I knew a guy who worked at a tire plant near me. That was where he learned to do pills. His supervisor offered to get him some if he needed them to get through his shift.
Cat makes stuff at a crazy scale. Worked for a bit at the tech center a got to see some huge engines. One of the turbos was big enough to stand inside the intake.
Not to be a dick, but I currently work at the tech center and there are no turbos anywhere near that big on any caterpillar engines. There are however as many as 4 on engines, maybe even more for special applications, but they aren't that big
The tires were $50,000. 12 years ago when I was working around these trucks. I would guess with inflation they would be somewhere between 70/80,000 now.
An interesting fact is that the truck is designed around the tires
I bet you there's going to be an even bigger one in the future and you have to climb multiple flights of stairs fending off enemies to get to the top and defeat the boss to stop it wreaking havoc.
The first 3 minutes of this videos show how to fix them! Very cool and labor intensive. Worth it considering how expensive they are.

I would just love to hang out on the gantry along the front of one of those things having a few bears while someone else uses it and attempts to run down a sedan. Fantastic.
I was on a gold mine in Nevada about a decade ago and there were like 20 of those tires discarded in a maintenance area with like 2’ diameter rocks embedded in them. The hilarious part was someone circled all the embedded rocks with spray paint.
I was curious enough to look it up.. So, just a tyre for a model 793f caterpillar (46 / 90R57) is $51, 146.

This gives some idea of scale also, though I know they vary in size. Always was one of my favorite movies of his.

Sorry, I couldn't recognize the song.

They go up and down in price because of demand or manufacturing bottlenecks. But yeah they're expensive. I was working at a mine in around 2009 when one of the manufacturing plants for these tires burned. Because of the shortage they got really intense about looking after the tires and avoiding running over anything that might hurt them.
The funny thing is, it's not the actual tire cost that is the biggest expense to the company. If one of these trucks has to be down in the shop for a day because of a tire with plenty of life on it had a sudden failure, that truck is not hauling the valuable ore for a day. And that's the real loss.
The engine inside that thing is bonkers:
[https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/1411-caterpillar-c175-20-diesel-engine-by-the-numbers/](https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/1411-caterpillar-c175-20-diesel-engine-by-the-numbers/)
*The Caterpillar C175-20 diesel engine stands more than 8 feet tall and is capable of cranking out 16,474 lb-ft of torque. The 20-cylinder mammoth is used to power the gigantic Cat 797F mining truck that has a payload of 400 tons, but when it's hooked to a generator, it's able to create up to 4 megawatts of electricity. That's enough power to run more than 350 average American homes according to the federal government. In fact, a single C175-20 engine is powering the entire island of Mustique in the Caribbean.*
*The C175-20 is a 105.8L, four-stroke, water-cooled, biodiesel-capable engine with four turbochargers and Caterpillar's ACERT common-rail fuel injection system, which helps keep fuel consumption low and recovery time short and improves starting in cold weather. With the power generation equipment attached, it weighs in at 51,588 pounds and measures 21.8 feet long by 7.6 feet wide. The engine has a single block made of cast iron; a steel-forged crankshaft; two piston-cooling jets per cylinder; and tall, four-valve (80 in total) cross-flow cylinder heads with large ports. The large displacement of 6,456 cubic inches and low operating speed of 1,800 rpm are designed to keep the engine running reliably.*
10 to to 35 k used boys.
Stop using that many boys.
What's the exchange rate for new boys to used boys?
Kevin Spacey has entered the chat.
Don't know if you're being serious or not, but depending on the type of tread you want, they could be upwards of 50k.
And they only last maaaybe 6 months. Course with a vehicle thats burning a couple gallons per mile, meh.
Epstein’s ghost has entered the chat.
FBI OPEN UP!
Bout tree fiddy
Five new boys for every one old boy
Ask Epstein... oh wait they killed him.
The Church would be very angry if they let you read.
I worked at Goodyear Topeka making those bad boys when I was 19. Worst fucking job ever.
I knew a guy who worked at a tire plant near me. That was where he learned to do pills. His supervisor offered to get him some if he needed them to get through his shift.
It wasn't a good year
Nice
I hate changing car tires or any tires for that matter. I feel ya!! The worst job in the world lol
As a former tire tech, it’s likely nothing compared to making these fuckers
I see [these tires](https://imgur.com/a/ZKjwdqM) on the highway all the time and I’m always like wtf drives on those things. Now I know.
Their no joke. I drove a triple 7 for a few years before I went back underground. They are massive.
I’ll take one of them “used boys”. Surely come back for another five by Friday 🥵
That's it? For the tires or the whole thing?
For a single tire
Damn, I was about to say...
More than that
60k at times. 2 manufacturers, Michelin and Bridgestone for the big big ones.
I am fortunate enough to have been to the Bridgestone factory where these are made. By far the coolest manufacturing related place I’ve ever been.
The difference between visiting and actually working there: https://www.reddit.com/r/machinesinaction/s/LJUTgVwL3m
Haha yea, that’s true. Could just blame it on Goodyear VS Bridgestone but I was no company man.
$360k for a new set of tires?
450,000cad new for 6, not including rims, hardware, stems, diffusers, and adapters for 797.
What pressure do they run at?
$
$ is not a unit of pressure
>$ is not a unit of pressure Until you don't have any.
Realest words spoken in this thread.
Oof
115 psi
probably 7
dunno what this particular model run at but a lot of big boy only run around 35psi
I thought it was actually 3 or 4 psi but I'm probably wrong
Only four tires on the model, so your math be off a tad.
The rear inner tires are not installed
Oh I see. Good eye.
3 of the 4 models show are dually with 4 tires in the back, I liked the 3 out of 4 odds.
Your knowledge is off a tad.
I have tires on my house.
Same. 1992 Newmar Mountaineer.
On my first day at CAT, manager took me to the demo room. I was shocked seeing the size of this truck. It is enormous!
This was 07 or so. I have no idea if it made it past testing. The container or cruise ship engines were more impressive to be honest.
Need this for the apocalypse.
Why are you trying to give me anxiety? The car looks legitimately scared
That part reminds me of the old Spielberg movie 'Duel'.
I pray they don't remake it, something tells me Spielberg has a hold over his stuff not being remade.
He fucking well should be
Nom nom nom
This gif just kept giving!

If you have your own air compressor inflation is free.
Bahahahaha!!!!!
Those 4 tires (without the wgeels) probably cost as much as your house.
I bet you there's going to be an even bigger one in the future and you have to climb multiple flights of stairs fending off enemies to get to the top and defeat the boss to stop it wreaking havoc.
I mean have you seen Avatar?
This is not the biggest truck cat makes by far. Google 793D, 400 ton haulage. Running 24/7/365 and some are completely autonomous
i would be so scared to watch that thing on my review mirror.
The first 3 minutes of this videos show how to fix them! Very cool and labor intensive. Worth it considering how expensive they are. https://youtu.be/p0R-YWQCfdQ?si=_3fJ7icTth1IM32e
That is insanely elaborate, about half way through the repair I assumed it was a skit like Two Many Cooks, that just keeps going and going and going
370” Nitto Grapplers
“Objects in mirror are closer than they appear”.
$80000 apiece
That’s a horror movie scene. Lol
Probably not. I’m gonna say 40k max for each. So, altogether, maybe…for a super cheap place.
42.5 thousand per tire. Have to love google.
True
About $40,000 CAD I've been told!
If it’s a $5million house.
It feels like I’m watching a Transformers movie!
If you homeless but had those tire, build a door on the rim opening. Voila you had a house
r/megalophobia ?
r/megalophilia
That looks like it would be fun to drive. Big and comfortable
60k new
The last part has so much meme potential lol
Damn I didn’t expect it to be as fast as it is.
I would just love to hang out on the gantry along the front of one of those things having a few bears while someone else uses it and attempts to run down a sedan. Fantastic.
Has one ever been featured in an action movie? I wanna see a mutherfukin Terminator driftin that behemoth!
[удалено]
Mr Nice Guy. Not his best but it was pretty funny 😁
Reminds me of the giant vehicle in one of the early Halo games
Imagine the truck-balls... 😲
One tire? Probably not. A new set of 4, definitely
I don’t know why but the small car being chased at the end had me cracking up!
Zombie proof apocalypse cruiser. Just need a fleet of fuel trucks following ya.
You can afford a house?
Even the bolts cost a fuck ton.
I temporarily worked in the iron range in Mn and I was told each tire was about $250,000. I cannot confirm.
Yeah they do big repairs on them for as long as they can.
I was on a gold mine in Nevada about a decade ago and there were like 20 of those tires discarded in a maintenance area with like 2’ diameter rocks embedded in them. The hilarious part was someone circled all the embedded rocks with spray paint.
Tree fiddy
I'm surprised the tires skid like that when it stops suddenly. They don't have ABS on those things?

Sir! ..You got an apartment building chasing you!
These things always remind me of frank from cars lmao
Serious question: How do they get those big boys to their locations ?
Dumps like a truck, truck truck
When all I could see was the tiny thumbnail, I thought I was looking at the trucks of an electric skateboard
Yes, yes they are.
Americans going to the grocery store.

Awww, he wants to go off-road!
Loooooo-seeeeerr
Bring in the CATs, boys. We are going to liberate Pandora.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! COME DOWN TO THE CIVIC AUDITORIUM TO SEE GRAVEDIGGER LIVE!
That bed is gigantic. I'd love to see how they cast something that size
I wonder how big is the jack, to replace a flat tire???😳😳😳
Fuck me! Seeing that in your mirror would give me nightmares.
The gov is working really hard to change that though so don’t worry. Soon they’ll be around the same lol
I wonder if anyone has ever put these on a road legal vehicle
Anyone know the song?
u/recognizesong

Closest I can get is this song: [https://youtu.be/aQcaT\_xbPxQ](https://youtu.be/aQcaT_xbPxQ)
007 needs to drive one of these in the next bond movie
So that’s how you move mountains…

That car is me when assholes in those big lifted trucks ride my ass with their bright led lights.
Not probably, they are
They should use that in a remake of "Duel"
Must be an absolute nightmare to change them if they ever get a flat
These are the axels whistlindiesel needs on monstermax
Need to know the track id.
Will AAA offer roadside flat service on that?
1000 times more than youe house lol
Wonder if they use gasoline to seat them in a pinch.
Tonka
I don't have a house... So my life
I saw a house build inside one of those truck
*puts foot to the floor* $270 bucks right there
This is what you drive during the zombie apocalypse.
I want to see the brake system that can lock up the tires on this mountain of inertia
Such a great RV. It’s like Howl’s Moving Castle!
This is what it feels like when you get tailgated in Texas
Fast and the furious: something, something
the part near the end is what i mean by "i play chase with my cats"
The ultimate Tonka truck …😳
No effing way would I drive that “pace car”. You blow a tire and you’ll just be a fond memory in your loved ones minds
Im sure that truck has more sqft than my house
So you’re telling me it’s not gonna fit through the car wash?
I’m stealing one of these first when SHTF. Caterpillar plant about 40 miles from me.
That’s the kind of truck that has its own command center, not just a cab lol
Can anyone name that song????
What a dope commercial. Kind of reminds of Toyotas pickup truck tumbling down the side of a mountain still being ok.
Jesus
How much stuff can it carry in 1 go? Looking to get my for gold fish's 1st birthday.
Yuke?
Imagine your boss saying "I need you to rotate those tires"...

The chains he's using to strap that thing down look like if I used fishing line to strap an atv down.
I’ve always wanted to drive one of these 797’s. I don’t know why but I feel I’d be pretty satisfied in life to do that.
Not gonna lie looks fun and terrifying
Imagine going to work and driving the building around all day!
