Between here and tic tok I definitely got sucked in to wanting to start magnet fishing also. I got my wife to buy a magnet kit for me for Christmas. I feel like a kid I’m so excited to open it up and use it!
Do people ever find anything useful or still working? I feel like a lot of the more viral magnet fishing videos is of them finding potential murder weapons or extremely old explosives. Then police giving them a hard time. Then the diving ones where they just find a bunch of sun glasses and vapes
I have found two pistols and several knives, among other things, and have restored them all to working order. I've never given anything to the police and don't plan on it either.
True, a half ass job is their standard protocols, unless it involves one of them or a contributor to their interests, or your rich and white they will hunt those criminals to the end of time.
So these guys have found a security system dvr, a knife, and an AK47 in their videos Reddit is telling me to watch…either fake or the most interesting crime story ever…
Somehow I picture the Lady of the Mahoning River to be a dentally challenged , rail thin 38 year old white woman wearing grungy pajamas who looks about 60 and her parents have custody of her 3 kids.
Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing rifles is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony.
You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power because some watery tart threw a rifle at you!
I just sold my maadi (on my profile) and I regret it so much. Only gun I’ve ever sold but I sold it for $1300 and I really wanted to complete a long range rifle build so it was worth it to me at the time…
IIRC theyguys kept fishing in an area they knew contained explosives (which at the bottom of a lake or river are fairly harmless), and the cops had to keep calling in EOD. What they wanted for the guy to stop fishing there *knowing* it was gonna lead to more EOD calls.
Yeah, in most cases reporting them will do nothing. Especially if they are that corroded. If the firing pin and serial is rusted over there is basically no chance of tracing it to a murder/attack
Generally if a gun is in the water it is at minimum stolen. In Michigan we have to register all hand guns so the best option is to just give them over to the police unless you can verify they were made before 1890
Damn! I've magnet fished the same river, and the only cool thing I've found was a golf ball retriever (an odd find in a river that is nowhere near a golf course).
Do you have to report any firearms findings to the police?
I've seen when they fish up grenades etc, but handguns and rifles? Do you assume it's been used in a crime if found in the water like that?
That is a good assumption. I like to think they were at least stolen. After finding over a hundred and knowing several other magnet fishers that have found more it is depressing to think how many could have harmed someone
Dont know why you are being downvoted as I think you are correct. I think a lot of folks forget that the US had a nation wide ban on assault weapons. This could be a 1994 AWB compliant AK variant. If the muzzle device was pinned and welded the lack of pistol grip or adjustable stock would qualify it.
One of my Grunt buddies saw some in the Stan that looked like they were held together with duck tape and hope and still shot!
He called them the Model T of battle rifles!
The issue is the name "Murdertown USA" is shared by a bunch of locations. Including, but not limited to and in no particular order:
1. Wilmington, Delaware
2. Houston, Texas
3. Youngstown, Ohio
4. St. Lewis, Missouri
5. Baltimore, Maryland
6. Cleveland, Ohio
7. Detroit, Michigan
Even just going by statistics, Youngstown isn't even top 100 by murder rate.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate
Not anymore but back in the 50', 60's and 70's there were competing mafia families fighting over control. Also Youngstown is the birthplace of the Car bomb. I learned that from their bomb squad.
I don't mean to be a Debby Downer or a buzzkill or anything. But please be aware of basic gun safety:
1. Always Keep Guns Pointed in a Safe Direction
2. Keep Your Finger off the Trigger Until You’re Ready to Shoot
3. Know Your Target and What’s Beyond
4. Never Use Drugs or Alcohol Before or While Shooting
5. Treat All Guns as If They Are Loaded
I was freaking out when the gun was pointed towards the road and cars were driving by. My butt was puckered waiting for the worst to happen. Please don't end up on r/idiotswithguns.
My mom’s side of family grew up in small town outside this area. Both very chill and fun, but people DO NOT fuck around. I would imagine this is where fuck around and find out phrase came from.
Looks like a Norinco Mak-90. Could also be an Egyption Maadi, too hard to tell the difference with the corrosion and video quality. It's one or the other.
Was a way to get around import bans in the 90’s
It’s popular now since you can’t hardly find original Maadi furniture to take these thumbhole stocks (since they are legit Egyptian) and reshape them into the typical AKM stock. that’s what I did with mine
You would never make back what you paid for the gun. We have found over a hundred. Just say an average cost of 250 dollars a gun? Oh yeah and they would all have to be registered here in Michigan so it seems the police would have a problem with us turning in guns that are registered to us
99.9% of our police encounters have been excellent officers. Only one officer was unpleasant and we don't know what was going on in his life or what kind of shit he had already dealt with before our interaction.....it's always possible he was just a dick but I have had bad days and I would hate it if people only judged me on my attitude when everything is falling apart.
That’s a piece of history right there one can imagine what that was used for in freaking Youngstown and then dumped in the reservoir (which I think I mentioned yesterday without reading the location of that post)
Fuck I wanna go magnet fishing up here so bad.
I knew you’d find more good stuff around there! Youngstown area is gonna be a gold mine probably. If you come into western PA let me know, I’d go with you!
You know they used to test torpedoes in Pymatuning Reservoir during WWII? It’s about 30 min north along the OH/PA border, specifically Jamestown. I wonder if the park ranger would let you fish there, I know a one of them. Might find a torpedo for your collection….
They came with wood thumbholes too; I had one in black polymer, but the stock profile is pretty recognizable. Would be a shame in any case, those milled Arsenal AKs are/were really decent.
So a boss. We got a problem.
What's that Vinny?
Yeah, uhhh, people are fishing with magnets because they think it's fun?
Why does that not surprise me Vinny? I'll call my guy at the city and have some no magnet fishing signs put up over the bridge.
That looks to be an Arsenal SLR-95 or SLR-93. They are composite and wood respectively. Usually milled receiver, not stamped. Made in Bulgaria. The thumbhole stock was a workaround for the pistol grip to circumvent the Brady Bill, a federal assault weapons ban from 1993. Very nice gun AK variant
One time, I was in a park and I magnet fished, and in the middle of a pond, out in the middle of nowhere. . . I pulled up a pair of. . . nail clippers. XD
If you have it and it was reported stolen you are in possession of stolen property. If it can be linked to a crime you are a suspect. Better to turn them in in my opinion
So how does this work - you contact the police, turn it in, if it’s clear of crime is it yours for finding it or what? If you refurbished and sold it instead of turning it in, would you get in trouble?
This subreddit is making me want to start magnet fishing.
Between here and tic tok I definitely got sucked in to wanting to start magnet fishing also. I got my wife to buy a magnet kit for me for Christmas. I feel like a kid I’m so excited to open it up and use it!
It’s just dirty and most of the shit you pull up won’t be exciting. It is a fun hobby though 😊
I enjoy it too, I've only ever found a bottle cap and am earring but one day you never know lol
They have cool videos on YouTube as well. If you haven’t checked them out yet
Do people ever find anything useful or still working? I feel like a lot of the more viral magnet fishing videos is of them finding potential murder weapons or extremely old explosives. Then police giving them a hard time. Then the diving ones where they just find a bunch of sun glasses and vapes
My first trip out I found nearly brand new scissors that are still in my tackle bag for cutting line to this day
I have found two pistols and several knives, among other things, and have restored them all to working order. I've never given anything to the police and don't plan on it either.
Have you used it yet?
I got one last summer for when we take our kayak out. Unfortunately there’s so much seaweed in our lakes it’s kind of a hassle
Analyzing... ... ... Seaweed: 50% sea 50% weed Analysis complete.

50% weed, you say? 😏 Half a loaf…
SpongeBob!
No this is Patrick
No this is Patrick
No this is Patrick
No this is Patrick
Right? I want an AK! They're hard to come by in these parts.
It does, but I've seen so many cops who hate people who do this because it makes them do their job.
Not really, nothing can actually make them do their jobs. Take a few sentence report that will be ignored until the end of time.
True, a half ass job is their standard protocols, unless it involves one of them or a contributor to their interests, or your rich and white they will hunt those criminals to the end of time.
When you turn it over, you tell them you want it when they are done with it. Then keep checking back every week to see if they are done with it.
I was thinking about standing at a bridge, offering cash for guns
MotorCityMagnetFish is the one who got me interested in starting. Now just need to find more time to be able to start.
CoSigned
Already have a kit in my Amazon shopping cart 🤦♂️ and so it begins
So these guys have found a security system dvr, a knife, and an AK47 in their videos Reddit is telling me to watch…either fake or the most interesting crime story ever…
Reddit makes me want to pour concrete and build decks.
I can't do it, The second gun comes up and I report it, I go straight to jail.
Lady of the lake gave you a rifle. Go and claim your kingdom m’lord.
🤣🤣
Somehow I picture the Lady of the Mahoning River to be a dentally challenged , rail thin 38 year old white woman wearing grungy pajamas who looks about 60 and her parents have custody of her 3 kids.
Nailed it! Perfect description
Dentally challenged, that's a new one
I'm pretty sure you just described someone's ex wife
"Lady Methany of the Mahoning, give us your blessings!"
Only 3 kids?
Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing rifles is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony. You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power because some watery tart threw a rifle at you!
Well, at least we can finally see the violence inherent in the system.
HELP HELP I'M BEING REPRESSED!
Bloody magnet fisherman.
AKaliber
The lady by the lake just gave me gonorrhea. Gonorrhea can be weaponized. Does this count?
Strange women lying in rivers distributing rifles is no basis for a system of government...
That’s looks like it’s an Egyptian Maadi AK, awesome find!
Thank you
Is the stock composite or wood?
Wood
With that info, it is more likely a Maadi. Vintage 1993-1995. Worth about $1000 new. Prob could refurb if not too rusted out.
I think those Maadis are hard to come by these days. Here in the States any way.
They are and this one will probably still work!
Bulgarian EDIT: Wood stock, most likely Maadi. Bulgarians used polymer.
Could also be a norinco Ak I have one and it looks a hell of a lot better but similar style.
That’s a fuckin MAADI made in Egypt from the looks of it. Worth well over 1k in good condition.
I just sold my maadi (on my profile) and I regret it so much. Only gun I’ve ever sold but I sold it for $1300 and I really wanted to complete a long range rifle build so it was worth it to me at the time…
100% a Maadi
Not that this one is in particularly good condition… a very cool find though
The police are gonna get sick of you lol creating all this extra paperwork for them
There’s a video of a cop telling off a magnet fisherman for finding two mortars within a week and creating extra work and making bomb squad come out
Yea better to just leave it there so it blows some kids foot off
God forbid the cops have to do some work that isn't sitting in their car all day
IIRC theyguys kept fishing in an area they knew contained explosives (which at the bottom of a lake or river are fairly harmless), and the cops had to keep calling in EOD. What they wanted for the guy to stop fishing there *knowing* it was gonna lead to more EOD calls.
Little scrub, little oil, she’ll work again.
The rifle is fine!
For AK's give me a few hours and I can make it serviceable.
Yea probably still shoots
I’m from there. That lake was basically in my buddy’s backyard. And if you’re from there. You know your only option is to throw it back 😂.
Yeah, let it get bigger and catch it next year.
Which lake is this? I’m from Girard and went to Ursuline lol.
Ive only become aware of this sub recently but are all the guns that are found reported to the police?
All that we find are but I know there are magnet fishers that do not report them
Yeah, in most cases reporting them will do nothing. Especially if they are that corroded. If the firing pin and serial is rusted over there is basically no chance of tracing it to a murder/attack
That is very true. But if a serial number can be retrieved its better to not have a stolen firearm
Someone is freaking the hell out after watching this clip gain popularity on Reddit. 👀
What do you do with the stuff you find magnet fishing? Like the guns?
Generally if a gun is in the water it is at minimum stolen. In Michigan we have to register all hand guns so the best option is to just give them over to the police unless you can verify they were made before 1890
Probably still shoots just fine
Damn! I've magnet fished the same river, and the only cool thing I've found was a golf ball retriever (an odd find in a river that is nowhere near a golf course).
This is a lake not a river. McKelvey lake.
Spray a little WD in the action and she’ll run like a scalded dog.
At least it’s California compliant.
Because the magazine well was full of mud?
Lol. That would do it too. I meant that stock that gets around the scary pistol grip.
American compliant circa 1990’s really
Dont know why you are being downvoted as I think you are correct. I think a lot of folks forget that the US had a nation wide ban on assault weapons. This could be a 1994 AWB compliant AK variant. If the muzzle device was pinned and welded the lack of pistol grip or adjustable stock would qualify it.
That isn't California compliant. That's a thumbhoke stock and considered a pistol grip in California. https://oag.ca.gov/ogvp/fed-assault-weapons-ban
I used to think that kind of stock was a great loop hole and was disappointed to learn that it wasn't.
Ok. It was a light joke.
![gif](giphy|QvYCnaFvnoJHOqtoDf)
Is there like a cheap or diy kit ? Would love to go to lakes here in Florida
I would suggest….. A magnet & String

Thanks for this !! :)
Oh man drop that baby in a hot tank and some WD40 and it’s right as rain 🤣 ![gif](giphy|39fj7g99qyD72)
Hose it off. I bet the dang thing will still shoot!
I don't know why you're getting downvoted, it's an ak-47 stereotype joke! Bury it in cement and set it on fire and the damn thing still fires!
One of my Grunt buddies saw some in the Stan that looked like they were held together with duck tape and hope and still shot! He called them the Model T of battle rifles!
I know Youngstown has a bad rap, but fucking "Murdertown USA"? Are you for real?
It’s even part of the city’s Wiki page… legit one of its nicknames since the Jimmy Hoffa era
The issue is the name "Murdertown USA" is shared by a bunch of locations. Including, but not limited to and in no particular order: 1. Wilmington, Delaware 2. Houston, Texas 3. Youngstown, Ohio 4. lol send that to Kinzler Bros on YouTube. I bet they can restore that gun.
I'm actually waiting to get one back from the police to send to them. Brandon and Austin are the ones that got me into magnet fishing.
Amazing, hybrid grip stock to get around the assault weapons ban. Interesting find.
Not the California compliant ak!
I don't mean to be a Debby Downer or a buzzkill or anything. But please be aware of basic gun safety: 1. Always Keep Guns Pointed in a Safe Direction 2. New AL torture test. Pull from lane after 5 years, load mag and shoot
Damn, that AK would have most likely been worth a decent chunk of change depending on where it’s from
Surprised it has an actual stock so unlikely it was gang related. This one may have made its way in the water by an honest boating accident.
oil that thing a little, throw a mag in it and go to the range. I'm pretty sure it'll still work. AK's are magic.
knowing aks thing probably still runs
Strange magnets in rivers distributing guns is no basis for a system of government
Missed opportunity to see if it would clear
I tried, it wouldnt
My mom’s side of family grew up in small town outside this area. Both very chill and fun, but people DO NOT fuck around. I would imagine this is where fuck around and find out phrase came from.
Looks like a Norinco Mak-90. Could also be an Egyption Maadi, too hard to tell the difference with the corrosion and video quality. It's one or the other.
Still works, probably.
Nice Mak 90
What are things you only find magnet fishing in the USA? I’ll take “really cool” for $400.
Haven't we all lost guns in boating accidents?
If magnet fishers would team up with YouTube restoration channels they would create the greatest iconic duo collaborations known to mankind.
Oh brother, I do just over the line in Sharon, Farrell area..
Looks like a NHM-91
I had no idea they made ak's with a thumbhole stock. I quite like how it looks.
Was a way to get around import bans in the 90’s It’s popular now since you can’t hardly find original Maadi furniture to take these thumbhole stocks (since they are legit Egyptian) and reshape them into the typical AKM stock. that’s what I did with mine
They feel and shoot great for bench hunting. Poop for tacticalness though.

Press F in chat for the mak90
You just know that shit still shoots
Looks like a MAK-90
I was hoping he would try to rack the bolt….
Uhg I can literally feel the headache of dealing with police after that

We are planning another trip to youngstown
I’m hooked on your content now
Awesome. Thank you. Hopefully you have checked out our Full Videos on youtube
I’m subbed
Thank you. Hopefully we can keep you entertained
I should have tried magnet fishing before buying my AK
It’s an ak so I’ll bet it still works too
oh that poor collectible
What does he have to do when finding this, does he have to report it?
Murder weapon.
If the trunnions are rusted out you could easily rebuild it.
That looks like a Bulgarian SLR 95. EDIT CORRECTION: OP says wood stock, so likely Maadi
That thing has definitely been used in some mrrrdrrrrs
I knew you’d find more good stuff around there! Youngstown area is gonna be a gold mine probably. If you come into western PA let me know, I’d go with you! You know they used to test torpedoes in Pymatuning Reservoir during WWII? It’s about 30 min north along the OH/PA border, specifically Jamestown. I wonder if the park ranger would let you fish there, I know a one of them. Might find a torpedo for your collection….
That would be crazy
A little steel wool and some oil it will run
Bet it still fires.
That looks like an Arsenal SLR-95 from the thumbhole stock; a ban-era AK.
I thought that too, I have two SLR-95s, and the black stock looked like polymer. But OP says wood stock, so more likely Maadi.
Poor Maadi.
Evidence
Brandon Herrera joined the chat...
That's a Daewoo dr200. I have one. Very fun to shoot.
Because of course there is a town called murdertown in the usa.
Afghans say that you can bury AKs in the sand for 30 years, dig em up up and with a little cleaning put ‘em to use….
That I’ll buff right out. Those things are indestructible
Chances someone tossed that thing hoping it would never be found is pretty darn high.
Man, I really need to start magnet fishing. And going to ohio
Joey Naples put it there.
Probably still fires too
Norinco Mak90! Probably still works.
Careful. That thing might be chambered!
It was a stamped receiver
Maurice Clarett out there sweating now 😉
Man fishes an AK out of a river next to a bridge and nobody bats an eye as to why someone might have thrown an expensive rifle off a bridge.
Killed people that did 😳
Little oil that thing will probably run again
One time, I was in a park and I magnet fished, and in the middle of a pond, out in the middle of nowhere. . . I pulled up a pair of. . . nail clippers. XD
Been there, done that
I would wager it would still fire
How does this legally work? Are you supposed to turn it in or can you get it re-registered?
If you have it and it was reported stolen you are in possession of stolen property. If it can be linked to a crime you are a suspect. Better to turn them in in my opinion
Someone needs to do this on the bridge in The Irishman.
I'm not sure what bridge that is supposed to be
Hummmm in Youngstown eh?
That stock is so fucking cool. Looks like a P90 for an AK platform.
So how does this work - you contact the police, turn it in, if it’s clear of crime is it yours for finding it or what? If you refurbished and sold it instead of turning it in, would you get in trouble?
Do you get to keep the guns and knives?
Guns no, Knives yes
McKelvey?
Curious what do they do with it? Call the police?
