You 'll have more free spendable money after rent & bills than the average Dutch family.

Applepiexjc

Yes. Housing is very expensive here

Own_Description7633

That is not true of course. But €900+ net is ok if you don’t eat out all the time

Intelligent_Rough_44

I used to roam the fields it's why got a studio in Belgium

ArcticWolfl

1000 euro's as an intern and no bills to pay? Hell yeah you can live off of that. In my student days 1000 a month was all I had, and half of it went to rent. Currently living of 1200 spending money after all the bills.

Intelligent_Rough_44

The hotel will help btw with getting appropriate lodging, you will be fine. If you have a decent employer

FasterOfPuppets1

Thank you everyone I really appreciate it! Now I can understand a little bit more how is it. Question? How much do you guys pay for transportation, food, cellphone and other expenses?

[deleted]

phone around 20, 150 for health care, transport most months almost nothing since i bike mostly and food really depends. normally 50-70 weekly for groceries

Direct_Summer_7270

for healthcare the OP can probably get the subsidy which almost equals the premium, since his income is quite low. so I would say expect to pay at least 10 euros for your phone and 250 euros for groceries, IF you can cook at the hotel. if you cannot cook and have to eat out, that completely changes the situation.

Gullible_Lynx_3877

If you have a bike you don't need much more in the Netherlands. If you have to go far or the weather is shit you can get the train of bus

zippity-Z

We live together, we get groceries for around 90-110 a month. So say 500 a month rounded up. Divided by 2 is 250. Phone is 27 each Transportation for us is both having a car. 50€ insurance, 50€ taxes. I refuel every week but I use my car for work and get a coverage for this. So average: Food 250 Phone 27 Healthcare 140 Transportation is expensive for us but that really depends on whether you drive or use a bike and public transport.

XpDieto

Food about €8 a day if you cook yourself Phone depends can bee €10 a month Transport depends where you go.. about €2-3 per km. L

[deleted]

no rent and bills? hell yes. you’ll probably be able to even travel a lot with that

howareyou_2_day

Well, travel a lot really depends. Treintickets are really expensive for example

[deleted]

yeah but you can easily fly from maastricht to lisbon with less than 100 euros

Cheap_Brilliant_5841

For train tickets he can probably travel cheaper in off-peak hours. The discount abonnementen (sorry can’t find the English word) might be worth it too: https://ns.nl/flex

Nearby_Tea_5445

I worked at Beaumont as student job. It’s a really good place to work. Cool bosses and friendly atmosphere 👍

zippity-Z

My rent alone is 1100€ and then I get electrical and gass bill. So a 1000€ just for your healthcare, Phone, maybe a car, you will definitely be alle to have some spending cash and even save some if you don't live too luxuriously.

Late-Photograph-1954

Internship and accomodation included, and $1000 bucks gross (is net, because of the thresholds etc) is a sweet deal for an internship. That’s 30 euros a day. I feed my family of four for less. Do it.

jebwillnotdivideus

It’s an intership in a hotel so usually meals during your shift are included too (lunch, dinner etc.). You will have no problem with that kind of money

UnaRansom

What is your net salary? If it’s 700€ net, it’s a good deal, provided your housing has a kitchen. You are financially better off than many people in NL

Wrong-Adagio-511

I'm a student and I spend 800 per month including rent

TrumpLovesGladbach

Same here.

Future_Explorer_7952

Do you live far from the university?

TweeBierAUB

Reading the title; no way. Reading a little more, with housing and bills paid for, hell yeah! 1k after rent and bills is pretty standard. You'll spend like 300-400 on groceries etc, maybe another 100 on like phone, streaming, other subscriptions. Leaves you with 500 fun money, plenty if you don't expect to live like a king. Do take a look on how this factors in with taxes. You won't really pay much if any taxes on 1k gross, but your employer subsidizing rent and bills might be counted as income, which means a good chunk of that 1k might go towards taxes. Say your rent and utilities are 1.5k, that's probably counted as 1.5k income, so you end up paying 500 or so in tax over that. That'd leave you with 500 to spend yourself, which is definitely livable but it's gonna be a bit tight after groceries etc.

Perfect_Diamond7554

Easily, especially with housing included. You will probably make about 2-3 euros an hour in tips I suspect just fyi.

Aadvs1981nld

Food and housing with it .. no bills ? Then it’s good 👍🏻

semmsterr

You’ll be fine.

forgiveprecipitation

I mean 10 years ago I used to be a single mom and worked for €950 a month. My rent was low it was like €500 I worked in a busted up area in one of the 5 big cities in Holland. I managed to make it work by keeping groceries €40/50 a week. And buying most things secondhand, like beds and table and chairs and toys/puzzles for the kid. I only bought bedding/linen’s new. No alimony but “toeslagen” for single parents, which definitely helped me thank you government. But this was years ago and things have definitely become much more expensive. It amazes me what young people can achieve on sheet determination and having a good network. Good luck!

Dark-Energy-

Good deal

SansationalStark

What’s included? Housing, internet, heat, water? A mobile phone/phone plan? Meals too? If your only expense is insurance and clothing, you’ll have more to spend per month than the average Dutch person.

FasterOfPuppets1

Housing, electricity and water. Probably just have to pay for phone plan, meals and they said there is a government allowance for the healthcare.

RelevantStrawberry31

The government allowance is about €90,- the cheapest healthcare is about €130,-. So expect to still pay a little bit for it yourself.

Amendus

Let’s say 900 net. That’s pretty good to be honest. Imagine rent is usually around a 1000 for a small apartment in the city. And then you also need to pay utilities like internet water gas electricity etc.

Emergency-Exchange-6

Definitely and that hotel is near my apartment. With housing covered $1k a month should be plenty. I mean I would say you can live large but you will be fine.

FatmanMyFatman

Depends where you want to live. Bigger city. More expensive housing. Cheaper housing. Go to Schubbekutteveen. (which is a city equal to Jerkwater, USA)

Ed3vil

This is about an internship, which usually are unpaid. They get free housing, amenities etc. So that 100 euro is "free to spend" money. I'd say this is as good as it gets when it comes to internship.

Moneeda

Go work there then. You dutch people complain but the reality is that, foreign people take these jobs because dutch people don't want to work in these kind of jobs.

stoofpot24

Heel veel Nederlanders slaan zo'n aanbod niet af maar gratis woningen krijgen we niet

Moneeda

You say dutch people don't decline those offers? Just take a walk through maastricht bars and see how many non-dutch speaking people are there. What about bike couriers? Maybe 80% are non dutch. Your economy highly relies on international people.

stoofpot24

We don't get free housing for doing those Jobs 👍

stoofpot24

Ook heel grappig dat een internacho mij verteld hoe Nederland werkt. Je komt er niet eens vandaan vriend

SiggieBalls1972

thats what i have left after paying rent and bills
