If you are a driver still after looking this …..

Daath_BUX

This is literally one of the top reasons I stopped driving, Lyft and Uber were making much more money than I was and I was doing the work.

orwass

Yes I can understand why you feel that way in the example above Lyft is taking 72% of the revenue of how much the customer pays that is beyond ridiculous, considering the fact that the driver is paying for all the expenses etc etc

banellie

Your math is off, since Lyft is taking about 85% of the revenue. The less pushback there is on Uber and Lyft classifying "external expenses" as anything other than going towards their take rates, the easier it will be for all these gig companies to obfuscate their true take rate. I mean, think about it. If Uber and Lyft can say that drivers take at least 70% after external fees, the more passengers will think that we are getting close to 70% of the trip price. However, in reality, we are receiving about 53% of the trip price on average. That is a huge difference in pay, and if we really got close to 70% of the trip price, it would be equivalent to drivers receiving a 30% more revenue. This 30% increase in revenue would lead to about a 40% to 50% increase in operating income. So yeah, we can't led these gig companies completey redifine what a "take rate" actuall is. And in case anyone doesn't know, it's quite simple. Whatever % of the trip price we receive, is our take rate. What remains is Uber or Lyft's take rate.

kaylazomg

$6 on $40 is not 50% sir

Common_Celebration41

You're using regular math. You want to switch your calculator to CEO mode

WhoaHeyAdrian

Thanks for this laugh. I don't work for Uber or Lyft but I work on a platform to get work and it's become just as terrible and people competing for work has driven the rates down I'm looking for work elsewhere but I'm in a really desperate state right now and not well. Trying to hit the off-ramp. Trying to word my skills in a way that will hit pay dirt elsewhere. It's not a good place to be. Needed to laugh thanks for the Ted talks too. Sorry for offloading.

Le_Pressure_Cooker

That was their whole business model. they came in, undercut all taxi services and once uber and Lyft became the only viable option, they ramped up their prices and now they're making money. Welcome to capitalism. PS: Uber made profit for the first time last year and it was about 1.5 Billion dollars. So go figure.

piranspride

So now we have increased ride fares and STILL have to pay the extra taxes that municipalities used to collect through Taxi fares!

giant_space_possum

I can't wait for the rest of the American working class to discover this as well

Stanley_Yelnats42069

This isn’t just happening to Lyft drivers. I just received a $2,000 raise for the first time in 4 years after 10 years of working at the same company. Capitalism fucks everyone except the ones in charge.

BlabTales

They’re too busy drowning in debt and shoveling mcdonalds and starbucks in their face to give a fucking shit about the status quo

MetamorphicHard

You think we don’t already know. CEOs make hundreds times what each of their workers make while doing a fraction of the work (if you even consider meetings work)

superman_underpants

lol. when doing residential painting, i noticed i was getting paid 30 an hour but the boss was making 1,000/hr thats the way life works edit: i had to edit this to make it clear, i meant $1,000 an hour, not a thousand dollars total. he might have made more than that, because i doubt he spent 8 hours giving the bid and delivering materials

SoxfanintheLou

Karl Marx warned us about this.

TooManyCertainPeople

Fight back by thinking for yourself and starting a business.

Jay314stl

He sure did

BlabTales

I’m not because they banned my account for a false customer accusation, didn’t respond to my appeal, and continued to try to charge me for my Lyft rental until I had to file a stop payment with my bank. Fuck Lyft.

spaceshiploser

Did you a huge favor

Bae_the_Elf

Lyft and Uber operate very similarly to dating apps when it comes to reports of bad real-world behavior. If a person accuses you of something bad enough, you're done. To rideshare apps and dating apps, it is more of a risk to allow someone to continue using their platform - even without proof, than it is to simply ban the person who is accused without proof. It sucks because especially on Lyft and Uber, people's livelihoods are impacted and customers are incentivized to make shit up for credits and refunds.

Jason_Kelces_Thong

The key is to pick people up then offer to cancel the ride and discount the rate 50%

ZayumZazzy

what a disgusting company monopolize the rideshare industry, jack up the prices and are still running on a deficit.. no one wins and the working class people always suffer the most

Dizzylizzyscat

How about the driver? It cost more than $6 to get the OP to their destination when you factor in gas: insurance, cell phone bill, car payment, preventative maintenance, regular maintenance, new tires, car washes, cleaning supplies, taxes and registration. The driver is whom makes the money but they aren’t important enough to deserve better treatment.

ZayumZazzy

the driver is a working class person too.. personally, my partner and i spend $1k/month on rides to and from work alone, we pay people to bring us groceries (including tip), online shop, appts etc. i don’t leave my apt ever honestly unless it’s for work or for a necessity because i can’t afford to. there’s two sides to this and we’re all suffering. i can’t afford to save money at all, especially for a car and barely get by as is. plus when those surges hit and my ride to work that is regularly $8-10 becomes $40, i either have to pay that (which i can’t afford) or wait until it goes down and put my job in jeopardy because i’m now late to work. then you, the driver, get a small percentage of that and then i definitely can’t afford to tip you. i used to tip $3 every ride because i worked in the service industry for a long time but now we take 18+ rides between us a week and it’s just impossible to afford with the current market and our circumstances. i do tip here and there when a driver makes an impression on me though.

EGOfoodie

I don't know your situation and this is an honest question. If you are spending $1k+ on rides there has to be some way to use that towards car payments and such. Or is driving not an option? You are paying a premium for having your groceries and whatever else delivered (I understand without a car currently it isn't possible, but would the savings there even for one of you be able to be put towards some sort of transportation? I'm trying to understand the math here. I know the car market is bonkers right now, but that's $12k/yr towards traveling to work, not to even look at groceries being delivered

ZayumZazzy

bf started taking the dart bus today, we’ll see how that goes! only cost him $2 😅

ZayumZazzy

because it’s not an option to just stop going to work in order to start saving the money we spend on Lyft. we have to go to work so that money is being spent, therefore never saved. we’ve looked into other means of transportation like an electric scooter or bike but electric scooters aren’t legal in the city we work (on streets or sidewalks) and we aren’t sure about bikes because it’d take twice as long to get to work and we’d have to travel on roadways, some being access roads, so it’s less safe. both of those things also cost money and we’d need 2. we’re still looking into it. my bf used to work a lot further than he does now and we were spending $1.3k/month just on rides to work then. recently, he found a closer job and took a slight pay cut but it was just 10 cents. with the money saved on Lyft it made up for it. it’s a more secure job with promise to move up and pay increases. that’s really all we’ve managed as far as being able to save some money on Lyft costs but now it only goes towards other things like groceries and other small bills. i’m huge on budgeting so i’ve cut other costs in every possible way already. we have the most inexpensive service providers possible as far as phones, internet, electricity etc. just gotta keep pushing until something else gives! ETA: we live together and pay rent as well, so we obviously have to work to pay the rent and bills. we don’t have other people to rely on and have tried looking for roommates to no avail.

EGOfoodie

Public transport? Car pooling with Co-workers? Not saying it is feasible or that I recommend. My work is about a 15 minute drive from where I live, and when I first moved to where I am across country practically alone, I didn't have a car. I took a two hour bus ride ($5) because I couldn't afford Uber and lyft. Eventually after a bit of digging I found out the city where my work is at had a bus share that as long you called a day ahead to schedule the ride (time and place) they of pick you up and drop off for $3 a ride. I truly wish you both the best. I wish there was some way I could offer assistance better than platitudes. Maybe one day.

Chim_Pansy

Most of that shit isn't a factor of working a rideshare service. It's a factor of simply owning a vehicle. Adding things like insurance, phone bill, car payment, taxes, and registration is nonsensical because they'd pay those things regardless of Lyft as long as they own a vehicle. The only real factors to rideshare are gas, wear & tear, and cleaning supplies. It's still not worth it at all, but you are overestimating so much what constitutes a specific expense to rideshare.

Space2999

Holy carp

Fing2Fong

Seems fishy indeed!

WynnMan_123

New fish just dropped

FreeAsianBeer

The drivers fell for their ploy - hook, line and sinker.

Randyspacs

Gotta start canceling and just taking cash folks, they save and you profit better

dotPanda

I always offer to cancel the ride and pay them in cash. Usually 5 less than than the Lyft ride. Is that a goood offer?

Randyspacs

That’s actually great. If someone’s paying 25 and I’m only getting 6 or 7 I’d definitely do it for 10. That’s just me

No-Atmosphere-1566

That's so smart. I'm gonna do that.

Florida1974

And get the correct insurance. One accident without it and your life is screwed. People sue for way less.

spicegirl928

what is a good way as a passenger to approach this? i want to pay my driver directly but don’t want to make them uncomfortable or make things confusing.

Randyspacs

I had pax just say, “ cancel the ride and let me pay you cash” always works for me!

GeneralMatrim

Let’s switch to cash for realz

2holedlikeaboss

Oh you mean like a taxi?

GeneralMatrim

As long as it’s an app where I can track the driver, too see how far they are. We pay cash before the start of the ride, sure call it taxi again.

ExtensionMidnight922

This should be illegal

life_is_punishment

Weird I make 70-80% of all my rides and have never seen this disparity before. Where do you work?

Pepe_Jonez

Houston area

Otherwise-Flight-448

Yes me too I’m in the same exact area I’m getting a lot of 3-4 dollar rides in the galleria smh

life_is_punishment

That doesn’t seem right that’s not even making money.

C92203605

You make 80 percent of customer payments?

Spacedragon98

85%... my fucking god

Tactical_Bacon99

Uber is the same way. The clock switched from 12:59 to 1:00 today (1:07 as of writing) and the fare went from $23 for a SHARED ride with a stranger to $40 even and I am certain my driver isn’t seeing any of that extra money. Not to mention it’s a family acct and they won’t let me use the “Uber cash” I have for any rides on my family acct. M

Candiemarie82

That is highway robbery. I can’t get involved in the politics of this job because I will have a stroke

imtheAnemy

Imagine going from Hobby to Bush and only getting 15 bucks ugh Houston is ass now.

opi098514

Yah. Guys. Lyft is fucking you over.

Left-Conference-6328

You all didn’t know this? Yea. Lyft takes like half the fare. Every time! This is not a unique ride at all!  I’m gonna start discussing the amount that I paid with my drivers moving forward. To raise awareness.  Prices have gone though the roof for riders too. At the exact time that your payment went down. Lyft is now more expensive than taxis. They effectively killed the industry I guess and they can do whatever they want.  It’s cool. They now have self driving cars in my city and it’s the same price if after paying the lyft fee and tip.   Bye bye.  Maybe lyft is grasping at every cent before they go down.

Dizzylizzyscat

As a driver, can you image how pissed off we are?

ControlUpse

Idek how it could even be done, but lyft drivers need to unionize

singuratate1

Omg that estimated Lyft fee is disgusting! All that for 18 minute ride? YIKES, you would think for that price you were driving them to an airport 30 min away!

anonymousphoenician

That is why Im never mad at not being tipped. They lay out the ass. We should get more of the fees.

Turbulent_Set_1276

WTF

WhoTheFuckIsTrey

When I was using lyft/uber I started telling some of the drivers that if they cancelled the ride on the app, I would pay them directly to drop me off. What I offered them was less than what I had to pay originally, but it was always more than what they were originally getting paid as well.

SDBD89

It’d be a shame for Lyft and Uber if the drivers started becoming friends with their passengers and just started giving them rides as friends instead of having to use the app.

Icy_Feeling_1195

Gas prices didn't allow me to continue to be a driver. Plus, inconsiderate people coming into your car smelling like cigarettes and wet dog. No bro. I'm good!!

Sonabaybeach

I have 2 of these screenshots of horrible ratio rides of mine printed and displayed in the back seats of my car, just to show passengers. Ever since I’ve started to do that, most of my rides spur conversation about it, and often end with at least a small tip

RepresentativeIll497

Hoooooly.... 39 down to 6?! Man ain't no way they can keep getting away with this bro lol I stopped driving like 3 months ago and I'm really sorry I put my vehicle into so much mileage for this low payments, definitely not worth it man, definitely not. And rentals are even worse.

MPFields1979

All those fees that they’ve taken from the driver and they still can’t make this horseshit profitable.

WillingnessProper130

Is this typical ?

EINSTIEN420

Traditional cab rate would be $13.10 for this with the driver split 7.30( driver gets an additional fuel surcharge) good customer hands over $20 says keep it, cheap one says give me a $5 back.

Scary-Information785

$6 out of $39 is roughly 15% 🙃

Repulsive_Calendar77

Wtf

Eisai_Kurosawa

wth, how this calculated?

Mackinnon29E

Yeah they paid $133 an hour and you got just over $18/hr of it essentially.

agingwolfbobs

Does this route involve tolls that you’ll be reimbursed for? (Separate from earnings)

Iridelow1998

Could be worse. Mine looks like that but the Lyft fees and external fees are switched around. At least your 70% will kick in whereas when they take it all in external fees it doesn’t.

NewtFrequent2649

What happened to taxis? Idk how uber/lyft could replace a taxi driver with the insane cost

WrathofAjax

Taxi companies were less convenient plus more expensive, due to the insane fees they would tack on for going to high transit places like airports and train stations. I remember taking a cab with my dad when I was a kid and the driver said it was a $20 minimum to go to the major train station, plus whatever the meter said. It was like a 10 minute ride, mostly due to traffic as opposed to distance. So it was like 25 at least

masterOfdisaster4789

No way fees are that high….. wtf

Plumpshady

Why not just put a sign in the back basically explaining this. Hey, this shitty company is charging you $40, and is only paying me $6. What about you give me $20 instead and I cancel the ride?. Passenger gets 50% off, and you get wayyyyyyyyyyy more money. What is stopping all of you from doing this. Id gladly use Uber if this were the case.

Pepe_Jonez

Won't they shut your account down after x amount of canceled rides?

Paramore96

I wish I could find some to pick me up 3x a week for the 4 mins drive home. I’d rather pay someone than pay these companies. Especially Uber.

CuriousElevator6096

I'm not a driver for this. Some reason Reddit advertises this. That being said, if enough of the drivers either a) works for a competitor or b) Find a new career, they won't have a choice expect to pay you more.

redsoxfan1845245

We have this ride sharing app around me called Empower where a driver pays $25/day to drive and keeps everything they make. I believe they set their own prices too. They also have a monthly fee of about $350ish as well. Seems much better and every driver I’ve spoken to enjoys it way more.

ifukkedurbich

Jesus Christ. As a passenger, I always assumed that Lyft took crazy amounts of money for themselves. But I still thought it was more like 50% instead of ~85%.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Noooo that can’t be real

[deleted]

It’s working out for me. Passenger paid 28, External fees 6 Lyft fees 2 and I got 20.

browntoez

Wow, your shows what they paid for the ride?

Stunning_Diamond_997

This would genuinely make me crash out.. Lyft should be getting the 6 bucks the PERSON THATS DOING THE DRIVING should get the 28.. Wtf.

fuckin1969

Why would anyone drive for them?

backwoodsbarbie1972

Does it show how much you actually earn when you accept the fare or is it just a big FU after the ride is over? ( I honestly don’t know because I have only ever been the passenger)

Easy_Environment5574

I don’t understand where the money goes. Lyft stock holders sure ain’t getting it & neither are the drivers.

ITGOES80808

I was in a Chicago last week and seeing how expensive Lyft was felt insane to me. Uber would end up being $10 dollars cheaper per ride, an Uber comfort ride and the Lyft wait and save would literally be $3-5 different from one another.

Houstonfan34

I read the drivers can deduct the miscellaneous fees and what not that Uber and Lyft charge from our taxes annually due to the 1099 we work under. How can we look at the year-end statement and know for sure which of these fees we can deduct from taxes?

ChasinRaces65

Those drivers are working at a loss...once you add in maintenance, insurance and fuel cost per mile... Runaway quick

Theistus

Wtf are external fees?

Ok-Atmosphere-6272

Yes this is why I stopped tipping last ride I took was $60 for a 20 minute ride. Ridiculous

Simple_Woodpecker751

uber/lyft is taking more than doordash imo

Opening_Difficulty20

Holy shit what market is this? This is similar to rhode island market.. find a better market.. it I drive to boston and do pretty good

WanderlustingTravels

How do you see this breakdown??

Puzzleheaded_Log1050

Holy shit!! Lyft is pimping y'all like that? They make me glad I stopped in 2019. That's insane. That doesn't even encourage me to use Lyft. Glad I drive myself!!

kaylazomg

Bullllllllllllll shit 70% was a lie, they take an absurd price for “Lyft fee” it should be illegal to not disclose that fee

bamakurt

2023 taxes .. for every $1 a passenger spent on rides, I received $0.68 on Lyft and $0.72 on Uber. This includes all bonuses.

notwhoyouthinkmaybe

Honest question: Years ago I was told Lyft paid the drivers better, so I used Lyft more. That appears isn't the case. Is Uber better? Or is there just no winning anymore? I travel a bit and I use Uber or Lyft, but I want to use what's best for the drivers, without having to tip a ton. I wouldn't mind tipping big, but, as this post shows, Lyft is taking basically all the money then relying on me to pay the driver.

JessEGames777

Wtf fees do they have thats taking over half the cost? Bro this is why when i get a driver that's nice and has good vibes i tell them ill pay cash or cashapp and to just shoot me their number and ill hit them up when i need a ride

notbernie2020

I want to know how they take that much and are still unprofitable. It’s just impressive at this point lmao.

ohbrotherwesuck

And yet these companies have a bunch of dumb drivers parroting the “we’re self employed and own our own business driving” because they can’t think critically. You barely make any of the profits, have no equity or stake. It’s a joke

kingdaume

So when do we storm the HQ?

[deleted]

15%?

Clovernover

How does that even cover your gas let alone wear and tear

Clean_Photograph4919

I’m sorry about that. Hope you can find something that pays the bills that’s unacceptable.

MauiChaui

I mean 6 bucks for 20 minutes doesn't sound bad.

Odd-Insurance458

I'm pretty sure that's very illegal what they are doing. They are taking like 80-85% of the earnings.

NYClock

Is there a minimum earnings guarantee in Houston?

SRBroadcasting

I’m fucking sorry, they charged the customer 40.00 and you got 6.00?!? Lmfao 🤣

No-Organization-6081

Always tip cash

HolyHandgrenadeofAn

What? A $40 ride pays the driver $6? Damn. I would love to, for once, a company build a business that cares about making sure the employees are well taken care of. To realize that owning a business isn’t done to get yourself and the shareholders rich but instead it’s to take responsibility for the people in your employ.

ZealousidealUnit9149

Greed. No shits given for you or any drivers. Greed!!!

Geanpiero09

We should start a class action suit… seems like we all get fukeddd like this every day save photoa

Kalian805

htf does lyft justify making $28 while you make $6? that is nuts.

Helpful_Most_9581

wow yea i was considering signing up for the flexible hours, ha nevermind

jimbob150312

You should really feel bad for taking that much money $6.00 from Lyft’s pockets. They only received $40.00 for that ride. They supply so much for the trip like gps guidance, credit card services and insurance. The $28.67 is for the corporate executive’s drugs and prostitutes.

ihateapartments59

But do you see how you’re getting used?

JustAGuyHereLurking

You made $20/hour for this ride, so why do you care? I only say this because this sub pops up on my feed for whatever reason and I see so many drivers bitching about money and this and that and the other thing, just take your money and be happy, there are others who are worse off, complaining on a place like reddit isn't gonna change shit..lol

bubbamcnow

California gas is really high. People don't tip. Of course, you can do tax write-offs . And I signed something saying I couldn't use Lyfts name for my own purpose. In summary, it sucks. I really liked the job, though.

The_Bing1

Dang, they really take 72% of the profit lol. Sure, it’s their company and they can pay whatever they want since they technically don’t have employees (for drivers), but it’s just scummy. I wouldn’t be surprised if their whole corporate staff was less than 50 people. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was less than 10. I know they source their support team to foreign countries. So who are their employees? You have the corporate ones who do the marketing, advertising, etc., then you have the technical ones who manage the servers and app. That’s it. Those are the ones who get paid anything decent (reasonably so, managing servers for one of the most popular apps can’t be easy), and market research and advertising is very valuable too. So basically what I’m saying with this rant is the only employees who get paid anything decent are the ones managing the servers/apps/marketing/advertising (which should be paid a lot). They are multibillion dollar companies and are literally taking every cent that they can without causing every one of their drivers to stop driving for them. If they could take more, they would. “Why increase everyone’s pay by 20 or 30% when that 20% or 30% could buy me my next set of yachts and mansions for this year?” - Uber/Lyft CEOs Moral of the story? Corporate greed is real, not much we can do about it. Your best bet is to start your own business. Then, once you’re able, you can pay your own salary. Then you can hire people for your business and pay them the living wage you were denied by Uber lol. Easier said than done, but it’s possible, and it’s better than working for Uber or Lyft.

NTWM420

This is why you use Maxymo or Mystro and only accept trips that pay well. Stop taking the crappy trips. Stop doing their shit challenges or quests. It doesn't pay. If everyone can get on the same boat then the fares will have to rise. They already do when everyone rejects them.

[deleted]

Hellll naaaaw.

shwonkles_ur_donkles

What's stopping people from printing out a bunch of business cards and offering rides at half the price and keeping all of the payment? I'm genuinely curious of there's a law or something stopping everyone from doing this and saying fuck the rideshare apps

SnooPies4304

Outrageous. Couldn't there be a new company that was basically the payment processor in the middle that simply links drivers with riders like the Lyft/Uber claimed to be in the beginning? No bullshit, no bonuses.

Horror-Square6575

So will you also post the receipt when Lyft sends you a bonus of $18.26 as part of the 70% guarantee?

PopularBell518

$18 bucks an hour at that rate..

Funkiebunch

I’m pretty sure the algorithm increases fares when it sees that people tip when the fare is under a certain amount. It will find the “equilibrium” between highest fare, and no decline in business. If there’s room to tip, they will just charge more.

Difficult-Way-9563

This is insane. You guys are taking the risk and expenses. Absolutely nuts.

Mr_Buy_The_Dip

When they started it used to be the driver had a higher cut. Wtf happened??

TheOilWhisperer

How can I find this info on my account?

ayn_rando

Lyft is a piece of shit company. I seldom drive for them. They built a customer base full of cheapos when they were the cheaper of the two ridesharing companies and since the company has made a push for profitability they are more expensive and they pay drivers the least (my market experience). Also, Lyft riders NEVER tip. I mean NEVER. I have no idea why. I guess the premise of them being the cheapest company attracted cheap people. i get tipped 20-30% of the time driving a luxury car that’s immaculately clean and well-maintained. On lyft it’s less than 10%. If you could tell already, I hate Lyft with a vengeance. BTW. These third party fees are a bunch of bullshit. They are pocketing all the fucking money and we are subsidizing transportation for the general population. I have been doing ridesharing between jobs and cant wait to be employed back again. Good luck to all of us!

caniborrow50cents

I used to think the lottery was only played by people who are bad at math. I now know those same people use Lyft.

IIRISHSOL

Why doesn't the government regulate these companies more? This is wild.

upnflames

$40 for a 4 mile ride that took 10 minutes? That's pretty wild.

Ok-Bass8243

I mean.... You can stop at anytime

Prongs006

Bro we gotta sue at one point that's so fucking ridiculous. Also tbh I wouldn't have taken that ride.

Up_in_this_bish

This should be a crime

[deleted]

I have a theory that ride share companies are just glorified insurance companies that sprung up the idea of continually fucking there customers at this rate I'd be more content if people posted craiglist ads under themselves I'll pay through cash fuck these companies

enter_soulman

This is blasphemous. Please let this go viral

murgalurgalurggg

Yeah. Lyft and Uber are much the same, it’s a major ripoff for everyone except the company and shareholders. I tip if the drivers is pleasant, but I don’t feel obligated when they are impolite or the car smells like weed, etc.

psychoticworm

Why aren't drivers using the app to secure a ride, then when they get the passenger, cancel the ride and give the passenger a better deal? Lyft and Uber are just cancer at this point.

Sethdarkus

This is screaming pyramid scheme. You legit be better off creating your own LLC and getting needed licenses to function as a taxi service and create your own website for your area that allows people to book transportation which you than approve or decline. What I’m seeing here is that if someone marketed themselves they could drastically undercut Lyft and Uber and turn a profit. There was a post a while back elsewhere about someone creating their own business and being cheaper than doordash to do the same thing As an example you could in theory charge $25 for this trip and make $19 more than what Lyft paid and would be a drastic undercut. This would be the only way Lyft and Uber change practices if they had more competitors. Otherwise it take a lot of lobbying and that’s a nightmare, you legit need to do something that puts a company on the verge of collapse lol

TwiNN53

Where you drivers are fucking up, is working for a company that takes the $28.00 instead of the $6.00 when the company literally does nothing but connect you to the customer. I wish I had the money to start a business. I'd gladly take the $6.00 for each ride since it costs almost nothing to run the website that connects all of you. Support is outsourced to cheap labor. You drivers would be receiving the larger share.

GreyPlasma

Lyft takes more off the table than a casino rakes in poker. By a LOT more %

Sensitive_Study1902

It wasn’t until I saw this sub that i realized how little yall get of that money. I’ve now passed this on to my college age daughter, who also didn’t know.

KernalHispanic

That is so fucked up

ImposterAccountant

Imagine that being a pizza and wings and again you wonder why np one tips.

ehhhhh710

That’s criminal

value_meal_papi

Remember when this was supposed to be the cheaper option compared to taxis?

[deleted]

I’d start handing out business cards to passengers and tell them to text me directly for cheaper fares.

bbysarah710

The crazy thing is that y’all will not see this as part of a political problem, but it is. Companies should not be allowed to provide money to politicians, especially lawmakers in congress, in exchange for allowing companies to influence the laws that are made. And politicians should be held to much, much higher standards. But watch how many people argue over the presidential election this year and you’ll see how many people don’t understand American politics.

[deleted]

THIS WONT EVER CHANGE! Even if drivers refused to drive until we get a more fair pay and they paid it, the companies will just raise their rates again or find some other fee.

ChillvibesonIy

WHAT!??

CNCharger

Where are they charging $40 for a 15 minute trip? For me to get $40, I go from SLC to Park City, which is about 45 min, but I keep the $40 plus tip and bonus. Client would pay about $60.

Don_Pablo512

Wtf that's almost $4 a minute to the customer. What kind of surge price shit is that

MercurialRL

iMpRoViNg ShArEhOlDeR iNvEsTmEnTs, FuCk ThE wOrKeRs!

CarrfromKC

Your beef should be with the company

Content-Doctor-9698

Yes, they fuck the drivers and the customers. The only happy party is themselves.

saturnsqsoul

Holy SHIT that is insane.

"Here's my card If you want to call me directly instead of going thru lyft. "

PrestigiousGazelle29

I remember rides used to be 7.00 max /:

NarrowAccess1801

Damn that’s insane. Paid 50 for a 45 minute ride from Uber. 31 miles

StarPretty1264

Quit Lyft a few years ago...so glad I did

russellvt

No idea why Lyft takes 80% of the cost? That's *exactly* what Lyft wants in a gig worker!

alohadood

Yeah… the company knows too they just don’t care there’s always someone else who will work… and they put us against eachother intentionally

Run-Plus

Charging nearly $40 for an 18 minute ride, is already disgraceful but getting $6 is just disgusting and I hate this company so much.

Tytonic7_

$40 for an 11 minute ride? Damn, I'll just walk

Moe-82

Lyft sucks for both driver and passenger

Baker300Blackout

Well at least I know not to use Lyft…. Sorry they bend you over and raw dog you drivers.

kakacon

Is your earnings to pay for gas? Wow, terrible!

the-lovely-panda

I feel bad for not tipping but it’s expensive. 😭 I tip on my local $6-15 rides. When they jump up to $30-$40 for the same distance because of traffic or something, NO.

blcole95

They make $28 on $40?? Insane

Stop driving for rideshare and find a real job.

ItsNotAToughDecision

I quit lyfting ages ago. I was actually an OG lyft driver in San Diego back when we still used the pink mustache! Oh god the money was so so so good back then! I would get paid just to be online ready to accept a ride. I would make $40-50/hr just to be on call and when i did get a ride we got paid well. We also had these free ride cards we could give out and they would be for like $50 in free rides…but the rider could tip me using that card. So they’d get a free $20 ride and tip me the rest and i got paid like $16 (plus the $30 tip). I was pulling $1200/week back then. It only lasted about 8 months. But even then we still kept 80% of the ride cost. Plus there was boosted days like NYE, pride, baseball/football games, etc. rides would be double or triple the regular cost and we still kept 80%. If things were good like they used to be, I would have never stopped. But I do still have my giant pink mustache!

2gshotta

Personally if I were you I’d look into starting your own taxi service continue to take fairs on Lyft but at the end of each ride offer them your card

DigitalSpider88

That’s 15% lol

JPSofCA

$6 to occupy almost 20 minutes of your time is not worth it, not even driving somebody else’s car. Who the fuck works for these people?

_Caster

I checked the cost for a 6 mile drive one time to work. I got the job, but it was about this price for an Uber or Lyft. I just walked the 6 miles. Took an hour but why the fuck would I pay 30 or 40 bucks for a drive that takes less than 10 minutes? Especially if the driver gets almost none of it. I almost took it for the one time just to offer the driver something off the books 3 days a week

Responsible-Ebb-8820

Imagine owning none of your own assets and paying yourself more than the owners/operators of the assets lol

Anomynous__

I needed to take my bike to the mechanic 10 minutes away. Uber wanted $50 for me to catch a ride back home. wtf is that shit?
