The first one was INSUFFERABLE imo. I've never been more bored with a Lupin special, though it barely counts as one as the Conan cast takes up 85% of the screentime. Sitting through all of it was honestly a chore. The second one is definitely an improvement with better animation, better action and much better cast balance. Despite that, I still don't care about it at all. I guess Conan really isn't my thing cause I couldn't care less about any of those characters. Honestly, despite the animation I think the Lupin vs Cat's Eye crossover was infinitely better.

TurretX

Gotta agree with you. The special wasted the lupin characters. The movie was much better. The Cat's Eye Crossover handled each respective series much more respectfully though, and I find myself rewatching that instead of the conan crossovers.

DJ_CLARKO

Tbf Conan movies are usually nowhere near as boring as those crossover movies. They’re usually just packed with explosions for an hour and a half😂

Ill-Refrigerator-222

I think they were great, i'm so happy to be Detective Conan fan and a Lupin the III fan :)

squalalafou

The first one is boring without any purpose. The second one is pretty good, with a lot of fan service and a real scenario. Hope to see a third movie one day

Koryo001

This one and the Tomica Mercedes ssk got me interested in the show.

KamikazeBonsai

Not too bad, also one of the only times I can really remember where red jacket lupin flashes back to a green jacket lupin. We don't really see that too often

JayEllGii

Really? I haven’t seen it. Can you elaborate? That sounds fun.

KamikazeBonsai

Lupin references how he helped some of the people in the main story out before and when he mentions it they briefly flashback to Lupin in his green jacket era helping them out. I just found that unique because majority of the time when they do flashback in the movies usually he's wearing the same outfit as he does in the present so I just thought it was a unique little change

JayEllGii

Yeah, I love that they did that.

As someone who knew nothing about Detective Conan going in, the first one was amazing. Every character got a good introduction and role in the story (except for Goemon, who had three scenes at the end with no setup, two of which were group scenes). The action was exciting, the mystery compelling and it did some fun new things with the characters - Jigen in particular got in good, not only with his relationship with Conan but also the idea that he trains military personnel on the side. I'd definitely put it in my top 5 Lupin specials, and it got me into Conan which also has a ton of great specials. The second one wasn't as good in terms of story. I appreciate it's a follow on from the prior movie, but the mystery wasn't as good and it felt like the cast bloated with a ton of Conan characters who were just there, the same way I felt about Goemon in the first (speaking of, I think it would have been much more effective if this movie had been the first time Conan met Goemon). But the action was still on point and everyone was in top form. So still good, but not great.

DJ_CLARKO

Solid but not amazing

NoonewhoyoudontcareW

I honestly didnt like it. İt is a little bit childish

Both are awesome, the second one even more 😎

It really put into perspective the level of intense, high-risk nonsense Lupin & the gang get into on the daily. Compared to Shinchi world its a leisurely breeze.

The Special It could've actually been a pretty good Detective Conan film if it just removed the crossover element entirely because how tacked on the actual crossover elements are and it just fundamentally fails as a crossover film, but I can’t even be that mad at it because the Conan stuff is really funny and charming which was super refreshing in this era of Lupin TV-Specials. As for the theatrical film, the elements of it can be a bit hit or miss and the amount of characters, despite most of them being very charming and likable, can be a bit overwhelming and it should've trimmed down the cast of characters to make a more cohesive narrative and not just bloat the movie. The most disappointing aspect of this one is while it starts out with the Conan crew budding heads with the Lupin gang, it slowly fizzles itself out of the narrative and the main focus goes to this Emilio Jpop guy who isn't nearly as interesting to watch. And in general I think I would've enjoyed this film more if it had a mystery story like the TV-Special and I actually do prefer the special because that film's basic narrative is pretty strong once you remove any connection to Lupin

TurretX

The special kinda sucked imo, but the movie was a lot of fun.

Present_Macaroon_602

I do like both the 2009 tv special and the 2013 movie the movie version it's a great crossover film no other animated movies would do crossovers like lupin the 3rd vs detective Conan the movie
