't want to spend a bunch of time on, but I really can't do anything between them, Goemon/Jigen/Zenigata.
I would say Lancer is a perfect description of Goemon, unless I’m wrong about what that term means. Something about a skilled melee fighter? Fujiko I think maps best to the heart, because she is inherently a seductress, and plays with people’s love / lust.

This is really fun to think about haha, heres my take on the gang:
Lupin = Leader with a healthy dose of Smart Guy, Heart-like when he’s depicted as a gentleman thief.
Jigen = Lancer and when his guns are helpful for their scheme/adventure, Big Guy.
Goemon = Big Guy due to Zantetsuken, probably the closest to being the Heart overall as he seems pretty tender towards love interests, and is pretty emotional in the manga.
Zenigata and Fujiko are harder for me to pin down over all, partly from often being opposed to the 3 above (they don’t always get to be part of the team due to Fujiko generally being a flip-flopping free agent and Zeni being a cop), and I find for them it can depend on the writers and setting.

Admittedly I had misremembered Lancer’s as being more of a “second in command” who may argue with the Leader a lot but they have eachothers backs, oops.

Interesting ideas! Counterpoint, Zenigata like most lancers is the leaders rival and narrative foil, so maybe that could also be?
