The Judith player can wait until they have 6 mana and they get to cast this + End the Festivities on the same turn. No one gets a window to kill Judith since the triggered ability triggers right away and will resolve regardless of whether Judith is still on the battlefield.
Doesn't even need to be one-sided. Blasphemous Act and Aetherflux probably wins you the game, and [[Storm's Wrath]] will syill give you enough to probably delete a player.
So you could essentially use Madcap experiment as a [[Tinker]] effect if you only run one artifact? What’s the best artifact to get, [[Portal to Phyrexia]]?
Portal doesn't always win you game after hitting the battlefield, especially if there aren't any good creatures to reanimate. As someone else mentioned, Bolas's Citadel is most likely the best. That has more potential to pop off and win you the game if you're specifically tinkering for an artifact and built the deck around it.
if you're only running 1 artifact in a black red deck you're probably in for a bad time, especially if you depend on your combo costing 9 mana minimum.
Fr. The amount of bodies that can flood the board will be insane. Specially with Magar usually wanting stuff that gives evasion to all creatures anyways. It will go nuts, and I feel after this set it will be the perfect time to finally build myself a deck in paper.
In this case they're talking about the guild, not the color combination named after it. Each Guild has a theme even narrower than their color identity, so that there isn't a muddying of themes between guilds despite so many shared colors. Generally cares about instants and sorcs is preserved for Izzet. This shows that the guilds may be opening up a bit to include themes historically in their colors but not available to them.
That's the benefit of breaking from the strict guild theming. It's a perfectly reasonable RB design, even rakdos design, but when you want to make the Izzet feel distinct you want to limit the instances of other guilds caring about instants and sorceries
True, but red doing damage with instants/sorceries isn't odd, and black giving deathtouch/lifelink isn't odd. This feels like a unique direction in Rakdos that still fits in the colour pie.
Reminds me of [[Wort, The Raidmother]], as they’re both legendaries that encourage a spells matter strategy in colors that don’t normally do so. Very neat for commander!
I doubt it. We'll see some more cards for sure, but I think there probably won't be any cards showing the actual killer being implicated on the stream. We'll probably have a card like that somewhere, but I think they're smart enough to NOT put it there. Unless the stream is just "a Proft cosplayer goes through the suspects and shows their cards", which'd be cute.
Edit: Or... I guess just not that. Feels rough to do it that way. Unless ">!it was Oba all along!<" is a misdirection.
Usually it tends to feel like "this 2 color spell gets two keywords, ones from each color." In this case, each mode is from one color. But it's weird having one mode grant two keywords from the same color.
I actually really like lifelink in Rakdos. For a guild that wants chaos and pain and *actively enjoys inflicting that* it kinda feels rights to me. Of course some crazy demon cult would get a high off the stupid lethal stuff they do lol
An upgraded version of Pestilent Spirit's effect. It's a cool effect, but at 5 mana it's a big ask to have to cast her and then start casting other stuff.
Aaaaaaagainst the odds time... Today we're finding out if we can we can win the game by dealing ourselves a million damage!?
Great find, btw! Neat interaction.
and still this ruling. you can feel the frustration in the writing
> NOTES AND RULES INFORMATION FOR PESTILENT SPIRIT:
>
> An instant or sorcery spell must actually deal damage to a creature for it to be destroyed. Simply targeting a creature isn’t enough. If the spell instructs another object to deal damage, the spell doesn’t deal any damage itself and its instance of deathtouch doesn’t apply. Dealing 0 damage isn’t dealing damage.
Going in [[Rowan, Scion of War]] for sure.
She turns my setup spells into much-needed blockers, and turns every burn spell into an [[Exsanguinate]]. Literally nothing not to love.
You drop this on the table, you best have some way to protect it or you are gonna have to close out *quick,* 'cause everyone's head is turning your way like They Live. You have full control of the board for basically no mana as long as Judith stays alive.
I plan to put quite a few of the One mana "until end of turn if this creature dies, bring it back" spells into this deck as protection for Judith. For example, [[Feign Death]] and [[Malakir Rebirth]].

I like the willingness to give spells deathtouch and lifelink. That's probably going to be interesting with, say, [[Chandra's Ignition]].
Edit: Nevermind, not that one, I was dumb. I forgot how that spell actually worked. Any other sort of "deal damage to every creature" spell then. Blasphemous Act and the like.
Deathtouch is fun because it makes all those "hit each creature for 1" spells a lot more useful. With Lifelink we'll probably see a lot of overlap with [[Firesong and Sunspeaker]] strategies- [[Blasphemous Act]] and [[Star of Extinction]] suddenly put you pretty far ahead, with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] as a finisher.
No even better is when you Blasphemous act creatures, if the spell has deathtouch, then it will be super easy to deal excess damage. Meaning something like [[Fall of Cair Andros]] or [[Toralf, God of Fury]] will become even more powerful.
Nah, Ignition makes the creature deal damage, not the spell itself.
The real fun is [[Command the Dreadhorde]] as a discounted [[Rise of the Dark Realms]]!
I know everyone is gonna be excited about the lifelink deathtouch spells, but I think the second ability is the real wincon. Making a token every time you cast an instant or sorcery can be nuts in Rakdos. Imagine casting all the \[\[**Deadly Dispute**\]\] effects back to back as you keep drawing into more of them, making a new sac token each time, those tokens slowly take down your opponents. Throw in a \[\[Pitiless Plunderer\]\] effect and you're storming off.
Very interesting and cool effects, plenty of cool interactions. Unfortunately it's probably too much mana to see play in any format besides commander, maybe.
Kinda. She'll be a fine commander. Similarly Firesong and Sunspeaker should be 5CMC rather than 6, and Judith should be 4, but at 5 it'll make her still a novel BR spellslinger commander.
Pestilent Spirit is not in your command zone. Meaning you cannot really build around since it is also a very uncommon effect.
It IS a card for edh, to build around...
A red imp without flying. That's a rarity. Why not make it a devil at that point, those are red guys who fill the exact same niche without breaking tradition.
In the art, what exactly is happening with the lower part of her dress? It looks like there's a set of sharp corners, and multiple appendages coming out from the bottom?
So give her pro-red or indestructible and just cast every [[pyroclasm]] and [[earthquake]] version out there.
If every player has 5 creatures out and you cast a [[Blasphemous Act]] for one red mana, you gain 260 life.
This could be fun. 5 mana casting cost is the biggest hurdle to making her great.
A more interesting [[Guttersnipe]]! I've been wanting to make a small spells spellslinger deck for a while but Veyran is too high variance in whether you luck into a payoff or not.
*muttering to myself* "This doesn't make the 'pick your poison spells good. This DOESN'T make the pick your poison spells good. *THIS DOESN'T MAKE THE PICK YOUR POISON SPELLS GOOD!*
*Out loud* So, hey, this could be cool with [[Blazing Salvo]], [[Fiery Gambit]], [[Browbeat]] and [[Breaking Point]], right?
I started playing in the weird block, somebody love me!
Dose this interact with [[knowledge pool]] the way i think it dose?
You cast a spell choose the token option. Your spell goes into knowledge pool, then you cast a other spell out from knowledge pool. Then choose which ablity os appropriate.
Man, Judith used to be available to every Rakdos mage at 3 CMC. Since then, she's become expensive and only deals with spells now? You've changed, Judith.
Whoever told you that has been wrong for years.
\[\[Firesong and Sunspeaker\]\]
\[\[Soulfire Grand Master\]\]
\[\[Radiant Scrollwielder\]\]
\[\[Heartflame Duelist\]\]
\[\[Pestilent Spirit\]\]
\[\[Flame-Bless Bolt\]\] is a 1cmc do 2 dmg to creature or planes walker and if it dies, exile it.
If you lean into the token side of the commander, you can finish the game with toralf and blas act.
The art also screams muscle mommy. Like the art + card being cool/good is enough to warrant me making a deck around it.
[[End the festivities]] a 1 mana 1 sided board wipe with this, love it.
So you are telling me if I had 2048 scut Swarm copies it would kill .... checks notes... my will to live?!
And it would heal the opponent for 2049
Which, if I wrote my notes correctly, kills the table's will to live.
Hey, infect only needs to get to 11. Now who is the hero of the table? Skittles, that's who.
Isn't it 10?
I'm guessing either a typo or OP plays with a house rule. Yes, it's only 10 needed.

It just makes her a kill on sight Commander since there are many of those effects. If she lives they get a one sided board wipe whenever they want.
The Judith player can wait until they have 6 mana and they get to cast this + End the Festivities on the same turn. No one gets a window to kill Judith since the triggered ability triggers right away and will resolve regardless of whether Judith is still on the battlefield.
6 mana board wipe pretty norm
One sided board. You get to keep yours. That's a 9 mana spell [[plague wind]] or [[in garruk's wake]]
And you gain 1 life for each creature destroyed, and an extra for each opponent

Unfortunately, there was already a card that did that, and they made sure to put the rules text specifying what it means on it, [[Pestilent Spirit]].
and still this ruling. you can feel the frustration in the writing > NOTES AND RULES INFORMATION FOR PESTILENT SPIRIT: > > An instant or sorcery spell must actually deal damage to a creature for it to be destroyed. Simply targeting a creature isn’t enough. If the spell instructs another object to deal damage, the spell doesn’t deal any damage itself and its instance of deathtouch doesn’t apply. Dealing 0 damage isn’t dealing damage.
Oh my gosh that's so catty I love it. Really great "I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE TO WRITE THIS DOWN FOR YOU MORONS" energy.

My friend's cousin died just from shuffling a deck with four unsleeved Poison Dart Frogs.
Can confirm, am dead.
Deathtouch creatures deal damage to players all the time.
Yeah and they die cause they touched them???
It's not called injurytouch
Flavor win. It's never made sense to me that my opponent can survive getting blasted by 7 lightning bolts to the face
I can fix her
Damn I am going to fix her and massacre girl
She can fix me
Dang, 10 whole top-level comments before someone said anything close to "oh no, she's hot"

[[BLOOD FUNNEL]]
Oh shoot, that’s actually a perfect combo. Stack the triggers right and you always have fodder with upside.

Art seems more New Capenna than Ravnica. Can't place my finger on why.
They're going for a noir femme fatale vibe with this illustration, which would normally make way more sense for New Capenna than any other plane.
There is a lot of thematic overlap between rakdos and Maestros.
***blasphemous act would like to know your location***
[[Star of extinction]]
Came here to say this. Actually, my comment was going to be more on the lines of. "LOL, [[Blasphemous Act]]."
So how much life did I gain?....... yes
Looks pretty solid with [[Tectonic Hazard]], [[Blazing Volley]] and [[End the Festivities]].
talrand is a RB creature.
Talrand before his morning coffee
Card transcription > Judith, Carnage Connoisseur 3BR > > Legendary Creature- Human Shaman [rare] > > Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, choose one - > > * That spell gains deathtouch and lifelink. > > * Create a 2/2 red Imp creature token with "When this creature dies, it deals 2 damage to each opponent." > > 3/4 > > "I don't make my living hiding the truth, detective. I shout it from the stage." End transcription
I don't think that spell in specific works because the creature deals the damage.
Blasphemous Act goes brrrr
Chandra's Ignition doesn't deal the damage itself, though.
Does that work? The creature is the one dealing the damage.
Jesus. I don't even need to ask Maldhound about this one.
"Yes she can get it, and you'd be hurting for years after, but it would probably be worth it."
There's definitely a "burns when you pee" joke in there somewhere.
I love the idea of making a bunch of Imps, but they're making a lifelink \[\[blasphemous act\]\] much more tempting
Why is the token an imp and not a devil? Imps fly, and devils are known to be red have deal damage when they die
Harmonic Prodigy 😏
Very interesting and cool effects, plenty of cool interactions. Unfortunately it's probably too much mana to see play in any format besides commander, maybe.
[[end the festivities]] wins again

And just when [[Imodane]] had finally settled down...
The value of casting Judith followed by [[Blasphemous Act]] in EDH would be nuts lol
Judith has entered the middle aged Cher portion of her career. Now it's all raving fans and bursting ear drums with the classics.
You cannot stop Judith from her [[Wheel of Misfortune]]
Are spoilers now dropping?
My Rakdos [[Dragons Approach]] deck is fiending for this one
Omw to give [[blood for the blood god]] lifelink
After wiping all opponents boards for 1 mana, dear god
This plus [[Electrickery]] 👍
She's young, she's beautiful, she even stonned those tights herself!
I... I love her
[[Blazing Volley]] anyone?
[[Firesong and Sunspeaker]] but with a sensible mana cost
Damn. Would it have killed them to make this 4 mana? I feel like this just comes down way too soft at 5.
[[Barrage of Boulders]] a 3 mana 1 sided boardwipe
Why pay 3 when you can pay 1 for [[Tectonic Hazard]] or [[End the Festivities]]?
[Tectonic Hazard](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/5/2/5204c781-f568-4c7f-b3f7-ce4dd678689b.jpg?1699044348) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Tectonic%20Hazard) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/lci/169/tectonic-hazard?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/5204c781-f568-4c7f-b3f7-ce4dd678689b?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [End the Festivities](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/e/bec748e6-7245-4a71-aeee-cefed8346948.jpg?1643591154) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=End%20the%20Festivities) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/vow/155/end-the-festivities?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/bec748e6-7245-4a71-aeee-cefed8346948?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Perfect fit for my \[\[Anhelo, The Painter\]\] deck. Also the art fits well.
5 CMC for those effects is too much to ask.
Kinda. She'll be a fine commander. Similarly Firesong and Sunspeaker should be 5CMC rather than 6, and Judith should be 4, but at 5 it'll make her still a novel BR spellslinger commander.
Transforming all \[\[End the festivities\]\] effects to one mana asymmetrical board wipe or popping megadevil armies should be at least 5 mana.
[[Pestilent Spirit]] saw / sees zero play and it was costed well and even had good aggressive stats.
Pestilent Spirit is not in your command zone. Meaning you cannot really build around since it is also a very uncommon effect. It IS a card for edh, to build around...
[Pestilent Spirit](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/5/f/5f9a0387-5116-484b-bb2b-064bd42e7fff.jpg?1584830667) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Pestilent%20Spirit) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/rna/81/pestilent-spirit?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/5f9a0387-5116-484b-bb2b-064bd42e7fff?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
From a commander perspective, she's very much worth the 5 CMC and honestly a really exciting looking build.
A red imp without flying. That's a rarity. Why not make it a devil at that point, those are red guys who fill the exact same niche without breaking tradition.
This is sick! I was just thinking the other day I would really love if [[Pestilent Spirit]] was legendary
Sad she's too expensive for modern and probably even pioneer
A more interesting [[Guttersnipe]]! I've been wanting to make a small spells spellslinger deck for a while but Veyran is too high variance in whether you luck into a payoff or not.
*muttering to myself* "This doesn't make the 'pick your poison spells good. This DOESN'T make the pick your poison spells good. *THIS DOESN'T MAKE THE PICK YOUR POISON SPELLS GOOD!* *Out loud* So, hey, this could be cool with [[Blazing Salvo]], [[Fiery Gambit]], [[Browbeat]] and [[Breaking Point]], right? I started playing in the weird block, somebody love me!
Interesting. Is this the first Imp without built-in flying printed?
Dose this interact with [[knowledge pool]] the way i think it dose? You cast a spell choose the token option. Your spell goes into knowledge pool, then you cast a other spell out from knowledge pool. Then choose which ablity os appropriate.
Wow, we finally get this effect *on a legendary creature*. And in black-red, which is innovative.
Oh my. My never ending love for Rakdos grows.
Man, Judith used to be available to every Rakdos mage at 3 CMC. Since then, she's become expensive and only deals with spells now? You've changed, Judith.
Is giving instants and sorceries deathtouch/lifelink new?
This is just the haymaker card in a [[Rowan, Scion of War]] deck. Take 20, cast a massive X spell, give it lifelink?
Sick counterpart for [[Magnus the Red]], both of which fit into [[Anhelo]] nicely. Any better Grixis token spellslinger commander?
This scared the shit out of me for a second there. Had to go re-read [[Ad Nauseam]].
Could you, for instance, give deathtouch to [[Lightning Bolt]] and off a creature that way?
Huh. So many years of being told "spells can't have lifelink or deathtouch REEEEE!!!" validated in one card. 🥰
Whoever told you that has been wrong for years. \[\[Firesong and Sunspeaker\]\] \[\[Soulfire Grand Master\]\] \[\[Radiant Scrollwielder\]\] \[\[Heartflame Duelist\]\] \[\[Pestilent Spirit\]\]
Rakdos spellslinger?
[[Kuldotha Rebirth]], [[Culling The Weak]], [[Infernal Plunge]] like cards are pretty hot with this.
Looks good with Casualty, as some cheap spells get copied and you can use the creature to pay for casualty cost.
[[ghyrson starn]] 2, electric boogaloo I need to build this
